Son Doong cave was classified as the largest cave in the world by BCRA (British Cave Research Association) and selected as one of the most beautiful in the globe by the BBC news.

  • Worlds biggest cave discovered in Vietnam!! Hang Son Doong Cave

    49:43

Hang Son Doong - Son Trach commune in Bo Trach district, Quang Binh province - is the largest natural caves in the world. This cave is located in the caves of Phong Nha-Ke Bang. Hang is part of the underground system connected to more than 150 different activities in Vietnam, located near the border with Laos
Limestone mountains Vietnam-Laos border region has many caves, such as the Phong Nha has been known for a long but Son Doong cave has been discovered only in 1991 when Ho Khanh, a local people stumbled out into the isolated store to avoid the rain. By some time in 2006 when the expedition Association Royal cave to this area, the Ho Khanh new poll to tell them. [4] it's really hard for his new find their store which is located deep in the jungle with quite dangerous terrain, away from major roads and can not be found on Google Earth. Under his guidance, they went deep into caves, photography, surveying and collecting scientific data. They also spent a great honor for this cave named Ho Khanh.
April 22, 2009, the delegation Association Royal Cave Limbirt led by Howard announced the cave and found that the size of Son Doong cave is actually the world's largest.
In January 2010, the explorers returned to Son Doong to learn more about the cave system
Hang Son Doong is formed about 2-5 million years ago, when river water flows through the limestone was buried along a fault line. Water erosion and curettage as a giant tunnel under the mountains in the earth. In the soft places, the ceiling collapsed forming holes, hang long into the giant arch.
Hang a width of 200 meters, 150 meters higher, at least 6.5 km long. The length can be still further, but due to technical limitations, the explorer of the Association Royal cave can not go all the depth of the cave to determine how long customers.
With such dimensions, Son Doong cave has passed Deer Cave in Gunung Mulu National Park of Malaysia (with a height of 100 m, width 90 m, length 2 km) to occupy the cave is the world's largest natural
Also in some the Son Doong cave has great size to 140 mx 140 m, including stone columns as high as 14 m. A stunning images by photographer Carsten Peter taken in May 2010 noted that the row width of about 91.44 m, 243.84 m-high roof of the cave - can reach a high building contains 40 floors of New York city (USA).
In caves the researchers found a 2.5 km long underground river and has a high stone columns up to 70 m.

  • Son Doong Cave- The ultimate discovery in Vietnam

    1:28

Hang Son Doong Cave (Mountian River Cave), the largest cave in the world, is located right in the heart of Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park in the Quang Binh province of Vietnam. It was formed during the Cambrian-Permian geological eras, putting it at a date between 400–450 million years old. No words can do justice to the size of this UNESCO protected cave—it stretches for over three miles (five kilometers), and it reaches heights of 650 feet (200 meters). The main cavern is large enough to house an entire New York City block.

To reach Hang Son Doong, you need to pass through the only village located inside the Phong Nha Ke-Bang National Park. The Ban Doong ethnic minority village is only accessible by foot, as it is surrounded by dense jungles. The village is home to less than 40 people, and their hardships have been alleviated by the discovery of the cave and the subsequent conservation partnership with Oxalis. Exploring this village and interacting with the locals is also an exciting part of the journey, as there is a lot you can learn. The village offers a view of a way of life that has been unchanged for centuries.

Then you will continue on your journey to Hang Son Doong Cave, and it is not easy. There will be two days of intense jungle trekking and river crossings in order to reach the entrance. Once inside, you will have to abseil, climb, crawl, and swim through underground rivers to complete your journey. Making it even more beautiful is that you will get to camp inside the cave, eat, take extraordinary photos, and laugh along with your crew. Hang En, the world’s third largest cave is also included in the tour.

Only 10 guests per departure are allowed, and each one is perfectly cared for. Your group will include two caving experts, three local guides, two chefs, two park rangers, and 20 porters that will help carry your belongings and other luggage such as tents. Everyone’s safety is ensured, as is the preservation of the cave. Tours run once per week each year, between February and August.

