  • Donald Trump Vs Joe Biden: Full presidential debate | US Election 2020

    1:33:10

President Donald Trump and Democratic rival Joe Biden battled fiercely over Trump's record on the coronavirus pandemic, healthcare and the economy in a chaotic and bad-tempered first debate marked by personal insults and Trump's repeated interruptions. Trump bulldozed his way through the 90-minute debate, trying to goad Biden nearly every time he spoke, claiming that Democrats were trying to steal the November presidential election with mail-in ballots and declining to condemn white supremacist groups when asked to do so. Watch the full video for more details.

  • Trump and Biden face off in chaotic first 2020 presidential debate | FULL DEBATE

    2:58:38

The first presidential debate between President Trump and Joe Biden featured a chaotic series of bitter exchanges and name-calling, with the president repeatedly speaking over his Democratic rival and the moderator struggling to maintain control of the 90-minute affair.

Will you shut up, man? an exasperated Biden said in a comment that was emblematic of the tumultuous nature of the debate, which was held in Cleveland, Ohio. It's hard to get any word in with this clown.

The president leveled barrages of unfounded accusations against his Democratic rival and his family, invoking his son Hunter Biden's work in Ukraine and bringing up the younger Biden's history of drug abuse. Mr. Trump declined to condemn white supremacist groups and defended his response to the coronavirus pandemic that has claimed more than 200,000 American lives, trying to portray Biden as a socialist who isn't equipped to occupy the Oval Office.

Did you use the word smart? the president asked Biden at one point. You graduated either the lowest or almost the lowest in your class. Don't ever use the word smart with me, Joe.

Biden, for his part, tried to direct his answers to the audience watching at home. He called Mr. Trump the worst president America has ever had, blaming him for bungling the response to the pandemic and fueling racial divisions amid recent protests against police brutality.

  • First presidential debate in full: Trump vs Biden | US Election 2020

    1:39:52

Donald Trump and Joe Biden went head to head for the first time as they kick start a series of televised debates ahead of the November 3 election.

The 90-minute meeting took a different format to usual thanks to restrictions necessitated by the coronavirus pandemic. There were no standard handshake between the two presidential candidates, and moderator Fox News star Chris Wallace had a much smaller audience than usual to contend with.

With Mr Trump, 74, telling Mr Biden, 77, there is nothing smart about you, Joe”, and Mr Biden branding the president a bulldozer”, the debate produced several heated moments.

  • Joe Biden and President Donald Trump discuss Covid-19 in first debate

    5:33

President Donald Trump and former Vice President Joe Biden face off in the first presidential debate Tuesday night, hosted by Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. For access to live and exclusive video from CNBC subscribe to CNBC PRO:

Biden swiped at Trump over the president’s early handling of the coronavirus, alleging that the administration started to inform the public of the disease’s severity only when it hit the stock market.

“Do you believe for a moment what he’s telling you in light of all the lies he’s told you about the whole issue relating to Covid?” Biden asked. “He still hasn’t even acknowledged that he knew this was happening — knew how dangerous it would be back in February — and he didn’t even tell you.”

“He panicked, or just looked at the stock market, one of the two,” Biden added. “Because guess what? A lot of people died and a lot more are going to die unless he gets a lot smarter or a lot quicker.”

  • President Donald Trump and Joe Biden debate violence at protests over systemic racism

    3:58

President Donald Trump and former Vice President Joe Biden face off in the first presidential debate Tuesday night, hosted by Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. For access to live and exclusive video from CNBC subscribe to CNBC PRO:

Trump would not explicitly condemn White supremacists and tell them not to “add to violence” surrounding unrest in the U.S. Wallace asked Trump if he would publicly “condemn White supremacists and militia groups and say they need to stand down and not add to the violence.”

Trump immediately turned to an attack on what he calls the “radical left” like antifa, referring to antifacist demonstrators.

“I would say almost everything I see is from the left wing,” Trump said, referring to violence at demonstrations. Pressed by Wallace to state his condemnation for White supremacists, Trump said, “Proud Boys, stand back and stand by. But I’ll tell you what, somebody’s got to do something about antifa and the left.”

The Proud Boys is a far-right organization deemed a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center. Social media companies such as Facebook and Twitter have suspended accounts and removed pages of members affiliated with the group for hate.

