    8. Liger
It might sound like something out of a fantasy movie but ligers are real. A cross between a male lion and a female tiger, the liger is the result of man-made breeding but because lions are from Africa and tigers are from Asia, the liger is not something usually found in nature.

    7. Asiatic Lions
Lions are one of the most majestic animals in the world, but that doesn’t mean they are not at risk. The Asiatic lion is one such species whose numbers are dwindling. With only several hundred of the lions still surviving, the Asiatic lion, which is smaller than other lions, are only found in a very small area of the world.

    6. Barbary Lion
Barbary, or Atlas lions, were once known to roar through the deserts of northern Africa, often found from Morocco to Egypt. They were the largest of the lion subspecies, admired for their dark manes and known to have been once kept by royal families of Morocco and other northern Africa nations. You might know these lions best as ones that battled gladiators in ancient Roman Coliseum, as well as being displayed at many European zoos.

They were the largest of the lion subspecies, admired for their dark manes and known to have been once kept by royal families of Morocco and other northern Africa nations. You might know these lions best as ones that battled gladiators in ancient Roman Coliseum, as well as being displayed at many European zoos.

    5. Transvaal Lion
One of the more unique species of lions are the Transvaal lion. Named for the Transvaal region of Africa where they were found, this lion looks different than others on first sight.

    4. Ethiopian Lion
In a remote national park in Ethiopia, a species of lion believed to be extinct was rediscovered in 2016. Wildlife conservationists from Oxford University in England had heard stories from park staff and locals about lions living in the Alatash National Park in North West Ethiopia, near Sudan.

    3. Addis Ababa Lion
While you might think all lion species are related in some way, researchers recently discovered the Addis Ababa lion in Ethiopia is actually genetically different than other lion populations. Due to this finding, their hope is for stricter conservation actions to preserve the vulnerable species.

    2. White Lion
In March of 2018, wildlife guides at a game reserve in South Africa came upon a sight they never expected - a rare white lion cub in the wild. While watching a male lion sleeping near the Timbavati river, a field guide at the reserve named Lyle McCabe heard the call of a young cub coming from a nearby thicket.

    1. Cape Lion
The second largest and heaviest of lion subspecies, the Cape Lion weighed over 600 pounds and was 1.5 times larger than the average African lion. Distinguished by its thick black mane and gold fringe around its face, the big cat was known to grow up to 11 feet long and weight up to 500 pounds.

10 Craziest Animal Incidents That Actually Happened.

The world is full of wild, weird, and wonderful things for us to see, but there is no doubt that incidences
involving animals are the most intriguing.
From two-headed shark to rhinos that can fly, the animal kingdom sure does know how to offer some of
the strangest and craziest stories that will hopefully make you feel entertained.
Hello dear viewer and welcome to yet another interesting episode of 100m, where we’ll look at 10
craziest animal incidents that actually happened.

    #10. The Largest Anaconda Ever
The Anaconda is reckoned to be the world’s largest and heaviest snake, with a maximum verified length
of about 30 feet and an estimated maximum weight of up to 550 pounds.
Yet, most anacondas you’ll find slithering across the Amazon forest floor will range between 17 to 20
feet long and probably average somewhere between 150 to 200 pounds.
As such, it came as a shock, when terrified Brazilian construction workers claimed to have captured an
insanely massive 33-foot-long green anaconda lurking in the caves near the dam they were building back
    in 2016.
Shocking footage of the discovery showed the huge snake chained to a crane and lifted as the workers
tried to estimate its size. The yellow-spotted underbelly confirmed without a doubt that they had
    captured an anaconda.
And if the estimates of this crazy massive serpent could be verified, then it would truly have been a
    historic discovery.

    #9. Mountain Lion Attack
Most people recognize that big cats are terrifying killing machines in the wild. And thankfully, these
dangerous predators live deep in the jungles or in the less-visited parts of the savannahs. Attacks on
humans are rare, but they do happen and the chances of a fatality are extremely likely.
Even so, survival is not uncommon.
In December 2010, one Frank Harmes was lucky to survive getting clawed by what he called a mountain
lion while hunting in the woods of Union Grove. The wild cat Harmes faced was only a juvenile, but it
was likely that a group of other mountain lions were within the vicinity and would have done more
    damage.

Fearing a repeat of a similar terrifying incident, the local authorities warned the residents to be alert and
recognize that big cats – whether they are called mountain lions, panthers, or cougars –roam the
mountains and woods of Marshall and Morgan counties.

    #8. Pet Hippo Rampage
    Forget lions, rhinos, crocs, and buffalos. Hippopotamuses are the most dangerous animals in Africa;
responsible for more human deaths than any other large animal on the continent.
Despite their slightly amusing appearance and friendly-sounding name, everyone knows not to pet a
Hippos. I heard they can attack without warning and without any provocation at all. Plus, the statistics
don’t lie. Hippos are said to be up there with the most dangerous killer animals in Africa.
Well, for one South African, five-month-old pet Hippo he had rescued and raised into a hunk of a 1.2-ton
bull, would never harm him in any way.
One day, however, Humphrey was acting up and nearly devoured an entire farm of different crops, and
the peak of his range saw him end his “dad’s” life.

