  • Doctor Tips for Covid Home Recovery

    15:07

    I'm a board-certified ObGyn and was diagnosed with COVID-19 and sent home to get well. I realized there is a large gap in the information we give for patients recovering at home and wanted to fill in some of the questions I had by interviewing @Medicine Deconstructed with Cedric Jamie Rutland MD - a pulmonary critical care doctor in Southern California.

    Questions answered in this video:
    When should you go to the hospital/clinic?
    What should you watch for?
    How long should you quarantine?
    What's the advice on over-the-counter meds?
    When can I start exercising again?

    07:59 Warning Signs
    08:44 Guidance for Kids
    09:41 Who To Call
    10:55 Medication Guidance
    12:00 Quarantine Length

  • 10 Top Tips for Recovering from Coronavirus | The Lessons From 9 Months of Long Covid Studies

    11:53

    If you're still trying to recover from a Covid-19 infection, these top tips might just speed up that process - these are the lessons learnt from 10 months of studies into the virus, the long tail of symptoms and what might be causing them. They might even be able to stop you going on to develop Long Covid in the first place.

    Wondering who I am and why I'm making these films? I talk about it here:

    IMPORTANT: It is ESSENTIAL to talk to your doctor before taking any supplements that you have not taken before, or begin taking them at a larger dose. This regimen is NOT appropriate for children so they should speak to their doctor before taking any of these.

    Nicotinic acid / Niacin also has several strong contraindications, they can be seen here:

    I have to be clear and say that I am not a doctor, nor am I personally advocating you take Niacin or any other supplement or medication mentioned in this film. This is a decision you must make yourself with the consultation of your GP if you have any concerns at all.

    So, all that said - here is what I am currently taking.

    Niacin: I started at a low dose (10-20mg)/ be careful of flushing)
    Selenium: 100mcg / day
    Zinc: 15-30mg / day
    Quercetin: 500mg 3x / day
    Vitamin C: 500-1000mg 3x / day
    Vitamin D: 3-5000iu / day

    11:56

    Covid19 recovery exercises at home guided by Physiotherapist Michelle This gentle safe strength exercise routine helps avoid potential side effects of Covid bed rest; loss of strength, blood clots, chest infection and lower back pain. These strength exercises promote wellness and return to regular activity, maintain strength after Covid 19.

    *** Get Michelle's app NOW online at ** Copy and paste address into your browser.
    (Note this new App is NOT yet available on the App store)

    Physiotherapy Recovery Exercises at Home after Covid 19

    Common side effects of Covid 19 and prolonged bed rest include:
    * Fatigue
    * Lower back pain
    * Lingering cough
    * General aches and pains

    Please seek your medical physician's approval to return to exercise at home after Covid 19. If at any time during this exercise routine you feel dizzy or breathless, stop, take a break and return to the exercises when you feel fully recovered. Never perform intense exercise with a high temperature (i.e. febrile).

    Covid Recovery Strength Exercise Routine Outline
    This exercise routine includes bed or chair based exercises with options for different stages of recovery and levels of fitness.

    1. Breathing Exercises

    * Sit upright in bed or on the side of your bed
    * Place your hands around the lower part of your rib cage
    * Breathe slowly and deeply in through your nose and then let the air slowly leave your lungs. Don't be concerned if deep breathing makes you cough as this is quite normal when starting to breathe deeply again after shallow breathing while resting in bed.

    2. Neck and Shoulder Stretches

    Shoulder rolls, stretch forwards and out behind to relieve tight neck, shoulder and upper back muscles

    3. Seated Marching
    Can be performed sitting over the side of the bed or in a chair

    4. Sitting to Standing
    Strengthens your leg muscles and increases circulation to prevent blood clots on your legs.

    *Walk your bottom to the edge of the bed so your feet are flat on the ground
    *Do NOT wear socks, bare foot or fitted shoes are the safe alternative
    * Put your hands on the bed beside your body
    *Bring shoulders forward over your knees to stand upright
    *Push down through your heels and stand up slowly
    * Feel for the bed touching behind your knees
    * Lower your body slowly back to sitting position

    5. Marching on the Spot
    Promotes circulation to prevent blood clots and helps maintain general fitness

    6. Lumbar Rotations
    Eases low back pain and stiffness caused by bed rest

    7. Bridging Exercise
    Strengthens buttocks, improves circulation and prevents blood clots in calves.

    Perform this exercise lying on a firm surface in bed or on the ground.

    8. Calf Pump Exercises
    Improves circulation (blood flow) to the lower legs to prevent blood clots. Try to do these exercises hourly when resting lying down or sitting out of bed.

    Comfortable Elevated Bed Rest Position at Home
    When at home, resting with the upper body raised promotes deeper breathing, better circulation and can help clear the chest. This is why it's important to spend some time sitting upright in bed or in a chair out of bed at regular intervals during the day when able to.

    COVID-19 Update 59 with Roger Seheult, MD of

    We recorded this video in response to your comments asking what Dr. Seheult's daily regimen is - to optimize his immune system and minimize COVID-19 risk. In the absence of good clinical data that is specific to SARS-CoV-2, Dr. Seheult discusses supplements, sleep, and his daily disinfection routine when removing PPE, getting in his car, and returning home from the hospital. We look forward to more randomized, blinded, placebo-control studies in the future that will build upon the current body of evidence as it relates to immunity and specifically coronaviruses such as SARS-CoV-2.
