Elon Musk Unveils Starship Sea Launch Platforms Program. SpaceX to Complete Raptors in 48 hours.

Welcome to another episode of Spacex Fans where you can always expect the latest up to date news on SpaceX.
Kevin here and on today’s episode, we’d like to discuss some very interesting topics.
Last week, Elon Musk Unveiled the Starship Sea Launch Platforms Program for 2022.
Next, SpaceX is setting up the fourth Dragon launch in six months.
Finally, CEO Elon Musk says SpaceX is building a Raptor rocket engine every 48 hours
Grab your favorite drink and let’s get started on today’s episode of SpaceX Fans.

Elon Musk Unveils Starship Sea Launch Platforms Program in 2022.
In May of 2021, SpaceX CEO Elon Musk announced the company is building Deimos and Phobos launch platforms in the ocean and will be finished by 2022. Musk's tweet was a reply to a fan who had posted a rendered image of the upcoming spaceport.
    -
Instead of purchasing numerous parcels of land and having to experience more red tape than it already needs to, the firm has decided that constructing seaworthy platforms out of old oil rigs is the most ideal course of action.

Musk and SpaceX have previously shared their vision for a future in which spaceports like Deimos are positioned within convenient reach of major hubs around the world, making it possible for SpaceX to operate a globe-spanning network of hypersonic point-to-point travel using Starships, ferrying people from destinations as far flung as Beijing to New York in around 30 minutes. Before that, however, SpaceX will be looking to conduct orbital flight testing of the still in-development Starship, and its accompanying booster, Super Heavy.
Imagine launching aboard a spacecraft and arriving anywhere on the planet in under one hour!
SpaceX CEO Elon Musk on Saturday said SpaceX has ramped up Raptor production to the point that it’s almost completing one engine every 48 hours – equating to around 180 Raptors per year or a maximum cadence of one expendable three-engine Starship and 29-engine booster launch every nine weeks. At that run rate, Raptor has likely beat out Falcon’s venerable Merlin to become SpaceX’s most-produced rocket engine.

Elon Musk says SpaceX is completing one Starship raptor engine every 48 hours.
Hi everyone, welcome to Great SpaceX. My name’s Kevin and today, we’d like to treat you to a great video full of fantastic news.
Elon Musk said SpaceX increased production of Raptor engines in its factory.
How much will the number of Raptors increase?
Is there any change from before?
    How will its price change?
And what’s next for the estimated timeframe for landing the first SpaceX’s starship on Mars.
We also have news related to NASA on their Artemis 2 vessel.
Don’t forget to grab a cup of hot liquid and settle down for today’s episode of Great SpaceX.
    -
SpaceX CEO Elon Musk has confirmed that Starship’s Super Heavy booster will have at least one more engine than expected after hardware spotted at its Boca Chica, Texas factory indicated as much.
Simultaneously, Musk revealed that SpaceX’s Hawthorne, California factory and headquarters is now producing Raptors at a rate that will likely make it the company’s most plentiful product (outside of Starlink) in the near future.
    -
However, Musk also says that SpaceX has ramped up Raptor production to the point that it’s almost completing one engine every 48 hours – equating to around 180 Raptors per year or a maximum cadence of one expendable three-engine Starship and 29-engine booster launch every nine weeks.
    -
Over the past year, engineers test launched five Starship vehicles during high-altitude flights powered by a trio of methane-fueled Raptor engines. The flight tests demonstrated how the spacecraft is capable of using its fins for aerodynamic flight and control upon landing.
The same landing maneuver performed during test flights will be required on Mars upon descent.
Elon Musk says SpaceX is completing one Starship raptor engine every 48 hours
Musk is ‘highly-confident’ that Starship will be ready to conduct flights to space in less than three years. “I’m highly confident that we will have reached orbit many times with Starship before 2023. And that it will be safe enough for human transport by 2023. It’s looking very promising,” he said.
    -
All the flight hardware for Artemis 1 is staged in different locations around the Kennedy Space Center launch site, where Exploration Ground Systems (EGS) is handling launch processing. The final stacking sequence is expected to pick up in early-June with the coupling of the SLS Core Stage to its twin Solid Rocket Boosters (SRBs), but the Artemis 1 launch readiness date itself also depends on how smoothly the first-time integrated testing and checkout proceeds; recent estimates place readiness for launch anywhere between November 2021 and March 2022.

