No one today can really get a full idea of what it was like to live surrounded by dinosaurs. While today we know that some animals like killer whales, alligators, lions and other big predators can be threatening to us humans, none of these can compare to the danger that dinosaurs and other prehistoric animals represented. Today we’ll have a look at ten animals that were scarier than dinosaurs. You’ll realize that dinosaurs were harmless and perhaps even friendly compared to the beasts I’ll show you today. I’ll also talk about some of the movies that fed us ideas of what these animals were like, and I’ll compare those ideas to actual facts that will make you understand how real life creatures were in fact a bit scarier than what we see on the screen. Stay tuned all the way to number one and find out about an animal that you’ll be thankful to know it’s gone extinct.

    10. Arthropleura

I’m going to start with an animal that was not as big as a dinosaur. In fact, it wasn’t even a carnivore! But I’m sure you’d be quite scared and probably a bit grossed out if you were to encounter it today. And I’m pretty sure you’d rather see a dinosaur instead of this animal. The Arthropleura was a millipede that could reach lengths of up to 2.5 meters, which means, if it were to stand on the lower end of its thousand feet, it would be higher than a christmas tree! The Arthropleura is known to be the largest invertebrate of all time. With such aspect, I doubt any predators wanted to mess with it.

    9. Dunkleosteus

Yikes! Even the name sounds scary already. If you’re wondering what this animal looked like, let me start by pointing out that the Dunkleosteus was a fish! Of course, we’re not talking about a cute tropical fish or even a shark like the one from Jaws. This prehistoric fish was 33 feet long! Which means it was almost twice as long as the height of a giraffe from its head to its feet. However, what makes this animal threatening is not only its size, but also its sharp teeth. The bones in its jaw kept growing continuously, up until a point where their edges would become so sharp as they rubbed together against each other. These were useful tools to pierce and chew on their prey . This fish was as heavy as a hippopotamus and could easily snatch its prey in less than a second.

    8. Jaekelopterus

The Jaekelopterus was an aquatic arthropod. The best way to explain it is by pointing out that some people call it a “Giant Sea Scorpion” - can you picture that? If scorpions are scary already, I don’t want to imagine what it would be like to come face to face with a giant one in the middle of the ocean! It’s an experience that would definitely keep me away from the waters for good. The name Jaekelopterus comes from Otto Jaekel, a German paleontologist who was the first one to describe the species. Although its maximum size has not been confirmed, some experts believed the largest Jaekelopterus could have reached a length of 2.5 meters, making it taller than humans if it were to stand. This animal is believed to have lived in freshwater, making it a threat to other arthropods and smaller fish. Poor animals didn’t stand a chance against this huge creature!

    7. Helicoprion

And here is another fish on our list! Or...maybe not. One of the craziest facts about the helicoprion is that no one has been able to properly classify it and associate it to the animal groups we have today. We can say it’s a fish because it lived in the water, but paleontologists didn’t have enough information to categorize it. Its teeth worked like a circular blade. Without any proper teeth in the upper jaw, this creature could gum you and bite you at the same time..quite scary and gross! The lower teeth were sharp, so it’s safe to assume that the helicoprion was a carnivore! What scientists can’t figure out yet is whether it fed on small or big animals - they can only speculate as they still haven’t found any remains of a skull to properly figure out what its diet was. One thing is for sure, that odd looking jaw is more than enough to scare us all if we were to encounter it in the ocean today.

Today we going to show you the 10 animals that were scarier then dinosaurs.

Titanboa is one of them. If you don’t like snakes that weigh the same as a grown giraffe, you might want to look away. The titanboa is simply the largest snake that has ever existed. It can grow up to 40 feet long and weigh up to 2500 pounds. The titanboa only appeared long after the dinosaurs went extinct.

10 Scariest Prehistoric Animals of All Time

For most of us, dinosaurs are the only known huge animals. We’re thankful that they know longer exist because who wants such a big reptile strutting around your neighborhood? We already have enough scare from smaller animals like the spider and snakes.
Moving on, dinosaurs aren’t the only giants of the earth that went out of existence. And they aren’t the largest. In this video, we’ll show you some of the biggest and scariest beasts that roamed the planet many years ago. If a regular snake is a scare, then picture one that’s so huge it had dinosaurs for breakfast! Yep, you're going to love the fact that you’ll never have to encounter a serpent that size, at least not in real life.
    #10 Megadolon
Can you think of any animals today large enough to prey on whales? There is none. Even the great whites would rather scavenge on whales than attack these giant sea mammals.
But the situation was a bit different 16 million to 2 million years ago when the mighty Megadolon ruled the seas. At a length of 50 feet and weighing up to 60 tons, this shark was way bigger than the already nightmarish great white sharks – actually, up to three times bigger.
At that size, it was in a better position to take on large prey like the whale, and it sure did. Whale fossils around the world have been found to have bite marks of this gigantic shark. It likely went in for the whales' fins, biting them off to render its targets immobile before proceeding to enjoy the extra-large snacks. Sure, it was huge but how hard could it bite? Strong enough to crash a car.
Unlike most monstrous creatures on this list, information about the Megadolon is based on studying the teeth. Like any shark out there, the skeleton was purely cartilage which means pretty much of it had already decomposed by the time humans got interested.
    #9 Spinosaurus
Well, we had promised to show you scary prehistoric animals other than dinosaurs but here we are with the Spinosaurus. Considering that this giant reptile is considered the largest carnivorous dinosaurs it just had to be on this list.
Its remains were found in Egypt in 1915. At first, there was a bit of disagreement as to whether it should dethrone T-Rex as the largest carnivorous dinosaur. Indeed, the scanty fossils that are alleged to have been destroyed during WWII didn’t offer the true picture of how big or small this dinosaur was compared to T-Rex. But more and more fossils were discovered bringing an end to the impasse.
Spinosaurus grew to lengths of between 40 and 60 feet and weigh up to 20 tons. It had a long snout that matched that of the crocodile which implies it could have spent a good amount of its time in water. And that means it most likely made a meal out of a considerable number of fish.
But its size was quite advantageous in feeding that it was thought to prey on giant turtles, crocodiles and even other dinosaurs.

    10. Ophiacodon
The Ophiacodon is an extinct genus of synapsids that lived from roughly 306 to 280 million years ago, during the Late Carboniferous and Early Permian periods, in what is now the U.S., Nova Scotia, and England. It’s closely related to the evolutionary line of creatures that the earliest mammals emerged from. It’s name means “snake tooth”.

    9. Gorgonopsid
Before the dinosaurs came along, the Gorgonopsid was the world’s top predator. These guys were a sub-order of therapsids, and used to be called “mammal-like reptiles”. So imagine that, plus huge saber-like teeth. Definitely a carnivore!

    8. Haikouichthys
So if we are going to talk about creatures that existed before the dinosaurs, just a heads up, they were pretty weird. Haikouichthys is an extinct genus of early fish-like craniate. These kinds of animals had notochords which are flexible rods made out of a material similar to cartilage, and a distinctly shaped head.

