10 Most Terrifying Bridges You Don’t Want To Cross

Ever heard of the word “Gephyrophobia?”. Well, it is the phobia or fear of crossing bridges. Apparently, such a phobia exists as an anxiety disorder. While many people do not think twice about crossing bridges, some others have an incredible fear of doing so.

We have all come across bridges one time or the other. They are those structures that are constructed over obstacles such as a body of water, a road or a valley in order to create a passage over the said obstacle. They are pretty usual and common structures right? Well, think again. Wait till you find out about some absolutely unusual and mind-bending ones.

While bridges are meant to be safe passages, there are certain ones that are simply terrifying and you just would not want to be found crossing them. These bridges are high up, shaky, wobbly and in all petrifying.

So whether or not you suffer form Gephyrophobia, these nerve-racking and hair-raising bridges are enough to test your courage and bring out the Dare devil in you.

Let’s take a look at ten most terrifying bridges you don’t want to be found crossing. And if somehow you ever find yourself in any of these locations on our list; whatever you do, don’t look down!

    #10 – Millau Viaduct, France

When you think about one of the world’s tallest and highest bridges, with a superb architectural design, then think Millau Viaduct. This beauty is located in France and is way taller than the world-renowned Eiffel Tower. Wow, that’s simply some high heights.

Millau Viaduct stands as one of the world’s most impressive landmark creations in engineering. This genius of a bridge spans a whole 2.4 kilometers and stands at 270 meters above the river below, connecting Paris to Montpellier.

This bridge is so unique and high up that a lot of technical difficulties were faced during its construction. Because of its looming danger, about seven pylons were used to support this bridge instead of just two.

The spectacular Millay Viaduct is undoubtedly one of the world’s tallest bridges and one that would scare the wits out of those with the phobia for heights.

    #9 – Kuandinsky Bridge, Russia

Picture walking or driving on a bridge that looks like it is uncompleted, or better still, rotting away, then you don’t have to look so far. The Kuandinsky Bridge fits that description perfectly.

Located in Russia, the Kuandinsky bridge stretches over 570 meters long and 2 meters wide over the Vitim River in the region of Siberia. And there is no doubt that it is definitely one of the most dangerous bridges in the world.

What makes it so peculiarly scary is the fact that this road bridge has no railings whatsoever, so an accidental fall of a vehicle into the frozen river below is very much a possibility. Another perturbing fact is that the construction of this bridge has not been completed, even though its construction has commenced several decades ago.

Apart from the fact that safety of this bridge is not guaranteed, it is also known that no major repairs have ever been done on the bridge. What you get to see on this bridge are rusted metal and rotten wooden planks that are weather beaten over the years and have become degenerated.

So if you don’t want to experience fixing a bridge as you attempt to cross it, or trying to prevent your car from falling off the edge; then you should probably think again before going on this bridge.

#8 – Royal Gorge Bridge, Colorado

Well known as America’s highest suspension bridge which has become a tourist attraction for many thrill-seekers. The Royal Gorge Bridge in Colorado USA stands as one of the scariest bridges ever.

This soaring wonder stands at a sterling 955 feet above the Arkansas River and was the world’s highest bridge until 2001. The bridge is also 384 meters in length. If you are not too scared, you can take time out to enjoy the view of Colorado’s magnificent Royal Gorge nearly 90 stories below the bridge. Another scary feature of this bridge is the occasional and dangerous currents of the Arkansas River below.

This architectural masterpiece took six months to construct and is made of two main cables each weighing 200 tons and 2,100 cables all twisted together. And because the brigade does not have a vertical truss, there is a scary feeling that you get of the bridge shaking and moving.

    SUMMARY:
    - #1. The construction looms 186 ft above the water’s surface, and they say that when the weather is bad, you can't see the shore from the middle of the bridge. All things combined, it creates an eerie feeling of being suspended in some kind of nerve-racking limbo.
    - #2. At 410 ft long, this is the longest curved suspension bridge in the world. The deck of Sky Bridge is 2,170 ft above sea level, among the mountain peaks, and boy, that's a sight to behold!
    - #3. This bridge held the title of the world's highest from 1929, when it was completed, till 2001, when Liuguanghe Bridge in China surpassed it by 19 ft.
    - #4. The tallest bridge in the world seems to be floating over the river Tarn's gorge valley in southern France. The total length of the bridge is 8,070 ft, and its maximum height is a whopping 1,125 ft above the ground!
    - #5. This is one of the longest and oldest teakwood footbridges in the world. Besides, it's probably one of the most photographed as well!
    - #6. The world's longest glass bridge, opened in 2017, hangs over a picturesque canyon in the Hebei province of China. About 1,600 ft long and more than 700 ft high, the bridge is paved with 1,077 glass panels!
    - #7. The walkway isn't particularly long, only 200 ft, but the view that is waiting is breathtaking. Everyone using the pathway has to wear special anti-slip shoe covers.
    - #8. This is the largest rigid-frame bridge in Japan, even though it looks more like a twisted roller coaster for drivers! The structure has incredibly steep inclines on both sides, and at first sight, you may doubt that a regular car is able to climb the bridge.
    - #9. The locals call this construction the drunk bridge. Its length is only 850 ft, but the curve of the bridge that protrudes over the Norwegian Sea plays a funny visual trick on motorists.
-#10. The modern version of the Seven Mile Bridge was completed in 1982, and its construction cost was about $45 million.