All of these are spectacular and visiting them is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. If there is ever a time in your life that you want to splurge, this should be it. Forget the fancy beach resorts you can find anywhere else in the world. Son Doong cave is unrivaled.

    #10 Movile Cave
In 1986, a cave was Discovered near Mangalia, Constanța County, Romania, just off the coast of the Black Sea. The oxygen levels are nearly negligent, but due to chemosynthesis, At least forty-eight species of wildlife has been stored away for possible millions of years. Many of these animals are unique to this specific cave.
The cave is unsafe for humans and most animals. It is completely Void of light and contains toxic gasses that the specialized animals within the cave require to live. Less than 100 people have been allowed in the cave, and to get to the entrance you have to be Lowered 65ft into the ground through a narrow passage.
Microbiologist, Rich Boden was one of the first to enter the cave and one of the few to see the lake below, “The pool of warm, sulphidic water stinks of rotting eggs or burnt rubber when you disturb it as hydrogen sulphide is given off.”
The animals that live in Movile Cave are Generally born without eyes or skin pigment, due to the fact that they live in the darkness and don’t need sight or camouflage.
As for humans, if you go in without a special mask it wouldn’t be long before the lack of oxygen and toxic gasses took their toll. It would Begin with labored breathing and a headache, followed by kidney damage…and the rest, well; no one has ever gotten that far.
    #9 Lake Vostok
Out of over 400 lakes in Antarctica only one can be the largest, and the title goes to Lake Vostok. The lake is at the southern Pole of Cold, beneath Russia's Vostok Station. It resides Far beneath the surface of the central East Antarctic Ice Sheet, which is 11,000ft above sea level. This freshwater lake’s surface is about 13,000ft under the surface of the ice, meaning it would be less than 2000ft below sea level.
The lake has Supposedly been untouched for at least 400,000 years, and it wasn’t until 2012 that scientists completed the longest ever ice core that reached 12,400ft and finally pierced through to the surface of the lake. However, as soon as this happened, Water from the lake gushed up the borehole used to extract the water, and mixed with Freon and kerosene that was used to keep the hole from freezing. In 2015, teams tried again and were successful in retrieving a pure sample. Still, Humans have only touched the surface of this lost world and it is believed that new, unseen creatures could dwell in Lake Vostok. The question is…will humans ever reach them?
    #8 Son Doong Cave
Son Doong Cave, or known in Vietnam as Hang Sơn Đoòng is a Solutional cave in Phong Nha-Kẻ Bàng National Park, Vietnam. Son Doong Cave is often called the largest cave in the world. It was discovered by a local man named Hồ Khanh in 1991. People from the area knew about the cave, but the steep descent at the entrance as well as the loud sound of the wind and water rushing through the cave, prevented locals from entering. Of course, everyone thought it was spooky! It wasn’t until 2009 that the cave was shared with the world when British Cave Research Association conducted a survey nearby. Unfortunately, their progress was stopped when they ran into a 200 ft calcite wall known as the Great Wall of Vietnam.
In 2013, Some of the largest cave pearls known to man were discovered, some reaching the size of a baseball! Later on, in 2013, the first tourist group explored the cave. The tickets to join this exploration cost a whopping $3,000. Permits are required to access the cave and are given out on a limited basis. Only about 800 are available in 2017 and only through August. During the Fall and Winter months, the water levels are so high that the cave is inaccessible.
#7 Sima Humboldt & Sima Martel
Cerro Sarisariñama is a Tepui or flattop mountain range in Jaua-Sarisariñama National Park. Located in Venezuela. The name of the mountain is derived from the tale of Ye'kuana Indians who live near the mountain. They tell a Tale about an evil spirit living in caves up in the mountain and devouring human flesh with a sound Sari... sari...” (Some sort of windy sound effect?)
On this mountain there are two mysterious sinkholes known as Sima Humboldt & Sima Martel. The larger of the two is Sima Humboldt is over 1000ft deep and over 1000ft wide. The bottom of each hole has its very own individual ecosystem. It was first descended in 1974 and as of today, is exclusive for scientific researchers.