    7. Cynognathus
The Cynognathus was also from the order known as therapsids, meaning it was a distant relative of early mammals. It was the size of a modern-day wolf with a big head that was about 1 foot in length (40cm). This big head helped accommodate its long jaws lined with sharp teeth which it used for preying on and devouring small herbivores while hunting in packs.

    6. Arthropleura
Just like something out of a sci-fi movie, the giant millipede Arthropleura is the largest known land bug of all time! Its name is Greek for “jointed ribs” because of the creature’s 30 jointed segments. This genus of extinct millipedes lived in Pangea between 315 and 299 million years ago, during the Carboniferous Period in what is now North America and Europe.

    5. Dimetrodon
At first glance, the sail-backed Dimetrodon certainly resembles a dinosaur, but in reality, it wasn’t even a reptile; it was an extinct genus of synapsids that lived during the Early Permian Period, from 295 million to 272 million years ago. While the Dimetrodon is commonly mistaken for a dinosaur, it died out roughly 40 million years before the dinosaurs even appeared, and it was more closely related to mammals than reptiles. Weird, huh?

    4. Dunkleosteus
From 358 million to 382 million years ago, the Dunkleosteus ruled the world’s oceans as possibly the world’s first apex predator. 100 million years before the dinosaurs, this genus of armored, jawed fish swam the Earth’s waterways during the Late Devonian Period.

    3. Estemmenosuchus
Estemmenosuchus is Greek for “crowned crocodile” and is an extinct genus of large, herbivorous or omnivorous early therapsids that roamed the Earth during the Middle Permian period, around 267 million years ago. There were two known species, both of which came from where the modern-day city of Perm, Russia is located.

    2. Cotylorhynchus
The extinct Cotylorhynchus was a large synapsid that lived during the Early Permian period in what is now Oklahoma and Texas, in the southern United States. It was possibly aquatic, but is also known as perhaps one of the largest terrestrial vertebrates of its time.

    1. Erythrosuchus
Erythrosuchus emerged shortly after the Permian extinction event that occurred roughly 252 million years ago. This prehistoric hypercarnivore’s name means “red crocodile.” It grew up to 16 feet (4.9 meters) long and was an apex predator. It was actually the largest predator in South Africa during the Middle Triassic period. It’s fossilized remains have been discovered in Russia and South Africa.

    twenty-five terrifying animals you're
    glad are extinct
hey there YouTube don't try to prove me
wrong and say like you want these things
to be alive because let's be honest here
if these things were still alive today
we'd probably all be eaten extinction
has been a fact of life since long
before the dinosaurs took their first
steps across the planet a species can
die out for a variety of reasons from
human encroachment to changes in climate
it sings yes but it is a necessary part
of evolution there are plenty of
    creatures that would have ensured
humanity would not have survived if they
were still around from giant scorpions
to a snake the size of a bus here are 25
    terrifying animals your gladder extinct
again don't lie and say you want them
    let's begin shall we
number 25 pleura Souris the largest
living croc on record measured 23 feet
for reference that's twice as long as
some cars so when we tell you that it
was tiny in comparison to the
    prehistoric purussaurus
you can appreciate what that means this
animal grew to 42 feet long
it also snagged on other Crocs dinosaurs
and possibly the very first human
ancestors and it's a little too late
    Placid for me
    number 24 Beaumont Scorpius scorpions
they're creepy they're crawling and they
can be fatally dangerous to humans
    depending on the species
    Beaumont Scorpius was a terrifyingly
    giant scorpion from the oxygen-rich
Visayan period at 3 feet long this bad
boy anything it wanted including smaller
scorpions and could have posted quite a
powerful sing we can definitely be glad
this bug got squashed long ago and can
only be seen in fallout nowadays number
23 Megalodon come on you know you had to
put this bad boy on here jaws ain't got
nothing on this oceanic giant Megalodon
was the largest predator to have ever
lived and measured 60 feet or more with
a maximum estimated weight of 60 tonnes
it used seven inch teeth to snack on
whales and even other sharks it's
believed by some people that this
ancient animal is still alive somewhere
at the bottom of the ocean I hope not I
mean I don't want to go into the ocean
and get snagged on that wouldn't be good
number twenty-two Dunkleosteus at 20 to
30 feet long and weighing up to four
tonnes uncle' osseous was nothing like
your childhood goldfish I mean unless
your goldfish was that long and had
    hyper carnivorous jaws
and that's scary this carnivorous fish
docked our planet oceans millions of
years before the first dinosaurs eating
whatever it could fit inside its massive
jaws instead of teeth however this
monster ate a scissor sharp set a plate
with a bite force of around 8,000 pounds
per square inch that's the same as a
Tyrannosaurus Rex just a heads up number
    21 rats
Zillah 3 million years ago everything
was Big Bird's her big bugs are big even
sloths were big but did you know that
the rats were big - with a nearly 2 foot
long skull and a body the size of a
bison this rodent was huge at a bite
force of of 950 pounds by the way that's
scary its teeth could also take three
times that stress suggesting that this
animal used those chompers for more than
just chewing like dying off your leg for
example yeah that's ink in number 20 Meg
Alania imagine you find yourself face to
face with a 200-pound 8 foot long Komodo
dragon its jaws open and dripping its
deadly poison ready to bite you now uh
imagine at 20 feet long and over a
thousand pounds and it becomes easy to
see what humanity can be glad that meg
Elena has since gone extinct even its
name means ancient giant butcher and
    this ancient Australian animal was
    certainly that number nineteen terror
bird ornithol via or the irrational fear
of birds is a very real phobia however I
think we can all agree that North
America's Tara birds were a truly
frightening add up to ten feet tall in
over half a ton this flightless bird was
a force to be reckoned with
with its razor-sharp beak and lake
strong enough to shed her bone we might
not exist if this horse eating ostrich
    was still around number eighteen
    titanoboa
thank the heavens there were about 58
million years separating us and the
largest known snake to have ever
slithered its way across the planet no
we're not talking about the basilisk
from Harry Potter or anything like that
this is what's native to South America
titanoboa grew up to over 40 feet long
and weighed in at just over a ton like
    its modern-day relatives that
through constriction and was so big it
ain't crocodiles and could have easily
swallowed a man without batting an eye

  • 10 Extinct Animals We Shouldnt Bring Back

    10:26

Scientists these days are serious about bringing animals extinct millions of years ago back to life. They even have a list of candidates, which includes the woolly mammoth, dodo, mastodon, and Tasmanian tiger. However, the animals you’re about to see are not desirable and will not be loved by humans. Those scary monsters from the past won’t do anyone any good.

