Space is a big place and there’s a lot going on. Astronomers are finding out new things about our galaxy and universe all the time. So what are the latest space discoveries? Well, a black hole with a boarding pass and seat on a plane, a place where you’ll have two shadows, and bad news for Orion the constellation – these are some of the freshest space facts we only recently discovered!

And guys, if you've always wanted to know how many stars are in our galaxy, there's good news for you. The Gaia Mission has been working on making a 3D model of our galaxy and getting a more accurate count of the number of stars in it. They thought it was 1 billion, but that estimate could be up to 400 or even 700 billion stars!

The Earth had two satellites for a short while, the Moon and its little buddy. 2019 was also marked by launching a space sailboat. An ordinary water sailboat moves with the help of wind, and a space one uses light!

Experts also discovered that it's possible to cultivate plants and crops on Mars and the Moon's surfaces. But one of the most interesting space facts is that there seem to be stars older than the Universe. This might be proof that not only the Big Bang is expanding the Universe! Interested? Then here are the 26 biggest discoveries and achievements in space from 2019.

    List:

    Number 10: Kepler-10b
We're kicking off our countdown with Kepler-10b. Kepler-10B is the first confirmed terrestrial planet to be discovered outside the Solar System by the Kepler Space Telescope.

    Number 9: Trappist 1-B
In the ninth spot of our list, we have TRAPPIST 1-b, a planet that has beaten most of our planets in the moon department.

    Number 8: J1407B
Also known as Super-Saturn, this planet is extremely intriguing due to how it looks.

    Number 7: CoRot-7 b
In the seventh spot of our list, we have CoRot-7 B, a planet with such a short orbital period that it revolves around its host star in around 20 hours.

    Number 6: GJ 436 b
This planet is a physical contradiction. Its temperature is about 822 degrees F, certainly hot enough to evaporate water.

    Number 5: Wasp 12B
In the fifth spot of our list, we have Wasp 12B, a planet that's notorious for being elongated in a really strange shape due to the gravity of its parent star and its effect on it.

    Number 4: HD 106906 b
It was originally suggested that the planet known as HD 106906 b shouldn’t exist due to it’s size and distance from its star.

    Number 3: 55 Cancri E
In the third spot of our list, we have 55 Cancri E, a planet almost everyone on Earth would love if they could just traverse 40 light years to it.

    Number 2: Kepler 70 b
We’ve seen blistering hot planets in this list, but none are as absolutely scorching as Kepler 70b, the hottest planet in the Universe.

    Number 1: Kepler-16b
This is one of the few known circumbinary planets, which means that it circles around two stars, similar to Luke Skywalker's home planet in Star Wars.

  • 8 Most MYSTERIOUS Recent Discoveries From Space!

    15:20

From strange visitors from another planet, to when the first galaxy appeared in the universe, here are 8 mysterious recent discoveries from space.

    Subscribe For New Videos!

    8. 2i/Borisov
Despite its fancy name, there is a very simple explanation for what 2i/Borisov is: it's a comet. On the surface of things that doesn't sound very impressive, Why should we care about a comet? But the real thing here isn't that it's a comet, it's that 2i/Borisov is a comet that comes from outside our solar system and is now here. That makes it an Interstellar Comet, which is actually rather rare in our part of the galaxy.

    7. Oumuamua
What is a Oumuamua? It's technically the universes first interstellar object. One that was found in 2017 by scientists. What does interstellar object mean exactly? That would be an object that is flying through space yet isn't tied to the gravity or pull of a star or other object. So basically, it's something that is hurtling through space on its own without anyone's help. Unlike things like comets and asteroids which are given direction and form via things like collisions and planetary gravity.

    6. Planet Nine
Once upon a time, the solar system that contained Earth had nine planets, the 9th of which was called Pluto. However, eventually that title was taken away from Pluto, so now the solar system only has eight planets...or does it? Scientists have been looking at the outer reaches of the solar system and have noticed some strange anomalies, mainly in the orbits and paths of certain objects that don't line up with how objects should orbit the sun.