Today, let’s visit the most incredible and dangerous roads in the world. They overshadow even the coolest rides and leave people driving on them breathless and terrified.

    TIMESTAMPS
    Guoliang Tunnel, China 0:36
    Maeklong Railway Market, Thailand 1:22
    Yungas Road, Bolivia 1:58
    Eyre Highway, Australia 2:47
The “Nose of the Devil” Railway, Ecuador 3:23
    Pamban Railway Bridge, India 3:57
Karakoram Highway, Pakistan - China 4:35
    Passage de Gois, France 5:12

Road through Skippers Canyon, New Zealand 7:34
The James W. Dalton Highway, Alaska, USA 8:22
“Train to the Clouds”, Argentina 9:21

    SUMMARY
    - The Guoliang Tunnel is an amazing 0,7 mi (1.2 km) long mountain road in China. The story of its creation is unbelievable! Before its construction there had been a very dangerous path with narrow steep stairs which didn’t have any handrails.
    - The sellers take their goods away and fold their tents in seconds, giving way to the train which moves at a speed of about 9 mi/h (15 km/h). This is the reason the market is sometimes called Talat Rom Hoop which means “Market Umbrella Close”.
    - Yungas Road (also called Death Road) connects Bolivian cities of La Paz and Coroico. It descends from the height of 2 miles to 1,181 ft (3,300 to 360 m) above sea level. Despite the fact that the road is very narrow, even trucks manage to pass each other.
    - If you look at this highway, you will surely ask, “So what is so dangerous on this straight road?” Right, this is the longest straight road in the world with the length of about 994 miles (1,600 km)!
    - The “Nose of the Devil” railway is built on the rock which has the same name. It was called this way because people believed that Devil didn’t want a railway to pass through that place - that’s why so many deaths occurred among the people who built the road.
    - Pamban is India’s first sea bridge built in 1914. It connects the mainland part of India with the island which has the same name. In 1964 there was a storm which hit the island. It overturned a passenger train and all 150 people who were inside died.
    - At 807,7 miles (1,300 km) long, Karakoram is considered the world’s most high-altitude international highway. One of its sections passes at the altitude of more than 15,091 ft (4,600 m).
    - This is the road between the island of Noirmoutier and mainland France. This passage seems quite common, doesn’t it? It is, until you get to know that to drive along it, you will need to know the schedule of the tides! In fact, the road is approachable only twice a day - before and right after the low tide.
    - Leh-Manali Highway runs through several high mountain passes. It is located at the altitude of 13,034 to 16,404 ft (4 to 5 km). This road is extremely narrow, covered with dirt and gravel, but this doesn’t prevent local drivers from zooming through at high speeds.
    - This road leads to the top of Tianmen Mountain where a Buddhist temple is situated. It is only 6.8 miles (11 km) long but it can boast 99 bends with the distance between some of the curves less than 656 ft (200 m)!
    - The highway which runs through the dried Solar de Uyuni is located at the altitude of 11,811 ft (3,650 m) above sea level. Local landscapes are so unusual that they can be taken for some extraterrestrial grounds!
    - This road was built in 1880s and it is a true wonder of engineering. The construction took only 5 years and it has remained mostly unchanged since then! This amazing passage has numerous holes, cliffs, steep descents and sharp bends.
    - Only 108,7 miles (175 km) of this 413,8 miles (666 km) highway are covered with bitumen, the rest of the way you have to drive on gravel. Tough weather conditions, winds, unexpected changes from 2 to 4 lanes and back, poor visibility have made this road particularly deadly.
    - If you decide to make a 15-hour train journey, be ready to pass through 21 tunnels, 42 bridges and viaducts, 2 spirals and 2 more zigzags on the 134,8 mi (217 km) road! This railway is one of the highest in the world, its top point (at the end of the line) is situated at the altitude of 13,780 ft (4,200 km).

We rely on engineers to keep us safe while we’re traveling from point A to point B. For centuries, they’ve been constructing magnificent bridges that not only function, but add beauty to the world around them. Nevertheless, that doesn’t mean that these grand and glorious structures aren’t absolutely terrifying! Whether it’s a fear of heights or simply a fear of bridges themselves, many people struggle to cross them. Footbridges often assist hikers and mountain climbers as they navigate mountain peaks. They also help us to quickly cross large bodies of water. But most of all, they provide the most direct route across any rugged and treacherous terrain. In this video, we'll show you some scary bridges, like the rotting Vitim River Bridge in Siberia and the terrifying Hongyagu Glass Bridge in China. They span some of the most intense, unforgiving, and extreme landscapes. Mountains, valleys, lakes, bays, and rivers are all conquered by feats of modern engineering.

  • SCARIEST Bridges On Earth

    10:02

The world's most terrifying bridges! From the ancient paths made of ropes and plants to modern marvels at terrifying heights.