Adam Lichtl and Stephen Jones of SpaceX talk about simultating combustion in very large rocket engines. They use graphics processing units (GPUs) from nVidia for this task. While not directly mentioning Raptor, the limits they are pushing are clearly the result of the need to understand ever larger combustion systems, and they wouldn't be pushing as hard if this was only for the Merlin engine, which is already operational as well as reliable.

SpaceX propulsion chief Tom Mueller and his team selected an engine type called the pintle that was pioneered by Mueller’s former employer, TRW, which used it for the descent stage of the Apollo lunar module. Unlike most rocket engines, in which droplets of fuel and oxidizer are sprayed into the combustion chamber through an injector plate resembling a shower head, the pintle uses a needle-like injector that’s more like the nozzle on a garden hose. It’s not only less expensive to make, Mueller says, but it is also less susceptible to combustion instability, a runaway buildup of energy within the thrust chamber that has vexed engineers since the dawn of the Space Age (it added years and many millions of dollars to development of the giant F-1 engines for the Saturn V moon rocket, for example).
The Power Of The Merlin Engine In The Starship Superheavy, SpaceX Fans. Combustion instability can make an engine undergo what veterans dryly call an RUD, for Rapid Unscheduled Disassembly; civilians would call it blowing up. Even the Merlin had a couple of RUDs in the early days of development. “There are a thousand things that can happen when you go to light a rocket engine,” Mueller says, “and only one of them is good.”

  • Is SpaceXs Raptor engine the king of rocket engines?

    49:02

    00:00 - Intro
02:55 - Basic physics of rocket engines
    06:10 - Rocket engine cycles
    20:30 - Rocket fuel comparison
30:40 - Raptor vs other rocket engines
    44:05 - Summary

    Article version -

SpaceX's new raptor engine is a methane fueled full flow staged combustion cycle engine and its so hard to develop, no engine like this has ever flown before!

Now this topic can be really intimidating so in order to bring the Raptor engine into context, we’re going to do an overview of a few common types of rocket engine cycles then compare the Raptor to a few other common rocket engines, like SpaceX’s current work horse, the Merlin, The Space Shuttle’s RS-25, the RD-180, Blue Origin’s BE-4 and the F-1 engine.

And if that’s not enough, not only is SpaceX using a crazy engine cycle, they’re also going to be using Liquid Methane as their fuel, again something that no orbital rocket has ever used! So we’ll also go over the unique characteristics of liquid methane as a rocket fuel and see if we can figure out why SpaceX went with Methane for the Raptor engine.

We'll also break down and explain all the different engine cycle types so you know what the full flow staged combustion cycle is, how it works, and how it compares to the other cycles.

So by the end of this video hopefully we’ll have the context to know why the raptor engine is special, how it compares to other rocket engines, why it’s using methane and hopefully find out if the Raptor engine will be the new king of rocket engines…

  • Elon Musk Turned Tesla Giga Berlin Upside Down During His Recent Visit

    9:02

Tesla CEO Elon Musk threw construction plans overboard during his recent visit to Grünheide, Business Insider's German edition reports.

Tesla is currently finishing the inside of the factory in Grünheide. Heavy machines are set up in the paint shop and the press shop.

The employees work under high pressure, they work in shifts around the clock on the construction site.

During his recent visit, Elon Musk is said to have turned the plans for the production processes upside down - and called for more vertical integration. According to information from Business Insider, this was one of the reasons that led to the departure of top manager Marcel Jost.