    Music: Lookahead

    SUMMARY
-Meganeura, which was actually a griffinfly, was a bit smaller than a crow and had a wingspan of about 2.3 ft. A Meganeura’s diet consisted of insects, invertebrates, and small amphibians.
-Phoberomys pattersoni (also known as “guinea-zilla”) weighed 1,500 lb and was 4.9 ft tall. It’d be impossible not to scream if you saw a buffalo-like rodent charging at you.
-A prehistoric cannibal. Dunkleosteus was not a part of the shark family but was an arthropod or placoderm fish. Its bite was as powerful as that of the Tyrannosaurus rex and modern crocodiles.
-Helicoprion was 35 ft long with shark-like features and was twice the size of the largest known great white shark. Its tooth whorl, which consisted of 15 to 18 serrated teeth, worked like a circular saw when eating its prey.
-Deinosuchus was related to the alligator and could grow up to 39 ft long. They preyed on sea turtles and dinosaurs.
-Gigantopithecus, which translates to “big ape,” was a relative of orangutans. Its teeth, which were falsely branded as “dragon teeth,” were made to grind and chew plants, bamboo in particular.
-Megapiranhas were 2.3 ft long and weighed 20–30 lb. The megapiranha had a bite force of 279–1,069 lb.
-Around 500,000 to 2 million years ago, the giant short-faced bear was the most powerful carnivore around. Its scientific name was “Arctodus simus,” and it weighed between 2,000 and 3,500 lb.
-Titanoboa cerrejonensis’ length was about 40–45 ft, and its average weight was 1.25 tons. Titanoboa looked like a boa constrictor but behaved like an anaconda.
-Megalodon was the largest shark to ever live on Earth. Its teeth were 5” to 7” in height and had a bite force of 24,400–41,000 lb.

Dinosaurs have been dead for millions of years, or are they? Thousands of people around the world
continually report dinosaur sightings, but are any of them real? Today we will be looking at 10 dinosaurs
caught on camera. Number 1 is pretty convincing so watch out for it.

Number 10. A Pterosaur in China

Pterosaurs are winged, flying dinosaurs that ruled the skies for 60 million years, before finally going
extinct along with the rest of the dinosaurs. So is it possible that a pterosaur or even a colony of
pterosaurs survived extinction and now inhabits the untouched regions of China? If this clip is to be
believed, then the answer is a definite yes.
This video was first uploaded to Amazing Mystery Videos’ YouTube channel in 2014. This short clip to
show a pterosaur flying through the sky, and was supposedly filmed in 1973 by a military group near the
city of Yantai, China. The video is short and the quality very grainy, but it does show the unmistakable
outline of some huge, winged creature, and a distinct crest on its head, making people think that this is
    an actual pterosaur.
Some people have even speculated that the winged creature was a tapejara, a species of pterosaur that
only lived in Brazil. So, do pterosaurs still regularly take flight in the skies above China? What do you
    think?

Number 9. A Mammoth in Siberia

Although not a dinosaur, wooly mammoths are also prehistoric creatures that fascinate us to this day. In
fact, certain scientists are desperately trying to bring this extinct creature back into existence. But what
if they don’t have to? What if all they needed to do was to take a trip to Siberia to find and perhaps even
    capture one?
First appearing in 2012, this grainy footage first surfaced and claims to be showing evidence that the
wooly mammoth still exists out in the frozen wilderness of Siberia. The huge animal, having the
silhouette of a hairy elephant, is seen crossing a frozen river.
While woolly mammoths mostly disappeared around 10,000 years ago, several isolated populations
managed to survive until as recently as 4,000 years ago. They coexisted with early humans who hunted
them for food as well as used their bones and tusks for tools and art.
Is it possible that some of these late survivors somehow managed to avoid human detection and thrive
out in that frozen wilderness? Non-believer argue that the video is so grainy that it can’t be considered
solid proof, and argued that it could might as well just be a bear clutching a fish in its jaws.
So, is it a mammoth or just a hungry bear? You decide.

Number 8. The Ancient River Monster

Lake and river monsters have always been thought to be surviving remnants of our prehistoric past.
From Nessie to Ogopogo, these monsters are always thought to be a species of plesiosaur that
    somehow survived extinction.
The video you are seeing was uploaded to Seamonstervideos’ YouTube channel in 2008. It shows what
many believe may be some type of prehistoric marine lizard that has a three-pronged tail.
While some say that the creature in the video is just a seal, the video makes it very clear that it is way
larger than any seal. Others also say that the creature could be a manatee, whose tail was injured in a
collision with a boat propeller, but closer examination of the video seem to show that the tail indeed has
    three prongs.
Verifying whether this video is genuine or not is proving to be very difficult though, as there are no
details on who shot it and where it was shot. One thing is for certain; the creature in the video is big, as
    big as a dinosaur.
Could it be a prehistoric plesiosaur undiscovered for millions of years? Let us know what you think.

Number 7. A Raptor in the Woods

Thanks to Jurassic Park, raptors have taken front and center of our thoughts when dinosaurs are in the
conversation. And if this video turns out to be real, then the movies is not the only place you will be able
    to see these vicious creatures.
Originally uploaded to Real Paranormal Videos in 2016, this video claims to show a raptor running near

10 Scary Things You Never Knew about Dinosaurs
We think we know everything about dinosaurs, then these facts pop up. Today we will be talking about
10 scary things you never knew about dinosaurs. Are you one of the people that think that the T-Rex
doesn’t deserve its title as king of dinosaurs? Wait till number one, it will probably change your mind.

Number 10. The Biggest of Them All
Dinosaurs had a rather large range in terms of size. The smallest known dinosaur, the Compsognathus,
only grew to about the size of a chicken. On the other side of the scale was the Argentinosaurus.
Amazingly, these two ends of the spectrum lived in the same time period as each other, which was
about 94 to 97 million years ago.
The Argentinosaurus not only holds the record for the biggest dinosaur, but it is also the heaviest and
longest land creature to ever live. Despite being so massive, the Argentinosaurus started off small. Their
eggs were about the size of coconuts and when they were born, they weighed a little more than 10
pounds. It took about 40 years to grow to their full size, which was about 26 feet tall, and they were 121
feet long, which is as long as three school buses. They also weighed 100 tons, which is about as much as
12 African elephants. In order to sustain their size, they would have needed 100,000 calories a day,
which is about 200 Big Macs.
Perhaps the most impressive feat this animal could do was rise up and stand on its back feet. If some
unlucky dinosaur, even huge carnivores, were to get underfoot, they’d be flattened like pancakes.

Number 9. A Vegetarian with a Bad Attitude
The Triceratops horridus, which means “three-horned face,” was a herbivore, but it still wasn’t an
animal you’d want to come across. They were 10 feet tall, 30 feet long, and they weighed four to six
tons. If it’s hard to visualize. Just think of a rhino as big as a mid-sized elephant, but 100 percent meaner.
Of course, the Triceratops’ most notable feature is its three horns. There were two above their eyes, and
one above their mouth. When a Triceratops reached adulthood, the horns were three feet long and
curved upwards. It was used to fight with other Triceratops over mates and territory. However, they
were also used to fight off the apex predator that lived at the same time as them – the T-Rex. Evidence
they would have been able to fend off a T-Rex was that a Triceratops fossil had a healed wound from a
T-Rex’s bite, suggesting the Triceratops was able to fight off the dominant predator and lived long
enough after the encounter for the bite to heal. If you were bad enough to thwart an attack from the
meanest predator around, you’re someone I wouldn’t want to mess around with.

Number 8. The Fast and the Hungry
The fastest known dinosaurs are believed to be part of a group of Theropod dinosaurs called
Ornithomimids. One of the most famous subspecies is the Gallimimus bullatus, which are the ostrich-like

dinosaurs in the first Jurassic Park movie. It’s believed that they could run 50 miles per hour. However,
given that they are toothless, they probably don’t eat meat, so this entry is not about them.

