Hopefully you'll never find yourself in a falling elevator or facing an angry bear, or lost in the middle of a desert, or suffering from a frostbite. However, if something dangerous happens, it's important to know how to act in such situations. You never know what life's preparing for you. In order to be forearmed and ready to face any situations on your way, check out these survival tips that might save your life one day.

For example, do you know that one of the main rules you should follow in a falling elevator, is not to stand up straight. One more rule is not to jump... ever! Jumping will not save your life. The best option is to lie flat on the floor. This position will distribute the force across your entire body. And one more obvious but important thing: don't panic!

  • What If Natural Disasters Happened Every 5 Minutes

    8:45

If there were cataclysms on Earth every 5 minutes, living conditions on our planet would be almost the same as 4.5 billion years ago. Back then, seas and oceans boiled, lightning struck everywhere, tectonic plates changed their shape, lava flowed from volcanoes. And worse, no internet! The Earth resembled a vast, boiling cauldron, where life was gradually being created. If it starts to boil again, this cauldron could destroy almost all life on the planet.

Consecutive cataclysms – won’t hurt to pretend. Let’s imagine, shall we? Okay, you wake up in a small underground bunker. The seismic sensor indicates that a 7-point earthquake will start in a few minutes. You pack a huge waterproof backpack and go upstairs. You need to leave the shelter because supplies are low. Also, yesterday you picked up a radio signal telling all survivors to go south immediately. The coordinates they gave aren't far from your location. You have to hurry, though, before the landscape changes again...

    SUMMARY
Many wild animals can be dangerous or even fatal for a person. If you look at the statistics, you might feel terrified.
    - Sharks cause just six deaths a year - their infamous reputation is very exaggerated.
    - Wolves are responsible for ten deaths annually.
    - Lions kill 22 people a year.
    - Now get ready: elephants, cute lovely giants, are the reason that more than 500 people lose their lives every year!
    - Hippopotamuses equal them in this scary competition.
    - Crocodiles turn out to be much more dangerous than sharks: about one thousand deaths a year.
    - But the champion here is the snake: 100,000 people meet their end at the teeth of this reptile.

We hope you will never have to escape from a rhinoceros, swim away from a crocodile, or meet a hungry lion. However, now you will be able to protect yourself in the wilderness.

  • 7 Ways to Survive Natural Disasters

    9:34

How to Survive Natural Disasters. Here’s a list of survival tips that can save your life in an emergency.
We live in a time when natural disasters occur more and more often and get more and more devastating. Many of us believe we should blame the human race for that. Whether it’s true or not, we all want to know how to survive when those disasters happen.

Some rules are universal for most natural disasters. A national campaign called Ready was started in the United States to inform the population about how to get ready for and survive in different emergency situations. It recommends having a basic survival kit to provide you with the most important things just in case. Remember you will need to have enough food, water, and other supplies for at least 72 hours after the disaster.
“Other supplies” include a battery powered weather radio, flashlight, first aid kit, a whistle, a dust mask, personal sanitation items (such as moist towelettes), pliers, can opener for food, maps of your area and an emergency cell phone with backup batteries.

    TIMESTAMPS
    Hurricane 0:40
    Tornado 1:45
    Tsunami 3:15
    Flood 4:10
    Avalanche 5:03
    Wildfire 6:00
    Earthquake 7:00

    SUMMARY
    - If a hurricane starts while you are driving, leave your vehicle and find a building to shelter in, or a ditch. Stopping in an overpass will not save you. If your home is a trailer and there is enough time to flee to a safe area – do it.
    - If a tornado starts when you are in a public building, follow the same rules. You want to stay as low as possible. Avoid windows and open spaces such as auditoriums, gyms, and large hallways. Desks and benches can give you some extra protection if you get under them. It is impossible to outrun a tornado.
    - Tsunamis are so fast they hit the coast minutes after the earthquake. Remember that tall buildings, including hotels right in the beach area, can provide an excellent shelter. In case a tsunami finds you at sea, stay there instead of going back to the coast. It won’t be a safe haven.
    - Don’t try to be the bravest person around and stay in your house once you hear the evacuation warning. Leave for safety in higher grounds with your important papers in a waterproof container. If a flash flood gives you no time to evacuate and the water is all around you, don’t try to swim across it.
    - When an avalanche starts, try to move to the side of the slope as fast as you can. There will be more snow in the center of the flow. To move faster, drop any heavy equipment you have on you. If you can’t escape it, try using a sturdy tree to keep you above the snow.
    - If you find yourself in a wildfire area, it is critically important to ensure that you can breathe. If you fail to do it, you can pass out in the midst of a danger zone. Use a wet cloth to cover your nose and mouth and escape to safety.
    - If an earthquake starts when you are inside, stay where you were. Experts say that during an earthquake you must drop to the floor, get underneath a table, cover your neck and head with one hand, and hold on with the other hand. Your entire body must be under the table. Don’t try to run out of the building - the exterior of a building is one of the most dangerous places.