    #7. It’s a Two-Headed Shark!
It’s not every day you see a shark with two heads.
Talk of such terrifying monsters may sound like a figment of the big screen, but more and more of these
creatures are turning up across the seven seas.
This particular two-headed shark came as a surprise to the fishermen who dragged it off the Australian
coast. The mutant fish was only a 6-inch Atlantic sawtail catshark but scientists fear that such creatures
could grow past their infancy. They suspect that overfishing has reduced the gene pool for most sea
creatures, leading to the emergence of some really bizarre genetic abnormalities in the aquatic species.
I’d like to imagine that there are no freakishly massive two-headed sharks out there, but if all this talk of
numerous two-headed sharks being discovered across the globe is no fish tale, then we are doomed
    indeed.
    #6. Deep-Sea Ghost Shark
Nature sure does know how to make those of us who are terrified of the sea, even more, wary of the
    waters.
If you’re terrified of even a harmless twig drifting near you when you’re taking a dip, then you will be
scared-stiff of this deep-sea ghost shark that was filmed for the first time off California.
While all sharks are terrifying, this pointy-nosed blue chimera is a different kind of monster.

  • BIGGEST Group MALE LIONS Ever Recorded - real or fake?

    7:48

Is this the biggest group of male lions ever recorded together? Link to Paul Hart Lion Rescue Video

African lion prides consist of up to three males, around a dozen females, and their young, according to National Geographic. There are prides that have as many as 40 members, though. Asian lions divide themselves into two prides. The females have a pride and the males have a pride.

The lion is one of the big cats in the Felidae family and a member of genus Panthera. It has been listed as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List since 1996, as populations in African range countries declined by about 43% since the early 1990s

Zoos are great and everyone loves to get a glimpse of some rare animals but from time-to-
time things just don't go as planned. Join us, as we have a look at some of the most shocking
moments to happen at the zoo. Number will definitely give you chills, so watch out for that!
    Number 10.) Tatiana, The Tiger
Tigers are one of the most powerful animals on land. They are some of the fastest of the big
cats in their species and can weigh up to a shocking six hundred pounds. Some tigers in the
wild have been known to kill hundreds of herbivores in their lifetime, for the sake of
themselves or for that of their families. Tigers are in fact, killing machines of nature, and they
can run incredibly fast in comparison to humans and have incredible jaw strength. With that
being said, you can well imagine how frightening it would be if such an animal escapes its
enclosure, right? Well, that's exactly what occurred at the Denver Zoo when a certain tiger
named Tatiana escaped. Tatiana is a Siberian tiger born in the Denver zoo in 2003 and was
later transferred to the San Francisco Zoo. In 2007 on Christmas day, the tiger somehow
escaped the enclosure which was surrounded by a 15 ft oat and 20 ft high wall. Tatiana then
went to attack and kill a 17-year old boy as well and injuring two more individuals in her
spree of freedom. When the police arrived, the tiger then turned her attention to them but then
the officers shot the 350-pound jungle cat down, killing her right where she stood. Zoo
officials are still dumbfounded as to how the tiger escaped her captivity and a year before the
escape, Tatiana had also publicly attacked her trainer during a feeding session.
Number 9.) A Home Zoo Gone Wrong
Zoos are entertaining, but they are hard to upkeep, and it requires a large staff to clean, feed,
and care for all of the animals at a zoo. It is also important that these creatures do not escape

and wreak havoc anywhere except their cages. So, who in the world would want to have a
zoo in their house? But seems like it's not as cool as it is shown in the movies and we can see
why in the story of a Vietnam war veteran named Terry Thompson who had his own zoo
called the Muskingum County Animal Farm in Ohio. Terry's zoo was full of exotic animals
and he had been in trouble with the authorities for years for providing inadequate and unsafe
housing for them. In 2011, the zoo owner decided that he had had enough and that's when he
freed every single of his 55 animals and then shot himself in the head. The town of Zanesville
Ohio was overrun with wild and exotic animals which included 18 Bengal tigers, 17 lions, 6
black bears, 3 mountain lions, a monkey, some grizzly bears and, some baboons. A lion also
managed to eat one of the baboons among all of the chaos. Officials from the town were
understandably overwhelmed and to prevent all of the animals from infiltrating the town
completely, a mass slaughter had to occur and every single of the animals was shot dead.
Number 8.) Climbing Into The Lion's Den
Drugs are never a good idea, and when you are on drugs, especially meth, you may do some
things that you would have otherwise not have done, like jumping into a lions' den. That
sounds crazy, right? No one would do that, as that's a one-way ticket to the grave. Well, that
unfortunate event happened in Taiwan to one unlucky man. A 46-year old man named Jane
Ho Chen was extremely mentally unstable and abusing amphetamines and alcohol. Under the
drug influence, he managed to climb into a lion's den in the Taipei Taiwan zoo. The man took
off his jacket and hurled it around as if he was ready for a bullfight and the lions that were
inside reacted by attacking him, grabbing the jacket, and then mauling him. Surprisingly, it
didn't prompt him to try to escape out of the enclosure, and instead, he sat down on a log and
waited to see what they would do next. That's when the lion attacked again, biting his arm
and the leg. The man continued to stay inside the cage and allowed the lions to attack him.
Officials were only able to get the man out by shooting the lions with tranquilizer guns and

then tutoring them away from him with a fire hose. When asked later why he had gone in the
lion enclosure, he said that God had told him to do it. Obviously, kids, drugs are bad.
Number 7.) Tilikum, The Literal Killer Whale
Whales are large, but majestic creatures, however, they are terrifying up close, as their size is
to be in awe of. Some whales can reach multiple tons in weight, which is no small feat, as
most cars don't equal even two tons in weight.