Musk's ideas are said to have clashed with those of a manager
And there's Elon Musk. According to information from Business Insider, the Tesla boss turned upside-down plans for production in the factory during his recent visit. Musk wanted more production depth in Grünheide, but also significantly larger presses. More will be produced in the factory itself, important plastic parts for the cladding of the vehicles will be produced in Grünheide, for example. Also, instead of having two production lines on-site, Musk has requested a single one. According to information from Business Insider, the Tesla boss is said to have clashed with manager Marcel Jost because of his ideas - one of the reasons for the Tesla manager's recent departure.

Overall, Musk has apparently been a little more relaxed lately when it comes to progress in Grünheide. At least with regard to politics - economics minister Steinbach revealed to “ZEIT” that Musk would have called him more often in the past when problems arose. And now? Elon Musk calls only rarely, Steinbach said of Die Zeit.

  • How Starship Will Launch For $87 Per Kilogram

    10:05

Elon Musk wants to launch Starship for just $2 million per launch which is the same as just $20 per kilogram. Such a launch price would be unprecedented as popular competitors in the market often have a launch price in the thousands of dollars per kilogram. Even a reused Falcon 9 has a launch cost of $15 million for SpaceX or about $658 per kilogram. As a result, there has been a significant amount of skepticism surrounding SpaceX's ability to reach a launch cost of just $20 per kilogram. However, there are major differences between Falcon 9 and Starship that may just make such a leap possible. For instance, the majority of the launch cost of Falcon 9 goes towards rebuilding a stage 2 for every launch and refurbishing the fairing. Starship is fully reusable, so SpaceX won't have to spend millions of dollars rebuilding portions of the rocket or refurbishing the fairing. Aside from this, Starship utilizes Raptor engines that are far more efficient than Merlin engines, and Starship is built with stainless steel which is much cheaper. This video explains the various advantages Starship has over Falcon 9 and why SpaceX may be able to complete Starship launches for $87 per kilogram.

SpaceX Starship SN9 installed Raptor Engine ahead of High Altitude Flight
We all know SpaceX Starship faced some engine issues last week during Static fire testing but the good news is they have made a quick recovery. So there is a possibility of launch this week considering SN9 and it’s two engines operates properly during the static fire test. Meanwhile, though far less certain, Starship prototype SN9 is preparing for a fifth static fire attempt that could – if successful – precede a high-altitude launch attempt by just a day or two.

  • Why SpaceX, Virgin, & Blue Origin Are Betting On Space Tourism

    20:22

Space tourism has been, almost, nonexistent in the past, but Virgin Galactic, SpaceX and Blue Origin are looking to change that. Still, accessibility to space tourism remains limited to the richest of the rich, with ticket prices ranging from hundreds of thousands of dollars to millions. Development of these space tourism programs is costing these companies billions and each has a different reason for pursuing this, as of yet, unproven market.

  • SpaceX carefully tested three of the SN11s engines, before launching the SN11

SpaceX carefully tested three of the SN1's engines, before launching the SN11#STARSHIPFANS
Hello everyone, welcome to Spacex fans. Wish you all have a great day.
And now it’s time for the latest news about SpaceX. I hope you will be satisfied with this information.
    The following is general information.
SpaceX will need to test SN11's three Raptor engines as the final hurdle before launch.
SpaceX is installing propellant & consumables storage tanks at the orbital site in preparation for full stack testing later this year.
Starship SN11 survived its first ambient temp pressure tests.
    In the Headline today:
SpaceX will need to test SN11's three Raptor engines as the final hurdle before launch.
By December 2020, SpaceX teams launched Starship SN8, the first ever full scale vehicle with three methane-fueled Raptor engines. Starship SN8 was the first fully-assembled vehicle to conduct a high-altitude flight test of around 12-kilometers, as well as the first-of-its-kind aerodynamic flight and belly-flip maneuver controlled by its flaps. Even though SN8 ended with a failed landing, the fact that SpaceX aced an aerodynamic flight and the vehicle’s onboard computers performed all tasks accordingly was a huge milestone accomplished.
By January 2021, SpaceX teams felt confident to speed up the spacecraft’s development. They rolled out two full-scale spacecraft prototypes to the launch pad, Starship SN9 and SN10. Early February, SN9 performed a high-altitude flight of 10-kilometers. The incredible view looked like a scene from a Sci-Fi movie as Starship SN9 lifted off with its powerful Raptor trio while SN10 stood at the launch site. Though just like its predecessor, SN9 also exploded upon landing. SpaceX teams found the cause of the issue and learned from it ahead of the next flight test.