On the other hand, a dinosaur that was deffinitely fast and terrifying was the Carnotaurus sastrei, which
means “meat-eating bull.” It got its name because of the bull-like horns on its head, which it would have
used to bully other Carnotauruses trying to enter its territory. Also, unlike the Gallimimus, the
Carnotaurus was a pretty big animal. They were 13 feet tall, nearly 30 feet long, and weighed up to two
tons. Despite their huge size, they were surprisingly fast thanks to their massive thighs, which were up
to 15 percent of their body weight. According to calculations, they would have been able to reach
speeds of 40 miles per hour. It would be like trying to outrun a car that is driving over the speed limit on
a city street, but instead of being run over, you stand the chance of being bitten in half.

Number 7. Jurassic Park Lied to You
According to the Jurassic Park movies, Velociraptors were six-foot tall dinosaurs that hunted in packs. As
menacing as they were on screen, they were nothing close to that in real life. While it’s highly probable
they hunted in packs, they weren’t nearly as big as they were in the movies.

  • 10 Most DANGEROUS Ocean Creatures In The World!

10 Most DANGEROUS Ocean Creatures In The World!

    If you're new, Subscribe! →

The ocean is the world’s largest habitat; therefore, it contains the most number of animal species in the
world; some of which can be very dangerous. Today we will be looking at 10 of the most dangerous
ocean creatures in the world. Make sure you stay tuned till number one. You will come face to face with
the creature solely responsible for the drastic drop in number of people going to beaches in the mid
    70’s.

    Number 10. The Flower Urchin
Many of you will have come across sea urchins at some point, and some will have found out the hard
way what those sharp spines are for – I certainly have. However, the flower urchin is in a league of its
own when it comes to defensive weaponry. Described by the Guinness Book of Records as the world’s
“most dangerous sea urchin” this is one echinoderm you don’t want to be standing on.
What makes this urchin deadly is the potent venom it is armed with. This venom contains at least two
dangerous toxins; Contractin A, a neurotoxin which causes spasms of the smooth muscles, and peditoxin
    – a protein toxin which can cause convulsions, anaphalactic-type shock and death. The venom is
delivered via the pedicellariae – these are the flower-like structures that give the urchin its name. Once
contact is made with the skin the pedicellariae often break off and continue pumping poison into the
victim. Apparently the size of these pedicellariae is directly related to the potency of the venom.
The flower urchin has been responsible for a number of deaths over the years. As well as being intensely
painful, the urchin sting can result in paralysis, breathing problems, and disorientation can all contribute
    to drowning.

    Number 9. The Great Barracuda
Measuring up to 6ft in length and armed with a terrifying array of super-sharp teeth, the torpedo-like
barracuda is more than capable of inflicting serious injuries. There are actually 22 species of barracuda
but it is only the great barracuda that has been known to attack humans.
The barracuda’s diet consists mainly of small and medium sized fish. It uses its lightning speed and
ambush tactics to catch them. Many of the recorded attacks on humans seem to have involved shiny
objects such as jewelry or even diving knives. Apparently the barracuda are attracted to these, confusing
them with prey fish and strike.
Such attacks can leave the victim with deep gashes, often resulting in nerve and tendon damage or in
the worst case severing blood vessels. These injuries can require hundreds of stitches to patch up.
On rare occasions barracudas have been known to leap out of the water and cause serious injury to
people in boat. One recent case in Florida left a female canoeist fighting for her life after suffering
broken ribs and a punctured lung after a barracuda attack.

    Number 8. The Cone Snail

The cone snail has been a favorite among shell collectors for centuries, but don’t be fooled by its pretty
appearance, these snails are killers! Armed with tiny harpoons formed from modified teeth these
critters can fire a hollow barb loaded with deadly neurotoxins in any direction. The harpoon of some of
the larger species of cone snail is big and powerful enough to not only penetrate human skin, but gloves
    or wetsuits too.
A single drop of the cone snail’s venom is said to be sufficient to kill 20 men making it one of the most
venomous creatures on earth. Known as conotoxins the poison can be highly specific affecting only
certain types of nerves. Whilst this may be of medical interest, the stings generally cause intense,
localized pain with the life-threatening symptoms sometimes taking several days to present. On the
other hand, rapid paralysis of the respiratory system and death can occur shortly after the sting. In fact,
one species of cone snail is known locally as the “cigarette snail” on account of there being just enough
time to smoke one before you die!

Today's topic: Megalodon - 7 prehistoric creatures that are scarier than dinosaurs
Probably you’re familiar with many creatures coming in unusual shapes in the world. However, have you ever wondered how bizarre they are in the prehistory? Today video will give you the answer. As the matter of fact, these animals are extinct now, except for their fossil
    1. Titanoboa
Titanoboa is the biggest python ever. When bringing its size and spinal fossil to compare with those of modern snakes and pythons, researchers estimate that a fully-grown was about 15m long and weighed around 1.1 ton, 10 times heavier than a fully-grown Anaconda.
    2. Sarcosuchus
Sarcosuchus existed during the Cretaceous era, contemporary with dinosaurs. They are not direct ancestors of modern crocodiles but are close relatives.
Sarcosuchus looks quite similar to the Indian Gharials, which are now in danger of extinction.
    3. Megalodon
It's believed that the oceans were dominated by bloodthirsty monsters 20 million years ago.
It is Megalodon - the giant shark with a body that was at least 18m long and serrated teeth. With such a scary look, Megalodon becomes an inspirational image for filmmakers, novelists and scientists alike.
Some people even think that Megalodon still lives somewhere in the ocean, like the story in the movie 'Meg'.
It's just a fictional idea anyway, because Megalodon is officially extinct. But which creature could have caused Megalodon’s extinction?
According to the latest fossil evidence, the culprit seems to be a creature that still exists. They are also kings, creatures on the top of the ocean's food chain.
Scientists think this giant python is the leader in the food chain in the swamp forests of Colombia.
Perhaps the favorable sources of food, warm weather, and swamp ecosystem are the factors that make them grow that big.
Scientists have not been able to explain why the python was that big, but there is speculation that Colombia during the Paleocene Epoch was a tropical area with the average temperature of 32 Celsius degrees.
It’s the warm climate at that time made these cold-blooded pythons to be larger than their relatives today.
    4. Giant centipede
Centipede inheritantly freaks people out but when it comes to the giant one from Amazon, many people even feel creepy because the creature’s body is up to 12inch long.
Amazonian giant centipede in general are carnivorous. They eat insects, lizards, frogs, snakes, birds, mice and even bats or Tarantula.
Centipedes are multi-legged creatures belonging to an arthropod group.
    5. Gigantopithecus blacki
Gigantopithecus blacki existed 9 million years ago whose height is 3 meters and weight is 6 quintals.
They’re considered as the biggest primates on earth. The scientists are studying Gigantopithecus blacki, a shaggy, bipedal ape twice the size of an adult human.
They lived in the forests of Southeast Asia before hundreds of thousand years ago extinction.
November 13, a research published on Nature had an intention to determine the position of G. blacki in primate family tree.
    G. blacki is much bigger than the great apes that alive today. It is about 3m high and weighs up to 600 kg. However, their fossils are rare and hard to find. Researchers could have excavated only a few thousand teeth and 4 incomplete jaws, leading to many questions about the evolution and shape of them.
    and more

In the animal kingdom, there have always been predators. While the predators of today are absolutely
terrifying, they don’t hold a candle to prehistoric predators. Today we will be counting down the top 10
predatory dinosaurs. Number one is a no brainer, but do watch out for it.