    5. Proof As to How Early Black Holes Got Big?
There are many forces in the universe that are almost as old as the universe itself, and primary among them are Black Holes. These entities wield powerful gravity fields that in anything and everything around them, and the more mass that they absorb, the bigger they become, even becoming larger than some galaxies. The ones that achieve this level in size are known as Supermassive Black Holes, which are usually found at the center of galaxies.

    4. Asteroid Particle Effects
Asteroids make up a large part of both the solar system we live in, and the universe at large, and many are examining asteroids for clues as to the creation of the universe and beyond. But for the asteroid known as Bennu, when NASA's OSIRIS-REx spacecraft landed on it, they realized that this asteroid was doing something much different than other asteroids.

    3. Mysterious Planet-Mass Objects
An important factor of space exploration right now is that we're mapping out multiple parts of the universe via telescopes and probes, and using the imagines to map out other solar systems and galaxies. A research group from the University of Oklahoma for example is studying a galaxy that is some distance away from the Milky Way, and for the first time since 2018, they've detected planet-mass scale objects within said galaxy.

    2. Planet Around A White Dwarf Star
University of Warwick's Department of Physics and the Millennium Nucleus for Planet Formation (NPF) at the University of Valparaíso published a paper in December of 2019 noting that they had found a gas planet that was circling a white dwarf star. What's more, this dwarf star, and yet the planet is still circling it. This is significant for multiple reasons, as well as raising many mysteries.

    1. New Timeline For Universe Formation?
Without a doubt, one of the biggest questions in our universe is that of, what happened after the Big Bang? This question has turned many scientists to looking at the stars, examining galaxies, and doing the best they can to make a timeline that fits the information they have. However, after finding a galaxy that is much older than the Milky Way, and one that has trillions of stars within it, it's been discovered that the core of the galaxy, and possible other galaxies were made a billion years BEFORE scientists said they had been born.

  • IS EARTH APPROACHING A BLACK HOLE? | Space Discoveries 2020

    8:08

Black hole discoveries scare astronomers. Recent space discoveries 2020 have led scientists to believe there may be a black hole in our solar system. Planet 9 was the original explanation for the weird pull on the planets but recently, astronomers and scientists have been reaching far different conclusions. The even horizon is the point in a black hole where no light can escape.

  • This New Nuclear Battery Could Power Deep Space Missions for Decades

    4:40

Powering deep space missions is tricky, to say the least. But a new method called lattice confinement fusion could be the compact, long-lasting energy source we've been searching for.

In April of 2020, NASA researchers announced they had come up with a new approach to fusion that has the potential to power missions into deep space, and maybe even future laptops here on Earth. This is really exciting news as when it comes to making energy, nuclear fusion is the ultimate goal because of the promise it holds of clean limitless energy that is available on demand.

Unlike nuclear fission, where heavy atoms are split to generate energy, fusion is accomplished by smashing lighter elements together so they combine. This new team of researchers are taking a closer look at something called lattice confinement fusion, where they use atoms of a solid piece of metal like erbium or titanium as a lattice and crammed the spaces in between with deuterium gas until the lattice started to break apart. Eventually, the whole thing was so full of deuterium one researcher described it as more like a powder than a lump of metal.

Find out more about the future of nuclear fusion and this new path being explored by a team of scientists partially from NASA’s Glenn Research Center in this Elements.

Spacecraft of the Future Could Be Powered By Lattice Confinement Fusion

The team believes that their method, called lattice confinement fusion, could be a potential new power source for deep space missions.

    NASA Detects Lattice Confinement Fusion

Lawrence Forsley is a senior experimental physicist with NASA. He discusses the methods to drive and monitor condensed matter nuclear reactions in industrial, US Navy, and NASA laboratories, with an eye toward a clean, energy-rich future.

Where do deep space probes get their power?