  • Dont Watch If You Cant Handle the Truth

    8:19

And just like that, you clicked. See how we just told you not to do something, and you’re all hooked. Sure, you did it out of curiosity and sabotage, but that’s exactly the point. That’s just one of the many mind games other people and even your own brain plays on you. Psychological manipulation occurs when one person is used for the benefit of another. The manipulator deliberately creates an imbalance of power and exploits the victim to serve his or her agenda.

Every manipulator targets a very precious part of you, your emotions. When you think with your brain, you make rational, solid choices. But manipulators don’t want you to do that. They want to shut down your mind and make you stop thinking rationally. Then, you’re driven by emotions that push you to do things you’d normally never do. If you don’t want to get caught in this trap, make sure you stop and think: “What’s in it for me? Do I really need it?”. But there are other ways of manipulating. Some of them make you believe that you need something to be happy. Making your own choices can be a little bit tricky...

  • 10 Ways to Survive an Earthquake, According to Experts

    8:40

Find out how you can save yourself and protect your family in case of an earthquake. These survival hacks are important for all of us, even if you don't live in an area with a lot of seismic activity. No one is 100% safe from this disaster because you never know where you might be traveling or living in the future. So pay close attention to these safety recommendations that could save your life one day.
Fortifying your house is a good place to start. Make sure you have enough supplies, including food, medications, fire extinguishers, batteries, and flashlights. Have an expert test your house’s foundation so it won’t slip during an earthquake.
Depending on where the earthquake finds you, you should follow different survival rules. The most important thing in all cases is not to panic and to memorize the Drop, Cover, and Hold on technique. Drop right where you are onto your hands and knees. This is a safe position that allows you to slowly move towards shelter. Use one arm to cover your head and neck. A massive desk or table makes a good shelter. If there’s nothing in the room to hide under, at least stay away from the windows. Remain in this position and bend over as much as you can to protect your vital organs. Hold on like this until the shaking stops. If you were able to find some shelter, hold onto it using one hand and be prepared to move with it as it might shift.

  • The Only Way to Survive a Sinking Ship

    10:01

Let's say, you're setting off on a long-awaited cruise; you're on cloud nine, and nothing could be further from your mind than paying attention to the safety precautions. But however unwilling you might be to waste precious vacation time on listening to safety instructions, you should remember that chances are, it could save your life.

Yes, the odds of being trapped on a sinking ship nowadays are quite low. But there are things you can do to survive if the near-impossible does happen. Hopefully, it’ll never happen to you, but just in case, it's vitally important to know how to react.

    SUMMARY:
Take part in the first-day safety drill 0:51
What you should do first 1:44
    Follow the crew's directions 2:42
How you can help others 3:21
Try to get to a lifeboat as quickly as possible 3:58
What if you have to jump off the ship 5:50
    ???? Why ships sink ???? 7:39

    #survivaltips #ships #brightside

    SUMMARY:
    - Try to remember where the lifeboat closest to your cabin is, and figure out how to get there if it's dark or the weather is stormy. Also, read the instructions for how to put on and use your floatation device.
    - Try to stay calm - you have no time for panic. If you're in your cabin, immediately put on your floatation device and take anything else that may help you later.
    - The next step, which might become a life-altering one, is to get to safety. And to do that, you need to follow the crew's directions.
    - Regrettably, studies claim that only 35% of people manage to stay calm in a critical situation. If you're one of those lucky ones, help other passengers to get their bearings.
    - If you see a person standing still in the middle of the turmoil, yell at them - it's an effective way to bring them back to reality.
    - After that, concentrate on your top-priority task, which is to get to a lifeboat as quickly as possible.
    - But let's say you look around and see no available lifeboats whatsoever and start to panic! What then? In that case, try to find some floatation device, like a life preserver ring, and throw it into the water.
    - If there's no time left, and you realize you'll have to jump off the ship, always check where you'll land first. Otherwise, you may be hit by some wreckage, a boat, or other people, and end up underwater.
    - The cold shock may pull you underwater even faster than hypothermia sets in. That's why it's vitally important to collect yourself.
    - Surprisingly, every ship sinks in a different way, depending on its center of gravity and size, the shape of its hull, and, of course, the cause of the accident.

