    Wilton Ferebee is a deck electrician specialist and Master Shipbuilder at Newport News Shipbuilding. He’s also a COVID-19 survivor. This spring, Ferebee found himself an intensive care unit and on a ventilator as a result of the virus. Now recovered and back at work, he has a message for fellow shipbuilders.

    Worldwide there have been more than five million cases of COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus, and more than 328,000 deaths. While those numbers are shocking, the reality is the majority of those who contract the illness survive it.

    Many people believe that having the virus is an experience akin with having the flu or a bad cold. Survivors, though, are telling different stories, in which many of them have experienced a rollercoaster of severe symptoms. Doctors are also investigating whether the virus could cause long-term health complications.

    So what is it really like to have Covid-19 and come out the other side? In this episode of The Stream, we’re joined by a group of survivors to find out.

  • COVID-19 Survivor Urges Caution, Vaccination After Nearly Dying From Virus


    Shannon Brown was a healthy former nurse who took precautions as COVID-19 spread through Michigan. In March of 2021, Brown, 50, quickly deteriorated after a positive diagnosis. She was flown to Michigan Medicine, where she received numerous therapies and was discharged the following month. Now recovering, Brown is urging peers to take the virus seriously and to get the COVID vaccine if they qualify.