It’s been on my bucket list for the last three years to explore the worlds largest cave, Son Doing in Vietnam. February 2020 Kendall and I took one of the most remarkable trips of our life. This was a five day expedition lead by Oxalis Adventure in Vietnam’s Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park.

  • World surprise by Son Doong Cave on Good Morning America - ABC News

    9:06

A six-minute video posted on YouTube has showed the journey of Good Morning America’s film crew inside an extraordinary cave deep inside a jungle of the central province of Quang Binh.
The scenes were shot from the Son Doong (Mountain River) Cave in Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park and were broadcast to American viewers on Wednesday in the popular morning program on ABC.
The crew used seven Phantom 3 drone cameras to get aerial shots of the magnificent cave.
Ginger Zee, the host of the live broadcast, said the journey to Son Doong was the grittiest, most difficult and dangerous assignment she had ever been on.

    The Mysterious Son Doong Cave

Son Doong Cave is one of the mysterious caves in the world and is the heart of the Phong Nha Ke Bang National Park, located at Son Trach village Quang Binh province of Central Vietnam.in Southeast Asia, close to the border of Laos. Son Doong Cave is located in a section of the Phong Nha-Kẻ Bàng National Park, which was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2003. Son Doong Cave is situated below another cave in Phong Nha-Ke Bang, though its entry passage is extremely difficult to traverse. There is a large amount of fast flowing water inside Son Doong. the explorers will spend at least 6 hours trekking through a 10-kilometer long forest path from Truong Son to reach the mouth of Son Doong Cave and prepare to explore the biggest cave in the world. it has very deep and has a huge lake inside. The explorers only measured the depth of the lake, but they had about 200m of rope, and in the end of this rope did not reach its bottom. Misty clouds envelop the whole scene, a result of the cave’s own localized weather system. Passages adorned with ancient fossils offer evidence of the millions of years that have passed on this Earth.
The Son Doong Cave entrance was discovered in the early 1990s by a local Vietnamese named Ho Khanh, Son Doong cave was discovered by a farmer named Ho Khanh in 1991. According to Ho Khanh, he was finding agarwood in the forest at that time.He met a heavy rain forest while finding agarwood. Ho Khanh decided to look for shelter because he was afraid of flash flood. Coincidentally, the rain shelter that he stood was right at Son Doong cave. At the time discovered Son Doong cave, Ho Khanh didn’t know about the cave value. Not long after his trip, he quit finding agarwood and went back to farming.
however the cave remained untouched and hidden for many more years, due to its relatively inaccessible location. 15 years later, the whereabouts of this cave was still in the dark. Untill 2006, when an expedition of the British Royal Association went to search for new caves in Phong Nha – Ke Bang, Khanh told his story about the cave to them. That was when the journey looking for the old cave started. The entrance to Son Doong Cave was rediscovered in 2008, again by Ho Khanh, and it wasn’t until 2009 that it was first explored, with Ho Khanh’s assistance and a team of cave experts and scientists, as steep inclines and intimidating sounds caused by the hidden river, would’ve deterred locals. The size of Son Doong cave is very large with a length of at least 5 kilometers, which is equivalent to the capacity of about 68 Boeing 777 airplanes.
Even this figure may be larger because according to scientists, the most modern facilities of today have not fully explore the real length of this cave.
In the Son Doong cave, the experts discovered the enormous size positions. A picture taken by photographer Peter Carten on May, 2010 recorded the cave part with the width of 91,44 meters and the high arch of nearly 243,84 meters – absolutely “stuffs” enough a 40-storey tall building in New York.
National Geographic website even compares that cave is far high enough to stack 25 double-decker buses in. The majestic and monumental landscape of Son Doong cave makes the world honor it as “The Great Wall of Vietnam”.
In the Son Doong cave, explorers discover a primitive forests with abundant vegetation, there has never been human traces. Experts have even called the forest in this cave as “The Garden of heaven” to honor this breathtaking beauty. Another special thing of Son Doong cave is the system of stalactites and giant cave pearl. Over millions of years under the influence of external forces, Son Doong owns the 70-meter high stalagmite column. It is also found these cave pearls (alabasters wrap pearl-like seeds of the sea, the main component is calcite), which are biggest in the world. Typically, this type of “pearl” only has a diameter of about 1 centimeter, but in Son Doong cave, it is as big as a baseball. In addition, some sections inside Son Doong cave have size 140m x 140m, including 14m – high stone columns. Photographer Carsten Peter has ever taken a spectacular photograph of a section of the cave with its width of about 91.44m and its 243.8m – high arch cave, which means it can accommodate a high building containing 40 floors inside. Centre Vietnam tours packages. The first tourists to explore Son Doong Cave did so in late 2013, spending $3,000 USD per person, while only 500 permits to enter the cave were given out in 2015.