  • How to Survive a Tornado And Recognize It

    10:01

The first and most important thing any experienced weatherman, survivalist or tornado chaser will tell you is you need to know what you’re dealing with. Without a clear understanding of what exactly a tornado is, every other tip or piece of advice has a good chance to fall flat and do no good after all.

    Myths about tornadoes 8:06

    #survivaltips #tornado #brightside

    SUMMARY:
    - Most of the time they appear in the summer when the ground is heated and the upper parts of the atmosphere are influenced by cold winds brought on by thunderstorm supercells.
    - The force of their collision creates a spinning wall cloud right below the level of the parenting storm.
    - With time, both the updraft and the downdraft become stronger and stronger. It eventually produces a vertical column of spinning air that starts to suck debris from the ground like a giant drain.
    - A tornado can be up to 2 miles in diameter. The wind speed sometimes surpasses 300 mph, and the speed of the funnel itself traversing the land is somewhere between 25 to 40 mph.
    - The main way to assure your safety is to be aware of your surroundings, and plan in case a tornado comes your way.
    - There’s a term: ‘Tornado Alley’, which includes most of the Southeastern and Midwestern parts of the USA.
    - Specially trained people can detect the very first signs of a storm that can produce a tornado. There are more than 230,000 of these vigilant storm-watchers across the US.
    - When observers confirm the first signs of upcoming tornadoes, the emergency warning will immediately go off.
    - An F-0 tornado is more like a landspout – it won’t cause any significant damage.
    - An F-1 tornado, with wind speeds up to 110 mph, is more of a concern.
    - An F-2 tornado can tear small trees out from the ground. Any mobile home would be destroyed by it.
    - An F-3 tornado is where the real trouble begins. The wind speed can get up to 205 mph.
    - F-4 and F-5 tornadoes are the rarest, but also the most dangerous. If you ever hear that something like that is coming your way – it’s best to find a bunker, safe room, or an underground shelter nearby.
    - The best way to avoid a tornado in a car is to figure out the direction it’s going and take a course about 90 degrees from this direction.
    - Shopping malls or cinemas could be extremely dangerous if you want to hide from tornadoes. The myth that larger structures are safer is just a myth.
    - One suggests that it’s better to open windows during a tornado, and that’s as false as it gets.
    - Another important misconception is that smaller tornados are weaker and less dangerous. That’s also not true.
    - No matter how small or slow-looking a twister is – try to not underestimate it, and always use every method of avoiding trouble.

    Music:

    SUMMARY:
    - If you first noticed a crocodile, you’re the type of person who sees the big picture. That could mean that you sometimes take the small details in life, like a walk in the park or a cup of hot coffee in the morning, for granted.
    - If you immediately saw faces, you're pretty people-oriented. You're an extrovert, which means you need to charge your battery through social interaction with others.
    - If you chose to help the guy in crutches, you’re a leader by nature. You're, organized, practical, and focused on your life and goals. People might find you a bit cold emotionally.
    - If you chose the gray figure, then you are a bona-fide perfectionist! Unlike the others, the gray one isn’t a square but a rectangle.
    - An experienced survivalist would choose door number two. While lions are known to survive without food for as long as a month, starving for two months will definitely kill the animal.
    - If you're an espresso, you’re more traditional and prefer to keep it simple. As for you double espressos, work means a lot to you. You're determined, responsible, and maybe a little impatient.
    - The color of the mermaid's tail shows how sociable you are and how well you interact with others.
    - If the fish you imagined is docile and inoffensive, chances are that you can confidently stand up for your opinion and defend the things you believe in.
    - The shell indicates how open you are towards the people around you.
    - If the beach is crowded, you're probably a social butterfly, constantly surrounded by friends and acquaintances.

  • If You See a Tsunami, Never Do Certain Things!

    8:20

A tsunami is a string of immense waves that appear after earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, underwater landslides, and even asteroid impacts. The largest mega-tsunami wave ever recorded was documented on July 9, 1958, in Lituya Bay, in Alaska. The height of the wave reached a stunning 1,720 ft.

This situation is no joke, and as soon as you find out that a tsunami is coming, you must act immediately to save your life. Here’s what you need to do right away.