    10. Amazonian Giant Centipede
The Amazonian Giant Centipede (Scolopendra gigantea) is without a doubt one of the creepiest inhabitants crawling around the Amazon jungle. It’s also the largest centipede in the entire world, reaching lengths of 12 inches(30cm), with 46 legs.

    9. Brazilian Wandering Spider
The Guiness Book of World Records called the Brazilian Wandering Spider the most toxic spider in the world. Also known as banana spiders, they are mostly found in the lush Amazon Rainforests. They’re nocturnal, and hide out during the day, often in banana plants which is where they get their nickname.

    8. Electric Eel
Just recently, scientists discovered two new species of electric eel in the Amazon basin, including one with a record-breaking shock. These freshwater predators are found in the murky streams and rivers of South America. They are not actually eels at all but are more closely related to carp and catfish. The research team that went to Amazon was literally shocked that these enormous eels had gone undetected for so long.

    7. Green Anaconda
The green anaconda is the world’s heaviest snake and one of the longest snakes in the world!! A stocky, muscular snake, Anacondas have thick necks and narrow, large heads. Both their nostrils and their eyes are on the top of their heads, which allows them to see above the water while they remain hidden from view, waiting for their prey to get close before they strike!

    6. Bull Sharks
Bull sharks are extremely unique sharks because they can survive long periods in both saltwater and freshwater. While they spend most of their time along the shallow tropical ocean shorelines, they are also known to venture well upriver, particularly the Amazon!

    5. Bullet Ant
The bullet ant is considered to have one of the most painful stings in the world. As its name suggests, the potent sting from this venomous insect has been compared to being shot by a firearm. Justin O. Schmidt who came up with the Sting Pain Index describes the pain as like ”Walking over flaming charcoal with three inches of nails embedded in your heel.

    4. Jaguar
Jaguars are very secretive and elusive animals. They are the largest cats found in the Americas and are the third-largest cat in the world, after lions and tigers. This large cat can reach more than 8 feet (2.5m) in length and weigh up to 245 pounds (110kg).

    3. Poison Dart Frog
While this brightly coloured little frog may not seem very scary, the poison dart frog is one of the most toxic animals on Earth. One species, the golden poison dart frog, has enough poison in its skin to kill 20,000 mice or 20 fully-grown men.

    2. Red-Bellied Piranha
Piranhas have pretty ferocious reputations, and the red-bellied piranha is no different. It’s a carnivorous fish found in South American rivers and lakes. The red-bellied piranha is one of 20 species found in the Amazon river and it has the strongest jaws and sharpest teeth of all the piranha species.

    1. The Black Caiman
The black caiman is considered to be the deadliest predator of South America, responsible for more attacks on humans than bull sharks and anacondas. They can grow to be over 10 feet long and are strong enough to take on a human no problem. They are very opportunistic and will grab anything they think is easy, lurking in the water until they are ready to strike.

You definitely don't want to get between a predator and its prey lest you become the prey! Those clenching teeth, the giant claws… you don't stand a chance! But what happens when two alpha predators face off against each other? Certainly, a lot of injuries that won't be easy to recover from! They rarely get into fights, but sometimes if they're hungry enough, they'll just go for it. And when they do, it gets ugly pretty fast!
Welcome back to 4 Ever Green, where today we're going to look at some of the incredible apex predators in our world battle it out with each other.
Before we start, we want to know… which animal do you think is the top predator? Is it the lion, the polar bear, or the sperm whale? Leave your answers in the comments below!
    Alright, let's dive in!

    Tiger VS Sloth Bear
It's anyone's guess which animal will come out on top when 2 apex predators fight it out, but you get a lot more clarity when you learn that one of the predators is defending its baby! This tiger decided to mess with the wrong mama when it tried to make a meal out of the sloth bear baby.
This fight took place in Tadoba National Park in India, between a Tiger named Matkasur and a sloth bear that was heading to a water hole with her cub. When the tiger gets too close, the mama bear pounces, and the battle begins! Witnesses say it lasted a good 15 minutes, with the tiger roaring constantly, but that didn't make the sloth bear back down! Luckily, bears have thick fur, which protects them from the worst outcome.
Sloth bears usually weigh over 200 pounds, compared to the tiger's whopping 700 pounds! But when you are defending your child, size is not a factor!

Lions are the second largest cats on Earth, and the only ones to have manes or live in prides. A pride consists of one or two males and several females and their cubs. The lionesses do the hunting, but the lion gets the kill first. It's just good sense! The larger male lion protects the pride from other predators. Once widespread across Africa and even parts of Europe and Asia, lions are now vulnerable to extinction.

    8. Ethiopian Lion
In 2012, a beautiful image of a midnight-black lion went viral, causing some people to question whether black lions really exist. While there have been rumours around the world of black lions, there have been no documented sightings of a completely black lion. These lions would be REALLY good at hunting at night!!

    7. Barbary Lion
The Barbary lion is also called the Atlas lion, and the Nubian lion. It dwelled in the mountains and deserts of northern Africa, from Egypt to Morocco but is now considered extinct in the wild. Barbary lions grew up to seven feet long and weighed up to 500 pounds, and were the largest lion subspecies.

    6. Addis Ababa Lion
In 2012, a population of genetically distinct lions was identified at the Addis Ababa Zoo in Ethiopia. The finding came after the zoo requested help from researchers in Leipzig in proving the lions are unique not only in appearance, but also when it comes to their DNA.

    5. Asiatic Lion
Panthera leo persica, or the Asiatic lion, is one of the few lion species that exist outside of sub-Saharan Africa. This small population dwells in Gujarat, India in the Gir Forest, a former royal hunting ground turned big cat reserve.