Most of the world’s energy comes from burning fuels – heating materials such as coal, gas, oil – or even wood – to covert water to steam, which powers a turbine to produce electricity. For a spacecraft this isn’t so simple. It would be impossible to carry enough stored fuel to maintain power for any reasonable time over the vast distances of space travel.

    12. 250-POUND BOMB
Construction workers in the Dakrong District of central Vietnam’s Quang Tri province were shocked when they discovered a 250-pound bomb! It was an American-made AN-M57 aerial bomb. From their understanding, war-related hazards had already been cleared from the building zone, which sat next to the Ho Chi Minh Highway. Kind of a dangerous surprise!! A worker in 2015 was operating an earth-moving machine when he discovered the bomb roughly five feet (1.5 meters) underground.

    11. 12,000-YEAR-OLD MASTADON
In April of last year, construction workers digging a new sewer line on a Seymour, Indiana farm discovered a mysterious collection of large bones. They alerted Tony Nehrt, one the property owners, who initially wrote the find off as inconsequential. “When they called and told us they found bones, we thought they might be cattle bones,” Nehrt told United Press International (UPI). “We didn’t get the true picture until we saw the size of the bones.”

    10. 14TH-CENTURY CAVE
Earlier this year, railway construction workers in Surrey, England discovered a small sandstone cave and drawings while doing repair work on a railroad! This is just one of several discoveries workers have made while working on railroad projects.

    9. WORLD WAR II GRAVES
In a discovery that was unexpected, to say the least, construction workers building a memorial to victims of communism near the Estonian capital of Tallinn came upon the unmarked graves of an estimated 100 German soldiers who died during World War II. Found in early 2018 near the Baltic coast, the undocumented burials represent what researchers believe is a larger nearby German military cemetery.

    8. Message In A Bottle
While up on 12 feet (3.7 meters) of scaffolding and demolishing an 18-inch (45.7 cm) thick brick wall at Montclair State University in New Jersey in late 2019, a construction worker named Robert Kanaby heard the unexpected sound of glass shattering. Tucked three bricks deep into the middle of the wall, where there would normally be a middle layer of brick, was a message in a now-shattered beer bottle dated July 3, 1907.

    7. DINOSAUR EGGS
Construction workers in China’s Jiangxi Province received the surprise of a lifetime on Christmas day 2017, when they discovered a clutch of 20 to 30 perfectly-preserved dinosaur eggs while blasting through rock and soil. Right as the workers were about to dispose of a large boulder, they noticed oval stones and black fragments in the rock.

    6. AN ACTUAL POT OF GOLD
In the central Netherlands village of Hoef en Haag in 2018, employees from the Oasen utility company discovered a literal pot of gold -- and silver -- while preparing to lay water lines. The employees’ supervisor notified Landscape Heritage Utrecht, an archaeology company that documents local discoveries. They dated the find to the 15th century, when a French noble family called the Dukes of Burgundy ruled the Netherlands. Perhaps you've heard of them?

    5. Rare Mosaic
While installing communication cables in Jerusalem’s Old City in 2017, construction workers stumbled upon an incredibly rare 1,500-year-old mosaic floor bearing a Greek inscription that mentions the Roman Emperors Justinian I and Constantine the Great.

    4. Mammoth Skeletons
Construction workers in Mexico City recently uncovered at least 200 mammoth skeletons while making way for the new Santa Lucía airport, offering renewed hope for learning more about the creature’s mysterious extinction.

    3. Nice Flooring
Amid the ongoing global coronavirus pandemic, Jersey City, New Jersey Mayor Steven Fulop decided to move forward with plans to restore City Hall, taking advantage of the building’s emptiness and the ability to conduct renovations without distracting anyone.

    2. Human Skull
In March of this year, construction workers found an unpleasant surprise- a human skull and a piece of gravestone while digging in St. Louis, Missouri’s Central West End neighborhood. Not really the same as a pot of gold.

