  • Cocos Island - The mysterious island in the Pacific - FULL VERSION!!

    43:16

Unfortunately, the previously uploaded version was not complete: It aborts in minute 22. Here finally is the complete documentary.
    Have fun with it! :)

Coconut Island protrudes from the Pacific Ocean as the peak of a lone volcano, far off the Costa Rican coast. At the end of the 18th century, the English author Robert Louis Stevenson is said to have received the inspiration for his novel „Treasure Island“ here.

The tiny island comprises just 25 sqm² and is covered by an impenetrable jungle. Numerous streams, waterfalls and gorges epitomise the world‘s largest uninhabited rain forest island. Due to its isolation, unique flora and fauna have developed here. Today, as a national park and world natural heritage, the island is closely supervised by park rangers.

The outstanding underwater world surrounding the island abounds with marine fauna of every description. Hardly any other destination is as well-known for its countless large fish varieties, especially hammerhead, reef and offshore sharks. The film‘s author submerged to depths up to 400 meters on board the „Deep Sea“, a modern research submarine. During the dive, he ucceeded in shooting material of rare deep sea fish and shark species, which have never before been sighted near Coconut Island.

Some people just have a natural love for exploration. There are countless videos and articles all over the internet about people exploring volcanoes, deep jungles, and even the dark depths of the ocean. Many of us would never think to put ourselves at such a huge risk like this just for the sake of seeing what possible treasures can be discovered. Sometimes the findings make the risks involved more than worth it. But other times, it's the findings themselves that make you wish the risks were all that you had to be worried about. The team of divers in this story can never unsee what they were unlucky enough to come across.

The Great Blue Hole located off the coast of Belize is the word's largest ocean sinkhole known to man, measuring approximately 1,000 feet across and about 400 feet in depth. It has become an extremely popular diving site over the years, but its internal structure, features lie at the very bottom still remained a mystery, until December 2018 when an expedition into The Great Blue Hole took place.

It's important to note that once you get to a certain point deep enough in The Great Blue Hole, there is zero oxygen present there, meaning that absolutely nothing can survive down towards the bottom. This is also a very common spot where divers go missing due to not having the slightest clue that they're not going to be able to survive if they venture too far down.

As the expedition team was traveling deeper and deeper, they noticed some strange looking conch shells. Again, nothing is able to live down there, but the shells themselves still looked a little bizarre compared to the usual conch shells people are used to seeing. When the team finally reached the bottom, the noticed some strange tracks in the sand that circled around each other with no indication or clue around as to who or what made them. The team decided to leave the tracks alone and not alter them in any way.

Near where the submarine was parked, they also saw a few caves. Most of the caves had their roofs collapsed, but one cave looked as though it was in good condition and able to be entered. Inside the cave, there were many stalactites, some even as big as 40 feet in length. Stalactites are formed due to the slow drips of water and the crystallization of minerals. Since it's not possible for water to drip underwater, this meant that at one point these caves were above water. The team kept going, but the further they went inside the caves, the darker it became. The lights they carried didn't have unlimited battery life, so they had to be careful and choose wisely when to utilize the lights. Everything was going according to plan until the divers bumped into something. Since it didn't appear to be possible to continue advancing, they decided to turn on one of the lights to see what was in their way. When they were able to see what it was, their hearts certainly stopped for a few seconds.

They came across what at first looked to be a ring of mannequins. This obviously not being possible, had to mean that they were either statues, or bodies. The team came to the conclusion that they were more than likely bodies due to the fact that the Great Blue Hole was known for having divers go missing while trying to explore. What happened here, is that a big team of divers was exploring, together, then their lights must have run out of battery life. So then the divers not having any sort of light source, couldn't make their way out of the cave before running out of oxygen to breathe. At this point, the expedition team decided that they had seen enough and it was time to go back to the surface to report their findings.

When they arrived back at the surface, the first thing they did was alert the authorities about what they found. No one was going to go back down and get the remains, but at least the authorities could get an idea of where some of the missing people reported in the area may very well be. Maybe some of the people involved, as well as their families, could finally be at peace. But even with what they, unfortunately, had to come across, the expedition was a huge success. The team was able to find out some of what's truly at the bottom of the Great Blue Hole.

With the earth’s surface covered mostly with water, some mysterious bodies of water are bound to
surface. But no other body of water evokes wonder and mystery more than lakes. Today we will be
looking at 10 of the most horrifyingly mysterious lakes in the world. Make sure to watch till the end,
number one’s mystery is literally at biblical proportions.