    #11 Da Nang Golden Bridge
Though comfortably secured in a massive pair of stone hands, the Golden Bridge just outside Da Nang, Vietnam, is still a stomach churning path to walk. The 490-foot-bridge is part of the Ba Na Hills resort and acts as an incredibly vibrant overlook. It towers over the Ba Na Hills with an elevation of almost 4,600 feet above sea level. Luckily, the integrity of the structure is safe with the aged appearance of the bridge being added for effect since the Golden Bridge was built in 2018.
    #10 Trift Suspension Bridge
Draping between two peaks within the Swiss Alps is a simple suspension bridge that’s been around for nearly ten years now. The bridge is situated in proximity to the region’s Trift Glacier and surrounding Triftsee lake, a major attraction of the Alps that attracts around twenty thousand tourists annually. Prior to the bridge’s construction, this glacier was used by visitors to access the Trift Hut, a cabin waypoint for hikers and mountaineers under the supervision of the Swiss Alpine Club. But as the glacier has melted, it was no longer at a height capable of traversing and a need for the bridge was born. The first bridge was erected in 2004, but a sturdier replacement would come just five years later and continues to be in service to the day. To reach the bridge, one must take a cable car from Meiringen, then catch a gondola ride. From there, a ninety minute hike will bring you to this narrow, nerve-rattling walkway.
    #9 Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge
Just off the northeastern coast of Northern Island is the small island known as Carrickarede. Locals have been constructing bridges to reach this rock for centuries, and with each new suspended path comes a new upgrade. Originally, the bridges to this island served the simple purpose of granting access to local salmon fishermen who would use the island as an optimal casting point. But as time went on, the salmon of this region would dry up, making the jump from 300 salmon caught per day in the 1960s to 300 caught per season in 2002. Still, the island has remained a popular tourist stop thanks to the natural beauty of Carrickarede. For many decades, the bridge was simply a single handrail with large gaps between the planks, making for a terrifying path at 98 feet above the rocky coast, but it has since been rebuilt multiple times, now with a wire rope and Douglas fir slats. It’s still a fairly scary walk though, especially in inclement weather, and of the hundreds of thousands of visitors, many must be boated off the island when faced with the task of crossing the Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge a second time.

  • The Worlds Most WOW Bridge In Japan

    4:48

If you’ve ever wanted to experience what it’s like to ride a roller coaster sitting in your car, then the Eshima Ohashi Bridge in Japan might be your chance! Even looking at the pictures of this bridge gives us the chills! How do cars climb up the bridge? Why was it built this way?

First things first, this Japanese bridge is not as scary as it seems. Yes, it does look ridiculously steep from a far distance. It seems like cars would just slip and slide right back down.
But in fact, you don’t have to be a hell of a driver to go across this bridge. Thousands of cars cross it every day. It’s all a matter of perspective. If you look at it from a different angle, it looks more like an ordinary bridge with a relatively steep incline, but quite possible to handle. If you watch a video of a person driving over it, you might find yourself a little disappointed.

    TIMESTAMPS

Sidu River Bridge in China 1:44
    Millau Viaduct in France 2:18
    Rolling Bridge in England 2:57
The Gateshead Millenium Bridge in England 3:20
    Ponte Vecchio in Florence 3:43

    SUMMARY
    - China: This is one of the highest bridges in the world right. It was built at an incredible 1509 feet (460 meters) across the Sidu River. Well, if you’re there, don’t look down.
    - The funny thing about this French bridge is that its highest is 62 feet (19 meters) taller than the Eiffel Tower. It connects two large plateaus, so the view from the bridge itself is incredible and, honestly speaking, quite scary especially in foggy weather!
    - What looks like a small wheel in London is a bridge! Every Friday it rolls out and becomes a usual insignificant bridge until it turns into a wheel again!
    - This is the only bridge in the world that tilts! Normally it’s just a pedestrian bridge. But when there is a boat or a ship that needs to pass underneath it the entire thing tilts giving the water transport enough room to squeeze in.
    - Unlike the previous super modern bridges, Ponte Vecchio was built back in the Roman times! Of course, it has been rebuilt and upgraded a few times since then. By the way, Vecchio is Italian for «old», so it definitely lives up to its name!

  • The Most Terrifying Bridges In The World

    3:35

The scariest bridges to cross around the world.
    Subscribe to our channel:

    Description:
mankind’s existence. Before bridges, you had to scale across mountains, and trudge across rivers, or even try to float your way across to reach to the other side. Much of the time, travelers either didn’t survive, had to delay their trip by finding an alternative route, or they turned around and went home. But truth be told, Mother Nature was the first architect of bridges, where a pile of rocks, or a simple log, provided a way across an obstruction. Seeing this, early societies perfected what nature created, and it’s all be uphill from there.
With the innovation of bridges, scaling mountains and crossing large bodies of water is easier than ever. Bridges can be right above ground, or they can be hundreds of feet in the air. However, if you’re afraid of heights, then the higher the bridge, the scarier it is. Heights alone can be ultimately scary, but add that to even just a well-built bridge and you have some major anxiety heading your way. Now, consider the older bridges that aren’t made so well. Imagine walking across a rickety bridge that is placed high in a mountain. You can see the ground below through the planks of wood, the wind moves the bridge back and forth, and you feel the ropes holding everything together pull and suspend and struggle to keep it all together. Just because it’s the 21st century doesn’t mean that all the world’s bridges have been made well, let alone updated with the latest innovations in dealing with physics and gravity.
For example, the Kakum Canopy Walk in Ghana spans across as beautiful national park. But they bridge is really narrow, and the only thing really keeping you from falling into your doom is the netting around the bridge. The Millau Viaduct in France has become a popular place for base jumpers to get their thrills and jollies. The Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge takes tourists around some of Ireland’s most dangerous locations, and most people who cross the bridge once, have to take a helicopter back because they don’t want to go through a second round with the bridge.
The Hussaini Hanging Bridge in Pakistan is one of the more commonly used bridges in the country, as people use it to reach major cities. However, the bridge is missing several wooden planks and hardly looks stable enough to hold even just one person. The bridge honestly looks like it was built in the Middle Ages and hasn’t been updated since.
The Langkawi Sky Bridge in Malaysia is one of the tallest bridges in the world and sweeps and turns through the mountains. It’s large, it has been recently built, and it’s pretty stable. The terrifying thing about it is how high it is, and the fact that you have to use a cable car to reach it in the first place.
To learn more about these terrifying bridges and be introduced to a few more, check out the video and get your anti-anxiety meds ready.

