  • NZXT is Irresponsible & Dangerous: H1 Riser Fire Hazard Should Be Recalled

    33:38

    We believe the NZXT H1 case PCIe riser poses a long-term risk in the event metal screws find their way into them. NZXT needs to fix this beyond just plastic screws. Use code THISISFINE for 10% off a GN toolkit, mouse mat, or other items:

    NZXT RESPONDS:
    Watch part 1 here:

    Although some people have complained of the NZXT H1 overheating, others had more literal issues with overheating. In part 1, we showed how the NZXT H1 case's PCIe riser has the potential to cause a fire. This is something that NZXT itself formally stated at the end of November, but it's still rolling-out fixes now entering 3 months later. NZXT previously noted the US Consumer Product Safety Commission got involved and that the two parties settled on a nylon screw fix or repair kit for the NZXT H1s that are in the field. We're concerned that (1) a lot of people have voiced online, shown in this video, that they've been waiting multiple months for these simple nylon screws, and (2) this is not the root cause of the issue, which is the PCIe riser. If someone ever uses this riser again and out of context (whether they forgot why the nylon screws were there, never knew why, or bought it second-hand), it's possible that a fire will burn-up whatever GPU is plugged into it. The more connection cycles these PCIe risers go through, the more risk there is, by our testing.

  • Basically A Scam: PS5 Aftermarket Cooling Fans Blow the Wrong Way

    18:53

    These PlayStation 5 cooling fans & cooling base accessories literally do nothing, and even worse, they make the performance worse. We apply our strict thermal & noise tests to accessories.
    Sponsor: Buy the Corsair 4000D Airflow on Amazon (

    Console cooling fans are common aftermarket accessories for all generations of console, but this particular generation is interesting for another reason: The third-party cooling fan manufacturers jumped the gun, especially with low supply of the consoles, and we're not sure that they even tested their own devices. It's amazing that the cooling fans fit at all, but the ones we chose -- one of which has over *300* reviews on Amazon, mostly positive -- actually make things worse. The only thing going for these cooling fans is that we think the design is simply incompetent and likely isn't malicious -- but you could absolutely make an argument that selling a product without validating it has underlying ill intent.

  • PS5 vs. Xbox Series X Airflow Testing: Cooling Design Efficiency & Flow Paths

    29:29

    This video compares the PlayStation 5 vs. Xbox Series X airflow & cooler design using Schlieren photography, which allows us to visualize the air density gradient around the consoles.

    Xbox Series X thermals got done today and is being edited/rendered/QC'd, then will go up.
    Watch our original RTX 3080 FE Schlieren photography video:

    Schlieren photography is useful for visualizing air patterns and movement when the air density has a gradient -- or a change in density -- surrounding a product. This isn't a perfect testing method and doesn't tell us thermal performance (we use thermocouples for that, and the Series X thermals will be uploaded in a few days), but it does tell us how the air exits the consoles, how obstructed it might be, and what directions it takes. This also allows us to the opportunity to closer analyze the console's internal heatsink design: Even though we can't see the heatsink with this imaging, we can see how the air exits the device and at what angle, and speed, and all of these factors allow us to better understand the finstack impedance and angles. The Sony PlayStation 5 already had thermal testing in one of our previous pieces, with the Xbox Series X thermals coming up soon.

  • NZXT Responds to GNs H1 Case Fire Coverage: New PCIe Riser, Formal Recall, & Refunds

    28:05

    NZXT has responded to the NZXT H1 PCIe riser case fire and direct short from 12V to GND. The company has plans pertaining to PCIe risers, formal recalls, and its longer-term future.
    Sponsor: Buy Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut on Amazon ( or Hydronaut paste (

    NZXT has done a lot well here and deserves credit for it. At the same time, the severity of this issue can't be overlooked and it took a long time to get the correct actions. They're here now, though, so it's just a matter of roll-out for the formal recall, the PCIe riser replacements (launch date is March to April), refunds, and more. We were satisfied with the actions NZXT is now suggesting, but dissatisfied with some of its language and contradictions in the statement. This is definitely going in the right direction and we know it was hard to do for the company.

