  • Fixing a PC that Boot Loops

    5:26

    This video describes how to resolve a boot-loop issue with your PC. This works most of the time for boot-looping issues. Make sure to unplug the PC and to touch the frame of the case (to ground yourself) before touching the internal components.

  • PC Build – How to Fix a PC that won’t boot – DIY in 5 Ep 112

    3:53

    Here are the most common problems you might encounter when your computer will not start up and how you might be able to fix it.

    Failing Self-Test
    You’ve probably heard the term “POST” before in reference to PCs. It stands for “Power on Self-Test” and it refers to a series of self-diagnostic tests a PC will run upon first powering on. Both Mac and Windows computers will run these tests and if everything succeeds, your computer will boot up as normal. When building your own PC, getting your PC to post is a huge achievement because it means the build was successful. If the POST process encounters an error, it will not start, and you’ll need to figure out why. Most of the time, you will get an error code which will be a sequence of beeps. Check your motherboard manual for beep code meanings or Google the model number and beep codes or the number of beeps.

    Is it Plugged In?
    We hate to say it, but make sure you plugged it in. Fans should be spinning, lights should come on, etc. If none of that happens, you know you have a power-related issue. If everything seems to be working except your fans, your computer will not power up in order to protect the components from overheating thanks to multiple protection circuits on most motherboards.

    Will Not Boot After Installing New Hardware
    If you’ve just replaced any hardware components in your PC, remove them one by one to see if perhaps the new hardware is messing you up. If it is, that may mean that the hardware is defective or not compatible.

    A Brand-New Build Will Not Power Up
    If you have a brand-new build, make sure all your cable connections are in the correct spots and secured tightly. This is a common mistake among many new PC builders.

    An Old PC Will Not Boot
    If this is an older build and your motherboard has a BIOS chip, that can become loose over time and cause post problems. Open your case and lightly press down on the BIOS chip to make sure it’s not loose.

    Memory Errors
    One of the most common post problems is a memory error. This could be an issue with a bad memory module or improper installation, and you may be able to fix the issue by taking the memory out one by one and reinstalling it. If you can get it to boot with even one or more sticks, you might have some bad memory and, in that case, if it’s new, hit up that warranty! Since we’re Team Kingston, we’ll let you know that all Kingston memory comes with a 1-year manufacturer’s warranty. If you can get the memory to work in one slot but not another, you may have a defective motherboard.

    Try Safe Mode
    If your computer POSTs, but won’t boot up afterward, you should try booting up your computer in safe mode by hitting the F8 key on your keyboard right as your computer starts up. This will start up your computer with the bare minimum software running and if it starts up successfully, you know there’s some software issue at play, perhaps a driver, spyware or a virus. Some antivirus programs might have their own boot disk that will let you scan and clean your PC without booting into Windows. If safe mode doesn’t work either, you can use the startup repair tools built into the Advanced Options in the Safe Mode menu. If that doesn’t work, you may need to do a full operating system reinstall.

    If you’ve got a problem not solved by any of the fixes mentioned in this video, leave it in the comments and we’ll see if we can help.

    Method 1: Login to safe mode and uninstall recently installed applications
    Method 2: Use the registry backup command called regback.
    Method 3: Using the start-up repair tool.

    If all three fixes fail, then you can consider running a system restore, for that you will need to make a bootable USB with Windows 10 installation files, I have included that in this video:

  • How To Fix Dell Boot Loop, Stuck on Diagnosing PC, Stuck on Loading Screen

    9:25

    This is the first troubleshooting step you should use for any Dell computer stuck in a Boot Loop, Restarting, Loading, or Diagnosing PC. Make sure these are happening AFTER the initial Logo Screen.
    If the Diagnostic Scan found an error with the Hard Drive then it should be replaced as seen here; Then you would need to install Windows to it as seen here; You can create your own Install Media free as seen here; If these steps do not resolve your issue and the hard drive is shown to be healthy in the test, then you can try to reinstall Windows 10 as seen here; You can create your own Install Media for free as seen here;

    To Donate to PC Monkey so I can keep making relevant videos on newer computers, use or CashApp at $PCHelper.

    FAQ's:
    Q: What keys are you pressing?
    A: F12 for Diagnostic options and F2 for BIOS options.

    Q: What if I cannot locate the options for Legacy, CSM, or UEFI and I have explored all the tabs?
    A: If you cannot locate the options to switch between or if switching does not work, then skip that step and continue with the rest of the video :)
    What was the result of the Diagnostic Scan?