    Number 10. Taal Lake
Also called “The Lake Within a Lake”, Taal Lake is a sight to behold. Located in Tagaytay City, Philippines,
it’s the area’s most famous tourist attraction, attracting millions of visitors every year, both local and
foreign. But why would such a picturesque natural wonder be so horrifying? Well, if that fact the lake
itself sits inside the crater of an ancient volcano, that may explode anytime, doesn’t send chills down
your spine, then the legend surrounding it might.
Legend tells of a wise old man who once lived in Tagaytay, who strictly forbade all the towns people
from venturing into a mountain. This mountain was filled with natural resources and the old man
wanted to preserve it. The towns folk initially obeyed his commands, staying clear of the mountain.
Then, one day the old man mysteriously vanished.
With the old man gone, no one was able to stop the towns folk from stripping the mountain bare. When
the old man eventually returned, he was angered by what the towns folk did, and called upon a calamity
on the people. A violent earthquake shook the mountain, and thunder and fire poured down from the
skies, killing very last villager. Then, water poured out onto all sides of the mountain, forever burying
any evidence of the massacre that occurred.

    Number 9. Lake Hillier
Nothing colored bubble gum pink could ever be horrifying, right? Well, hold that thought for a moment
while we talk about Lake Hillier in Western Australia.
The coloration is due to the presence of a specific species of microalgae, Dunaliella Salina, that lurks in
its waters. These are saline-thriving photosynthetic critters that generate energy in their bodies by
soaking in the white sun rays, absorbing every wavelength of incoming light except orange and red. So
basically, the pink coloration is caused by these microalgae reflecting the light that they don’t absorb.
The question is, can you swim in it? Yes, definitely. The presence of this microalgae, even in the billions,
don’t pose a problem when they come in contact with human skin, so you’ll be perfectly fine swimming
in it, that is if you keep your mouth closed. Although they won’t cause you direct harm with skin contact,
just drinking a glass of this pink water, however yummy it might look, will definitely result in kidney
    failure.

    Number 8. The Plitvice Lakes

The term the Plitvice Lakes refers to sixteen large and small lakes surrounded by forests, but also to the
entire area where they are located. It is the eastern part of the region of Lika, between the mountains
called Mala Kapela and Lička Plješivica, which is most commonly called Plitvice. The present-day name
has completely obscured the ancient one – Devil's garden- the term used in ancient times when this
exceptional beauty of nature was revered by the people.
In that distant era, this isolated, poorly explored area gave ground to the creation of legends featuring
lake fairies, harsh winters, robust highlanders and forest beasts, and the most famous one – the one
about the Black Queen who created the Plitvice Lakes.
As the legend has it, after a long terrible draught that befell the province, people, animals and plants
were longing for every drop of precious water. Even the Black River that brought water to the whole
area went dry. The people prayed persistently, until one day, from the fairy palace hidden high in the
steep rock walls of the mountain Velebit, the Black queen descended into the valley with her
magnificent entourage. Having heard the peasants' prayers, the Queen took mercy and promised to give
them water in abundance. Accompanied by furious winds and deafening thunder rain started to pour
down on the dry lands. It rained so heavily and for such a long time that the abundance of water created
lakes in the Black river's bed.

10 Most Horrifyingly Mysterious Lakes In The World

If you chose to watch this video, you should know that some of these lakes have been the cause
of human sacrifice, suicide and death. And no, we didn’t include the Loch Ness lake and the
monster that “supposedly” lives in it. Instead we have lakes that could cause kidney failure if
you so much as take a little sip of the water or… for those of you who like ashes and mummies,
we have a lake that can probably mummify any living organism that comes in contact with the
water, birds and insects being its usual prey. These lakes are as mesmerizing as they are deadly,
but don’t let their natural beauty fool you into thinking that the lake is swimmable. Any contact
with them could be your last… So, are you ready to find out what are the 10 Most Horrifyingly
Mysterious Lakes in the World? Let’s dive right in, shall we?
    #10 Lake Nyos

Oh, we start our list pretty strong. Why, you ask? Because this lake managed to kill 1,746 people in
around 30 minutes. Plus, the 3,500 livestock that was situated near the lake, all perished. What caused
the major death of so many people and cattle?
It was the huge cloud of CO2 that was emitted on 21 August 1986 in Northwest Cameroon in Africa. The
population immediately suffocated in the cloud of CO2 that had risen from the lake and polluted the air.
The cause of this outbreak, scientists believe was an eruption by an underground volcano, that released
vast quantities of carbon dioxide in the air. There are geologists that believe the eruption of gas was
caused by a landslide or an earthquake, but none of the eyewitnesses reported any shaking of the
    ground beforehand.
Since the cataclysmic disaster, the authorities have installed a degassing system to reduce the next CO2
disaster… which might occur at any given moment.
    #9 Taal Lake