  • Exceeds Expectations: New Atari VCS Tear-Down & Ryzen-Powered Console

    29:00

    We're taking apart the brand new Atari VCS console from 2021 / 2020. The Atari VCS remake is a small gaming box with an AMD Ryzen SOC and, just maybe, some potential.
    Sponsor: Thermaltake Core P3 on Amazon (

    We'll be separately reviewing this Atari VCS to see whether it's worth it. The box is actually pretty interesting, as it can be customized with a new OS and is somewhat upgradeable by the user. It's a lot more than we expected under the shell -- but our expectations were that it'd house a Raspberry Pi-style PCB. In reality, the VCS has had a lot more effort go into it than we expected, so that's a good start. We'll have to test it and use it for the review to determine whether it makes any sense to buy, of course.

    When it comes to the epic Console Wars, there’s no room for failure. Every gaming company is trying to push their way into a crowded field in order to stand out and present products that gamers actually want to pay for. It’s not easy. The new Playstation 5, the Xbox Series X and the Nintendo Switch all dominate the marketplace. So with consoles like that on the market, what does Atari hope to do with their new Atari VCS console?

    Well, a lot actually! The long-delayed new console from one of the original pioneers of console gaming is finally on track to release in Spring of 2021 after a series of huge setbacks and delays. Now the question on everyone’s mind is whether taking the chance and buying one of these new consoles is actually worth it in the long run.

    Because on the surface the new console looks like it does come with some cool features that both embrace the nostalgia of their Atari 2600, while also pushing things forward to the modern age. Yes you’ll be able to access all the classic Atari games when you purchase it, but you can play them with either a redesigned classic wireless joystick, or a more updated handheld controller. The console also presents a unique element that can basically turn your Atari VCS into a mini-computer complete with its own Operating System. All those features at least make us interested, but at the end of the day, does it’s hefty price tag discourage gamers from actually buying it?

    Check out today’s video all about the Atari VCS. When you’re done, be sure to hit that big like and subscribe button for more awesome TheGamer content like this. So what are you waiting for! Go watch the video so I can go play Frogger online...

  • Atari VCS BIOS update 20: Disable secure boot & password search techniques I tried.

    18:10

    Episode 027 : The recent Atari VCS BIOS update to revision 20 changed (or disabled) accessing the BIOS Password with the one I previously exposed. In this video, I demonstrate how to disable (partially) the Secure Boot verification for booting unsigned operating systems (Lakka, Batocera, etc), show some of the techniques I used to try and find the password, discuss a risky but reported proven way to get into the setup tool, and lastly share my final thoughts of why I am moving on from the Atari VCS (for now).

    The Lenovo in the video is a ThinkCentre M720 Tiny
    Part Number: 10T700DJUS
    Specs are:
    * 9th Generation Intel® Core™ i5-9500T Processor with vPro™ (2.20 GHz, up to 3.70 GHz Turbo Boost, 6 Cores, 6 Threads, 9 MB Cache)
    * 8 GB DDR4 2666MHz
    * Integrated Intel® UHD Graphics 630
    * 256 GB PCIe SSD

  • So The Atari VCS Is Finally Here...

    17:20

    It's been two and a half years since I backed the Atari VCS on Indiegogo and after a bumpy development with many delays it is finally here. Today I wanted to check it out with an unboxing and initial impressions of the software with a teardown coming later on.

  • The Atari VCS Is Not For Me

    1:50

    I'm not particularly excited about the Atari VCS.

    To be fair, I'm not too excited with my video-work done here, either. Had some camera issues, script felt a little forced, maybe stepped too far out of my wheelhouse in general, but I felt like it was important for me to see it through and publish anyway for the sake of learning and getting feedback.

    Anyway, here are my concise, personally unenthusiastic thoughts about Atari's latest entry in the home console market, if you can call it that (honestly it's more of a microconsole).

    Tell us what you think in the comments.

    Launch:
    If all goes to plan, this should be a timed-exclusive launch title for the retail Atari VCS, when it hits the shelves.

    Game:
    You, Perdo, pilot an old heli which may not look airworthy, but its firepower is nothing short of mind-numbing. Just as well, since you are about to meet fierce opposition. Lacking funds and technological advances, the enemy knows no limits in creative weapon design, from heat seeking sheep missiles to coal powered tanks.