    1. New England’s Oldest Human Remains
In early 2019, work crews from the Connecticut Department of Transportation encountered evidence of New England’s earliest human inhabitants while excavating a new bridge site. Dating back roughly 12,500 years to the Paleoindian period, the remains were found about six feet (1.8 meters) underground, along with evidence of human activity

Oceans are full of mysteries and secrets. 71% of the world is covered in water and
scientists have just discovered 3% of our oceans. So, it should not come off as a
surprise if they discovered a whole city underwater, right? we have a list of 10
unbelievable ocean discoveries that will blow your mind. So let’s get into it.
    Number 10.) ancient computer
That's right, the first computer was discovered underwater. Long before Microsoft or
Apple, there was apparently this wonder, the Antikythera mechanism. Discovered
sometime between 1900-1901 on the Antikythera shipwreck off the Greek island of
Antikythera, it is believed to the earliest form of a computer. The Antikythera is an
analog computer, that was designed to serve several purposes, including predicting the
astronomical positions and eclipses on the calendar. As so much of this period of
history's technology has been lost, such advanced use of technology did not reappear in
European historical artifacts until the 14th Century. It is now on display at the National
    Archaeological Museum of Athens.

    Number 9.) outer space ocean
Five oceans of planet earth aren’t the only marine environments that make news when it
comes to discoveries. In April of 2017, NASA announced new evidence that an ocean
underneath the ice of Enceladus, which is a moon of Saturn, could harbor life. In a

plume of gas and icy material spraying from Enceladus, the Cassini spacecraft detected
hydrogen, a key building block for life that, in theory, could provide a food source to
microbes. Scientists believe the hydrogen may come from hydrothermal activity on the
seafloor of the subsurface ocean. In a separate finding announced at the same time,
NASA also described Hubble Space Telescope observations of a probable plume
erupting from Jupiter’s moon Europa. These plumes could be evidence of a subsurface
salty ocean below Europa’s crust as well. With the growing potential to discover life
within the oceans of the solar system, NASA is increasingly turning to the expertise of
the oceanographic community. In 2016, NASA began developing an “ocean worlds
exploration program”. “NASA and oceans” just doesn’t sit well with us.
Number 8.) artifacts of the roman empire
In October 2014, divers off the coast of Italy discovered the remains of a shipwreck.
Although the object had already been detected before the dive, it was only after
reaching the location that the team realized the magnitude of their discovery The ship,
or whatever remains of it, was laden with well-preserved artifacts that were primarily
identified with the time of the Roman Empire, which was almost 2000 years ago. The
boat was 15 meters long and believed to be either a merchant ship or a military vessel.
Terra-cotta pots were discovered in the wreckage, indicating that the cargo had
included olive oil and wine. The ship is assumed to have been an active transport
vessel between Rome and Carthage from 218 BC to 210 BC. It was Named Panarea III,
and it has provided significant insight into the dynamics of ancient trade in the
Mediterranean as well as daily life at that time.

Number 7.) biggest pearl ever discovered
a fisherman in Porto, Philippines found the treasure of a lifetime on his job. One day he
went out fishing. when it was evening, he was about to go back home so he tried pulling
the ship anchor but it was stuck. He had to dive into the water. What he saw was that
the anchor was stuck to a rock and a claw. He took the claw back home not knowing
what it was when he reached, he opened it. To his surprise, he found a pearl inside. He
thought it was a good sign so he used to look and touch the claw every time he went out
fishing, as he thought it was a good luck charm. It was not until 10 years later people
found out that the fisherman had the biggest pearl to ever exist. It was quickly
showcased in a museum and the estimated to be worth around 100 million us dollars.
Not much is known about the fisherman but he was paid a huge chunk of money and
became very rich. But he probably wished he had gotten it 10 years sooner. Well, better
late than never. It really tells us about the things that are inside the oceans.