    4. White Lion
The white lion is not actually a species of lion; and, contrary to popular belief, they’re not albinos. Their strikingly beautiful color, which ranges from near-blonde to white, results from a rare recessive genetic mutation known as ‘leucism.’

    3. Lion Hybrids
So for those of you who guessed, here is the answer!! A liger results from a male lion breeding with a tigress. A tigon is the product of interbreeding between a male tiger and a lioness. At a Russian zoo in 2012, a female liger mated with a male lion and gave birth to a liliger. Are you confused yet?

    2. West African Lion
The West African lion, Panthera leo leo, has a lighter build, longer legs, and a thinner mane than other lions throughout Africa and is thought to be more genetically similar to the Barbary and Asiatic lions than the sub-Saharan species.

    1. East African Lion
Panthera leo nubica, also called the East African lion or the Masai lion, is a subpopulation inhabiting parts of Southern and East Africa, including Kenya, Ethiopia, Somalia, Uganda, South Sudan, Mozambique, and Tanzania.

10 most unique lions in the world

Found mainly in Africa, lions are the biggest felines in the world, and are often times known as
the "King of the Beasts". Male lions are identifiable from a considerable distance due to their
mane, which can be used as a marking for age, nutrition, and the climate of their habitat. Their
large body weight adds an advantage in taking down prey, in addition to their strong jaws and
sharp claws. Lions are social animals that hunt and reside in groups called prides. There is
usually a strong competition for food because successful hunts are scarce and members of the
pride tend to stuff themselves when food is available. That being said let us get into 10 most
    unique lions in the world.

    10) Southwest African lion
The Katanga lion, also called the Southwest African lion is, as its name divulges, found in
southwestern Africa in the countries of Angola, Zaire, western Zambia and Zimbabwe,
Namibia, and northern Botswana. These lions are one of the largest among the all the other
types of lions. Males can grow to a length of between 8.2 feet to 10.2 feet while females can
reach up to a length of about 7.5 feet to 8.7 feet. Males are also significantly heavier than their
female counterparts and weigh around 140–242 kg while the females weigh about 105–170
kg. The Katanga lions also have lighter colored manes than any other lion subspecies.

    9) Masai lion
The Masai lion is also known as the East African lion and can be found in East Africa where it
resides in the countries of Kenya, Ethiopia, Mozambique, and Tanzania. The Masai lions have
less curved backs and longer legs than all the other subspecies of lion. Small tufts of hair are
present in the knee joints of males which differentiates them from any other species. The
manes of the Masai lion look as though they have been combed backwards, and the older
males have thicker manes than the younger ones and male Masai lions that live in the
highlands more than 2,600 feet above possess heavier manes than those that live in the
lowland areas. Male Masai lions can reach up to a length of about 8.2 feet to 9.8 feet.
Lionesses are a tad smaller with their lengths ranging from 7.5 feet to 8.5 feet.

    8) Ethiopian lion
Whilst the Ethiopian lions are genetically different, they still cluster with other lions from West
Africa, once again displaying a strong influence to lion populations that used to inhabit Europe
and the Middle East. Unfortunately, there are very few surviving populations of lions in
Ethiopia, and those that remain are greatly scattered and isolated. The total number of lions is
estimated to be around 200 to 300. Plus the instability in South Sudan and Somalia threatens
the existence of that lions reside on Ethiopia’s western and southern borders. Obviously, a

crucial programme is needed to gauge the numbers of the remaining populations of lions in
Ethiopia, to stabilize their populations and protect their habitats, and to gradually allow future
    population increases.

    7) Barbary lion
Barbary lions used to be native to North Africa, including the Atlas Mountains but now no
longer exist in the wild. The Barbary lion was thought to be one of the biggest lion subspecies.
They possessed dark, long-haired manes that draped over their shoulders and down to their
belly. It is believed that they developed the colors and size of their manes due to their
surrounding temperatures, their nutrition, and their level of testosterone. It is also highly likely
that they grew out such long manes due to the temperature of the Atlas Mountains, which is a
lot lower than the other areas of Africa. The only Barbary lions to be found now are the ones
that are now living in zoos and are part of a global and collaborative breeding programme to
secure their future survival. Barbary lions are recorded throughout history. The Romans
utilised Barbary lions in the Colosseum to fight with gladiators. Thousands of these cats were
butchered during the reign of Caesar. These lions were also placed in the menagerie in the
Tower of London and were given out as presents to the Moroccan and Ethiopian royal families.
It is thought that the Barbary lions of today are direct descendents of these ‘royal lions’.

    6) Ishasha lion
In lots of areas around the world, it is quite unheard of for lions to climb trees. As a matter of
fact, only two lion populations across the entire planet are known to be those of tree climbing
lions, who do it out of habit. Uganda is one of the lucky habitats for these lions; more
specifically in the Queen Elizabeth National Park’s southern side while the other population
resides in the neighboring Lake Manyara National Park’s southern side in Tanzania.

From some extremely rare subspecies to lions of almost mythical status, here are nine of the most unique lions in the world!

    Subscribe to Epic Wildlife

    9: Barbary Lion
Barbary lions, also known as Atlas lions, are the biggest subspecies of lion currently existing in the world. And we're not talking about ligers! These are legitimate lions, and they actually look quite similar to the lions from Disney’s The Lion King. Barbary lions have been extinct for quite some time, but they are still being kept alive in captivity.