04:36 How Raptors create so much thurst
06:45 Starship prototypes and evolution of Raptor Engine
08:29 SpaceX’s vision with Raptor Engines

This video looks into the incredible engineering and skillful design of SpaceX’s recent Raptor rocket engines that is at the core of all of their current and future plans.
The Raptor engine is described as a cryogenic liquid methane and liquid oxygen fueled rocket engine and is designed to be highly reusable with a staged combustion system.
Use of liquid methane and liquid oxygen is a break from SpaceX’s previous rocket engines that used a refined petroleum kerosene and liquid oxygen.
Although earlier concepts for the Raptor called for the use of liquid hydrogen as fuel instead of methane, the use of liquid oxygen turned out to be the right choice in the end as the Raptor can produce much more than twice the thrust force of the Merlin engine used in SpaceX’s Falcon 9.
Due to the engine being able to achieve such high performance standards, the Raptor is fully intended to power SpaceX’s upcoming Starship launch vehicle which is designed to replace all of SpaceX’s current spacecraft such as the Falcon 9, Falcon Heavy, and Dragon 2.
Even though the Raptor is still being developed and improved, it has already achieved the distinction of being the first full flow staged combustion rocket engine ever flown.
Raptor’s full-flow stage combustion system eschews this in favor of managing to use every drop of propellant available, which makes it the most efficient rocket engine built so far.
As stated previously, the Raptor exerts a much higher pressure force than anything seen before; almost three times greater than the engine force exerted by SpaceX previous venture known as Merlin.
One Starship vehicle is powered by six of these Raptor engines and the Super Heavy rocket booster uses 35, making for a total of 41 Raptor engines that are working each launch.
The Raptor engine’s design is symbolic of SpaceX’s recent shift from launches within the Earth-Moon system to launches towards the greater Solar System.

  • Why SpaceX Built the Insane Raptor Engine

    11:20

SpaceX is known for building insane technology and they've done it again with the Raptor Engine! The SpaceX Raptor engine design represents the culmination of rocket engine technology. The Raptor is truly one-of-a-kind.

The Raptor engine is a closed-cycle full flow staged combustion engine, the hardest type of rocket engine to create. The innovative engineering at SpaceX allows this engine to reach world-class efficiency, reusability, and raw power.

SpaceX will use the Raptor Engine to go to Mars one day. Potentially flying up to 1000 times, the Raptor Engine creates more thrust with less fuel. Furthermore, using methane as fuel takes advantage of abundant resources on Earth and its ability to be produced on Mars.

The Raptor is truly a marvel!

0:00 Intro: If we can cut down the travel time to Mars with SpaceX Starship, not only will we be able to build our first Mars colony much sooner, but also we can solve the zero-g and cosmic ray problems for a crewed Spacex starship Mars landing. Hence we present 4 ways to upgrade the current SpaceX engine design for Starship.
0:42 SpaceX Starship current chemical rocket engine would allow us to fly to Mars in 6 months, which is far too long to realize Elon's mars city dream. Hence we present 4 alternative types of rocket engines which could potentially improve Spacex starship booster:
1:57 Ion drives are great for extremely long distances, e.g. to the outer solar system with SpaceX Starship.
2:50 Hall effect thrusters are another alternative to the current Spacex Starship engine configuration.
3:58 Nuclear thermal engines could reduce the travel time to Mars with SpaceX Starship down to 3 months.
5:47 VASIMR rocket engine could propel us much faster and more efficient to Mars than an nuclear thermal or chemical powered Starship ever could.
9:28 However, the extremely high power input needed for a Starship VASIMR rocket engine can't be met by the current nuclear fission technology, and would be best achieved through a powerful nuclear fusion reactor.

