The first Part traces the development of the four rocky worlds closest to the Sun: Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars. Born together, they battled the unbelievable violence of the early solar system to become stable planets. For a while each had a moment of hope when they enjoyed almost earth-like conditions. Yet today Mercury is a scorched barren world. Venus is a runaway greenhouse world with a scorching atmosphere and Mars is a frozen desert. Only on Earth do oceans – and life – persist.

    Wiki page

In this final segment of our “How far away is it” video book, we cover the structure of the visible Universe as we currently know it.
    We start with some galaxy and galaxy clusters beyond our local superclusters, including: Abell 2029 with its supermassive galaxy IC 1101; Quasar Markarian; a massive cluster gravitationally lensing a more distant cluster; El Gordo; some distant supernovae remnants; gravitational lensing in giant galaxy clusters like Abell 1689, Abell 68, and more. We then cover dark matter discovery in the Coma cluster and evidence for it in the Bullet cluster. We see a gravitationally lensed supernova;
Next, we cover slowly expanding space and the impact that has on measuring distances using GN-z11, currently beyond the visible horizon, as an example. We also cover how recent redshift measurements from distant Type 1a Supernovas have provided evidence that the expansion is accelerating. We explain how this leads to the concept of ‘Dark Energy’ by examining the concept of a cosmic scale factor and how it changes over time. With this we introduce ‘cosmological redshift’ as a measure of the expansion.
We then cover the creation of the Cosmic Background Microwave (CMB) radiation and what that tells us about the formation of galaxy walls around great voids. We then cover some of the recent galaxy surveys that are helping us understand the fabric of the visible Universe. These include the 2dF Galaxy Redshift Survey of 52,000 galaxies out to 3 billion light years, and the Sloan Digital Sky Survey that mapped one million galaxies. We show the 3D supercomputer video that shows the fabric of the Universe is like a web of galaxies with massive voids. We show some of the galaxy surveys that show this web-like structure.
We conclude with a review of the cosmic distance ladder and our last adjustment based on cosmological redshift. And we end with Edwin Hubble’s own words on the limits of our knowledge.

    31:40

Proxima Centauri is a small, low-mass star located 4.2465 light-years away from the Sun in the southern constellation of Centaurus. Last month there was the announcement of BLC1, a possible SETI candidate signal spatially coming from Proxima Centauri. But what is the Proxima Centauri system like? Could life exist on Proxima B? Would intelligent life be able to withstand the solar flares from Proxima?

Parallax Nick, is a science presenter and YouTuber with a channel that focuses on sharing his thoughts and knowledge of science, history and the multiverse at large. Nick looks to our past to place a present understanding in context, and, hopefully a better grasp of the future.

There are approximately 1,400 stellar systems in space within the radius of 50 light years from the Solar system. Some of them are multiple and contain two and more objects, which makes the overall number of our stellar neighbours over 2,000. These are all sorts of stars, from dim red dwarves to dazzling giants whose temperatures are beyond our imagination. The incredible scale and great abundance of space objects in all their diversity can’t but amaze. Life’s too short to give account of each and every one of them.

Jupiter boasts quite a vast array of moons.
Four of the most well-known ones – Io, Callisto, Ganymede and Europa – were discovered as far back as in 1609 by Galileo Galilei. Similar to the Moon and Mercury in size, they are on the list of the largest satellites in the Solar System. It is also suggested that when forming Jupiter accumulated substantial amounts of thermal energy due to gravitational contraction. As a result, it is now giving off more of this energy than it is getting from the Sun. That is why the gas giant with all the objects orbiting it may be seen as a curious version of the Solar System in miniature.

  • Do We Live In An Infinite Universe? Weird Alien Worlds Beyond Our Solar System

    1:35:19

Though Earth was neatly orbiting the Sun as a rocky mass four and a half billion years ago, no organism could survive there. Radiation from the recent supernova kept the planet extremely hot, its surface molten, and oxygen was non-existent. Plus, incredibly massive meteorites and asteroids frequently slammed onto the surface — creating even more heat.
The Earth got so hot, it began melting. Heavier material sank to the bottom, lighter stuff rose to the top. Some elements evaporated. This transformation created the Earth's layered core and mantle, crust, and atmosphere.
Even today the Earth undergoes constant change. Shifting, sliding, and colliding tectonic plates surf atop its semi-molten mantle. This relentless drifting speeds along at the rate of fingernail growth, yet causes mountains to rise, volcanoes to erupt, and earthquakes to strike.

