  • Universe: Beyond the Millennium - Alien Life

    50:15

Universe: Beyond the Millennium is a television series observing astronomical phenomena, research, and theories on the universe and its origins.

    Narrated by John Hurt.

The documentary premiered in 1999 and presents an overview of the universe as humans understood it at that time, and how we think it will evolve in the next millennium. Using 3D computer generated graphics, the series features animated sequences that offer insight into the Big Bang theory and the anatomy of the sun.

Alien Life, when NASA scientists found a lump of rock from Mars with microscopic fossils in it, the search for extraterrestrial life beyond our own became a credible objective. Researchers and scientists from SETI (Search for Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence) have spent decades trying to determine how an alien life force would contact us and if one does, how we would reply.

At the start of a new millennium we're about to embark on the greatest adventure of all time. Five hundred million miles from Earth, a spacecraft will land on Jupiter's icy moon, Europa. It's mission, to search for alien life. As we reach out across the galaxy, our spacecraft will explore the most extreme environments to answer the ultimate question, are we alone?

  • Saturns Moon Titan: Another Earth? - Documentary HD

    50:28

Alien life, Saturn's Moon Titan: Another Earth?
Saturn’s largest moon Titan is an extraordinary and exceptional world. Among our solar system’s more than 150 known moons, Titan is the only one with a substantial atmosphere. And of all the places in the solar system, Titan is the only place besides Earth known to have liquids in the form of rivers, lakes, and seas on its surface.
Titan is larger than the planet Mercury and is the second-largest moon in our solar system. Jupiter's moon Ganymede is just a little bit larger (by about 2 percent). Titan’s atmosphere is made mostly of nitrogen, like Earth’s, but with a surface pressure 50 percent higher than Earth’s. Titan has clouds, rain, rivers, lakes and seas of liquid hydrocarbons like methane and ethane. The largest seas are hundreds of feet deep and hundreds of miles wide. Beneath Titan’s thick crust of water, ice is more liquid—an ocean primarily of water rather than methane. Titan’s subsurface water could be a place to harbor life as we know it, while it's surface lakes and seas of liquid hydrocarbons could conceivably harbor life that uses different chemistry than we’re used to—that is, life as we don’t yet know it. Titan could also be a lifeless world.
    Did You Know?
As exotic as Titan might sound, in some ways it’s one of the most hospitable worlds in the solar system. Titan’s nitrogen atmosphere is so dense that a human wouldn’t need a pressure suit to walk around on the surface. He or she would, however, need an oxygen mask and protection against the cold—temperatures at Titan’s surface are around minus 290 degrees Fahrenheit (minus 179 Celsius).

Titan’s dense atmosphere, as well as gravity roughly equivalent to Earth’s Moon, mean that a raindrop falling through Titan’s sky would fall more slowly than on Earth. While Earth rain falls at about 20 miles per hour (9.2 meters per second), scientists have calculated that rain on Titan falls at about 3.5 miles per hour (1.6 meters per second), or about six times more slowly than Earth’s rain. Titan’s raindrops can also be pretty large. The maximum diameter of Earth raindrops is about 0.25 inches (6.5 millimeters) while raindrops on Titan can reach diameters of 0.37 inches (9.5 millimeters), or about 50 percent larger than an Earth raindrop.
    Pop Culture
Titan was famously featured in the 2009 film “Star Trek”—the U.S.S. Enterprise comes out of warp in Titan’s atmosphere in order to sneak up on the Romulan ship attacking Earth. Titan also appeared in the film “Star Trek Nemesis,” as well as an episode of “Star Trek: The Next Generation.” Several other television shows and films feature Titan, such as the film “Gattaca,” and the shows “Futurama” and “Eureka,” as well as the iconic anime series “Cowboy Bebop.” Dozens of video games also feature Titan, as do several comics from Marvel and DC, among others.

Titan has been a setting or subject in dozens of short stories and novels by giants of science fiction including Arthur C. Clarke, Philip K. Dick, and Isaac Asimov, as well as legendary “Star Trek” actress Nichelle Nichols. Even literary greats such as Kurt Vonnegut have included Titan in their fiction.

