  • Romantic Road Vacation Travel Video Guide

    25:45

Travel video about the Romantic Road in Germany.
Thousands of years of history is experienced by those who travel Germany’s Romantic Road with its world famous historic cities, fortresses and palaces, from Würzburg to Neuschwanstein Castle. The picturesque Baroque town of Würzburg is located on the River Main amid the Franconian wine region and is dominated by the mighty Marienberg Fortress. The Celts created a fortress that subsequent rulers gradually extended and the oldest church in Franconia, including a massive watchtower, continues to be protected by several huge walls. Tauberbischofsheim is one of the oldest cities in the popular Tauber Valley that was once completely walled. Missionary bishop, Boniface, founded Germany’s first women's monastery in Germany in 735 A.D. and installed a family member, Lioba, as abbess, who tutored the daughters of the nobility and the Free Francs. Rothenburg ob der Tauber is where Germany’s Middle Ages have been preserved up to the present day with huge entrance gates and high walls that lead into the former imperial city.
In 1868, Bavarian King Ludwig The Second had a dream come true in Allgäu, southern Germany: Castle Neuschwanstein, the realisation of his amazing world of fantasy.
This fairytale castle was in construction for seventeen years and in every way the idyll of ancient German knighthood.
The wealth of occidental history, art and culture makes a journey on the Romantic Road a most fascinating adventure into the past. A dream journey through a country and its history.

#304: Germany's Rhine and Mosel Rivers
For centuries the Rhine has been a natural border and the main route for trade, people and ideas. We start in the ancient Roman city of Trier and travel up the Mosel River visiting vineyards and ancient castles. We'll take a scenic cruise down the Rhine for a sailor's eye view of famous Rhine castles and the lovely but dangerous Lorelei. In Koblenz we'll see where Julius Cesar destroyed two Germanic tribes but was never able to conquer Germany, and just down stream we'll see where American troops first crossed the Rhine during World War II at the bridge at Remagen. Our trip concludes in the city of Cologne where we'll visit the modern art museum and sample Kölsch, the local beer. Tip: Taking a cruise down the Rhine.

This German travel video, we visit Burg Eltz castle, this fairytale castle was reccomended as the best castle in Germany. We compare it to our visit to Neuschwanstein castle that we found disappointing. Eltz castle is in the mosel valley which is in the beautiful German wine region. A must visit German area. We visited the steepest vineyards in the world, Bremmer Calmont vineyards and got to the best viewpoint in mosel valley. We reccomend this as one of the best things to do in Germany. Make sure you take the hike from moselkern to burg eltz for the ultimate castle experience. Finally we visit Cochem, a stunning town on the river Rhine. Another must visit place and one of the most picturesque places in Germany.

This is the world famous Rudesheim Drosselgasse which is a 144 meter long lane in Rudesheim, Germany which is an old yet very touristy German village on the Rhine which has a year round population of only 3000 yet sees 10 million visitors per year. The Drosselgasse is world famous for its beer cafes, restaurants and dancing and drinking establishments. We enjoyed our visit. As the video shows, this visit was part of a Viking River Cruises tour. This was the optional Dine in Rudesheim tour and features Viking Kara cruise director Elizabeth. If we had it to do over, we would visit the Drosselgasse ourselves and have dinner on the ship because the Viking food was amazing and better than what we had at the Rudesheimer Schloss which is one of the most famous establishments on the Drosselgasse (actually rated #1 by TripAdvisor).

  • Oberes Mittel-Rheintal Vacation Travel Video Guide

    9:42

Travel video about destination Oberes Mittel-Rheintal in Germany.
The Upper Middle Rhine Valley is located in Germany and is the section of river between Koblenz and Rüdesheim. In around 1000 A.D. a castle was built on a knoll on the east bank of the Rhine, and Burg Ehrenbreitstein gradually developed. From the Middle Ages until the late eighteenth century Koblenz was the residence of the powerful archbishops of Trier. In 1794 the city was taken over by France and, in 1815, Prussia. We travel up the Rhine whose source is situated in the Swiss Alps and gradually makes it way to the North Sea. High up on the riverbank is the huge Germania which points the way to Rüdesheim in the midst of numerous vineyards. This picturesque city, which has more visitors than actual residents, was settled in prehistoric times. A mediaeval church, wooden buildings and stately homes, and the famous Drosselgasse, characterize the city. In a fine sun kissed location, its vineyards prospered as did the constant trade brought by the river. The Upper Middle Rhine Valley is a thing of beauty!

    13:26

If you are looking for the old world charm of Germany, then Bacharach is one of those jewels on the Rhine River that will fit that bill. It really is a step back in time strolling through the old town district. There will be a separate video devoted to the higher areas above the town, which includes remnants of the old wall, along with some surviving towers, beautiful vineyards growing up into the hills. And, of course, some breathtaking views of the town below, along with the vast Rhine River Valley.