    Number 10. The Yutyrannus
    When named in
Study of the fossil site of the Yutyrannus holotype indicates that it would have been at a high elevation
back in the early Cretaceous with a cool average air temperature.
Feather debate aside, there is no doubt that the yutyrannus is a voracious predator, although it was
quite a bit smaller than its tyrannosaur cousins.

    Number 9. The Giganotosaurus
Giganotosaurus was one of the largest meat-eating dinosaurs. It roamed modern-day Argentina during
the late Cretaceous Period, about 99.6 to 97 million years ago. For a long time, Tyrannosaurus rex —
"king of the dinosaurs" — was thought to be the largest carnivorous dinosaur. Today, Giganotosaurus is
believed to have been slightly larger than T. rex, though even Giganotosaurus ranks behind Spinosaurus
in size among the meat-eating dinosaurs.
First described in a 1995 study in the journal Nature, Giganotosaurus was, at the time, thought to be the
largest carnivorous dinosaur. The specimen analyzed was up to 41 feet long from head to tail, and
weighed between 6.6 and 8.8 tons, the researchers estimated.
Not only large, but quite fast as well. Models suggest that Giganotosaurus could run up to 31.3 mph,
according to a 2001 article in the journal Acta Palaeontologica Polonica. Any faster and the animal would
lose its stability and fall over, rather like me when I decide to run.

    Number 8. The Megalosaurus
Megalosaurus was a very large theropod for its day, reaching between 23 and 30 feet long, and weighing
1.5 to 2 tons, it one of the largest. It had somewhat short, but strong arms with sharp, hooklike claws on
three fingers, perfectly designed for gripping onto prey and slashing into its flesh. It also had long,
powerful hindlegs, good for chasing down prey. Its tail, like most other theropods, was built to help
balance it while moving. It had a long, narrow skull with sharp, bladelike teeth for slicing through the
    flesh of other creatures.
His hunting techniques were very cruel. first, he taken prey on the ground, then eat the victim alive.
Funnily enough, paleontologist though very differently on how this dinosaur looked. They were
originally described as large, lumbering lizards instead of large, upright, birdlike reptiles. Just picture a

Komodo Dragon, walking on all fours with its tail dragging on the ground. No offense to the komodo
dragon, but describing this fierce predator as such is a disservice.

    Number 7. The Acrocanthosaurus
    Acrocanthosaurus immediately
    At
Definitely built like a predator, it had 38 curved and serrated teeth contained in a huge skull that could
reach up to 130 cm long. It hunted like most predators with its kind of anatomy; locking down on prey
with their jaws while latching onto them with sharp claws.

    Number 6. The Coelophysis
Coelophysis was an unusual predator. It lived in large herds, something that does not happen in today's
world. Although grazing animals such as wildebeest or caribou live in herds in our modern world, no
predators live in large groups. It’s also the smallest predator to make it on our list. The body of
Coelophysis was only a little larger than a turkey. It had a long slender tail and jaws filled with dozens of
knife-edged teeth. The animal's rear legs were strong and agile. It had feet with three long toes and one
short one, and it was quick to leap away from larger predators.
The front legs of Coelophysis were small and probably were not used for walking. They were more likely
used to gather food. Its head was large, with a pointed snout and large eyes. Coelophysis was a master
of ambush. Perhaps a fish-eater, it seems that this 100-pound predator lived along streams, moving
through ferns and horsetails, always on guard for its enemies. It also ate insects, lizardlike reptiles, and
    other small dinosaurs.
Unlike the giant predatory dinosaurs of later times, the Triassic theropod dinosaurs were also prey. Their
enemies included the enormous phytosaurs, which weighed a ton or more

  • 10 Biggest Sea Dinosaurs That Ever Existed on Earth

Whatever lives in the sea nowadays can't be compared with the huge monsters that dominated the depths millions of years ago. And by “monsters” we mean long-extinct marine reptiles and dinosaurs. Since many people are better acquainted with the land-roaming giants of the past, this video will open your eyes to those that ruled the waters!

Did you know, for example, that pliosauruses were real giants, with the largest species weighing more than 30 tons and growing up to 40 feet long? Also, this animal had an incredibly strong bite. In fact, it was four times more powerful than that of the mighty T-rex!

    SUMMARY:
    - The largest Kronosaurus ever found was 34 feet long from snout to tail and likely weighed about 12 tons. This marine reptile’s teeth weren't really deadly; they were only a few inches long and not all that sharp.
    - . Some experts state that Nothosauruses could snap their long heads sideways to catch a passing fish, kinda like how a crocodile does. Surprisingly, researchers say that these reptiles shared a lot of similar features with the modern sea lion.
    - The Styxosaurus belonged to the Plesiosaur family and lived during the Late Cretaceous Period, around 85 to 70 million years ago. Styxosauruses were about 35 feet in length, but over 16 feet of that consisted just of their long snake-like neck! They had a comparatively small body and weighed approximately 4 tons.
    - The Albertonectes was another representative of the Plesiosaur family, meaning that this marine reptile had a small head on an incredibly long neck and large flipper-like limbs that helped it move through the water. These creatures occupied the seas around North America 76 to 70 million years ago.
    - Thalassomedon means “sea lord” in ancient Greek, and there's a pretty good reason behind this name. These representatives of the Plesiosaur family were huge predators that could reach 40 feet in length. That’s about as big as 4-story building!
    - The Tylosaurus belonged to the Mosasaur family. It dominated the shallow seas of North America about 85 to 80 million years ago. This was an enormous predator, with the biggest representatives reaching 45 feet in length.
    - The Shonisaurus lived on our planet during the Late Triassic Period, approximately 215 million years ago. The remains of this creature were first discovered in Nevada in 1920, not far from the Shoshone Mountains. This prehistoric reptile resembled a huge chubby dolphin.
    - The Mosasaurus is a truly gigantic predator that dominated the seas all over the world about 66 million years ago. According to fossil evidence, some specimens could be more than 50 feet in length. This fact makes the Mosasaurus the biggest marine carnivore of its time.
    - The Shastasaurus is the biggest marine reptile that has ever existed. These predators lived during the Late Triassic Period about 210 million years ago.

World’s 10 Biggest Animals of all Time

Welcome back to another video about animals! We just can’t get enough of them and there are always new things to learn about the animal kingdom. Whether big or small, scary or cute, passive or aggressive, animals can be studied in many different ways, so I hope you’re ready to learn more about them.

In today’s video I’ll be introducing you to the World’s “10 Biggest Animals of All Time” Maybe you’ve already watched the video about the 10 biggest animals in the world, and if you haven’t - you should check it out! But today’s video will focus on the ten biggest animals of all time, which means, we will include animals that are already extinct - at least that’s what we believe! Stay with me all the way to number one and find out if the biggest animal of all time is one that still exists today or perhaps a new one.

