  • The Takeoff of Worlds Largest Aircraft That Will Blow Your Mind!

Aviation has come a long way since 1903, when the Wright Brothers' Flyer-1 aircraft first took to the skies. Flying machines have set incredible records one after the other. The first flight stayed up for just 12 seconds and flew 120 feet. But this was a true revolution!

Today’s aircrafts have by far higher performance. For example, the Bombardier Global 7500 has a range of 7,700 nautical miles, while the Lockheed SR-71A can reach speeds of 2,193 miles per hour. But we have an aviation record holder. It has broken about 240 staggering world records!
This air titan doesn't take off, rather it pushes the ground away. It's not an airplane, but the Dream!

  • 15 Bizarre Experimental Aircraft

From the Lockheed Martin X-56 to the amazing Flaming Pencil, here are 15 Bizarre Experimental Aircraft.

Subscribe to Knowledge Feed for awesome mysteries, discoveries, fun topics and all around AWESOME videos !

    8. Lockheed Martin X-56
Designed to explore high altitude long endurance flight technologies the Lockheed Martin is an unmanned vehicle that first took to the skies in July of 2013. Two were built, and the crafts are small, just seven and a half feet long with a 27 and a half foot wingspan. They last made news in November 2015 when the Air Force announced that one crashed during a flight at Edwards Air Force Base in California.

    7. Junkers Ju 390
Built by the Germans during World War Two it's a good thing these long range bombers never got the chance to show their full capabilities. The Junkers Ju 390 was shown to Hitler on November 26, 1943, at Insterburg, East Prussia just a month after performing beautifully in its maiden flight. Two prototypes were built, and the Air Ministry ordered 26 additional models to be constructed. The Germans began to lose the war, and these plans were scrapped by late 1944. The original prototype was destroyed as the Allies approached at the end of April 1945.

    6. Stipa-Caproni
You’ve never seen an airplane quite like this before. Distinguished Italian aircraft designer Luigi Stipa built the Caproni in 1932. It's hollow, barrel-shaped fuselage completely enclosed its engine and propeller, giving the plane its unique look. Only one original was ever built as the Italian Air Force showed no desires in pursuing further development of the craft. Interest must have persisted in the Caproni however as a ⅗ replica was constructed in Australia in 1998 that was accurate down to the paint scheme. It flew two successful test flights in 2001 and is on display today.

    5. Bell X-22
Of all of the experimental planes built for the Navy the Bell X-22, which was unveiled in Niagara Falls in 1965 was one of the most fascinating. The odd looking craft could take off vertically from a total stand still. Unfortunately, its propellers failed during a test flight, and the first prototype crashed in August of 1966. Technicians salvaged the plane to build a second prototype which would first fly, with improved performance, in August of 1967. Though the X-22 was deemed a success and the best of its kind the Navy canceled its program and the surviving prototype would be relegated to test flights, the last of which occurred in 1988.

    4. Rockwell HiMAT
This remarkable looking craft was built to explore technologies for future fighter aircraft. NASA developed two models in the late 70’s, and the first flights took place in 1979. Its design team decided to make the craft remotely operated for several reasons. Firstly it would be safer to not have a pilot in the craft. It was also cheaper to build it this way and meant they didn’t have to fit it with an ejection seat. Testing of the experimented aircraft concluded in 1983, and the two that were built remain on display to this day.

    3. Vertol VZ-2
Only one of these bulky, odd looking crafts were ever constructed. The United States built the Vertol VZ-2 in 1957 and, like the Bell X-22, it was made to take off and land vertically. The plane was part of a test program that came to an end in 1965, by which time it had amassed 450 flights. Due to its one of a kind status the Vertol VZ-2 was preserved by the National Air and Space Museum.

    2. NASA M2-F1
One of the weirdest things you’ll ever see in flight, the M2-F1 was developed by NASA in 1962 to test the wingless lifting body concept. The vehicle was had no means of powering itself so initial testing took place by towing the craft across California’s Rogers Dry Lakebed behind a specially modified Pontiac Catalina convertible. After this, it was towed in midair for further tests by another NASA aircraft, the C-47. The M2-F1 was retired in 1966 and remains on display at Edwards Air Force Base.