    After mowing down that unsuspecting scum, you’ll need to act fast before reinforcements arrive: Hook up any plutonium stocks or nukes to the chopper and make your way to the level exit, where Fernando will be waiting to assist with extraction. Then push on to the next zone

    This is easier said than done, since fuel consumption and steering will suffer with the added weight. Making good use of gas stations, power-ups and short cuts will be vital in succeeding in your mission to save the world.

  • Atari VCS- Installing Windows and Ubuntu on internal SSD

    24:29

    Coming to you once again from the isolation chamber/fallout shelter/dungeon of doom, we are back . For this video, I decided to do a step by step tutorial on how to install Windows 10, and Linux (Ubuntu) on the internal SSD of the Atari VCS, since it seems that there are still people out there who are having issues. Word of warning, following these steps will erase whatever you have on the M.2 SSD drive, so if there is anything important there, make sure to back it up. These are the steps that worked for me, of course YMMV. There may be better ways to do it than I am doing here, feel free to comment any suggestions below.
    One word of warning, the Win2USB option that I used (the free one) only works with Windows 10 Home edition, to use Windows 10 Pro you would have to upgrade to the paid version, otherwise you may be able to use Rufus to create the drive (which is free). It didn't affect me as I have a spare windows 10 home key (that I need to find LOL), though I suppose you could install home initially, and then upgrade to Pro once it is installed.

  • RIP BATTLE: Modded RTX 3090 Overclock & Optimus Water Blocks

    35:03

    We're preparing to RIPJAY, but first, we need to get past Paul. We've leapt far up the Port Royal hall of fame with just water, not even chilled, and some hardmods for our EVGA 3090 FTW3 cards.
    Sponsor: Get 10% off Squarespace purchases (

    As a reminder, our objective in this overclocking battle series is always to try and advance ourselves and learn. In this episode of our RIPJAY (JayzTwoCents) and RIPPAUL (Paul's Hardware) challenge, we're trying to learn more about hard modding GPUs, starting with shunt modding an EVGA RTX 3090 FTW3 (specifically, learning more about soldering on these boards). We may venture into more hard mods following that. We're using Optimus Cooling water blocks for the cooling, and as discussed in the video, they're some of the best blocks we've ever tested. The blocks are made in Chicago and these are early prototypes, so we didn't get any instructions or pre-cut thermal pads for ours, but that's not a problem for us. The final version will include both of those things, however.

    Star Citizen is an Open Development Alpha Project by Cloud Imperium. It is 2 Games really though, the Persistent Universe that aims to build a First Person MMO Space Sim that encompasses gameplay in ship & on ground, economy and pretty much anything else you can think of. It's built in the StarEngine (a modified Lumberyard Engine). You'll see massive Space Ships that you can fly with friends, land on planets, explore or whatever your way to whatever goal you choose. It's available to try in it's current Alpha State now, you can give feedback & influence the direction of the game BUT it is VERY ALPHA.
    Squadron 42 is the Single Player Campaign of Star Citizen & the Spiritual Successor of Wing Commander. The Idea is the game is immersive, cinematic, beautiful & seamless... NO LOADING SCREENS once in game.
    Both Games are currently in the Alpha of their development.
    I am suspecting to see something more mainstream for Star Citizen's PU by the end of 2022 with permanent progression, though it will be a while after that before the game is considered feature complete which would be closer to 2025 in my opinion.
    Squadron 42 will not be released before 2022.

    I am an Independent Content Creator & Star Citizen Fan. I am not paid by Cloud Imperium HOWEVER I am an Evocati Member and as such I am under an NDA for Closed Early Patch Tests of Star Citizen', known as the Evocati Test Flight (ETF). They occasionally offer me ships for giveaways too, which I will take if they are truely NO STRINGS ATTACHED.
    GameGlass, Shadow & NordVPN referrals give me a small kickback, however I am not paid by them for any specific videos or promotion. Unless Otherwise Stated.

Any advertisements or sponsorships are disclosed within the video (this video is brought to you by) and above the fold in the description. We do not ever produce paid content or sponsored content (meaning that the content is our idea and is not funded externally aside from whatever ad placement is in the beginning) and we do not ever charge manufacturers for coverage.