    Let’s begin.

    Paraceratherium

I think some of you were surprised when the elephant wasn’t included in the world’s biggest animals! Well, today I’m giving you something bigger than the elephant. And it’s not the mamut. I’m talking about the paraceratherium, which holds the title of being the largest land mammal that has ever lived. They were about 7 meters tall, which makes them taller than modern day giraffes, and they weighed between thirty-three and forty-four thousand pounds. This makes them almost three times heavier than the heaviest elephants we have today. Just like elephants, they were not an immediate threat to other animals or humans because they were herbivores. But with a size that big, I’m sure they were intimidating and kept predators at a distance. It seems like they went extinct when the landscapes in Central Asia started to transform, making it hard for the paraceratherium to find the means to survive. I wonder what it would have been like to see one of these in the wild. I’m sure we would have been able to spot them from very far away.

    Whale Shark

And here is one that we previously saw on the biggest animals in the world: The Whale Shark.
So let me refresh (or introduce you to) some facts about this impressive animal. First of all, the whale shark is the largest fish in the world! That’s right, although its name implies otherwise, this animal is not a whale, but it’s a fish. The name is a reference to its massive size and if you haven’t seen one yet, you’d probably think it’s a whale. They can reach a size of 14 meters long and can weigh up to 41,000 pounds. They are known for having long lives, some of them make it to 150 years!

With their enormous size, they could easily reign in the underwater world - especially when they move across the major oceans. However, they’re filter feeders, which means that they mainly eat plankton and small fish that get caught in their big mouths. They are quite friendly and sometimes they can be spotted swimming with humans!

    Leedsichthys

While the whale shark is the largest fish in today’s world, it is not the largest fish in history! There’s a fish that was larger and that’s the leedsichthys, but it’s actually not far from the size of whale sharks. Earlier estimates stated that a leedsichthys could be about 27 meters long. However, later studies have shown that they might have been only 16 meters long, which is still a bit bigger than the whale sharks, but not for that much. Also, they were heavier, weighing about 43,000 pounds. And just like the whale shark, the leedsichthys was also a filter feeder, eating plankton, shrimp, jellyfish and any small creature that got stuck in its mouth. I wish we had the leedsichthys today, but at least we still have the whale shark, which is close enough!

5 Animals That Can Live After Death

Can you think of any animal more fearsome than the dinosaurs that roamed our planet till about 66 million years ago? Probably not. But there were, in fact, monstrous pre-historic creatures that not only rivalled the dinosaurs in size, strength, ferocity and threat level, but often made prey of them. Yes, they were the hunters and the dinosaurs ended up as dinner. So, let’s get on with it. The five animals that were scarier than dinosaurs:

    5. Mosasaurus

You’ve heard the phrase “in the lion’s mouth”, which is used for a situation fraught with risk and danger. Now scale that up a hundred notches and think about peering into the gaping mouth of a pre-historic mosasaurus. What it would have meant was certain and painful death. This marine lizard lived more than 145 million years ago during what is called the Cretaceous Period. It had a massive jaw full of curved, conical teeth and a set of powerful incisors capable of piercing any large prey. It used these to bite and cut its food before swallowing it, sometimes whole. The mosasaurus was also frighteningly big, one of the largest in the mosasaur family. It grew to a length of 30 feet to 50 feet, making it longer than a T-rex. It had a serpentine body and a powerful tail that it used to swim in a side-to-side motion. A fossil record stretching over 27 million years has given researchers a pretty good idea about mosasaurs. Research says that mosasaurs evolved from terrestrial lizards, rapidly adapted to the oceans and spread across the globe. Unfortunately for these deadly marine predators, studies suggest they were also hunted by other fierce creatures like sharks and ended up as food themselves. Today, the closest living relatives of the mosasaurus would be snakes and monitor lizards like the komodo dragon. And they’re plenty scary themselves.

    4. Quetzalcoatlus

For the next entry on our list, think of a 16-foot-tall creature with the head of a stork, the neck of a giraffe and the body of a bat. This ungainly mess would be the quetzalcoatlus northropi, the largest known flying animal to have lived on earth 66 million years ago. And the weirdest of all god’s creations, one might add. To this day, researchers are fascinated by the quetzalcoatlus and its fellow pterosaurs or flying lizards, mainly because pterosaur fossils have been incredibly hard to trace. This is because the creatures had hollow bones that turned to dust very quickly. Little was left of them after they went extinct, it seems. In the case of the quetzalcoatlus, all available information comes from the discovery of a few fossil fragments at the Big Bend National Park in Texas in the 1970s. What is known about this great flying beast is that it had a wingspan of 35 feet and that it was an expert glider, capable of staying in the air for a week at a time, covering great distances and going up to great speeds. With an enormous six-foot-long jaw, the quetzalcoatlus was capable of eating large prey. It also had expert fishing skills. And, apparently, a penchant for plucking baby dinosaurs. Remember that scene from 2015’s Jurassic World with a swarm of pterosaurs swooping down and flying off with hapless humans hanging off their beaks? That’s a bit of a stretch, given that pterosaurs ceased to exist long, long before the first humans arrived on the scene. But I’d still guess the baby dinos would have been just as frightened as those screaming extras in the movie.

    3. Thalattoarchon

On to the next creature now. This one might remind you a bit of the fabled Loch Ness monster. Only, think of a sea monster a hundred times scarier, with a much larger head, and more real than old Nessie. That would be the thalattoarchon, or thalattoarchon saurophagis, which translates to “lizard-eating ruler of the sea”. Going by our list, it does seem the lizard was the undisputed king of our planet many, many eons ago. At 28 feet long, this marine predator was as big as a bus and went after prey its own size. This aspect of its character makes it similar to the modern-day orcas and great white sharks. The thalattoarchon belongs to the family of ichthyosaurs, the top marine reptiles of their time. It is the most recently discovered of the pre-historic creatures. Its fossil was partially excavated in Nevada in 1998 and fully dug up in 2010.

10 Scary Extinct Animals That Actually Existed
You know, humans are very lucky to have evolved quite late in the evolutionary timeline. If we arrived
maybe just a few million tears earlier, we might have not ended up being the dominant species that we
are today. We would probably be too scared to leave our caves, mainly because of these animals.
Number one is especially frightening so stay tuned for that. Here are 10 scary extinct animals that
    actually existed.

    Number 10. Pentecopterus
Many people just hate creepy crawlies, especially scorpions. It probably has something to do with their
menacing looks, painful and sometimes even venomous stings, and a couple of pincers that look like
they can sever fingers with no effort at all. Good thing we weren’t around 450 million years ago,
because if today’s scorpions creep you out, imagine what an 8-foot long scorpion will do to your nerves.
Pentecopterus was a species of sea scorpion that was just discovered back in 2015. They are the oldest
scorpion species ever discovered, with their fossils dated to be around 458 to 467 million years old. With
the few fossils that we have, we can deduce that it wasn’t the biggest scorpion ever, but at over 6 feet
long, it’s not really a pixie either.
It was described as fierce and predatory, and was thought to occupy the top of the food chain in the
waters where it called home, and it probably fed on any creature smaller than itself.