    1. Flaming Pencil
Seeing as how this aircraft was built to research supersonic speeds it's easy to understand how it got its nickname. The speed of sound had been broken in 1948, but no one fully understood the effects that this great speed would have on a moving craft so the Royal Air Force began building what would become the Bristol 188, or Flaming Pencil in 1954. It would take eight years, but the plane finally achieved flight on April 14, 1962. It would record 51 total flights and in this time would manage a top speed of 1,440 miles per hour at an altitude of 36,000 feet.

  • 4 Times Huge Airplanes Landed On Water Successfully

There’s no such thing as a safe emergency airplane landing, especially if it has to land on water. But some gifted pilots can do wonders with their metal-winged birds, even if those birds are huge airliners with lots of people on board! Here, I’ll tell you about 4 times airplanes landed on the water without any major injuries to the passengers.
Landing a plane on water has its own special term now. It’s called ditching, and this task is one of the hardest for pilots. Period. Mainly because it’s almost impossible to train pilots to deal with this situation. Especially if we’re talking about 1956, when there were no training simulations available.

    Boeing 377 Stratocruiser 1:17
The Pan Am Flight 6 1:40
    The Tupolev Tu-124 4:12
Airbus A320 of US Airways (Miracle of the Hudson) 6:56

    - Boeing 377 Stratocruiser, a huge liner with 4 engines – one of the first airplanes with a pressurized cabin and double-deck feature! With this double-deck, it could take up to 100 passengers on board. But on this day, October 16, 1956, there were only 24 passengers and 7 members of the aircrew on the plane.
    - The Pan Am Flight 6 was supposed to be an around-the-world flight with several stops along the way. This was its last take-off from Honolulu before arriving at the destination point in San Francisco. Unfortunately, at the half-way point, when the plane was climbing in altitude, one of the Boeing’s engines violated its speed limit and stopped. Slowly but surely, the plane started to get closer to the sea, unable to keep the altitude. It didn’t help that another engine, engine number 4, also started to malfunction. But still, pilots managed to distribute the workload to the three remaining engines and keep an altitude of 5,000 ft.
    - In the summer of 1963. The Tupolev Tu-124 airplane with 52 people on board was circling around in the skies above Saint Petersburg, Russia, trying to find a way to ditch on the Neva River.
Problems with this flight began immediately after the plane took off in Tallinn. The front gear of the plane wasn’t able to retract, but the Tupolev couldn’t turn back to Tallinn – the weather was too foggy for that. As the flight was supposed to end in Moscow, the closest place to land safely along the way was in Saint Petersburg.
    - And, the record holder for the number of people on board a ditching plane – Airbus A320 of US Airways, Flight 1549. Also known as the “Miracle of the Hudson” Flight. It happened 10 years ago, on January 15.
The cause of this would-be catastrophic event was nothing more than a flock of geese which struck the engines. But thanks to the mastery of the Airbus’ pilots, and ingenuity of its construction, the 155 people on board remained uninjured.

In 2015, designer and aviation enthusiast Oscar Vinals released his conceptual design for the AWWA-QG Progress Eagle, a zero-emission, tri-level aircraft that would hold as many as 800 passengers. The plane will be powered by six hydrogen engines. The eco-friendly contraption’s rear engine would also function as a wind turbine, and its roof and wings would contain solar panels.

    1. Link & Fly
In 2018, the Paris-based global engineering and research and development firm AKKA Group presented a prototype of its “Link & Fly” aircraft at the Paris Air Show. The “Link & Fly” concept surpasses the idea of an aerial taxi and instead takes air travel to the next level. It’s a subway in the sky!

  • Future Aircraft That We Might Fly On - Concept Planes From Airbus, Boeing And More!