  • 15 Strongest Signs Of Aliens & Alien Life

    20:49

Ever since the very first-time man looked up at the stars we have wondered: is there life out there? Given the sheer size of the cosmos and the fact the primary ingredients of life, such as carbon, are in such abundance- it seems far more likely there are aliens out there than not And while we don’t yet have hard evidence, each and every day there are more signs that making the denial of extra-terrestrial life the less sensible opinion. These are the strongest signs of aliens and alien life!

  • Extraterrestrial Life in Our Solar System | Documentary | National Geographic

    1:5:39

If we discovered evidence of alien life, would we even realize it? Life on other planets could be so different from what we're used to that we might not recognize any biological signatures that it produces.

Recent years have seen changes to our theories about what counts as a biosignature and which planets might be habitable, and further turnarounds are inevitable. But the best we can really do is interpret the data we have with our current best theory, not with some future idea we haven't had yet.

This is a big issue for those involved in the search for extraterrestrial life. As Scott Gaudi of Nasa's Advisory Council has said: One thing I am quite sure of, now having spent more than 20 years in this field of exoplanets … expect the unexpected.

But is it really possible to expect the unexpected? Plenty of breakthroughs happen by accident, from the discovery of penicillin to the discovery of the cosmic microwave background radiation leftover from the Big Bang. These often reflect a degree of luck on behalf of the researchers involved. When it comes to alien life, is it enough for scientists to assume we'll know it when we see it?

Many results seem to tell us that expecting the unexpected is extraordinarily difficult. We often miss what we don't expect to see, according to cognitive psychologist Daniel Simons, famous for his work on inattentional blindness. His experiments have shown how people can miss a gorilla banging its chest in front of their eyes. Similar experiments also show how blind we are to non-standard playing cards such as a black four of hearts. In the former case, we miss the gorilla if our attention is sufficiently occupied. In the latter, we miss the anomaly because we have strong prior expectations.

There are also plenty of relevant examples in the history of science. Philosophers describe this sort of phenomenon as theory-ladenness of observation. What we notice depends, quite heavily sometimes, on our theories, concepts, background beliefs, and prior expectations. Even more commonly, what we take to be significant can be biased in this way.

For example, when scientists first found evidence of low amounts of ozone in the atmosphere above Antarctica, they initially dismissed it as bad data. With no prior theoretical reason to expect a hole, the scientists ruled it out in advance. Thankfully, they were minded to double-check, and the discovery was made.

    1:22

Introducing Dragonfly: our next New Frontiers Mission! Making multiple flights, the Dragonfly dual-quadcopter will explore a variety of locations on Saturn's moon Titan. Titan is an analog to the very early Earth, and can provide clues to how life may have arisen on our planet.

In under an hour, Dragonfly will cover tens of miles or kilometers, farther than any planetary rover has traveled. With one hop per full Titan day (16 Earth days), the rotorcraft will travel from its initial landing site to cover areas several hundred kilometers away during the planned two-year mission. Despite its unique ability to fly, Dragonfly would spend most of its time on Titan's surface making science measurements.

Aliens! Could humans really be alone in this expansive universe? And if we're not, how come we've never made contact with other intelligent life? Everyone's thought about it; especially members of the scientific community. Join Gabe as he presents some of the most popular theories that scientists use to rationalize their support or skepticism of the existence of aliens. We may never know the answer to this age old question, but a little scientific thinking never hurt anybody!

  • Scientists find more evidence Saturns ocean moon maybe home to aliens - TomoNews

    4:59

ENCELADUS, SATURN — Scientists looking at data pulled from NASA's Cassini spacecraft may have found out how Saturn's ocean moon Enceladus remains geologically active.

The research, published in Nature Astronomy, suggests that tidal currents flow through the moon's porous core, where the friction between rocks generate heat that warms the ocean. According to the European Space Agency, this tidal heating is primarily caused by the gravitational pull of Saturn.

Writing in 2008, the space agency speculated that the deep sea vent theory could apply to life on Enceladus. When applied to Earth, this suggests life originated from chemical, heat and tidal interactions beneath the seabed.

NASA previously said Enceladus has all the ingredients for life, reported CNET, citing the space agency.