Number 6.) remains of the Apollo 13 mission
When a rocket is launched into space it is one of the most fascinating achievements for
a country. It all started with America launching the first rocket which traveled to the
moon, known as pollo 13. When a rocket gets out of the stratosphere, to lose the
amount of weight, it ejects parts of it which are directed to fall into the ocean. No one
    really cares about those parts,

    9. The Massive Sphere In Bosnia
Believe it or not, there have been many finds in the world that have to do with random balls or spheres just being left in jungles or other areas. One such sphere was discovered in Bosnia back in 2016, and to this day it still divides people on what it is, and what it isn't.

    8. Early Earthquake Detection Device
In modern times, there are various instruments to help predict and measure the intensity of earthquakes, but these devices were hardly original, as one similar device was somehow made in 132 AD by Chinese Astronomer Zhang Heng.

    7. Stonehenge
In Salisbury Plain in Southern England, you will find a rock formation that is perhaps one of the most famous and mysterious monuments on the planet. This is the place known simply as Stonehenge.
The structure itself is composed of 30 upright stones made of Sarsens. Each stone weighs about 26 tons. All thirty of these stones are aligned in a circle, and as you can see, stones can be found on top of them, connecting the structure in a way that makes it clear there was a plan in its construction.

    6. Baghdad Batteries
The modern battery is one of the most important technological breakthroughs of modern times, but in the ancient days, they may have had their own kind of battery. This is not speculation though, as a site in what was Mesopotamia (and now Iraq) found a special jar that was believed to be an ancient form of battery.

    5. The Copper Scroll Treasure
The Dead Sea Scrolls are one of the most important finds of the last century, but what is forgotten is that there was another treasure found alongside them, a scroll inscribed on copper. This was a common practice of the times meant to ensure that the text didn't fade. This particular copper scroll was discovered in 1952 in Qumran, and after dating it, it was found to be 2000 years old.

    4. The Hand Of A Moa
New Zealand, 1886, a group of archaeologists went to Mount Owen to examine and observe the underground complex of tunnels that lied beneath the mountain. Upon finding a large pile of bones, they found a claw that seemed to resemble a creature of the ancient past, the Moa.

    3. Nazca Lines
In Peru are a series of shapes and formations made into the ground by an ancient tribe called the Nazca; appropriately, these formations are called the Nazca Lines. These geoglyphs are found within one of the high deserts of Peru, and their shape, scale, and detail have left many both impressed, horrified, and confused. At ground level, you won't see anything, but, when you go up in the sky, the true forms of the Nazca Lines emerge.

    2. The Cochno Stone
Found in 2016, the Cochno Stone was discovered in Glasgow, Scotland, and it was something that was immediately deemed unusual. Mainly because it was very large, as it wasn't just a stone, it was a stone slab. One that was 43 feet by 26 feet. Also, it was 5000 years old, which puts it well before Scotland was even a notion of a nation.

    1. Underwater Cairn
In 2003, in the legendary Sea of Galilee, scientists looked under the waters and found something they didn't expect. A massive stone structure consists of stones that are stacked on top of each other. It's estimated that the entirety of the stones measure up to over 60,000 tons.

  • Incredible Discoveries made by the Hubble Telescope

    10:43

Space is a vast and ever-expanding frontier, and without the tools we have today, we might not know much about it. When the Hubble Telescope was introduced and began doing its job, it changed the game in many ways and allowed us to see things we’d never been able to see before. The genius technology has made many discoveries in its lifetime, and these here are some of the best. This is Incredible Discoveries Made by the Hubble Telescope.

    5. Asteroid Collisions
For a very long time, scientists have hypothesized that our asteroid belts are being slowly worn down over time due to collisions between asteroids themselves. The only problem is they’d never seen such a collision as proof of their theory until it happened in the belt between Jupiter and Mars, and the Hubble Telescope caught it. The belt in which the collision occurred is leftover material from when our solar system was constructed. When looking at it, scientists saw what appeared to be a core of an object with an x-shaped pattern near it, and streamers trailing away from it. They concluded that it was the product of a head-on collision between two asteroids—asteroids traveling roughly 15.5 miles (25 km) per second. It’s surprising anything even survived that kind of collision and that both objects weren’t just wholly obliterated with those speeds!