  • CEO Elon Musk says SpaceX is building a Raptor rocket engine every 48

    1:50

SpaceX CEO Elon Musk on Saturday said his company had the capability to produce a Raptor rocket engine every 48 hours.Raptor production is approaching one every 48 hours, Musk said on Twitter. The interplanetary transport engines, announced in 2016 and capable of generating 500,000 pounds of thrust, are key to SpaceX's plans to help NASA return to the moon, then head further out to Mars. The Raptor's insane power is expected to power SpaceX's Starship, which is set to be the next moon lander. NASA in April chose SpaceX as its sole partner for the Artemis moon program. But the contracted work was put on hold in late April pending a Government Accountability Office review after a protest from another bidder, led by Blue Origin, Jeff Bezos' space exploration company. SpaceX's Starship vehicle will be powered in its booster stage by 29 Raptor engines, Musk said in another tweet on Saturday. That will rise to 32 later this year, along with thrust increase per engine. Aiming for 7500 ton thrust long-term.Musk's Twitter comment came after Tim Dodd, who runs the YouTube channel Everyday Astronaut, questioned whether the rocket production was in a bit of a bottleneck. Some in the industry and government have expressed concern about SpaceX's prototypes exploding during test flights. Those concerns were echoed last week by Blue Origin on Twitter. The Human Landing System program needs competition, not the delay of starting over. The National Team has an open architecture, deep experience, massive self-funded investments and a safe, low-risk design to return to the Moon. Let's go, the company said. Musk on Friday replied to Blue Origin, which had a higher bid price for the Artemis contract than SpaceX.For the low, low price of ... ? Musk wrote on Twitter.

Correction: the grid fins on the first stage do not use the kerosene as hydraulic fluid. They run on their own open hydraulic system.

Elon Musk has also tweeted saying the Merlin-1D can throttle down to about 40%, rather than the 70% said in the video.

Spacex Starship Fires Up Three Raptor Engines | Russian Satellite & Chinese Rocket Avoided Collision
SpaceX booms ahead!! SpaceX Starship tested their three Raptor engines at full throttle. Starship Serial Number 8 (SN8) fired all three pre burners of Raptor engines on October 20th 1:21 a.m. This test was much bigger than the 19th October’s pre burner test. The thrust created by the Stainless Steel Prototype was massive. Starship SN8 a first kind of that prototype successfully completed and survived the first static fire test without any fail.

  • The Raptor Engine by SpaceX

    2:32

The video introduces the new Raptor Engine intorduced last night (27th September, 2016) on the 67th International Astronomical Congress. It also shows a bit how the Raptor engines work. A few points on the differences or upgrades of the Raptor engine over the Merlin engine has been shown.

SpaceX CEO Elon Musk tweeted a image of the engine firing a few days ago. ( The first goal is to put a 100 people to Mars with the Mars Vehicle which is planned to be launched within the next decade. 42 Raptor engines will be used in the booster of the vehicles to provide the 127.8 Mega Newton thrust needed to takeoff. Compared to nine Merlins in the Falcon-9 and 27 in Falcon Heavy to be launched in early 2017.

The Raptor engine is a massive improvement from the previous Merlin Engines used in Falcon series. It's a full-flow staged combustion engine to gain maximum momentum that can be get out of a given source fuel. It uses subcooled liquid oxygen and methane as propellants to achieve density improvements of up to 12%. This also gets rid of any cavitation risk and easy to feed a high pressure turbo pump. Of the 42 engines on the booster, 35 are fixed and center cluster of 7 will be used as gimbal for maneuvering. With 3050 kN, The Raptor Engine has 3 times the thrust of Merlin Engines, but roughly the same size due to its three times operating pressure. SpaceX estimates a production of around 300 Raptor Engines per year. Elon Musk thinks it'd be great to name the Mars Vehicle Heart of Gold', a tribute to Hitchhiker's Guide to Galaxy.