    #tsunami #survivaltips #brightside

    SUMMARY:
    - The water may suddenly drain, showing the ocean floor, or, vice versa, a wall of water may appear on the horizon.
    - If animals unexpectedly group together, hide in different nooks, leave the area, or show extreme anxiety, these may be signs of an approaching natural disaster.
    - As soon as you hear a tsunami alert, don't wait for even a second - evacuate immediately!
    - Move as far away from the shore as you can, heading toward high hills, mountains, or a forest.
    - If possible, go at least 2 miles inland and 100 feet above sea level.
    - Keep in mind that roads often get wiped out by tsunamis; therefore, after everything’s done, you may have trouble finding your way back.
    - Stay away from power lines, walls, bridges, and whatnot. Even if these constructions look sturdy enough, they can collapse during the aftershock.
    - Evacuation routes in potentially dangerous areas are often marked by a special sign with a wave and an arrow on it.
    - Even when you think that everything's over, don't be too quick to relax. Tsunamis come in waves, and there may be dozens of them.
    - Try to find reliable information by listening to radio updates.
    - Don't forget about the risk of electrocution. The water can be electrically charged by damaged underground power lines.
    - Far from the shore, such waves usually travel at a breakneck speed of up to 500 miles per hour. But when a wave is getting closer to the coast, it slows down to 30 miles per hour and grows in height.
    - If a tsunami is drawing nearer while you're far from the shore, paddle toward the horizon, to the deep sea.
    - A tsunami’s waves can travel at a speed of 20 to 30 miles per hour and reach a height of 10 to 100 feet.
    - About 80% of all the tsunamis are born in the Pacific Ocean's Ring of Fire, which is a seismically active zone with 452 volcanoes and the world's largest number of earthquakes.

???? Rock the coolest Bright Side MERCH (open globally!) at:

In our daily lives, we are surrounded by lots of objects that seem so common we don’t even stop to think why they are really needed and how they appeared. Did you know, for example, that those two holes on a side of any Converse shoe are there not only to let the stinky air out? Sure, breathability is important for any athlete. The second reason is that athletes lace through those holes to get a better grip.

Donuts have a hole in the middle. No, it's not designed for an easier grip. It's actually made this way for mass baking so that they cook all the way through evenly. Most metallic zippers have a hidden lock inside them to save you from awkward situations such as an undone fly. Bath foam isn’t only for fun or a nice smell – it also helps regulate the temperature. The bubbles keep the water hot, so you can enjoy a bath a bit longer! So, as you may have guessed, today, we'll tell you about the extraordinary purposes of the most ordinary things.

  • How To Survive Airplane Crash - Ditching, Fire, Jungle and Arctic

    14:13

I visited Dynamic Advanced Training in Dubai, a comprehensive learning organisation specialising in aviation safety and security training. My aviation survival skills were certainly put to the test. First, I went into a hydraulic driven airplane cabin simulator; this is used to test scenarios like heavy turbulence, smoke filled cabins, oxygen mask drop-downs and crash evacuations. I was assisted by 3 qualified cabin crew, who are friends of mine.

Next, I experienced survival situations in both jungle and arctic environments. The mock up environments were hyper-realistic. My lunch break was spent inside a private jet mock up cabin, to practice how to serve my fellow passengers with McDonald’s BigMac and fries.

Then, I went through firefighting training; to cool off after this, I jumped into the pool for emergency ditching on water practice.

Thanks to Dynamic Advanced Training to provide me this valuable aviation training experience. For more info, please visit

  • If a Stranger Acts Like Your Friend in Public, Its a Cry for Help!

    8:18

Riley is 19 years old. An hour ago she walked out of her house in a very good mood. She went for a walk, and in a couple of hours she was to meet her friends. While standing in line for an ice cream, she noticed that some man was staring at her from around the corner. He was wearing black shaggy pants, a black hoodie and sunglasses. Even though it’s hard to recognize a person dressed like that, she was pretty sure she’d never seen him before, and he looked… suspicious.

What to do if you're being followed? Normally, getting followers is a good thing, but only if they stay within social media’s reach. So if you feel like someone’s getting on your tail, it’s always good to know how to safely manage the situation. We gathered a few useful tips to help you avoid bad consequences if you’re being followed or watched. If you ever find yourself in a similar situation, remember rule number one: trust your gut. If you’re feeling uncomfortable, don’t take any risks.

  • 8 Basic Skills to Survive When Seconds Count

    8:54

In an emergency situation, even the most everyday items become extremely valuable. It's very important to know what to do in such situations and how to use these things to save your life. Do you know, for example, what to do if you get bitten by a snake? Or how to find out whether a bite came from a venomous or a non-venomous snake? There are around 600 venomous snake species, and you should look out for vipers and cobras. Each has a different type of venom and needs different treatments.

Or imagine this. You're chilling at home watching TV, and suddenly you hear an eerie whooshing noise. It sounds like a soft gush of wind, but you confirm there's nothing there after checking all the doors. The next day, you feel pressure in your chest, and it gets worse as the week progresses. Then chest pains follow with a dreadful feeling of exhaustion. You can't help but think there's something wrong with your body, but the problems are within your house... So, today we'll tell you about 8 things you should know in a critical situation.