This one is a particular sight for sore eyes. But as we said, do not be fooled by the beauty of
these lakes. Taal is one of the 3 biggest lakes in the Philippines, and the volcanic crater was
formed some 500,000 years ago. This is a lake is inside a volcano which has another volcano
inside, with a lake inside and in the middle of that lake there is a little island.
So, what could be so devastating and horrifying about it? How about the fact that in 1911,
approximately 1,300 people lost their lives during the volcanic eruption from inside the lake.
Tsunamis swept the coasts near the lake and the land was destroyed.

Taal is one of the most carefully monitored seismic locations in the Philippines, but does this
stop people from building houses near it? Hell NO! The real estate market seems to be
booming. During the volcanic eruption at the beginning of this year, the authorities acted fast
    and evacuated the population.
    #8 Kawa Ijen

And now we go to Indonesia, where you have the world’s largest sulfuric acid lake with a PH of
0.5. What does that mean? Well, if you put a can of coke in the lake, you can hear it sizzling like
a strip of bacon on a hot skillet.
These lakes were formed by the sulfuric mines located on the 3 volcanoes. The lake has been
formed on one of them and it’s completely uninhabited by wild life. This lake is the source for
the Banyupahit river, which devastates the ecosystem in the river as well.
There is one man, George Kourounis who dared take a rubber boat across the lake, where he
measured the PH level of the water and it turns out it lower that 0.13.
    #7 Blue Lake

The lake that is inhabited by a dragon at its very bottom. It is also considered as the bottomless lake by
some due to its undiscovered depth. Many expeditions have been made to uncover the actual depth of
the Blue Lake, but no one has managed to do so, because the pressure difference is around 20
    atmospheres (ATM).
World diving expeditions have been made in the belly of this lake, but most of them ended in tragedy.
Andre Rodionov lost his life during the expedition and Martin Robson had to fight for his life after
making a 685 feet dive and surfacing too fast, suffering from what is known as decompression sickness.
The lake holds one of the richest underwater cave complexes, and is uninhabited by fish due to
the high concentration of hydrogen sulfide that gives it a rotten smell. One peculiar thing to
know about the Blue Lake is that is has a constant temperature of 9 degrees Celsius.

    #6 Boiling Lake (dominica)

This lake is, believe it or not, a World Heritage Site on the island of Dominica. It is the world’s second
largest hot lake with temperatures reaching from around 180 F to around 230 F where the water is the
hottest. This is caused by the fact that the lake is located on top of a volcano, which is active on the
inside, and the temperature of the hot lava heats up the water to a rolling boil.

15 Most Mysterious Lakes On Earth:

Why This Tiny Lake Is the Scariest on Earth:

5 Most Horrifyingly Mysterious Lakes In The World!

    Number 5:

We start our journey in British Columbia, Canada. As you can probably tell by looking at it, the lake gets its name from all the spots. Spotted Lake is richly concentrated with various minerals deposits, including small amounts of silver and titanium. During the summer, most of the water in the lake evaporates which reveals colourful mineral deposits. Large “spots” on the lake appear and are colored according to the minerals.

    Number 4: Taal Lake!

Now we travel to the island of Luzon in the Philippines to find Taal Lake. It was formerly known as Bombón Lake. This lake is a freshwater lake in the province of Batangas. Ever since its first discovery, there have been myths about its formation. It is the largest lake in the world, surrounding an island, which is also a volcanic one. An old legend linked to the lake comes from a story about a wise old man, Lakan Taal, who was appointed as the leader of the town of Tagaytay. He forbade any townsman to set foot on a distant mountain, an upland thriving with natural resources. Owing to his reputation, no one disobeyed his order, until one beautiful day, when he mysteriously disappeared. Years passed, but he was never found. Deciding they could wait no more, villagers decided to search the forbidden mountain, where they chanced upon a hole in the soil, overflowing with precious rubies, diamonds and pearls. Filled with greed, the villagers began to fight over the newly discovered wealth. That is when Lakan Taal appeared, disappointed at finding this inevitable yet predictable outcome. In a rage, he wished calamity upon his people, and soon the skies turned grey, thunder rattled, and a violent earthquake throttled the mountain, spilling fire and ending every last villager. Water engulfed the mountain from every corner, submerging the stones.