  • SCARIEST Bridges And Roads You Can Travel On

    10:14

Roads and bridges are things that are used to travel more efficiently from place to place. They certainly help when it comes to crossing water or great heights between mountains, although those same traits also make these passages absolutely terrifying. These are the Scariest Bridges And Roads You Can Travel On. We wouldn’t recommend going to any of them. Just trust us.

#8 - Zhangjiajie Glass Walk Bridge
Just a year ago, China opened a breathtaking glass skywalk that had been added to Hunan’s mountainous landscapes. The winding bridge is 1,410 feet long and, as you can see from these frightening photos, it hovers 984 feet above the ground. This would be the very last place in the world you would find us. You’re on your own if you want to go check this scary bridge out.

    #7 - Lake Pontchartrain Causeway
You might be able to guess why the bridge in this picture made it into this video just by looking at it. It’s not particularly high, and it actually only sits 16 feet above the water. The bridge connects the two Louisiana towns of Metairie and Mandeville. It stretches an incredible 24 miles across the lake. If that wasn’t scary enough, once you get about eight miles into the bridge, you no longer have a visual of land.

#6 - Captain William Moore Bridge
Although the bridge in this photo isn’t all that scary to look at, once you find out about the surroundings and the structural integrity of this bridge, you might just change your mind. This bridge is located in Alaska and it crosses over an ACTIVE earthquake fault. The engineers who designed the bridge planned for the potential disaster and only anchored one end of the bridge securely. Now, when the ground trembles and shifts, the bridge won’t just be torn apart. However, we want to know how it’s still safe with only one end secured. How does that work?

    #5 - Millau Viaduct, France
The bridge in this picture gives us the same thrilling fear as riding a roller coaster. The bridge pictured here is the Millau Viaduct located in France. The tallest part of the bridge, from the valley floor to tip of the mast is 1,125 feet tall, which is taller than the Eiffel Tower! It may be less than two miles in length, but this is another path we just aren’t going to bother taking.

    #4 - The Confederation Bridge
This bridge located in Canada made it into this video not because it is incredibly tall and you’re scared of heights, but because it is a long eight miles to the other side. You can see just how long it is in this picture. While that in itself doesn’t seem to shiver worthy, the fact that it is the longest bridge crossing over ice cold water in the world, does. Yes, there are ones that are miles longer, but supposedly not over such freezing waters. This one billion dollar bridge probably won’t just dump you in the water as it crumbles, but that fear factor that it will is still alive and well.

    #3 - Hussaini Hanging Bridge
Hanging bridge is right! Though it should really be called “hanging by a thread bridge,” just look at the mess in this picture, someone come collect their granny, she needs help! This rickety cable and wood bridge is located in Pakistan, and you couldn’t pay us enough to cross it. The bridge crosses over the rapidly flowing Hunza River and the tattered and worn remains of the previous bridges hang right next to the one being currently used. To make this bridge that much more unbearable, it was swallowed up by flood waters in 2010. Although there has been a newer one built, it doesn't seem any safer.

    #2 - Monkey Bridges
If you told us that we would have to walk across the scary skinny bridge pictured here, we would have laughed into next week. There’s just no way. Even though this bridge seems like a joke in a movie, these “monkey” bridges are used as a quick passage in several parts of Vietnam. The name “Monkey” bridge comes from the stooped posture you have to adopt when crossing. Just so you know how crazy this bridge is, it is exactly as it looks in the picture; the bridge is made from a single bamboo log with one or two handrails. If you think crossing this is a good idea, best of luck to you and we’ll see you down at the bottom of the river, since you’re certainly falling in.

    #1 - Eshima Ohashi Bridge
This terrifying bridge wasn’t a nightmare constructed by an architect but if you looked at this picture of the bridge, you would think it was. This mile long bridge spans across Lake Nakaumi and links the city of Matsue to the city of Sakaiminato. The reason for the sudden climb in the bridge is meant to allow entire barges or ships underneath without incident. Although this bridge looks absolutely terrifying at about a 45-degree angle, it is actually not that steep, and a side view of the bridge shows that the highest point is reached with a gradual incline. It’s not at all how it appears.