    4. Watching Stars be Born
Sometimes, the Hubble can take a look at, into, and through enormous clouds of dust and gas and literally watch the beginnings and births of thousands and thousands of stars. These glimpses into the early stages of star formation have shown that the birth of a star is highly violent, with shock fronts galore and the spewing of powerful ultraviolet radiation. The telescope has also captured images of gas flowing into these new stars, some of which is then harnessed then channeled toward the poles and shot out at incredible, supersonic speeds in opposite directions. Hubble has helped us to develop an understanding of how stars are born and has given us invaluable insight into how the incredible process works.

    3. Watching Galaxies Grow and Change
Isn’t it pretty crazy that the farther something can see, the more they’re looking back in time? That’s exactly what the Hubble Telescope can do; as it peers farther and farther away into space, it’s looking at older and older images and objects. Some of the more distant (thus older) galaxies that the Hubble can see are smaller and more irregularly shaped and hectic. This seems to show that early galaxies grow up over time, and, when they come across each other, merge with others to become the gigantic, beautiful star systems we see today. Hubble has managed to capture shots of stellar streamers that have been pulled out and thrown through space by galaxy collisions. They can also look into the farthest regions and study a different time and the behavior of early galaxies and determine how they grew, the number of stars they had, and the chemical elements present.

    2. The Passing of a Star
Another thing the telescope has spied is the intriguing and artful death of sun-like stars. These planetary nebulas, which aren’t planets at all and are unrelated, were once thought to be spherical due to observations from ground-based images. Then, when Hubble pointed its lens at some of these dying stars, it revealed that they are far more complex than we thought and not really spherical at all. Some have few tendrils of gas splaying out; some have many; some look like butterflies, others like spokes on a bike wheel, and some can look like hourglasses. They’re all unique and beautiful, and being able to study detailed images like these has allowed scientists a look into the complexities of a collapse of a star into a white dwarf. A white dwarf is what’s left when a star with low mass has used up all of its central nuclear fuel; it’s basically the core of the planet after it loses its outermost layers.

    8:02

11 amazing new discoveries made by astronomers and scientists from twin stars to a shocking triple star system, here are the facts!

Subscribe for new videos Monday Wednesday and Friday!

    6. A Triple Star System
Last month in July, researchers found a new planet that simultaneously orbits 3 stars at once in a triple star system. The new planet titled HD 131399Ab is located in the constellation Centaurus, which is approximately 340 light years from Earth. Scientists have calculated that if someone were to look up from the planet the three orbiting stars would appear as full and bright as the full moon does here on earth. As a point of reference, Star A is about 80 percent larger and almost 8 times brighter than our own sun. The stars are visible for only 550 earth years of the planet’s orbit, which means a full orbit is 1,100 earth years! This new find shows that planets are able to exist in different layouts than what is believed

    5. The Expansion of the Universe
A couple of months ago it was announced that researchers had discovered that the universe is expanding at a much faster rate than what was initially thought. They were able to determine that its expansion is around 5 to 9 percent greater than what was previously expected. The rate of the universe’s expansion is known as the Hubble Constant, named after the famous American astronomer Edwin Hubble, which is now at a value of 45.5 miles per second per megaparsec. And to give a better understanding, a megaparsec is the equivalence of 3.26 million light years. This could help aid in the understanding of materials such as dark matter, dark energy, and dark radiation.

    4. A White Dwarf Time Bomb
This alluring image was captured by the Hubble Telescope that depicts the aftermath of an exploding white dwarf. The star had detonated 160,000 light-years away and what we can see are the hot gases being blasted throughout space. Now this supernova wasn’t caused by the star running out of hydrogen, as is the case with half of supernova explosions, but rather as a result of stealing. That’s right, the white dwarf was on it’s way to burning out when it managed to steal the neighboring gasses from a nearby star and create a new outer layer in the process. This made the star grow and become too unstable, resulting in a massive eruption.