    Q: Test said that my HDD failed. What do I do now?
    A: You should then replace the hard drive as seen here; Then you would need to install an operating system onto it. You can see that done with Windows 10 here; You can create your own install media for free as seen here;

    Q: What if the diagnostic test says the Hard Drive is not installed or N/A?
    A: That means the hard drive is either bad or loose. I would first try 'reseating' the Hard Drive. That is where you unplug it and then plug it back in, making sure its properly plugged in and secure. Try the scan again. If it still says that its not installed, then its most likely bad and needs to be replaced. You can see how to do that here; You would also then need to install an operating system onto the new one as shown here;

    Q: It says I can’t enable the legacy option ROMS with PTT enabled
    A: Go into the Security Tab and try to Disable PTT Security. If that does not work, then skip that step, and continue with the rest of the video. If you cannot locate the options to switch between or if switching does not work, then skip that step and continue with the rest of the video :)
    What was the result of the Diagnostic Scan?

    Q: The diagnostic test wont finish. It just keeps restating.
    A: If you cannot run the diagnostic test and if changing the settings in BIOS do not help, then lets assume the hard drive is good. Assuming its an operating system error, try reinstalling Windows 10 as seen here; You can create your own Install Media for free as seen here; If that fails, then the hard drive may be bad. Replace it and install Windows to the new one.

    Q: The only error on the test was that my battery was dying. Is that the reason?
    A: If the diagnostic showed an error with the battery, then the battery should be replaced asap. However, thats most likely not the issue causing the 'boot loop' situation. If changing the setting in BIOS does not help and if no other errors are found by the test, then the issue is most likely in the operating system. Reinstall Windows 10 as seen here; You can create your own Install Media for free as seen here;

    In this tutorial I will be showing you a number of ways to fix Windows 10 startup problems either in the form of Automatic Repair Loop, Your PC did not start correctly, infinite booting or some other similar start-up problems you might be experiencing with Windows 10. This could happen after Windows has installed certain updates that it finds incompatible with the software distribution or after you make certain changes to your system settings or certain applications you have installed on your PC. If you’re able to figure out the event that led to this problem, then you wouldn’t need to try all fixes, you could simply pick the method that is more likely to solve your problem and implement it.

    Method 1: Use the suggested restart option
    Method 2: Using the start-up repair tool.
    Method 3: Use the registry backup command called regback. This command replaces your registry configuration with the last known good configuration you have on your PC, so basically changing your registry configuration to the configuration of your most recent successful bootup.

    If all fixes fail, then you can consider running a system restore, for that you will need to make a bootable USB with Windows 10 installation files, I have included that in this video:

    It is INCREDIBLY important to keep your PC clean. Dust build up is the leading cause to PC death. Dust can become conductive which can lead to bigger issues. KEEP YOUR PC CLEAN! In this video it is suspected that the dust may have been causing the internal circuit protection in the PSU to fault which is why it would randomly shut off, and in my case, wouldn't turn on at all.

  • How To Fix - HP Stuck in Boot Loop, Freezes Getting Windows Ready, Preparing Automatic Repair

    7:07

    Use this video to diagnose why your HP is stuck in a Boot Loop, or related issue. It may be stuck 'Getting Windows Ready', 'Preparing Auto Repair', or other issues. The button that was pressed to access the System Diagnostics was 'Esc' The button to access BIOS was F10. If you Hard Drive fails the testing, it will need to be replaced as seen here; After you install the new drive, you will need to install Windows onto it as seen here; You can create your own Install Media for free as seen here;
    FYI: Sometimes 'Legacy' is listed as 'CSM'

    FAQ's:

    Q: What if I cannot locate the options for Legacy, CSM, or UEFI and I have explored all the tabs?
    A: If you can not change the settings in BIOS or if changing them did not help your situation, skip that step and proceed with the rest of the video. What was the result of the diagnostic test?