    8: Black Lion
You may have seen images circulating recently online of black lions. These lions are seen standing in the Sahara looking all majestic and beautiful, and they do look extremely real. However, the sad truth is that the black lion is a myth. Every last image online that you see of a black lion is fake.

    7: White Lion
Contrary to popular belief, the white lion is not actually an albino. Neither does the white lion have bleached hair! Instead, the white lion is an extraordinarily unique animal and something of an anomaly in the animal kingdom. White lions are also under threat of extinction. Unfortunately, they have been technically extinct in the wild for almost 15 years.

    6: Liger Hybrid
A lot of people don't know that ligers are real animals. But these are not like mythical chimeras, part lion, part snake, and a part goat! Ligers are the direct result of a male lion breeding with a female tiger. The opposite of a liger is actually known as a tigon, the result of a male tiger mating with a female lion.

    5: Hercules
And continuing with the magnificent ligers, there is a particular kitten that has the title of the biggest living cat according to the Guinness World Records. His name is Hercules. Thanks to his unique genes, with its 131 inches (3.5) long Hercules is incredibly large. He weighs nearly 1000 pounds (450 kg) and eats roughly 30 pounds (14 kg) of meat a day.

    4: Sizanani
Sizanani is one of the most unique lions on the planet. Sizanani was a long-time resident of the Manyeleti Game Reserve in the greater Kruger National Park in South Africa. He was known as a true survivor, according to National Geographic, and was the most famous lion in all of South Africa. He was born in early 2007 into a pride with roughly twenty other young.

    3: Cape Lion
Cape Lions were once some of the most fearsome felines on the planet. They lived on the opposite side of Africa from the Barbary lions, roaming far in the South of South Africa. In fact, this is why they are called Cape lions, since they originated from the Cape of Good Hope. While they no longer exist, as they were sadly hunted and captured to extinction in the 1800s, they were once a very proud and unique race of lions.

    2: Ethiopian Lion
Ethiopia is one of the most amazing countries on earth. It is home to the Ethiopian lion, which is one of the world’s rarest and most unique lions. Why? As recently as 2016 an entire population of Ethiopian lions was discovered in a National Park. There are now an estimated 100 to 200 Ethiopian lions living in the northwest of the country, very near to the Sudanese border.

    1: Cave Lion
Cave Lions are the coolest of all Lions, and so they have to be number one on the list. You may wonder why he is called the cave lion and no, it was not because he lived there but because most of his skeletons were found in bear caves. They probably thought it was a good place to hibernate, but it wasn't!

When you hear the name lion, you only think of a brown big animal living in the wild with lots
of hairs, massive Jaws and claws. Well, what you might not know is some different species of
lions are completely different from the ones we usually see on the TV or in zoos. From some
extremely rare subspecies to lions of almost mythical status, join us as we show the 5 most
unique lions from around the world.
    Number 5.) Liger
Many beautiful animals are created by humans and are not found naturally. One of these amazing
creatures which are also abnormally large is the liger, yes Liger, as in lion and tiger. In this
particular case, this is a male lion combined with a female tiger. Now you might think that this
kind of fusion is made up, but it is very real. The liger is distinct from the similar hybrid called
the tigon and is the largest of all known extant felines. They enjoy swimming, which is a
characteristic of tigers, and are very sociable like lions. Notably, ligers typically grow larger than
either parent species, unlike tigons and they grow up to be almost twice as bigger as their
parents. That's right, twice! The largest liger in existence right now is named Hercules which is
quite appropriate given the figure of Hercules in Greek mythology. Hercules is found in Myrtle
beach's safari wildlife preserve in South Carolina. His stats are very impressive. For just in terms
of length, he is 10 ft long and in terms of height, he is 4 ft tall. He weighs over 900 pounds. Now,
imagine yourself standing next to Hercules and see just how massive and ferocious he is close
up. How do you think you'd feel? I think I'd be a bit scared probably. Despite being in captivity,

Hercules is shown to run 55 miles per hour and has a running leap of over 40 ft. Hercules also
has the world record for being the largest cat in the world today.
    Number 4.) Asiatic Lion
As we say the word lion and ask you where lions live, two answers that you'd likely give us are
that they live in zoos and Africa. For the most part, you'd be absolutely correct, the most of the
lion species mostly reside in Africa. However, there is a small sect of them that lives in Asia,
hence they were given the name Asiatic lions. As for where these particular species of lions
reside, they live in a forest in India, known as the Gir forest. Quite interestingly though, the
Asiatic lions did not start in India but rather that's where they ended up. At one point in time,
they roamed in the Middle East of Asia, before slowly being hunted to near-extinction and
pushed to where they are now in the Gir Forest. It is ironic though that the Gir Forest was once
the hunting ground for the royals of India to go and kill the lions, but now the entire forest where
the lions are located is reserved to keep the lions alive as their numbers are still very small.
Though they are endangered, their current population is said to be stable, a far cry from where
they were some time ago. In May 2015, the 14th Asiatic Lion Census was conducted over an
area of about 20,000 km2 and the Asiatic lion population was estimated at 523 individuals. The
15th Asiatic Lion Census could not be conducted in 2020, as scheduled, because of the COVID-
19 pandemic. The Asiatic Lion can be longer than how a human is tall and can weigh up to 500
pounds as well as live a life of eighteen years and sometimes even longer.
    Number 3.) Barbary Lion
In the world, today, preservation and defending of various animals from illegal poaching and
hunting is a paramount endeavor, and one of the reasons that people feel so strongly about it is

the loss of animals such as the Barbary lions. The Barbary lions are also called "North African
lion", "Berber lion", "Atlas lion", and "Egyptian lion" and at one point in time, the Barbary lions
used to roam in the Northern part of Africa including places like Egypt and Maghreb. Their
numbers were quite populous in history however,
with the arrival of firearms and gunpowder in
the region, the ability to kill the lions became much more plausible. Rampant hunting erupted in
the region and the results of that unrestricted hunting were the unfortunate extinction of the
Barbary lions from that region. To be clear, regionally extinct animal means that animal is not
anywhere in the region it was associated with, but it is not extinct globally. However, the
numbers of Barbary lions in the world today are very small. Most of them now reside in zoos, in
an attempt to breeding and rebuilding the population.