  • SON DOONG CAVE: NEW DISCOVERY

    5:14

New underground tunnel has been discovered in the world’s largest cave Son Doong in Quang Binh Province.
The tunnel is far below sea level and is the latest of Son Doong’s secrets to be disclosed.
The discovery was made by a team including the heroic British divers Richard Stanton, John Volanthen, Jason Mallison and Chris Jewell, who were members of the rescue team saving the Thai football team trapped in Thailand's Tham Luang Cave last year.

this expedition was to find out the connection between Son Doong Cave and Hang Thung Cave which are 600 metres apart.

However, when failing to conduct a dive to the depth of 77 metres, diving expert Jason Mallinson, an expedition team member, found the new cave system while the depth of the cave tended to extend.

The expedition may inspire cave experts with various potential and new discoveries awaiting. In the meantime, Phong Nha - Ke Bang remains as a mystery to explorers, researchers and scientists.

The new cave system is the third level of Son Doong Cave apart from the known high dry level and the underground river level.

Cave diving expert Jason stated that his team will return to Son Doong in the near future with better diving equipment to further explore this mystery.

Son Doong Cave is located in the heart of the Phong Nha Ke Bang National Park in Quang Binh province of Central Vietnam.

At over 5 kilometre long, with sections reaching up to 200 metre tall and 150 metre wide, Son Doong Cave is large enough to house an entire New York City block, complete with 40 storey skyscrapers.

With a total measured volume of 38.5 million cubic metres, this comfortably surpasses Deer Cave in Malaysia, which was considered to be the previous record holder.

  • The Cave with Its Own Ecosystem

    3:31

    SUPPORT CR on PATREON:

Near the Laos-Vietnam border, just beneath the ground, there sits a subterranean paradise larger than anything else like it in the world.

The Son Doong Cave is the largest known cave by cross-section in the entire world – it's a place like you've never seen before. The cave contains its own flowing river, its own jungle, its own ecosystem, and is home to a treasure trove of mysteries. It's also believed to be between 2 and 5 million years old.

In 1991, a local man name Ho Khanh found the cave on a hike, but due to the steep entrances to this subterranean paradise, locals and visitors didn't brave making the journey.

In 2009, a group of cavers from the British Cave Research Association finally conducted a survey of the cave and discover its vast subterranean reaches. It was on this journey that the world became aware of how monstrously large this cave actually was.

  • Hang Son Doong cave is Worlds largest - discovered in 2009

    6:04

Sơn Đoòng cave (Vietnamese: hang Sơn Đoòng, IPA: [haːŋ˧ ʂəːn˧ ɗɔ̤ŋ˨˩]) is the world's largest natural cave, in Phong Nha-Kẻ Bàng National Park, Bố Trạch District, Quảng Bình Province, Vietnam.

Located near the Laos–Vietnam border, Hang Sơn Đoòng has an internal, fast-flowing subterranean river and the largest cross-section of any cave, worldwide, as of 2009, believed to be twice that of the next largest passage. It is the largest known cave passage in the world by volume.

Its name, Hang Sơn Đoòng, is variously translated from Vietnamese as 'cave of the mountain river] or 'cave of mountains behind Đoòng [village]'.[disputed – discuss]

As a solutional cave, it was formed in soluble limestone and is believed to be between 2 and 5 million years old.