  • Why the Solar System May Be Full of Life with NASA Chief Scientist Dr. James Green

    1:10:42

    Is life on Europa?
Did Mars have life? Does Mars currently have life on it?

NASA Chief Scientist Dr. Jim Green joins John Michael Godier to discuss NASA's plans for Mars 2020, the possibility of past and current life on Mars. As well as the fact that the solar system may be full of life as much of the moon's and Kuiper belt objects have large amounts of water on them. Does Europa have complex life? It has an ocean of water underneath it's surface more than the combined amount of water on Earth. The Europa Clipper mission will do its best to answer that. Also, how is NASA now searching for potential technosignatures?

Distances in the universe are really and truly mind-boggling. Even within our Solar System it takes light several hours to reach the outer planets. And it takes years and years to travel enormous distances between stars. The state-of-the-art spacecraft today would take tens of thousands of years to get to the star nearest to our system. It may appear that exploring new worlds in those parts will forever be confined to the realm of fantasy. But is it how it is to remain?

  • 5 Spacecraft Are Leaving The Solar System. What Did They See In Their Journey?

    5:31

Five spacecraft are leaving the solar system for good. Though we do not have the technology to land the first human on Mars, we have already accomplished the task of sending our robots into interstellar space.

Pioneer 10: Pioneer 10 was launched in 1972 to explore the planets of the solar system. It achieved the first flyby of Mars, the first trip through the asteroid belt, and Jupiter's first flyby. It was the first time NASA had used nuclear energy to power its spacecraft. So, after Pioneer 10 passed Jupiter in 1973, it still had ample energy to keep going. Initially planned for 21 months, it continued to communicate with Earth for a total of 30 years.

Pioneer 11: The twin spacecraft of Pioneer 10 saw similar success. It orbited Jupiter in 1974. Pioneer 11 became the first mission to ever encounter Saturn in 1979. It revealed what the ringed planet is made of and also discovered new moons of Saturn. Both these crafts are equipped with unique plaques designed to introduce their creators. NASA no longer receives signals from the Pioneer spacecraft.

Voyager 1: Voyager 1 is the farthest spacecraft from Earth and is still in contact with NASA. It was launched in 1977 during a rare planetary alignment that takes place every 175 years. Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune were perfectly placed. NASA took advantage of this alignment. Voyager 1 made its flyby of Jupiter in 1979 and passed by Saturn in 1980. But instead of continuing to Uranus and Neptune, the craft changed its route to explore Titan. It's the largest moon of Saturn, having a thick atmosphere and methane lakes. In 2012, Voyager 1 reached the heliopause, a region where Sun's solar wind loses its sway. It became the first spacecraft to enter interstellar space. It is still sending data back to Earth. Voyager 1 is so far that radio signals take about 21 hours to get there. Voyager 1's course could bring it close to another star in some 40,000 years.

Voyager 2: Voyager 2 was launched 15 days before its twin Voyager 1 in 1977. After exploring Jupiter and Saturn, Voyager 2 went on its planned trajectory. It became the first and the only probe to visit Uranus and Neptune to date. It entered interstellar space in 2018 and is still in contact with NASA.
Just like Pioneer, both spacecraft contain identical copies of golden records.

New Horizons: The most recent in the list, New Horizons was launched to explore Pluto. At Pluto, it found signs of ice volcanoes, giant mountains, and even a liquid water ocean. Now, New Horizons is continuing in the footsteps of the Pioneer and Voyager missions.

  • Scientists Discover a Bizarre Foreign World!

    11:21

Since 2016, scientists have suspected that there is another planet outside the known orbits of our solar system. Planet 9, or Planet X, as it is sometimes called, has been the subject of heated debate among astronomers ever since. Nobody has seen the mysterious ninth planet so far. Skeptics claim that this celestial body does not exist at all. But now, about 330 light-years away from our system, evidence for the possible existence of Planet 9 has emerged. In the double star system HD 106906, astronomers discovered a fascinating new world that they had not thought possible.

    14:15

Physicists claims that something deep in space is creating life on planets within our Solar System. Today, we take a look at the claims that something in space is creating life in our Solar System.

Space has truly earned its moniker as the final frontier. Stretching in all directions with rules of gravity and physics that do not apply on Earth, the possibilities for what might lie beyond our comprehension are endless.

Some things that occur are so strange that it seems that the only explanation is one that involves aliens and other life forms, but most are none other than marvels of science that have never been seen on our small planet.