The lion is a species in the family Felidae and a member of the genus Panthera. It has a muscular, deep-chested body, short, rounded head, round ears, and a hairy tuft at the end of its tail. It is sexually dimorphic; adult male lions have a prominent mane.

10 Most Unique Lions In The World
For centuries, lions have been revered as one of the most powerful cats in the world. And that’s one of the reasons why you’ll find them in the front or back of the emblem of many nations around the globe. But did you know that there are actually different subspecies of lions spread across two continents?
With that being said, we’ll take a look at 10 of the most unique and exotic lion subspecies in the world. We’re pretty sure you’ve never heard of some of these lions that are found thriving in Sub-Saharan Africa; as well as a small pocket of them located in India!
    10. Barbary Lion

As one of the most aggressive lion species in the world, the Barbary lion was viewed as a magnificent beast of the ancient world. At the height of its power, the Barbary lions spanned across the semi-desert regions of Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia, and Egypt. Unfortunately, excessive trophy hunting led to the extinction of the Barbary lion at the beginning of the 20thc century. In fact, the last known Barbary lion was killed in Morocco in 1920.
Nevertheless, there are some lions living in captivity today that are believed to be the descendants of wild Barbary lions; especially a group of lions currently found in the Rabat Zoo of Morocco.
The Barbary lion also holds the record for being the largest subspecies of lions in the world. Adult males could range anywhere between 9.8 to 10.8 feet in length and weigh a massive 450 pounds. Nature just doesn’t make them this big anymore!
    9. West African Lion

Moving from the North, we head into West Africa where a unique subspecies of the lion is found. This particular beast is known as the West African lion, and it is indigenous to Senegal and some pockets of the Central African Republic. Did you know that the West African lion is the smallest of all the sub-Saharan lions?
Sadly, the population of these lions has been decimated largely due to human encroachment and trophy hunting in the region. It is estimated that they are only 1800 individuals roaming in the wild today, and if something is not done soon enough, these animals might end up extinct.
    8. Southwest African Lion

The Katanga lion is one of the world’s largest lions and is found indigenously in the southwest of Africa primarily in the countries of Zimbabwe, Zambia, Zaire, Angola, Botswana, and Namibia.
The males are particularly large and can measure anywhere between 8.2 feet and 10.2 feet. While the females have a length measuring 7.5 feet to 8.7 feet. The males can weigh anywhere between 350 to 450 lbs and the females can weigh up to 350lbs, which is pretty impressive for the much smaller female. One distinct feature that separates the Katanga lions from other lion subspecies is that they have a light-colored mane compared to other lion subspecies
    7. Masai Lion

The East African lion, or popularly known as the Masai lion, is famous for quite a number of reasons. They are the most docile subspecies of lions and chances are high that the lion found in your local zoo is a Masai lion. These lions are indigenous to countries like Tanzania, Mozambique, Ethiopia, and Kenya. Some of the most definitive characteristics of these lions include having longer legs than their cousins, and less of an arched back, making them the fastest lions around. In the males, these lions can grow tufts of hair around the knee joints, and male Masai lions living in the highlands tend to exhibit much larger and heavier manes than those residing in lowland areas. The average male Masai lion can grow anywhere between 8.2 to 9,8 feet and the females can grow between 7.5 to 8.5 feet.

    6. Transvaal Lion

Did you know that some lions have adapted fully to semi-desert and desert regions? One such lion is the Southeast African lion, or commonly known as the Kalahari lion. These lions are located in South Africa; more specifically Swaziland’s Hlane Royal National Park and South Africa’s Kruger National Park. A majority of the males of these subspecies have a well-developed, black mane that is quite radiant, to say the least.
The male lion can measure between 8.5 to 10.5 feet with the female attaining a length ranging from 7.7 feet to 9 feet.
Male Kalahari lions can way anywhere 320 to 400 lbs with the females weighing anywhere between 250 lbs to 350 lbs

  • 10 Rare Wild Cats More Beautiful Than Lions

There are 38 species of cats on the planet. You’re most likely familiar with the more majestic apex predators like lions, tigers, leopards, jaguars, and cheetahs, or the more commonly found domestic cats, but did you know there are a few rare wild felines that are just as beautiful and probably more unique than all the ‘popular’ members of their family? There are species of cats out there that love swimming, and some can even survive in deserts! Unfortunately, many of these rare species are endangered animals, and you’d only find them in highly selective areas in the world.

If you want to learn more about fascinating wild cats that exist on earth, get ready to be amazed. Let’s begin

    Iberian Lynx

The Iberian lynx is a heavily-spotted wild cat species found in the Iberian Peninsula in southwestern Europe and is considered one of the rarest species of lynx on earth. Unfortunately, though, it’s also the world’s most endangered feline species. The cat weighs around half as much as the Eurasian species, with long legs and a very short tail with a black tip.