  • ANOTHER EARTH: Alien Planet - Space Documentary HD

    2:36:57

We Are Not Alone In The Universe
I cannot imagine any single discovery that would have more impact on humanity than the discovery of life outside of our solar system. There is a human-centric, Earth-centric view of life that permeates most cultural and societal thinking. Finding that there are multiple, perhaps millions of origins of life and that life is ubiquitous throughout the universe will profoundly affect every human.

We live on a microbial planet. There are one million microbial cells per cubic centimeter of water in our oceans, lakes and rivers; deep within the Earth's crust and throughout our atmosphere. We have more than 100 trillion microbes on and in each of us. The Earth's diversity of life would have seemed like science fiction to our ancestors. We have microbes that can withstand millions of Rads of ionizing radiation; such strong acid or base that it would dissolve our skin; microbes that grow in ice and microbes that grow and thrive at temperatures exceeding 100 degrees C. We have life that lives on carbon dioxide, on methane, on sulfur, or on sugar. We have sent trillions of bacteria into space over the last few billion years and we have exchanged material with Mars on a constant basis, so it would be very surprising if we do not find evidence of microbial life in our solar system, particularly on Mars.

The recent discoveries by Dimitar Sasselov and colleagues of numerous Earth and super-Earth-like planets outside our solar system, including water worlds, greatly increases the probability of finding life. Sasselov estimates approximately 100,000 Earth and super-Earths within our own galaxy. The universe is young so wherever we find microbial life there will be intelligent life in the future.

Expanding our scientific reach further into the skies will change us forever.

    7:20

Click that bell Icon if you enjoyed!

In this video, we want to get thinking about life here on Earth, all of which is carbon-based. Silicon, like carbon is simple, lightweight and is structured in a way that leaves us questioning if life could form from it. Life is just complex chemistry and after carbon, silicon has been proposed to be the most likely candidate for the basis of life. could it be possible? on Earth? on other worlds? What do you think?

The Universe is immensely HUGE. Do you think we are the only life that is possible, or out there? My goal is to make you think about this in this video. I hope I've earned your likes, shares and subscription!

The US space agency NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory released shocking details of exoplanet horrors. An exoplanet or extrasolar planet is a planet outside the Solar System. Kepler-70b is an exoplanet discovered orbiting the subdwarf B star Kepler-70. It is also the hottest known exoplanet as of mid-2017, with a surface temperature of several thousand Kelvin. In a blog post, NASA wrote: “Kepler-70b (a.k.a. KOI-55) could well be another circle of hell with an average temperature hotter than the Sun’s surface.“It used to be Jupiter-sized until it spent some time inside its now-dead star.“This is a trip that destroys most planets, but left this one a Freddy Krueger-like burned world smaller than Earth.“At about 12,000 degrees F (6,800 C), it is one of the hottest planets discovered.”READ MORE: WATCH: Meteorites captured flaming across the skyIt added: “In fact, the planet itself is evaporating, soon to be another victim.”HD 189733 b is another extrasolar planet, approximately 64.5 light-years away from the Solar System in the constellation of Vulpecula. The planet was discovered orbiting the star HD 189733 A on October 5, 2005, when astronomers in France observed the planet transiting across the face of the star. • Dragonfly: A Titan Expedition of Exploration

    1:20

Dragonfly is a proposed mission concept to send a rotorcraft-lander to Saturn’s large, exotic moon, Titan. Designed to sample surface materials and determine composition in different settings, this revolutionary mission concept offers the capability to explore diverse locations and characterize the habitability of Titan’s environment, investigate the progression of prebiotic chemistry, and even to search for chemical hints of water-based or hydrocarbon-based life.

The Dragonfly dual-quadcopter would fly to dozens of sites, tens to hundreds of miles apart. Titan’s dense, calm atmosphere and low gravity make flying ideal; the rotorcraft could travel from its initial landing site to explore areas several hundred miles away, though Dragonfly would spend most of its mission making science measurements on the ground.

Led by the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory, Dragonfly is a finalist to become the next mission in NASA’s New Frontiers planetary science program. Key partners include Penn State University, NASA (Goddard Space Flight Center, Ames Research Center, Langley Research Center, Jet Propulsion Laboratory), Honeybee Robotics and Malin Space Science Systems. New Frontiers is managed by the Planetary Missions Program Office at NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama, for the agency’s Planetary Science Division in Washington.