The entrance to Hang Sơn Đoòng was found in 1991 by a local man named Hồ Khanh, while searching for aloe, a valuable timber. The whistling sound of wind and the roar of a rushing stream issuing from the cave, heard through the entrance, as well as the steep descent, discouraged Hồ Khanh from entering the cave.

Only in 2009 did the cave become internationally known after a group of cavers from the British Cave Research Association, conducted a survey in Phong Nha-Kẻ Bàng from 10 to 14 April 2009.[3] Their progress was stopped by a large, 60-metre (200 ft) high flowstone-coated wall, which was named the Great Wall of Vietnam. It was traversed in 2010 when the group reached the end of the cave passage.

Formed in Carboniferous/Permian limestone, the main Sơn Đoòng cave passage is the largest known cave passage in the world by volume – 38.4×106 cubic metres (1.36×109 cu ft), according to Howard Limbert. It is more than 5 kilometres (3.1 mi) long, 200 metres (660 ft) high and 150 metres (490 ft) wide. Its cross-section is believed to be twice that of the next largest passage, in Deer Cave, Malaysia.[8][9] The cave runs for approximately 9 kilometres (5.6 mi) and is punctuated by 2 large dolines, which are areas where the ceiling of the cave has collapsed. The dolines allow sunlight to enter sections of the cave, resulting in the growth of trees as well as other vegetation.

By mid-2019, it became clear that the cave is connected by its underground river with a nearby cave called Hang Thung. This increases the effective volume of the cave by more than 1.6 million cubic metres.

The cave contains some of the tallest known stalagmites in the world, which are up to 70 m tall. Behind the Great Wall of Vietnam were found cave pearls the size of baseballs, an abnormally large size.

The scale of the site's interior is so massive it could fit an entire New York block inside, including skyscrapers, or have a Boeing 747 comfortably fly through without its wings being in any danger.

  • Why SaveSonDoong is larger than just about a cave? | Lê Nguyễn Thiên Hương | TEDxHanoi

    14:35

SaveSonDoong was founded as a campaign to save the pristine charm of the world's largest cave from mass tourism. But overtime, this citizen-led campaign started to carry more just the mission of saving one cave. In this talk, Lê Nguyễn Thiên Hương, one of the co-founders of SaveSonDoong will reveal to you what its ultimate goal is actually about. Lê Nguyễn Thiên Hương is an educator by day and an environmental activist by night. She has been working in the field of education for a decade at different roles - a tutor, a teaching assistant, a teacher, a counselor, an admissions officer, etc. On the other hand, traveling has always been a big part of her life. And her expedition to Sơn Đoòng in 2014 has marked a big turning point for her. At the time, Hương was in the process of applying to graduate school for the major of Educational Psychology. But what she found out at Sơn Đoòng has changed her direction completely. Her SaveSonDoong campaign earned her a scholarship to Brandeis University, where she did two Master degrees in Nonprofit Management and Sustainable Development. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at

  • Journey Deep Into Son Doong Cave | Son Doong Cave Expedition

    15:42

Entering Son Doong cave we descend into darkness. It’s truly incredible! So incredible that all I can hear is my childhood hero David Attenborough’s voice narrating our journey. Progressing to Son Doong Camp 1, my friend Matt, the team and I cross interior rivers and see spectacular hollowed out cathedral canyons.

The Son Doong Cave in Vitenam - Worlds Biggest Cave 2014 HD 1080p

The Son Doong Cave in Vietnam is the biggest cave in the world. It's over 5.5 miles long, has a jungle and river, and could fit a 40-story skyscraper within its walls.

But nobody knew any of that until four years ago.

A local man discovered the cave entrance in 1991, but British cavers were the first to explore it in 2009. Now, tour company Oxalis is running trial tours of the cave and accepting sign-ups for real six-day tours to take place next year.

The man who discovered Son Doong didn't go in because the entrance he found had too steep a drop. On next year's tours, visitors will rappel 80 meters to enter Son Doong.