    3. Twin Stars
It was discovered in late 2014 that what astronomers initially believed was one giant mass was really two separate stars that were orbiting each other very closely at a speed of 621,000 miles per hour. The two blue stars, both named MY Camelopardalis, have been identified as being incredibly much youngerーthey’re only 2 million years oldーthan most of the other formed stars and are each roughly 30 times bigger than our sun. This is one of the largest binary star systems that we know of. These two stars are set to eventually collide and form one giant star, which is how scientists believe a lot of the older stars in the universe came to be, however, no one knows when.

    2. Dragonfly 44
What separates this galaxy from our very own Milky Way is that Astronomers have discovered that it is almost entirely made up of dark matter, 99.99 percent of it to be exact. For those of you who don’t know, dark matter is an invisible and mysterious material that has puzzled scientists for years. They aren’t quite sure what it is but they believe it’s real because of the effects its gravity has on the other things in space and it makes up about 80 percent of the universe. The galaxy was first spotted back in 2015 with the help of the Dragonfly Telephoto Array in New Mexico that is able to look at objects in space that aren’t bright enough for other telescopes. The array achieves this by using a combination of eight telephoto lenses and cameras.

    1. Centauri B
Astronomers have recently discovered that there is an Earth-sized planet that lies orbiting the red dwarf star known as Proxima Centauri. The planet dubbed as Centauri b is located 4.2 light years from our own solar system and is said to be found in the star’s “habitable zone”. Researchers have been trying to look for planets near Proxima Centauri for the last 15 years but have had no such luck, until now. How did this planet go undetected for so long when astronomers have found other planets that are located even further than Centauri b? The reason is said to be “sparse sampling and the longer term variability of the star”. Either way, scientists are now going to focus their efforts to see if there is any potential here to support life.

More planets, something called a black-hole triplet, and stars merging into one humongous star--not bad for one trip around the sun.

  • The Origins of the Exaltations: A New Discovery

    2:32:11

In episode 255 of the podcast astrologers Chris Brennan and Benjamin Dykes unveil a new discovery about the origins of the exaltations, derived from a lost Hermetic text preserved by Abu Ma'shar.

Last summer Keiji Yamamoto and Charles Burnett released their long-awaited translation of The Great Introduction to Astrology by the 9th century astrologer Abu Ma'shar. This was the first time this text has been translated into English in its entirety.

I received my copy on July 30, 2019, and the most interesting thing I found was that Abu Ma'shar frequently cites a lost Greek text attributed to Hermes Trismegistus. This appears to be the same text called the Panaretos that the 4th century astrologer Paulus Alexandrinus drew on for his treatment of seven planets Lots, although Abu Ma'shar shares much more from the text than Paulus did.

The most interesting pieces of the Hermes material preserved by Abu Ma'shar is that it contains a set of rationales for the domicile and exaltation schemes that are unique, and it seems to preserve what may be the original conceptual rationales for both of those schemes.

The exaltations chapter in particular provides a much more detailed explanation for the exaltations than any I've ever seen, and it is also unique because it provides an astronomical rationale for the exaltations degrees, not just the signs of exaltation and fall.

I first talked about this discovery in episode 26 of the Casual Astrology Podcast, which was released on September 18, 2019. I urged Ben to look into it to help confirm the discovery, and over the past several months he worked on his own translation of Abu Ma'shar from the Arabic, which he finished and shared with me on May 8, 2020.

Ben was able to confirm that most of the math for the exaltation degrees seems to work out, and so with that confirmation we decided to record this episode to present this discovery and talk about it on May 13, 2020 around 5:15 PM MT.

We begin the episode by providing some background information on the text, and then eventually transition into a summary of the arguments presented by the text for how to derive the exaltations of the planets and their degrees.