    Number 9. Hallucigenia
Nope, despite the name, this has nothing to do with hallucination inducing pharmaceuticals. But given
that this next item on our list is a worm with legs, you will be forgiven if you think you are hallucinating.
Hallucigenia is unlike nearly any living animal today, although it was likely the ancestor to modern day
arthropods. There were over 109 specimens of these strange aquatic creatures, and they ranged in size
from 0.5 to 3 cm long. It had a round, worm-like body that was likely squishy to the touch.
Like arthropods and worms, it was an invertebrate, so it didn't have a backbone, however it did have
hard, sharp spikes that stuck out of its back and likely kept potential predators away. It also had clawed,
tentacle-like appendages which functioned more or less like legs that helped it move around the ocean
    floor.
It also had a weird head which had a pair of simple eyes, and weirdly, what seemed to be a permanent
grin on its face, like the one you see on the face of someone who’s up to no good.

    Number 8. Meganeura
Yep, we’re still keeping it in the terrifying insect category, and when it comes to fright factor, this one
ranks up there with the scariest of them.

    First discovered in France in

It is generally considered that the maximum potential size of an insect is dictated by how much oxygen is
available in the atmosphere. Today, 21% of the atmosphere is breathable oxygen, but back in the
carboniferous era, it was around 35%. And because of the abundance of oxygen, insects like Meganeura
were able to grow to epic sizes.
Meganeura is likely to have hunted and fed in much the same way as dragonflies do today,

    Number 7. Dunkleostus
Long before enormous sharks like the great white, long before even the giant marine reptiles of the Age
of Dinosaurs, in a world where animal life had only just begun to leave the seas, the biggest, meanest,
scariest predator around was an armored sea monster named Dunkleosteus.
These fish had thick, bony plates covering their skulls, and with a full body length of up to 20 feet, the
armored head gear of the largest Dunkleosteus fossils are positively nightmarish. Dunkleosteus did not
have true teeth; instead, the skull's bony plates extended into sharpened "fangs" in front of the mouth.
These fangs scraped together, continuously sharpening each other as the fish opened and closed its
    jaws.
The actual hunting and feeding style of Dunkleosteus is also a popular subject of interest.

    Number 6. Deinosuchus
The "deino" in Deinosuchus derives from the same root as the "dino" in dinosaur, meaning "fearsome"
or "terrible." In this case, the description is perfect: Deinosuchus was one of the largest prehistoric
crocodiles that ever lived, attaining lengths of up to 33 feet from head to tail and weights in the
neighborhood of five to 10 tons. And although it’s significantly smaller than its predecessor, the
Sarcosuchus, it was definitely no less frightening. In fact, it can be said that it duked it out with more
ferocious opponents than its predecessor. There is actual fossil evidence that the Deinosuchus regularly
fought, and won, against the T-Rex.

    Top Ten Sharks Scarier Than
    The Megalodon
If you've watched the movie, Meg, you'd probably think that the Megalodon is the scariest sea monster
in the world. And it's easy to see why you may think that.
The Megalodon is an insanely big prehistoric monster and could grow as long as 50 feet. Asides that, we
are almost certain that the Megalodon had the strongest bite force of all its peers.
However, the Megalodon isn't the scariest sea monster. In fact, there are ten sea monsters far scarier,
and on this video, we'll go running through them all.
This is it. Here are the ten sea monsters definitely scarier than the Megalodon.
    #10 Stethacanthus
When it comes to size, this strange shark is certainly not outstanding. I mean, most other sharks on this
list are way larger than it. However, one trait of the Stethacanthus made sure it could make this list.
And what's that trait? The shark has an extremely unique dorsal fin that scientists haven't been able to
fully explain or understand yet. And yes, this dorsal fin would have been extremely scary to human
beings. Thankfully, this animal died out about two hundred million years ago so we didn't even have to
be scared to death of it.
The unusual dorsal fin of this shark resembles an anchor or an ironing board, and small spikes covered
this crest to make it even scarier.
Scientists believe that this unusually shaped fin was mostly used for mating rituals, and this belief is
better reinforced when you consider that only males had this weird thing jutting out of their heads.

    #9 Blue Whale
The blue whale is the only animal on this list to not be extinct, and I know what you're thinking. How is
the blue whale even scarier than the Megalodon?
Well, did you know that the Blue whale is literally the largest sea animal to ever exist? Yes. Bigger than
even the Meg, and a lot of dinosaurs. There has never been a sea monster larger than the Blue Whale,
    and that's just a fact.

Do you still think the Blue Whale is not scary? Imagine if you were a diver and you suddenly came into
contact with a large shark that was bigger than a three-storey building. Wouldn't you be scared straight
    out of your mind?
That's exactly the kind of animal the Blue Whale is. It can grow up to an immense and frankly
outrageous length of 98 feet and weighs about 190 tons.
Thankfully, these whales aren't a fan of human meat. Or meat, generally. The diet of Blue whales is
largely confined to krills which are small fishes that are usually found together in large groups. That's
probably the only reason it isn't higher up on this list.
Despite the fact that a Blue Whale may not want to eat a tasty human being, you would certainly be
scared if you see this gigantic animal swimming towards you.
    #8 Plesiosaurs
Look, when I think of scary I think of large teeth, a jaw that can grind a small plane and huge menacing
eyes. I generally don't think of a lumbering long-necked turtle-like creature that looks like it could
smother just about anything to death.
Regardless of this, fear is the overwhelming emotion people feel when they see the Plesiosaurs. This
animal lived over a hundred and thirty million years ago and looks like something from the imagination
of a disturbed child. If you think that the Plesiosaurs looks like the Loch Ness monster, you may not be
wrong. In fact, this animal served as the inspiration of the Loch Ness monster, and its unique anatomy
means that it's the subject of a lot of controversy in the scientific community.
When Mary Anning, a renowned palaeontologist, first discovered the bones of this prehistoric sea
creature, people said that she had forged it. Why? They simply could not believe that such an animal
could exist. But she was right, and other fossils proved it.

    #7 Mosasaurus
Have you watched Jurassic world? If you have, you'd know that one of the scariest dinosaurs is the
Mosasaurus, an actual real-life monster that roamed the seas millions and millions of years ago. These
simply gigantic reptiles could swallow their prey whole but they usually preferred to slice their prey into
small bite-sized morsels with their extremely sharp backward bending teeth.
The reptile had a mass of about fourteen thousand kilograms and could reach a length of about eighteen
    meters.
So, why did these animals go extinct? What was that huge thing that could have made them leave the
face of the earth never to be seen again? Well, scientists don't exactly know. However, they know the

Mosasaurus aren't in existence today for the same reasons that we no longer see dinosaurs walking
    about in North America.

10 Extinct Animals Scientists Are Ready to Bring Back

    If you're new, Subscribe! →

It has been said that there are more plant and animal species that have gone extinct than all the species

that are alive today. This is such a shame, especially for the scientific community, who would have given

up anything to see and study these creatures while they are alive. But with recent technological
advancements in genetics and cloning, bringing some of these extinct animals back to life seems more of
a possibility now more than ever. Today we will be looking at 10 extinct animals that scientists want to
bring back from extinction. Make sure you stay tuned for number one. I bet you’ll definitely want to see
one of these creatures alive in the future.