These planes may never be built - but they are some of the most creative new aircraft designs we have seen from Boeing, Airbus, and More. What are they, and what would they be like in reality? Let's put on our thinking caps and jump in.

First on our list is the flying V, a project under development at the Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands in partnership with KLM and Airbus. At first, you might think this is yet another blended wing design, like we have seen from both Boeing and Airbus, but without the middle of the plane. This design choice will save around 20% more fuel burn then the nearest other fuel-efficient planes.

This concept aircraft flies passengers inside the wings, as opposed to the wings becoming part of the plane. It has a capacity for 314 passengers seated across business and first class. There are effectively two passenger cabins, one down each leg of the V shape. Each cabin is 6.1-metre-wide (20 feet), that can have economy passengers in a twin-aisle 10-seat across configuration

So far a scale mock-up of the plane has been tested reaching up to speeds of 80 km per hour. While the flying is more stable than expected, the landing poses some problems as the attack angle needs to be so high like the concord, with extra-long front landing gear.

Speaking of insane Airbus projects, we have the Bird Of Prey concept plane that uses biomimicry technology to bring birds' advantages to modern aviation design.

The propeller plane has four turboprops to power the aircraft for regional routes, and each 'feather' can be individually modified to change the aerodynamics while in flight - much like a hawk. And just like birds, it doesn't have a traditional vertical tail

The regional aircraft would carry as many as 80 passengers up to 1,500 kilometers (930 miles) and burn 30% to 50% less fuel than today’s equivalent planes.

An honorable mention is also the Otto Aviation Celera 500L bullet plane that has 8 times less fuel burn than any other jet aircraft - even flying just as fast as a modern plane.

Sitting only six passengers, this plane can travel at 460mph for more than 4000 nautical miles (7200 km), and costs just $328 per hour to run.

So far it has flown 31 successful test flights with aerodynamic efficiency proven in 2019, bolstering its declaration that the Celera 500L is the most fuel-efficient, commercially viable aircraft in existence.

Otto Aviation has completed its first funding rounds and those successful test flights, but they still need to begin the FAA certification process, find a location for a manufacturing facility and create an initial order book.

Next up we have the Embraer Pulse aircraft, an exudative jet that looks more like Batman owns it than Bruce Wayne. The electric aircraft concept has an interchangeable remote control pod that offers near-360-degree visibility thanks to its use of transparent aluminum alloys and has interactive panels that allow text and other smartphone-like connectivity, and post-flight information.

Upon landing, the pod can be transferred to an autonomous ground car to continue in urban environments, while the flying frame returns with another.

There is also Eviation’s Alice, an 9 seater aircraft designed for short-haul hops powered by three electric engines that has been dubbed the Tesla of the sky.

The plane has a range of 1,000 km (620 mi, 540 nmi) + 45min reserve, making it perfect for smaller areas suited for short flights (such as remote islands) and executive transport. There will be a charge point for the plane to recharge at each destination at 30 minutes per hour of flight time.

At a price of $3 million USD, it costs $200 per hour to operate, which compares to $600–1,000 per hour for existing aircraft of a similar purchase price. Perfect for a weekend getaway. So far the firm has confirmed 150 orders, but another $500 million in funding is needed to get the aircraft in full production. Its first test flight was scheduled for this year.

Airbus is also working on a blended wing concept called the Maverick. So far only a scale model has flown to prove the design in flight. However the demonstrator’s potential to deliver real environmental performance benefits is of significant interest: approximately 20% less fuel burn compared to current single-aisle models with the same engine.

The spacious configuration also opens up the design space, enabling the possible integration of various other types of propulsion systems. . A blended wing body design provides an exceptionally comfortable cabin layout, enabling passengers to benefit from additional legroom and larger aisles for more personal comfort.

Boeing is also working on a Truss-Braced Wing Aircraft called SUGAR Volt with NASA.

The future of flight may be bold and even terrifying, but it's for sure exciting, and likely we will see many of these innovations filter down to future aircraft design in subtle ways.