    Number 3: Lake Natron

For this entry we are traveling to Tanzania. It may look like something out of a movie or a nightmare, but this lake is very much real. With an average temperature of 40 °C (104 °F), most animals keep clear of this lake. The secret to this lake lies in the makeup of its water. The lake is jammed with many natural but unhealthy chemicals. Whenever a bird or animal strays in to quench its thirst in the lake, the boiling water takes the animal, submerging its body beneath the depths.

    Number 2: Groom Lake

Located in the Nevada Desert, just north of the infamous Area 51, Groom Lake is actually a dried lake known as a salt flat. But considering how close it is to one of the most mysterious places in the world, we think it qualifies for this list. Because of how close Groom Lake is to Area 51, it is swept up in the area’s clandestine activities. To this day no one is still sure exactly what goes on at the mysterious Area 51. Does Elvis live there with a bunch of little green men?

Coming at Number 1: Lake Hillier

Finally we make our last stop in Western Australia. That is where we find Lake Hillier in the Recherche Archipelago, surrounded by eucalyptus trees which makes the lake’s pink colour stand out even more. That’s right; this lake is not just pink but bubble gum pink. Lake Hillier was visited by the Matthew Flinders' expedition on 15 January 1802. His journal entries are considered to be the first written records of the lake. By looking at this incredible body of water, you are no doubt curious as to what causes this. But there’s actually an explanation for the lake’s appearance. Scientists believe that the hue is emitted by a dye that was created by bacteria festering in the lake’s depths.

    #5 Lake Michigan Mysteries
Of the five Great Lakes of North America, this is the only one that is found entirely within the United States. These waters are also home to an phenomenon that is referred to as ‘the Michigan Triangle’, which seems to involve the speeding-up or slowing-down of time. Located in the central part of the lake, this area has been linked to several mysterious disappearances involving ships’ crew members and entire aircraft. The best known incident might be the case of a Northwest Airlines flight that passed over the area in 1950. En route from Seattle to New York City, the plane held nearly 60 passengers. But somewhere over the triangle, the aircraft suddenly vanished into thin air. Despite a thorough search being conducted neither the plane nor any passengers were ever located. Another Lake Michigan mystery involves the discovery of a series of stones located about 40 feet (12 m) below the surface. While the site has yet to be authenticated, the appearance and arrangement of the stones has inspired it to be called ‘The Underwater Stonehenge’.

    #4 Lake Baikal
The world’s deepest lake is located in Siberia and reaches a depth of nearly 5,400 feet (1,642 m). And with an age estimated at 30 million years, it’s the world’s oldest lake as well. GIven that extreme depth and age, it’s not surprising to find a few mysteries linked to this ancient site. Locals claim that a monster resembling a giant sturgeon lurks within the waters. Early explorers of the lake documented beasts referred to as ‘dragon fishes’ that were visible in the clear lake. Sightings of UFOs have been reported since at least the 1950s. And in 1982 Russian Navy divers allegedly encountered humanoid creatures that wore silvery uniforms. While this place may have a number of unexplained mysteries, one phenomenon that occurred there is 2009 did have a rational explanation. Ice circles measuring 2.7 miles (4.4 km) formed on the lake that were huge enough to be seen from outer space. It turned out to be the result of methane gases that escaped from the lake bed and formed circles in the icy surface.

    #3 Loch Ness
Here’s a deep, freshwater lakethat might serve as ground zero for cryptozoologists. The Loch Ness Monster first received global notoriety in the 1930s. But reports of a so-called ‘water beast’ at the location date back to the 565 AD. Theories as to the creature’s identity have ranged from it being a Greenland shark or a Wels catfish. More colorful theories speculate that Nessie is really a prehistoric aquatic reptile like a plesiosaurthat somehow survived to the present day. Our sources indicate that the most recently reported sighting occurred in January of 2019, although we couldn’t find any pictures of the alleged creature. A DNA survey of the lake conducted in 2018 might yield some answers. If you have any theories about Nessie, let us know in the comments!

    #2 The Vanishing Village
Located in Nunavut Canada, Angikuni Lake is noted for its rugged, rocky outcroppings. It’s also notable for being the location of a strange event that may or may not have taken place. In 1930 a newsman from Manitoba reported about a small village of Inuits that was known to welcome fur trappers who passed through. But when a fur trapper familiar with the village arrived there later that year, he claimed that all the inhabitants had mysteriously vanished. When the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) later searched for the missing villagers, no one was even found. In the years following, the RCMP dismissed the case as an urban legend and the story was largely forgotten. Did a village ever exist there? Tell us your thoughts in the comments below!