    Q: What does it mean 'Hard Drive SMART Check FAILED'
    A: That means your hard drive is bad and needs to be replaced. You can see how to access the HDD here; Then you will have to install Windows onto the new one as seen here; You can create your own Install Media for free as seen here;

    Q: The diagnostic scan says that my Hard Drive is not installed.
    A: That means its either bad or loose. I would first try 'reseating' the Hard Drive. That is where you unplug it and then plug it back in, making sure its properly plugged in and secure. Try the scan again. If it still says that its not installed, then its most likely bad and needs to be replaced. You can see how to do that here; You would also then need to install an operating system onto the new one as shown here;

    Q: Changing settings in BIOS didn't help and everything passed the test?
    A: If changing the settings in BIOS did not resolve the issue and the diagnostic test passed all components, then its most likely an operating system error. Try to install Windows onto it as seen here; You can create your own Install Media for free as seen here;

    Q: This didn't work :(
    A: This video contains troubleshooting steps. Not magic fixes. Based on the result of these tests, we are able to either identify the cause of the problem or rule some causes out and continue to test for other possible causes. What was the result of the diagnostic scan? Did it not complete?

    Q: My diagnostic test says 'Unavailable' or I cant run it. What do I do?
    A: First reseat the HDD. See if that helps. If you cant run the test, then we don’t know for sure if the HDD is bad or not. You can proceed a couple different ways. You can assume its good and that the Operating System is the cause of your error. Or you can assume its bad and replace it before installing an Operating System to the new one. You can see how to install Windows 10 to an HP here; You can create your own Install Media for free as seen here;

    bcdboot C:Windows - initializes the system partition by using BCD files from the C:Windows folder.

    /s - BCDBoot copies the boot files to either the system partition, or the partition specified by the /s option.

    /f - Specifies the firmware type. When you specify the ALL value, BCDBoot creates both the Boot and the EfiMicrosoftBoot directories, and copies all required boot-environment files for BIOS and UEFI to these directories.

    When fixing the Master Boot Record -

    bootrec /FixMbr -- writes a new boot record of the system partition using the master boot record compatible with Windows. This operation does not overwrite the existing table.

    bootrec /Fixboot -- This options writes a new boot sector to the system partition. Fixes damaged boot sectors, non-standard boot sectors, and issues caused by the installation of earlier Windows operating systems (pre-Vista). Ignore any error that may come up.

    bootrec /RebuildBCD -- scan all disks for installations compatible with Windows and allows the user to choose which to add to the configuration store.

  • Windows 10: How to Fix Slow Performance Issue After Update 2022

    4:00

    Windows 10: How to Fix Slow Performance Issue After Update.

    Commands Used:
    rd /S /Q C:WindowsSoftwareDistribution
    rd /S /Q C:$WINDOWS.~BT

    Many Windows users face reduced performance issues in Windows 10. At times, this happens in the form of input lags, and one way we can fix it is by tweaking some Page File settings in Windows 10. So, how to fix this slow performance issue in Windows 10 to boost system speed?

    Your computer has been on a marathon upgrade cycle since 2015 and is probably feeling exhausted with the number of feature updates and cumulative updates Microsoft has released since then. With all these rapid changes in a short period of time, it’s possible that your system is getting bogged down.

    If your Windows 10 desktop is performing slowly since upgrading to a new version of Windows 10, there might be some simple reasons why that’s happening. Below are some things you should try after performing the upgrade.

    Issues addressed in this tutorial:
    windows 10 slow internet
    windows 10 slow boot
    windows 10 slow after update
    windows 10 slow performance
    windows 10 slow boot after update
    windows 10 slow after update
    windows 10 slow performance fix
    windows 10 slow and freezing
    windows 10 slow after reset
    windows 10 slow booting problem
    windows 10 slow booting fix
    windows 10 slow computer

    After the official launch of Windows 10, millions of users upgraded their PCs to Windows 10 by availing the free upgrade offer from Microsoft. However, several desktop users reported Windows 10 slow performance issue on Microsoft forums and Reddit after upgrading their systems.

    There are some definite problems with the Windows 10 OS as the number of people facing slow performance issue in Windows 10 is very large. This sluggish performance usually appears in the form of input lags.

    For example: After clicking the Start Menu, it takes about 2-3 seconds to appear or taking the same time to refresh your desktop. Complaining about this Windows 10 slow performance issue, many users downgraded to the previous versions of Windows OS.

    According to a user on the Microsoft Community forums, the Windows 10 slow performance issue could be fixed by tweaking the Page File settings in Windows 10 that affects and improves the overall system performance.

    All of this was a problem back then, but it might appear on some PCs, even in today’s time. So, if you’re facing the slow performance issue in Windows 10, you can try to speed up the OS by changing the default settings for Page File control.

    This tutorial will apply for computers, laptops, desktops,and tablets running the Windows 10 operating system (Home, Professional, Enterprise, Education) from all supported hardware manufactures, like Dell, HP, Acer, Asus, Toshiba, Lenovo, and Samsung.