  • 15 World’s Largest Aircraft

    8. Tupolev Maxim Gorky
The Soviets built this, the largest aircraft of the 1930’s for Stalinist propaganda purposes. Two were built and equipped with a powerful radio set, printing machinery, a photo lab, and a film projector. They were also the first aircraft to come equipped with a ladder that would fold into itself to become part of the floor. During a demonstration over Moscow, a Maksim Gorki crashed into another aircraft. The wreck fell onto a residential neighborhood resulting in a total of 35 fatalities. A replacement, the ANT-20bis was built but, as fate would have it that too crashed. According to that story, the pilot allowed a passenger to take over for a minute, during which time that passenger would accidentally disengage the autopilot, immediately sending the airplane into a nosedive from which it wouldn’t recover. All 36 on board would perish.

    7. Boeing 747
For 37 years the original Boeing 747 held the record for passenger capacity. First flown in 1970 there have been over 1,500 Boeing 747’s built. It’s one of the most recognizable aircraft thanks to it's unique hump along the front part of its fuselage. Up to January 2017, Boeing 747’s had been involved in sixty accidents in which the hull was damaged beyond repair. These accidents resulted in a total of 3,722 fatalities.

    6. The Dreamlifter
Boeing didn’t design this plane to look sleek, quite frankly it looks bulky and awkward, but it also has the largest cargo hold at 1,840 cubic meters in the world, which, of course was the main goal behind it's design. It’s drawn comparison to an Oscar Mayer Wienermobile and the Hughes H-4 Hercules.

    5. Boeing 747-8
The third generation of the original 747, this wide body airliner is the longest passenger aircraft in the world. It’s wingspan is equally as massive at 225 feet. A total of 114 have been built and they are mostly used by the large German airline Lufthansa (loof thansa).

    4. Airbus A380
Airports at which the Airbus A380 operates were forced to make some expansions, because they were dealing with the largest passenger airliner ever built. These beasts of the sky have nearly six thousand square feet of usable floor space, by far the largest of any airliner, and a wingspan of 262 feet and as of late June 2017 a total of 213 have been built. The A380 was built by European aerospace company Airbus, which has also built the A340 a smaller long range, wide body commercial jet airliner with a 198 foot wingspan.

    3. Antonov (antonof) 225
The Soviet Union built the Antonov An-225 to transport their Buran space shuttle in the 1980’s. Only one was finished, and after it was done with it's mission it sat for years until being refurbished. Today it's in commercial operation carrying giant payloads for Antonov Airlines and has several records for transporting the largest payloads. It mostly sits unused in a giant hangar, because typical operations don’t call for an aircraft with a 290 foot wingspan. It’s available to use at a cost of thirty thousand dollars per hour. Until the recent unveiling of our number one spot, the Antonov An-225 was the world’s largest and most powerful aircraft in existence. The An-225 design is based on the An-124 Ruslan, which with a 226 foot wingspan remains the biggest military transport craft on the planet. Before either of those planes Antonov designed the An-22 and unveiled it at the 1965 Paris Air Show. With a 211 foot wingspan the An-22 is also an offroad warrior by being able to operate at airports with unpaved runways.

    2. H-4 Spruce Goose
Howard Hughes and his aircraft company built this prototype flying boat in the early 1940’s to be used in World War Two. They didn’t finish it in time and it would only have one brief flight a few years after the war's conclusion in 1947. Remarkably, even though it last flew a full seven decades ago it remains the aircraft with the largest wingspan at 320 feet to have ever achieved flight. Of course there’s a recently built behemoth waiting to break that record that we’ll get to here in a little bit.

    1. Stratolaunch
It's hard to believe the proportions of Stratolaunch, which was unveiled in California’s Mojave Desert just a few months ago. Designed to unload giant rockets that will carry satellites into outer space the craft has a 385 foot wingspan. Let’s take a minute to think about that because it’s ridiculous. A standard professional football field is 360 feet long 25 feet short of the Stratolaunch wingspan. It stands on 28 wheels five stories high and can carry half a million pounds of payload. It's able to achieve such capabilities thanks to six massive engines that are also used by the Boeing 747. Plans are to have a launch demonstration of the Stratolaunch by 2019.