    11. Kuandinsky Bridge
The Kuandinsky Bridge in Siberia is an old train bridge that crosses over the Vitim River. While the train bridge has been rebuilt, the old structure remains and is part of the Baikal-Amur Mainline Road, a popular attraction for adventure-seekers.

    10. Trift Bridge, Switzerlan
There are many bridges in Switzerland, but easily one of the scariest and most dangerous ones is the Trift Bridge. It might make you feel a bit nauseous! It’s a pedestrian suspension bridge high up in the Alps. It's pretty long, at 170 meters (560 feet) and hangs at 100 meters (330 feet) into the air.

    9. Hussaini Hanging Bridge
Many consider the Hussaini Hanging Bridge in northern Pakistan to be the world’s most dangerous bridge. It runs across the Hunza River and is made of ropes and planks with massive gaps in-between. The bridge is prone to swinging wildly, courtesy of the nearly-constant cold winds from the nearby mountains. So not only is it scary, but also cold! No thanks!!

    8. Chesapeake Bay Bridge
Built in 1952, the William Preston Lane, Jr. Memorial Bridge spans Maryland’s Chesapeake Bay. At 4.3 miles (6.9 km) long, it was once the world’s longest continuous over-water steel structure. It’s 186 feet (57 meters) tall at its highest point and is quite narrow, with low guardrails and no pull-offs.

    7. Austrian Road Bridges
Austrian prisoners of war built the Austrian Road in eastern Kazakhstan from 1915 to 1917, during World War I. Located in the Altai Mountains, it links the country’s Katon-Karagay valley to Lake Markakol, then continues along the Chinese border. The 37-mile-long (60 km) gravel road climbs up several mountain passes at high altitudes of up to 7,011 feet (2,137 meters) above sea level and has 16 wooden bridges that run over the Kara-Koba River.

    6. Deception Pass Bridge
The Deception Pass Bridge is a two-lane structure connecting Whidbey Island and Fidalgo in Deception Pass State Park via Washington State Route 20. It sits 180 feet (55 meters) above the water and is 1,486 feet (453 meters) long.

    5. Lake Pontchartrain Causeway Bridge
The 24-mile-long (38.6 km) Causeway Bridge over Lake Pontchartrain in Louisiana is the world’s longest bridge over continuous water. It was featured on Modern Marvels and is an amazing feat of engineering!

    4. Eshima Ohashi Bridge
Nicknamed the “roller coaster bridge” due to its steepness, the Eshima Ohashi Bridge runs over Lake Nakaumi in Japan, connecting the cities of Matsue and Sakaiminato. Built in 2004, it’s roughly a mile long (1.4 km), with a 6.1 percent gradient on one side and a 5.1 percent gradient on the other. It’s about 144 feet (44 meters) tall, enabling boats to pass underneath.

    3. Duge Beipanjiang Bridge
The 4,400-foot-long (1,341 meters) Duge Beipanjiang Bridge crosses above the Beipanjiang Valley and Beipan River in southwestern China’s Guizhou Province. Since its completion in 2016, it’s held the title for the world’s highest bridge, sitting at 1,854 feet (565 meters) at its highest point.

    2. Mackinac Bridge
Nicknamed “Mighty Mac,” the five-mile-long (8 km) Mackinac Bridge connects Michigan’s Upper and Lower peninsulas. Opened in 1957, it’s the world’s fifth-longest suspension bridge, and the longest in the western hemisphere.

    1. Ai-Petri Bridges
The politically unstable Crimean Peninsula is currently caught in a tug-of-war between Ukraine and Russia. Politics aside, it’s a beautiful region that many travelers have come to appreciate and many others hope to someday visit.

The world’s first bridge was constructed around 1300 bc and is located in Argolis, Greece. Named the Arkadiko Bridge, it was part of a major trade route between Tiryns and Epidauros, but today it sees drastically less traffic as it is largely only used by locals and otherwise ignored by the rest of the world. But ever since man built the Arkadiko Bridge we have continued erecting longer and more dramatic bridges, not only to transport travelers but to flaunt the marvels of modern engineering - nonetheless many modern bridges are absolutely death-defying to cross and that’s why today we are looking at the Top 10 Most DANGEROUS Bridges In The World, let’s get started...

    10. Trift Bridge – Switzerland
    *great pics:
    *Walk over:
The Alpine region of Switzerland, more commonly known as the Swiss Alps is home to one of the world’s most famous mountain ranges. In fact, the region is so infamous that it attracts some 80 million visitors every year, and to keep this massive influx of people entertained there are over 600 resorts and more than 10,000 ski installations. This massive amount of activity also accounts for a very necessary portion of the local economy, in fact, tourism is nearly a 55 billion dollar a year industry in the alps and it provides nearly 12% of all local jobs.
But with elevations reaching 4,634 feet many of the attractions are not for the faint of heart, a crowning example is the Trift Bridge. This simple suspension bridge spans nearly 170 meters, or 560 feet, and dangles at a perilous height of 330 meters, if you are bold enough to cross this structure and foolish enough to look down, you will find yourself with a one of a kind view of lake Triftsee, a relatively new lake that was formed in 2002 by the melting of nearby Trift Glacier. Finally, if you feel the need to cross this hair raising bridge you will first have to get to it - reaching the bridge takes a 10-minute ride in a cable car, which holds about 8 people. After disembarking the cable car, tourists still face a grueling ninety-minute hike to reach the top. Despite the accessibility issues the bridge still attracts a shocking 20,00 crossers annually.