  • Analyzing Trump and Bidens competing town halls, 18 days before election day

    3:06

President Donald Trump and Democratic Presidential nominee Joe Biden took part in competing town halls, after the president pulled out of the scheduled debate when it changed to a virtual format. CBS News chief Washington correspondent Major Garrett joined CBS This Morning to discuss how each candidate did, with less than three weeks to election day.

President Donald Trump and challenger Joe Biden met on the debate stage Tuesday night in Ohio. Here are key early takeaways from the first of three scheduled presidential debates before Election Day on Nov. 3.

  • Second presidential debate between President Donald Trump and Joe Biden on Oct. 15 will be virtual

    1:30

The Commission on Presidential Debates announced Thursday morning the next debate will be virtual. The debate, which is schedule for Oct. 15, will be in the form of a town hall meeting and the candidates will participate from separate remote locations. For access to live and exclusive video from CNBC subscribe to CNBC PRO:

The second presidential debate between President Donald Trump and Democratic nominee Joe Biden, scheduled for Oct. 15, will be held virtually, the bipartisan Commission on Presidential Debates said Thursday.

Minutes after the announcement, however, Trump said he would not participate.

“No I’m not going to waste my time on a virtual debate,” he said during an interview on the Fox Business channel. His campaign later said Trump will hold a rally that night instead.

Trump and his allies quickly claimed, without evidence, that the commission had made the change to favor Biden. A Biden campaign source told NBC News that the CPD made the decision independently.

The format change comes six days after Trump announced that he and first lady Melania Trump had tested positive for the coronavirus. Since Trump’s diagnosis, more than a dozen White House officials have tested positive for Covid-19.

Following Trump’s refusal to do a virtual debate, the Biden campaign proposed that the final debate, currently scheduled for Oct. 22, be held as a live town-hall debate between the two candidates. The Trump campaign tentatively agreed to a town-hall on Oct. 22, but also called for a third and final debate on Oct. 29.

The Biden campaign rejected the idea of a third debate if Trump refuses to participate in the Oct. 15 debate, arguing that Trump’s refusal is tantamount to canceling the second debate.

White House aides are reportedly trying to convince the president to agree to at least one and possibly two more debates with Biden. “It’s a mistake to cede ground” to the former vice president, a senior official told NBC News. “If he lets Biden speak more, the public will see Biden’s shortcomings.”

Earlier this week, Biden said he thought the debate should be called off if the president were still infected with the coronavirus.

But experts say it can be difficult to pinpoint exactly when a Covid patient is no longer contagious, and they urge doctors and patients to err on the side of caution.

  • Chaotic moments from Donald Trump and Joe Bidens first US presidential debate I SBS News

    2:13

President Donald Trump and his Democratic rival Joe Biden faced off in the first US presidential debate, in Cleveland, Ohio.

Fox News host Chris Wallace moderated the debate. The 72-year-old struggled to stop the two men, also in their 70s, talking over the top of each other.

The debate saw the pair arguing over the handling of the coronavirus pandemic, the economy, US Supreme Court nominees and climate change.

  • Show us your tax returns: Joe Biden hits out at Donald Trump in first presidential debate

    1:53

Moderator Chris Wallace asked Mr Trump about a new report suggesting the president paid just $750 in federal income tax in 2016 and 2017, to which Mr Biden interrupted with calls of show us your tax returns.

He pays less tax than a school teacher, Mr Biden said, describing how he would scrap the tax cuts that Mr Trump introduced during his first term.

Joe Biden's tax returns were published on Tuesday, hours before the first presidential debate - in which Donald Trump's failure to pay federal taxes will loom large.

Mr Biden, 77, paid nearly $300,000 in federal taxes for 2019.

He and his wife, Jill, a teacher, reported receiving $985,233 in adjusted gross income for the year.

Until Mr Trump's presidency, it was routine for presidents and candidates to disclose their tax returns annually - but the New York billionaire argued that he was being audited, and that prevented the release of his returns. The tax authorities disputed this, but the story held.

On Sunday the New York Times obtained his federal returns, which the paper said showed that in 2016 and 2017 he only paid $750.

He avoided federal income taxes entirely for 10 of the last 15 years, the report claims.

Mr Trump called the report fake news.

All presidents except Trump have publicly released their taxes since the presidency of Richard Nixon.

Trump has said since 2016 that he would eventually release them. But when asked by moderator Chris Wallace when, he said only: “You’ll get to see it.”