You can recognize this cat thanks to the distinct “beard” around its face along with the prominent black ear tufts. The Iberian lynx hunts rabbits, ducks, young deers, and partridges for food. An adult lynx usually needs about one rabbit a day, but a mother raising her young ones may need up to three rabbits every day! Thanks to conservation measures in recent years, its population has inched above 400 despite multiple threats.

    Pampas Cat

The Pampas is an adorable, small wild cat native to South America. However, it appears different from the other South American cats and instead resembles the European Wild Cat more. Its looks also vary depending on the region; in the high Andes, the cat is gray-colored with reddish stripes broken up into spots, resembling the Andes Mountain Cat.

On the other hand, in Argentina, the coat is longer, more of a yellow-brown color with a muted pattern. Their habitat generally includes open grasslands and humid forests, while their diet consists of small mammals, including guinea pigs, penguins, and chickens. They’re also terrestrial and primarily nocturnal. The Pampas Cat is pretty rare; The International Species Information Service lists four worldwide, with three being in the US.

    Unique Lions Around The World!
Every lion is exceptional, but today’s video is about unique lions around the world!
Lions are among our favorite animals, and for sure are for all humankind.
We believe so because lions have been inspiring humanity before we could write or develop sophisticated tools. Thirty thousand years ago, humans drew two cave lions together in a wall inside France's Chauvet cave.
Today, we can watch lions on YouTube, TV, or even in Zoos. Yet, at that time, people must have felt so vulnerable and in awe before the lion’s beauty and hunting prowess.
Sadly, many lion subspecies have disappeared due to intensive hunting, habitat destruction, and prey competition with its fiercest enemy: humanity.
Despite the fact we admire and love this creature, we fear it so much we prefer to destroy it than living in balance with it.
Fortunately, many are waking up and taking action to protect nature. Hopefully, we will have lions as a source of inspiration for many years to come.
Next, we will share with you the most incredible lion subspecies on earth. Come with us and enjoy our journey through America, Asia, and Africa, to watch the king of the jungle in its many forms!
    Number 10: American Lion
At the tenth spot, we have the American Lion, one of the largest, if not the largest lion species ever!
The American lion ruled North American territories. Many believe these lions descended from their African counterparts, which arrived through the Bering Strait before the continental drift occurred. According to the records, the American lion may have been the largest lion species in history. Fossils suggest it measured more than 13 feet in length, at a weight of between 700 and 900 pounds.
It’s hard to demonstrate how it looked, but cave paintings display American lions without a mane.
Apparently, the American Lion disappeared during the mass megafauna extinction in the Quaternary.
    Resource:
    Number 9: Black Lion
At the ninth spot, we found the black lion, a legendary subspecies of the jungle’s king.
The Black lion or cape lion was declared extinct in 1860. This lion species roamed the southwest of South Africa, hence its name.
Human attacks ended the existence of these beautiful but dangerous predators. English invaders hunt them on sight, as lions were commonly assumed to be man-eaters.
We know little about the black lion, except that they weighed between 300 and 500 pounds and were lone hunters. It’s very different from common lion packs.
Despite its extinction, lions in the Kalahari region have a genetic load from the black lion species.
    Resource:
    Number 8: Congo Lion
At the eighth spot, we found the Congo lion, also known as the central African lion.
The Congo lion subspecies live along the African continent’s plains, especially in Uganda and the Republic of the Congo.
The Congo lion measures around 8 feet and weighs between 300 and 400 pounds. Male congo lions have a distinctive dark characteristic mane, less leafy than other lion subspecies. Additionally, Congo lions display a fur color that can range between sand and dark brown.
The International Union for Conservation of Nature declared African lion populations as Vulnerable since 1996.
Sadly, humans kill lions to protect livestock and sometimes in retaliation. However, big predators are essential for natural balance, and water scarcity and weather change dramatically when big predators disappear.
Additionally, humans have depleted their prey base, burned, and destroyed much of Congo lion habitat.
If only we could live in harmony with these beautiful predators!
    Resource:
    Number 7: Masai Lion
The Masai lion or East African lion made it to the seventh spot today.
The Masai lion subspecies lives in eastern Africa. Traditionally, some people relate Nubia to the origin of this subspecies.
The subspecies includes previously recognized subspecies like massaica, which explorers thought were from the Tanganyika Territory in Eastern Africa.
Male East African lions are generally between 8 and 10 feet long, including the tail. Lionesses are usually smaller, between 7.5 and 8.5 feet long. Masai lions, male or female, have a shoulder height of 3 to 3.6 feet.
In terms of weight, males are generally between 320 to 452 pounds. On the other hand, females are between 220 to 364 pounds.
    Male Masai lions are exceptional

  • Hyena Walks Right Into 3 Male Lions

    1:26

Watch the moment an unsuspecting hyena walks right into 3 lions which ends up being the hyena's last mistake it ever makes!
    BOOK YOUR TRIP TO KRUGER:

Marc Cronje, 29-year-old Bird and Nature Field Guide, never expected to see a brown hyena get caught by a lion, right in front of him. Marc conducts birding and wildlife tours for Nature Travel Africa and Nature Travel Birding across the world.
Send in your wildlife video here, and earn money:

He shared this intense sighting with LatestSightings.com after he filmed it in the Grootkolk Wilderness Camp in the Kgalagadi National Park. In his own words, Marc told Latest Sightings about this experience:

“I was on a wildlife holiday with my brother and it was his first time ever visiting the park. We had not been on a drive at all and the sighting happened right in front of us at the camp's waterhole, which was also right in front of our accommodation.”