10 most incredible airplanes in the world

Airplanes are one of the most common methods of transport now. They come in a variety of appearances, sizes and wing design and according to aviation enthusiasts, everyone has different preferences when it comes to airplanes. What one aviation enthusiast might find beautiful, may seem ugly to another. So here we pick out our top 10 most incredible and beautiful airplanes in the world in aspects of them being considered to be timeless in their looks, paragons of grace in flight despite their commercial success, war-fighting records and public reviews.
    NUMBER 1- Supermarine Spitfire
Picking up our most beautiful airplane of all time is the Supermarine Spitfire, easily being one of the most well-known aircraft in the history of British Empire. There is a small pun that an Englishman may not know an Airbus from the Brighton bus but however will definitely recognize a Spitfire. Basically, the Spitfire is a British single seat fighter aircraft designed by Reginald Mitchel for the use of the Royal Air Force. The previous versions of the Spitfire, before the bubble canopy was added, had a simple and spare fuselage. The trademark of Spitfire was its wings. The Spitfire claimed to achieve better aerodynamics due to the curved shape along both its leading and trailing edges. The spectacular design allowed the cord length of the airfoil to improve vastly thus making the wing at the same time fatter. As a result, more space was created for the retracted landing gear as well as for a wide range of guns and cannons. If you are looking for a flying-conditioned Spitfire it is going to be worth up to £1-2m compared with £20-50,000 two decades ago.
    NUMBER 2- Lockheed Constellation
In the late 1930’s air travel was at an all-time high. However, passenger aircraft of the period were limited in the number of passengers they could carry and the distance they could cover. So, Howard Hughes with his confidence in the Lockheed company, went to them and worked with their designer to create a four engine pressurized aircraft capable of carrying forty to sixty passengers between Los Angeles and New York in a time-span of eight to nine hours non-stop. This meant that the plane would have to travel at 300mph, faster than some fighter aircraft of that period. When the plans and ideas were put together the Lockheed Constellation was born, later affectionately known as the Connie it became one of the most classic looking aircraft of all time. With four huge 2,200 horsepower wright cyclone engines, the Connie featured large slow turning Hamilton propellers. The large propellers led to a very large landing gear. The most recognizable trait of the Constellation was its triple tail configuration. The first Constellation went to the military during World War II. On February 15th 1946 the first passenger service of the Constellation star of California took place. Out of the 856 produced Constellations manufactured, only a few are left flying today.
    NUMBER 3- F-22 Raptor
The F-22 Raptor became one of the most crucial tactical fighter aircraft for the American Air Force between 2005 and 2011, with 187 units brought into operations and used for carrying out missions in various parts of the world. Designed by Lockheed Martin Aeronautics, it perfectly combined speed, stealth and mobility to become one of the most effective military aircraft in the world. It is considered that each F-22 cost around a staggering 150million dollars. Crazy right? At a speed of around Mach 1.5 at altitudes of 50,000 feet, it is designed to engage in tactical plans. Having the passive radar detection system also reduces its chances of being seen by the enemy. A variety of bombs can be carried within its 3 weapon bays and thus gave the American Air Force a significant aerial advantage for sure.
NUMBER 4- North American F-86 Sabre
For this point we talk about one of the best and most beautiful first- generation jet fighters in the world, the North American F-86 Sabre. The data that was collected during World War II experiments on the advantages of wing sweep for high-speed flight was used by North American to redesign the F-86 and make it into a powerful fighter aircraft with a jet engine, clean and tapered wings, comfort-designed cockpit with spectacular visibility and powered controls. During the Korean War, the F-86 Sabre was the first swept-wing fighter used by the United States which could counter its competitor, the Soviet MiG-15.