    9.Carrick-A-Rede Rope Bridge, Northern Ireland
This rope bridge in Northern Ireland connects the mainland to the tiny island of Carrickarede. This terrifying bridge spans 20 meters and suspends pedestrians 98 feet above the rocks and water that pass beneath. For over 350 years fishermen have been building bridges across the expanse in the hopes of fishing nearby salmon populations, however, as time went on the salmon populations decreased and the bridge itself became a bustling tourist attraction. Despite the terrifying view down, nearly 500,000 people every year come to test their grit walking across the narrow swaying structure.

    8. Capilano Suspension Bridge, Canada
Built in 1889, the Capilano Suspension Bridge crosses the Capilano River in North Vancouver British Columbia in Canada, at the moment it is located in a private facility where tourists can pay $43.00 dollars to walk across - the site draws over 1.2 million visitors per year. The Capilano isn’t just any bridge though, this massive bridge is 460 feet long and 230 feet off the ground! Shockingly this amazing structure was first built in 1889 by George Grant Mackay using hemp ropes and cedar planks, but in 1903 it was reinforced with wire cables and has experienced very few upgrades since then.

    7. Vitim River Bridge, Russia
The Baikal–Amur Mainline or BAM Road is considered one of the toughest extreme routes in the world - it runs along the Trans Siberian Railway and thrill-seekers from around the world test their limits by traversing the 3,140-kilometer trail every year. This daring route crosses what many consider to be Russia’s least traversable terrain, a jarring path through northern Siberia. Among the many obstacles along the BAM Road is a bridge known as the Vitim River Bridge. The Vitim River Bridge is the same width as a car and made from old deteriorated railway wood, a skilled driver can cross it in 3 minutes but what they face during those 180 seconds is enough to haunt them for a lifetime.

  • Worlds Most Dangerous Roads - Philippines

    51:12

The headhunters road Kalinga in filipino is aptly named even if the region's heads haven't been rolling for a long time. It said the spirits of the mountains still have a taste for them when it comes to cutting the road.
Christopher and his men face the same struggle against the mountain every day. Their job is to remove the thousands of cubic meters of rocks blocking the road in record time.
Further down the valley lies the town of Bontoc. It is neither Airport nor railway station, so the road is vital for its 15,000 inhabitants. If the Kalinga is blocked, the entire region is paralyzed and even the bone snake charms are powerless.
Bus 532 with 20 years of service is about to leave for one of the most dangerous roads in the Philippines: the Kalinga on the island of Luzon. It relays Bontoc to the regional capital of Tabuk to the north through the Cordillera mountains. A Tough road under construction for nearly a century, but which still resembles a track. It takes almost a day if all goes well to travel.

  • Japans Most Terrifying Bridge: Eshima Ohashi

    11:07

It's been nicknamed the ROLLER COASTER BRIDGE because of it's super steep slope and appearance of being a bridge to the sky.
That's the Eshima Ohashi Bridge straddling Shimane and Tottori prefecture in Japan.

    Facts about the Eshima Ohashi:
    ★ 1,446 meters long
★ 250 meters of continupus concrete in the center (the third longest Ramen bridge in the world!)
★ 6.1% grade slope on the Shimane Prefecture side
★ 5.1% grade on the Tottori side
★ The bridge needed to be high in the center to allow large shops to pass under.
☆ From the Shimane side, you can get the optical illusion view at the end of the street by the sea.
☆ If you have a good telephoto lens, go even further to the other side of the sea for a better shot. (Map below)

The bridge has a good pedestrian footpath on both sides of the road.
Bicycles are not allowed on the footpath so stay on the main road with the car, to the left side.
There is an observation point on the top that offers sweeping views all the way to Daisen (mountain).

The closest major access point is Yonago Station and airport on the Sea of Japan. From there, take a train to Sakaiminato and rent a bicycle or grab a taxi.
Sakaiminato is also famous for Japanese anime and the main street is like a museum of monsters!

The bridge is a 20 minute ride from Sakai Minato.
Take food with you from the station.

Over many generations humans have improved the way they travel around the globe. We have planes, we have trains and, of course, we have automobiles. We’ve even developed pretty decent space travel - but we figure we’ll keep things firmly on the ground in this instance. All of the modes of land travel we use rely heavily on roads and pathways. Naturally, when you reach a river, canyon or steep cliff the roadway keeps going thanks to bridges. Yes, bridges come in many shapes and sizes and we use them to make sure our various routes remain uninterrupted. Over the decades humans have been able to build some really impressive and awe-inspiring structures. Of course, being human, we’ve also built some bridges that look like they should be used in a horror movie - or as a challenging level in a video game. Come with us while we travel the world and show you 10 bridges most people would not want to cross. In fact, all of these bridges come with a level of danger thanks to rickety construction, the forces of nature or just plain disrepair.