“We heard lions roaring quite close to our safari tent in the night and saw them outside next to the tents just after midnight, so we knew they were in the area. We got up to get ready for a drive from the camp and then made coffee. I sat down to enjoy the early morning brew when my brother said: “Marc, please tell me that you’ve seen lions?” I stood up from my seat, while he was sitting on the stoep and when I returned I spotted three of the male lions sitting at the base of the bush watching the waterhole, while also keeping an eye on us!”

“It was incredibly exciting to have the males so close, what a view to enjoy a brew by? We watched them for a while and saw a brown hyena approach the waterhole from the opposite directions of where the lions were. Getting to see a brown hyena is already rare in itself, but to see one in daylight was mind-blowing. As a wildlife guide, I thought that the hyena would move off as soon as it saw the lions, but boy was I wrong!”

“The hyena kept approaching the waterhole for a drink, seemingly oblivious to the presence of the lions waiting for it. The lions, in turn, crouched down as they started getting ready to stalk and catch the hyena. With this, I rushed to get my camera, excited to be able to capture what would follow…”

“The hyena just reached the waterhole and spotted the lions, it suddenly turned around and started running away when the lions ran in pursuit, one male running directly towards the hyena. Unfortunately, the hyena could not out-run its fate and was soon brought down by the lion. What made this even more memorable, was the fact that the hyena ran straight towards our tent, and by the time the lion brought it down, they were right in front of us – the only thing that separated us from them, was the 1 meter high, non-electric fence. This was absolutely amazing!”

  • Top Biggest Lions And Most Expensive In The All World,,

    4:48

Top Biggest Lions And Most Expensive In The All World,,(Biggest Lions)
The lion (Panthera leo) is a species in the cat family (Felidae); it is a muscular, deep-chested cat with a short, rounded head, a reduced neck and round ears, and a hairy tuft at the end of its tail. The lion is sexually dimorphic; males are larger than females with a typical weight range of 150 to 250 kg (330 to 550 lb) for the former and 120 to 182 kg (265 to 400 lb) for the latter. Male lions have a prominent mane, which is the most recognisable feature of the species. A lion pride consists of a few adult males, related females and cubs. Groups of female lions typically hunt together, preying mostly on large ungulates. The species is an apex and keystone predator, although they scavenge when opportunities occur. Some lions have been known to hunt humans, although the species typically does not.

Typically, the lion inhabits grasslands and savannas but is absent in dense forests. It is usually more diurnal than other big cats, but when persecuted it adapts to being active at night and at twilight. In the Pleistocene, the lion ranged throughout Eurasia, Africa and the Americas from the Yukon to Peru but today it has been reduced to fragmented populations in Sub-Saharan Africa and one critically endangered population in western India. It has been listed as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List since 1996 because populations in African countries have declined by about 43% since the early 1990s. Lion populations are untenable outside designated protected areas. Although the cause of the decline is not fully understood, habitat loss and conflicts with humans are the greatest causes for concern.

One of the most widely recognised animal symbols in human culture, the lion has been extensively depicted in sculptures and paintings, on national flags, and in contemporary films and literature. Lions have been kept in menageries since the time of the Roman Empire and have been a key species sought for exhibition in zoological gardens across the world since the late 18th century. Cultural depictions of lions were prominent in the Upper Paleolithic period; carvings and paintings from the Lascaux and Chauvet Caves in France have been dated to 17,000 years ago, and depictions have occurred in virtually all ancient and medieval cultures that coincided with the lion's former and current ranges.

  • Giraffe Kicks Lions To Defend Itself

    2:58

In the human world, we can get away with saying “Pick on someone your own size”, but in the animal world, it’s fair game. If a predator can bring it down, no matter the size, they’ll go in for the chase. This is exactly the case when a pride of lions try and take down a huge giraffe.
    BOOK YOUR TRIP TO KRUGER:

Thokozani Phakathi visited the Kruger and sent us his footage of a pride of lions trying to take down a giraffe. He told LatestSightings.com that he never would have thought that he’d see anything like this with his own eyes, until he did!
Send in your wildlife video here, and earn money:

“We were driving south on the H4-2, on our way back from Crocodile Bridge Camp when we spotted a giraffe being held hostage by a pride of approximately 8 lions. We stopped to see how the hunt would play out. They made several attempts to bring down the giraffe, but it was firing kicks from hell!”

“The lions were very cautious and didn’t want to risk injury or death, particularly because they were all females and the fact that lionesses are usually the ones to secure a meal. This makes them a valuable asset to the pride. It seems that part of their strategy was to exhaust the giraffe and finish the business after dark, taking advantage of their good night vision, and probably when the males are back from patrolling duties so they could add their strong muscle and hefty bodies.”

“The lions were taking turns in harassing, scaring and exhausting the giraffe for a few minutes. As each lioness ha her turn, they’d lay down and pant for a while and then start the process all over. This process insured that there was no escape route for the giraffe as they lay in solid walls around it. We could only count up to 8 lions as they were scattered all around and in between the thickets of the bush.”

“Unfortunately, due to gate time, we had to abandon the breath-taking sighting and never saw the final outcome. It was an absolute thrill to witness how lions coordinate and deploy their strategy to intimidate, frustrate and exhaust their potential prey. I’d normally see such events on National Geographic, but I never even had the thought that I would see something like this with my naked eye.”

“It’s memorable sightings like these that make Kruger National Park such a special place and the ultimate safari adventure destination in South Africa!”