Interestingly, the arguments for the domiciles and exaltations presented by this text are based firmly rooted in the tropical zodiac, and this raises some major questions about previous assumptions that the exaltations had their origins in the sideral zodiac and the earlier Mesopotamian tradition.

The discovery also raises questions about the extent to which Hellenistic astrology, and western astrology in general, partially represents a sudden invention or technical construct that was put together sometime around the 1st century BCE.

This is kind of visually intensive episode, and our friend Paula Belluomini made a number of diagrams to illustrate the concepts, so I would recommend watching the video version of the episode if you can.

Ben plans to publish his translation of the Great Introduction by Abu Ma'shar sometime in the next few months, and you can signup for the email list on his website to receive a notification when that is released:

This episode is also available in just an audio version on the podcast website:

10 Recent Discoveries That Could REWRITE History

Like and subscribe right now or this spider will crawl on your face when you are sleeping. Our
world is full of surprises. All these amazing discoveries yet, it never fails to amaze us every time.
Hi everyone! In today’s video, we are going to share 10 recent discoveries that could rewrite
history. So keep watching till the end.
Now, Most of the world’s history originates from what’s been written and we only know the
half of it. A lot of where we originated from was never scratched into stone and, today has been
lost. We don't have a clue about what pieces are missing from the history’s picture. Yet, from
time to time, archeologists discover things that don't exactly fit with what's been recorded.
More often we find things in a weird place that nobody knows how these things get there?
However, they recommend some unimaginable occasions that may never have been recorded.
The only tales that made it to the history books are the ones told by the survivors.
So, here’s a list of 10 recent historical discoveries, let’s dive into the past!
    #10: The heaven Handbags
There’s a great chance people from the old world were a fan of shopping or perhaps had some
weird art taste. There's a peculiar art design that keeps springing up all around the globe. It
shows something that seems as though a little tote, generally in a bunch of three and ordinarily
up in the sky. Also, no one truly recognizes what they mean. The latest one in Turkey shows
three purses gliding over the entirety of creation. Similar totes have been found all around the
globe, including India, Egypt, and even Central America. It is by all accounts something that has
been passed on from an old Middle Eastern culture, which may make it an approach to follow
where these folks came from. The reason, intriguingly, the Maori of New Zealand utilized the
three totes, as well. They have a fantasy about a saint named Tane who went up to Heaven to
get three bushels of information—a picture that appears to be oddly like the one cut in stone in
Turkey. It could simply be a fortuitous event. In any case, this may be a solid sign that the Maori
have progenitors who once lived in the Middle East before they moved to New Zealand.

#9: The Giant Village of Peru
Famous for the Machu Picchu sanctuary, Peru has unveiled another chapter from the history.
When the Spanish originally came to Peru, conquistador Pedro Cieza de Leon recorded all that
he could in a book called The Chronicles of Peru. It's loaded with the fantastical nitty-gritty and
precise depictions of the way of life of the locals, the victories by the Spanish, the subtleties of
the earth—and peculiarly, a town made by giants. Cieza de Leon recorded a local legend about
giants that showed up "in vessels made of reeds, as large as enormous boats.” According to the
legend, the monsters fabricated wells that were past the local innovation just as huge towns to
suit their size. Afterward, an extraordinary fire descended and expended the giants. Oddly,
however, Cieza de Leon professed to have seen the town and the very much created by the
goliaths. He said that they were sufficiently large to fit the story. He even professed to have
seen a giant's skull and a femur and authenticated that different Spaniards saw teeth that
probably weighed 0.2 kilograms (0.5 lb). It's unclear what he saw. Is it safe to say that he was
deluded? Did he make it up? Or on the other hand, did the Spanish conquistadors truly discover
something in Peru that proposed they weren't the main outside guests to show up?

    #8: The Egyptian Goddess temple
On the western shoreline of India, there are the remains of a sanctuary to the goddess Pattini.
It is anything but an especially weird thing to discover in India, then again, actually there's a
mystery load underneath that is reputed to hold an underground altar to the Egyptian goddess