  • They risk their lives - One of the worlds most dangerous ways to school - Bolivia

    48:01

The Yungas Valley in Bolivia: a unique landscape, where the Andes Mountains meet the Amazon Rain Forest. In this remote section of one of the poorest countries in South America, children have a very long and incredible dangerous walk to school ahead of them. All for one goal: education – for a better life.

Seven-year-old Elmer wants to become an engineer and to build his own house, far away from the remote village. But his only way to school leads over a ravine more than 650 feet deep and about 1000 feet long: a kind of homemade zip-line. He has to entrust his live on a rusty iron pulley and a worn plastic bag.

On the other side of the valley, on the summit of the mountain range, is where the sisters Helen and Mariela live. Isolated, and in the heart of the jungle. Of all the children who attend the school, the sisters live furthest away. Fear, hunger, and exhaustion are their constant companions. For them, education the key to a new, better world. And that’s why they run great risks every day in pursuit of it.

All this is more than just a walk to school – It is a test in the vast jungle. Throughout this journey they all have only one goal in mind: to ultimately find a job in a city and lead a better life.

10 Most DANGEROUS Ocean Creatures In the World
Oceans host a thriving ecosystem that has forever mesmerized us. And much of it remains unexplored.
But still, we have a wealth of information about some of the animals that thrive in the depths of the world’s oceans. We know about the super friendly dolphins that wouldn’t mind goofing around with us. We also know of other marine life that is just too lethal to mess with.
From excruciating pain to delivering potent venom, these creatures have built an air of dread around them.
In today’s video, we bring you 10 of these oceanic bad guys.
    #10 Lionfish
Lionfish are endemic to the Indo-Pacific where they feast on smaller fish and other smaller marine life. And they’re quite a colorful lot spotting white, red, black or creamy bands. According to scientists, these are all warnings against any would-be predator that attacking a lionfish is not the best of ideas.
    And rightfully so.
This fish species is known for its venomous spiky fin ray that is the go-to apparatus for defense. The venom released isn’t always fatal to humans but has been found to cause a wide array of effects.
They include extreme pain that can last up to several weeks, sweating, breathing difficulties, vomiting, and convulsions. For a larger part, that’s about it.
But occasionally, the venom can have more devastating effects such as heart failure, paralysis, and even death. Such extreme effects are common in children, the elderly, those who are allergic to the venom, and those with a compromised immune system.
Despite all that though, lionfish are a worthwhile delicacy with the correct preparation.
    #9 Sea Snakes
Sea snakes, as the name suggests, are well-adapted to life in the oceans. In fact, a vast majority are completely aquatic except the sea kraits that venture on land occasionally.
But unlike fish, they don't have gills. Therefore, they have to surface every once in a while for the much-needed shot of air. As of now, at least 69 species of sea snakes are known and they live in the western Pacific Ocean and the warm tropical waters of the Indian Ocean.
They’re known to be a venomous lot, just like a good deal of their terrestrial counterparts so maybe encountering them in their natural habitat is potentially dangerous.
But the good news is that sea snakes aren’t always looking to bite. However, that doesn’t mean they’re exactly harmless reptiles.
Remember there are over 60 different species which means there is bound to be a lot of variation in the temperament. There are a few that are more likely to strike at the slightest provocation. The most worrisome thing about sea snake bites is that the venom-injecting bites are usually painless.
But symptoms set in later and will include sweating, thirst, vomiting, and paralysis. Fatality will occur especially when the respiratory muscles are paralyzed.
    #8 Blue-ringed Octopus
Blue-ringed octopuses hang out in coral reefs and tide pools in the Indian and Pacific Oceans between Japan and Australia. Their name is derived from the blue and black rings that dot their yellowish skin.
They’re pretty small in size and hardly aggressive creatures. But messing with them is the last thing you’d want to do. And messing with in this case means touching them.
When threatened, they prefer to take off but they’ll revert to a different strategy when the threat persists.
They’ll put on a display with their skin turning a bright yellow and each of the rings flashing a bright iridescent blue. Now that’s not an invitation to play. It’s a warning to back off.
If you disregard and move in to touch the octopus, it will, of course, bite you. It’s a small and painless bite but one that sets off a chain of fatal events.
Through it, the blue-ringed octopus injects one of the most lethal venoms that is enough; get this, to kill up to 26 adult humans within a matter of minutes. And worst of all is that there is no antidote for the venom.
The venom causes total body paralysis where even though you’re fully aware of your surroundings, you can neither move nor do anything.
    #7 Great White Shark
Great white sharks are right on top of the food chain in ecosystems where they frequent – and that’s pretty much in every ocean on the globe. But narrowing down, these marine apex predators prefer waters with temperature ranges of between 12 and 24 degrees Celsius. So they’re found in abundance in the Mediterranean, South Africa, Japan, and the United States.
While most animals in this video create an air of terror around them due to either poison or venom, the great white shark depends on its size to intimidate and subdue prey or perceived threat.

  • Most Dangerous Ways To School | NEPAL | Free Documentary

    48:16

Those who attend school in the mountain village of Kumpur, walk across the mountains of the highest situated country on earth. Nearly half of Nepals lies more than 4 000 Meters above sea level. Today it's normal that the kids go to school in the valley, but just 50 years ago the village was completely self sufficient. Only if there was a lack of salt would someone twice a year hard off to refill the stock. Today the children go to the city almost on a daily basis and are immediately forced to cross the dangerous river. A village in distress is left behind. The village community Kumpur is spread across 18 farms on the Dhap Mountain. Their families live in a very remote area.