Documentation for the town of Bacharach dates back to the early 11th Century, though many historians also believe that it has existed there since the 7th century. Stahleck Castle sits high on the hill above town; it is now a youth hostel.

The MS Amadeus Brilliant was launched in 2011 and is the sister ship to the near identical Amadeus Elegant. The 150-passenger vessel is part of the 14-strong and steadily growing Austrian-owned Amadeus River Cruises' fleet. In addition to boasting amenities such as a hair salon, massage room, gym and late-night snack. The elegant vessel has 68 cabins and eight suites, and the majority have panoramic windows that open onto French balconies. It also has two single cabins, another relative rarity for riverboats.

Whether you're after a buzzing night in capital Berlin, or to write your own fairytales on the Romantic Road, Germany has a wealth of fun and exciting things to do in amongst some excellent wines and stunning mountains. These are 24 of our favourite things to see and do in Germany.

  • Places to see in

Places to see in ( Koblenz - Germany )

Koblenz is an ancient city in central Germany, and a gateway to the terraced vineyards and ruined castles of the Rhine Gorge. In the center, a monumental statue of William the Great marks the confluence of the Rhine and Moselle rivers. A cable car connects to the hilltop Ehrenbreitstein Fortress, which hosts museums and cultural events. South along the river is the neo-Gothic Stolzenfels Castle with its gardens.

At the confluence of the Rhine and Moselle Rivers and the convergence of three low mountain ranges – the Hunsrück, the Eifel and the Westerwald – the Romans founded a military stronghold they named Confluentes for the site’s supreme strategic value. Modern-day Koblenz is a park- and flower-filled city that serves as both the northern gateway to the Romantic Rhine Valley and the northeastern gateway to the Moselle Valley, making it an ideal starting point for exploring the region.

Koblenz has about 110,000 inhabitants (2015); the surrounding area accounts for about 400,000 people in total. The name Koblenz originates from Latin (ad) confluentes, confluence or (at the) merging of rivers. Subsequently it was Covelenz and Cobelenz. In the local dialect the name is Kowelenz. After Mainz and Ludwigshafen am Rhein, it is the third largest city in Rhineland-Palatinate in terms of population. Koblenz lies in the Rhineland, 92 kilometers (57 mi) southeast of Cologne by rail.

  • Tauberbischofsheim | ???????? Romantic Road

    4:56

    #Tauberbischofsheim #germany #romanticroad

This area was settled around 3000 B.C and with its romantic charm, medieval scenery, city tours, museums, hiking trails, brewery tours and, our favorite-- WINE TOURS, it's easy to see why. For more information visit (

Highlights: The Church St. Lioba (10) and behind it is the Monastery courtyard (11) was a former franciscan monastery.

Peterskapelle (26): Boniface founded the convent at Bischofsheim and in 1180 the town's oldest building, the Chapel of Saint Peter, was built.

Between 1237 and 1245 town rights were granted and around 1280 the Türmersturm (Storm Tower) (17) was built as the keep of a medieval city castle. When the city castle was replaced by Kurmainz castle (16) in the 16th century, only this keep was preserved.

The city castle was probably triangular and had a moat. The moat, this tower and two other defense towers in the north-west (18) and north-east (14) served to defend the city.

Bischemer Krötenbrunnen (Little Toad Fountain) historic fountain (15).

Sebastianus chapel, built 1476 as a double chapel, arranged one above the other. The lower chapel used to be a cemetery chapel and here, at the entrance to the ossuary, there is a sculpture of the Last Judgment. The chapel on the upper floor was used by the former Sebastian Brotherhood as a meeting and prayer room.

Around 1850 the town became known as Tauberbischofsheim to distinguish it from other towns named Bischofsheim, the name of the river Tauber was added to the name.

In 1866, a battle in the Austro-Prussian War took place here between troops from Württemberg and Prussia.

The Romantic Road (German: Romantische Straße) is a theme route devised by promotion-minded travel agents in the 1950s. It describes the 460 kilometres (290 mi) of surface roads between Würzburg and Füssen in southern Germany, specifically in Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg, linking a number of picturesque towns and castles. In medieval times, it was a trade route that connected the center of Germany with the south. Today, this region is thought by many international travelers to possess quintessentially German scenery and culture, in towns and cities such as Nördlingen, Dinkelsbühl and Rothenburg ob der Tauber and in castles such as Burg Harburg and the famous Neuschwanstein.

With about five million overnight stays, four to five times that number of day visits and around 15,000 tourist jobs generated by the route, it is an economically important south German travel destination.