    Number 10. The Moa
There were a total of 9 species of moa, all of them found in New Zealand. They are large and flightless
birds; easy to hunt and a good source of meat. That’s why when the Polynesians occupied New Zealand
in the 13 th century, they were relentlessly hunted to extinction. As one of the hundreds of species whose
extinction can be directly blamed on humans, they are a prime candidate for de-extinction. And now,
after 700 years of being extinct, the mighty may again roam this earth, and it might happen sooner than
    you think.
Very recently, scientists were successfully able to assemble the first nuclear genome of an extinct moa
species, that of the tiny bush moa. At first, this doesn’t seem that big of an accomplishment, as the
genome is but a partial draft, but scientists working on the project say that this was no easy task and is
already a defining moment in the project.
With this success, they are pretty confident that the genomes of the remaining 8 species of moa will be
assembled soon enough. After that, the reality of seeing these giant birds alive becomes so much closer.

    Number 9. The Pyrenean Ibex
The Pyrenean Ibex is a sub species of the Spanish Ibex and is one of the animal species that went extinct
within the last 20 years. For more than 200 years, they were hunted for sport and for meat, until the last
specimen died in the year 2000. Since then, attempts have been made to bring back this species from
    the dead.
Actually, the Pyrenean Ibex was technically de-extincted back in 2006, but immediately went extinct
again in just a few minutes. Using genetic material from the frozen skin of the last ibex, they were able
to successfully produce a clone by creating embryos and implanting them in Spanish Ibex’s. This clone,
however, had a deformed respiratory system hence it lived only a few minutes after birth. This event
marked the first successful attempt at de-extinction by way of cloning.
With this success, you might think that it’s now going to be a breeze bringing back extinct animals, just
as long as scientist have some viable genetic material. However, this is so far from the truth. The success
rate of cloning is extremely low. Out of the hundreds of embryos created and implanted into surrogates,
only one made it to full term, and even this one had birth defects.

But despite the difficulties, scientists are confident that they will be able to bring back the Pyrenean Ibex
from extinction. It’s now only a matter of time.

    Number 8. The Quagga
It’s thought that the quagga became extinct due to overhunting in 1883, but in 1984, genealogy
technology revealed that the quagga was actually a subspecies of the plains zebra, meaning it has the
same DNA. The two species share the same genotype, though their observable characteristics are
different. The Quagga Project was started to try to recreate the quagga through artificial selection of
plains zebras. The project has had some success: The first quagga-like zebra foal was born in January
2005, and the fifth generation foal was born in December 2013. Scientists hope continued selective
breeding will lead to generations of plains zebras almost identical to the extinct quagga, which could
then be released in the wild.

    Number 7. The Heath Hen
The heath hen was one of the first animal species that received a conscious effort from people regarding
their conservation. These birds were extremely common in the northeastern US and were likely eaten at
the Pilgrims’ first Thanksgiving dinner in 1621. Once inhabiting habitats from Maine to the Carolinas, the
Heath Hen was hunted aggressively for the next 300 years so by 1870

  • Mariana Trench Creatures That Are Scarier Than Megalodon

    11:21

What’s scarier than the prehistoric Megalodon that used to live in the Mariana Trench? The sharp-toothed, creepy-looking creatures that currently live there! While much of the Mariana Trench hasn’t been explored yet, what scientists have found so far is absolutely terrifying.

Have you ever heard about the Zombie Worm or the Goblin Shark? Do you know that there is an octopus that swallows his prey whole? Or maybe you know anything about a fish with a transparent head? Watch to learn more about the creepy creatures that lie in the world’s deepest waters. But be warned: You may never want to swim in the ocean again.

    SUMMARY:
    - The Fangtooth is carnivorous and feeds on just about anything it can find that gets caught in its sharp-toothed mouth. These fish rely on their “contact chemoreception” to find prey.
    - The Dumbo Octopus is the deepest living octopus scientists know of, according to oceana.org. They are known as “umbrella octopuses” since their arms are connected by webbed skin. When they spread them apart, they look like an umbrella…a slimy, hungry, deep-sea umbrella.
    - You can see through the Barreleye Fish’s head! Some scientists believe that this transparent head lets the fish collect a bit more light in the dark depths of the sea, which gives them an advantage over other fish that hunt blindly.
    - The Seadevil Anglerfish has a fishing-rod type appendage on its forehead that has a glowing light attached to the end to attract animals. Once these animals come close enough to the light — BAM! They’re captured by the Seadevil’s massive jaws.
    - The Goblin Shark looks like a cross between a shark and a creature from your worst nightmare. These sharks boast a protruding sword-like snout with a jaw that juts out to match. Unlike other sharks that have more of a gray hue, this creepy thing looks not-so-pretty in pink.
    - There are over 40 species of hatchetfish that sport thin bodies covered in shiny scales. That’s why they often look metallic. These fish only grow to be around 6”, but they’re able to handle the pressure of the deep sea, living 5,000 ft below the surface!
    - Not quite. The Zombie Worm isn’t an undead creature of the deep sea; it is very much alive. It’s also known as the Bone Worm, and it can swallow bones of massive mammals like whales.
    - Along with some other creatures on this list, the Deep-Sea Dragonfish relies on its bioluminescent body parts to catch prey. It also uses its hanging appendage, which boasts a little red light on the end, coming out from its lower jaw.
    - Studying the Frilled Shark is like looking through a portal back to prehistoric times. That’s because scientists think that these eel-like sharks haven’t changed much since their oldest ancestors roamed the deep-sea waters, so they’re sometimes referred to as “living fossils.”
    - Scientists believe Liopleurodon thrived in this deep-sea trench because of its ability to swim long distances and its 4 paddle-like limbs. While they probably weren’t able to propel themselves toward prey like other animals of the area, they did manage to accelerate and attack very ruthlessly and efficiently.

    ARTHROPLEURA :-
Arthropleura (Greek for jointed ribs) is a genus of extinct millipede arthropods that lived in what is now northeastern North America and Scotland around 345 to 295 million years ago, from the Viséan stage of the lower Carboniferous Period to the Asselian stage of the lower Permian Period.

    MEGALADON :-
Megalodon, (Carcharocles megalodon), member of an extinct species of megatooth shark (Otodontidae) that is considered to be the largest shark, as well as the largest fish, that ever lived. Fossils attributed to megalodon have been found dating from the early Miocene Epoch (which began 23 million years ago) to the end of the Pliocene Epoch (about 2.6 million years ago). The word megalodon, a compound of Greek root words, means “giant tooth.”

    SARCOSUCHUS :-
Sarcosuchus is an extinct species of crocodyliform; distant relatives of living crocodylian species; that lived beter 129 - 112 million years ago. It dates from the Early Cretaceous Period of the landmass; now identified as Africa and South America.
It was bigger than the modern day Saltwater Crocodile (which grows up to 7.01m and weighs up 2000 kilograms.)