These families have lived on their land now for thousands of years herding their life-sustaining cattle without electricity, running water or contact to the outside world. Although they constantly ask themselves if the promise of an education justifies the danger of the path involved, they send their children day after day to school.

Subscribe for more amazing videos! ► ◄

Bridges are a literal connection between worlds, countries, and roads. Without bridges, we would find ourselves stuck in one area, unable to move on to new adventures. Even before the invention of roads, ancient man was creating simple bridges. This must mean that it’s our natural instinct to not want to stay in one place. If we weren't able to move around, we would never have been able to accomplish all of the incredible feats that mankind has accomplished so far. However, not all bridges are created equal. There are several historic bridges that are still up and being used today. But keep in mind that they were created before we had building codes and regulations, so they're not exactly the safest. Even modern bridges can be unsafe! Don’t believe us? Check out this video and see which bridges you should stay away from like your life depends on it—because it does.

  • 10 Most TERRIFYING Bridges In The World!

10 Most TERRIFYING Bridges In The World!

Fair warning, the bridges you are going to see here are down-right terrifying.
You are not going to want to look down when making your way across these vertigo- inducing bridges. Some of the bridges will cause gephyrophobia just by looking at them. Gephyrophobia is the irrational fear of bridges. Apparently, that’s a thing!
Some bridges will sway as you cross, others have massive gaps wide enough for a person to fall through, and others have steep slopes after impossible engineering that will make you wonder just how some of these bridges were built.
These are the world’s most terrifying bridges.
Also, be sure to stay to the end of the video to find out why this bridge in Russia is famous for all the wrong reasons.

    #1: Sochi Skybridge, Russia
The magnificent Sochi Skybridge is said to be one of the longest pedestrian suspension bridges in the world. Located North-East of the 2014 Winter Olympics host city, this 439-meter-long footbridge in the sky dares to challenge the limits of wild adventure lovers.
The bridge itself is built in the middle of an AJ Hackett operated sky park, making it a thrill sports attraction that is sure to deliver the perfect adrenaline rush to get your pulse racing.
Two observation pods within the bridge offer the most panoramic views of the Akhshtyr Gorge, the Mzymta River Valley, and the Black sea coast. These are sights that are sure to take your breath away.
But first, are you ready to brave a chilling walk, 207 meters off the ground?
Although AJ Hackett assures visitors that the bridge is built to withstand a magnitude-9 earthquake, rain, snow, ice, and hurricane winds, walking across the seemingly unending span, looking down at the Krasnaya Polyana valley, is frightening, to say the least.
If you don’t have the courage to walk across, you can always strap up and take the zip-wire ride on the MegaTroll, which will take you at 120km/h top speed!
I’d also suggest bungee jumping if you make it.

#2: Titlis Cliff Walk Bridge, Switzerland
This is a one-million-dollar suspension bridge set alongside the tallest mountain located in the Swiss Alps, making it Europe’s highest suspension bridge, 3,048 meters above sea level.
This incredible bridge has a 100-meter span with a mere meter in width. The bridge design itself is quite imposing and it is said to offer spectacular views to visitors who make it to the Titlis Cliff Walk.
What makes this bridge terrifying is that it hangs a whopping 500 meters above a glacier -don’t look down if you’re scared of heights.
Another thing that will probably keep your nerves constantly on edge is the fact that the bridge is entirely supported by the steel cables from which it hangs.
Although the Titlis Engelberg officials assure visitors that the bridge is completely safe, they do recognize, however, that you’ll need strong nerves to cross their bridge.

#3: Hanging Bridge of Ghasa, Nepal
At first glance, this suspended bridge looks like the scariest passage on this list. Well, you’re right to be scared.
Not only is it laid at a frightening height of 343 meters above the Kali Gandaki river valley just outside the town of Ghasa, but it is also very narrow and looks quite fragile. And if that doesn’t terrify you enough, the recurrent gusts of wind that keeps shaking the bridge will undoubtedly scare you stiff.
But who uses this extremely unstable-looking bridge anyway?
Apparently, this bridge is an essential crossing for local herders and farmers. It is actively used to ferry not just people but also herds of farm animals.
In fact, the bridge was built for this particular reason.
Before the bridge was constructed, herds of cattle would congest the villages and narrow mountain roads, making traffic flow almost impossible. This bridge became the alternative route for the local shepherds and their animals to access the neighboring villages.
And, yes, the bridge is completely safe to cross. It is equipped with high railings and really tough steel wire ropes, which are structurally reliable.
Even so, that doesn’t take away the fear factor entirely since not all travelers find the courage to cross this bridge. Herders have put blinders on their animals so they don’t get nervous while on the deck.
    #4: Previous I-35W Bridge, USA
Some bridges may look strong and completely safe to drive over, but they are, in fact, a horror story waiting to happen. The collapsed I-35W Mississippi River Bridge was one such bridge.
Officially known as the Bridge 9340, this eight-lane bridge crossing over the Saint Anthony Falls of the Mississippi River was opened in 1967 and expected to last fifty years.