    SUMMARY:
    - If your wrists are bound with zip ties, rotate and move them back and forth against each other. It's likely to loosen the cords a bit, and you'll be able to remove the ties.
    - If you find yourself with frostbite, take care of it as soon as you can. Despite the popular misconception, do NOT pour hot water on the damaged skin – it’ll make things much worse!
    - If you run out of water in the wilderness, your top priority is to find a source of it. Keep in mind that water always runs downhill.
    - If you get lost in the wilderness and have no idea what direction to choose, find a stream or a small creek. Follow it until it merges with a larger river.
    - Dip the matches into hot wax and let them dry. It’ll make them waterproof, and to use one, you'll just have to scrape the wax off the match head.
    - The heat coming from your fire will cause the rocks to expand. Eventually, they’ll give in, and you may get trapped in a rockfall or a landslide.
    - If you find yourself surrounded by snow and with no drinking water on hand, eating snow is NOT the best way to rehydrate. In fact, it’ll most likely lead to further dehydration!
    - If you’re restrained and lying in a puddle of mud or muddy water, arch your back. This posture will help the air get to your lungs faster and more easily.
    - As soon as you realize you're lost in the woods during a hike, immediately stop. It may sound counterintuitive, but the best solution isn't to keep walking.
    - There’s an Urban Survival Myth that it's safe to drink saltwater in small amounts. But in reality, such a delusion can have very dramatic consequences.
    - When you go on a hike or decide to spend several days camping, pack your bag with some extra stuff for unpredicted situations.
    - Opt for products that don't weigh a lot, like dried fruit and peanut butter or beef jerky.

    18:42

What does it mean to be able to read other people? It's about knowing, beyond words, what they're thinking or what they want to say. It's about sensing what they mean, even if they say something completely different. The ability to read other people can't but affect your social and personal life.

It may sound cliche, but you don't need any super powers to be able to do that. No mind reading or telekinesis skills, no tips from Doctor Strange. All you need is to observe and notice tiny details in their appearance, handshake, tone of their voice, gestures. It all matters and gives you that full picture.

  • 50+ Psychological Tricks That Work Every Time

    20:01

Every time you meet someone new you've got an interesting job to do: analyze that person. One might ask: how do you actually do that? Do you need some special type of scan? No, actually you don't. There're multiple details telling you the story of that person: including body language, posture, tone of voice... and even handshake!

For example, do you know what a glove handshake is? In fact, the person giving you such a handshake can be characterized as trustworthy. Meanwhile, the person who puts his/her hand on top of a handshake is trying to show you who's the boss. So a handshake isn't that simple.

    SUMMARY:
    - Never use bleach and cleaning products that contain ammonia at the same time and in the same room. Their vapors will mix in the air and create a toxic gas called chloramine.
    - The smell of urine or fish at home means that the electrical wiring might be melting, which can lead to a fire or even an explosion!
    - Try not to leave a pan or a deep-fryer unsupervised. But if you did, and your cooking oil caught fire, do NOT attempt to extinguish this fire with water – it’ll only make the flames shoot higher!
    - A simple spare tire can save your life. While burning, it will produce thick black smoke visible from miles away, and chances are, somebody will notice your SOS signal.
    - Three to four seconds before lightning strikes, you'll feel a metallic taste in your mouth, and your hair will stand on end. Immediately sit down, bring your heels together, and place your hands on your knees.
    - If you suspect that some object might be electrified, but you have to check it, touch it with the back of your hand.
    - Never touch the area around the wound; otherwise, the venom will spread way faster.
    - If you're calling an emergency service, first of all, give them your address. Only after that should you explain the reason for your call.
    - If you get disoriented after diving and can't figure out which way you should swim to get back to the surface, exhale.
    - Any scratch or bite received from a wild animal can lead to rabies. Within 10-15 minutes after the accident, you should thoroughly wash the wound and rush to a hospital.
    - If you're crossing the road and see a bright sun reflection on the windshield of the oncoming car, chances are the driver won't see you.
    - Always plug your nose when you jump into a lake or a pond from high up, feet first. The water could be swarming with dangerous one-celled animals, and the most horrifying among them is something known as the brain-eating amoeba.
    - If you find yourself face to face with a tornado, and it seems to be hovering over the same area, it's most likely moving toward you. Choose an upright standing object and focus on it.
    - If your car skids, you can regain control of it by steering in the direction of the skid rather than against it.