  • 11 Most Terrifying Lakes on Earth

    10:19

Lakes usually instill a feeling of calm and serenity with their clear water and light breezes. When you imagine a lake, the first thing that probably comes to mind is a calm pool of water where you can swim, sail, or just sit and enjoy the beauty. But are all lakes safe? Well, we don’t think you’ll wanna go anywhere near the lakes we’re gonna tell you about, let alone take a dip in their dangerous waters!

Have you ever heard, for example, about the Boiling Lake? Located in Dominica’s Morne Trois Pitons National Park, this lake can reach temperatures of 197°F along the edges. One more really dangerous lake is located in Africa. Weather conditions over it change so rapidly and without any warning that even experienced sailors have no idea when to expect danger...

    SUMMARY:
    - Dubbed the most polluted place on earth, Lake Karachay is no body of water you want to be anywhere near. And that’s because it was chosen as a dumping site for radioactive waste back in the 1950s.
    - Rakshastal is so salty that literally nothing can survive in its waters, and those who live in nearby villages consider it poisonous.
    - If there’s a really notorious lake on our planet, it’s definitely Lake Natron. First of all, the water can get as hot as 120°F, the red stuff is salt so it’s certainly not a freshwater lake, and its pH level is about 10.5. This makes it so alkaline that very few creatures can live in it.
    - There are lakes surrounded by lush forests and green pastures, and then there’s Horseshoe Lake that only has dead trees for hundreds of feet around. This lake is among the deadliest in the world because of its CO2 emissions.
    - Lake Nyos is one of the 3 explosive lakes we know about. Its CO2 deposits at the bottom are quite dangerous, and even the smallest earthquake can trigger their release.
    - Lake of the Ozarks located in central Missouri actually holds a dark secret: it’s downright poisonous! The concentration of E. coli bacteria in its water is so high that you can get sick just by swimming in it.
    - Lake Michigan isn’t as safe as you think. Its underwater currents can be so rapid that if you swim in it, you won’t even have time to react when something grabs you and pulls you into the watery depths.
    - Just like Lake Nyos, Kivu is an exploding lake and one of the It holds not only CO2 at its bottom but also about 1.94 trillion cubic feet of methane, an extremely explosive gas.
    - There’s nothing toxic, explosive, or extremely hot about the waters of Lake Champlain. You see, Champlain is home to hundreds, if not thousands, of lampreys. Lampreys are blood-sucking parasites that latch onto their prey to feed.

  • 10 Scariest Waters In the World

    6:52

Most people can’t imagine their vacation without some body of water nearby, be it a lake or an ocean. However, there are waters on our planet that can be deadly for revelers. If you aren’t satisfied with these, watch till the end for a savory bonus.

    TIMESTAMPS
    Great Blue Hole, Belize 0:52
    Jacob’s Well, Texas, USA 1:26
    Lake Michigan, USA 1:55
    Lake Natron, Tanzania 2:29
    Blue Hole, Dahab 3:04
    Horseshoe Lake, USA 3:39
    Boiling Lake, Dominica 4:05
    Rio Tinto, Portugal/Spain 4:32
    Drake Passage 5:10
    Lake Kivu 5:46
    Water creatures 6:11

    SUMMARY
    - Tides turn the Great Blue Hole into a huge vortex that draws in everything on the surface, while ebbs make it spout huge columns of water. Despite all this, though, there still are many who want to see this hole because Jacques Cousteau himself called it one of the best places for diving on Earth.
    - This 30-foot deep natural well with crystal clear water is one of the most dangerous diving places in the world. At the bottom of Jacob’s Well, there are several entrances to a broad network of caves that many are unable to leave.
    - Lake Michigan is almost as notorious as the Bermuda Triangle because it’s over this lake that one of the most horrible air crashes in North America occurred for no logical reasons.
    - Lake Natron is one of the saltiest and most alkaline lakes on Earth, covered with a salt crust that’s sometimes colored red. The water temperature reaches 120°F (50°C) in certain places, which makes it, along with alkalinity, almost unfit for life. Only three kinds of fish live here, adapting to the extreme conditions.
    - The Blue Hole is possibly the most dangerous place for diving in the world as many divers have died in this 400-foot deep cave. Experienced divers say, though, that properly trained people with experience can dive without fear: the cause of death is usually nitrogen narcosis or insufficient air capacity upon ascent.
    - The carbon dioxide emitted from the fissures in the bottom of Horseshoe Lake is deadly for everything. The lake was the cause of death of four people, as well as trees growing 100 acres around it. The danger is announced by signs all around.
    - This mountain lake located eight hours from the ground may heat up to 198°F (92°C) due to hot air spurts from beneath the ground — they often neighbor with lava. Swimming in the lake is strictly prohibited even if there are no characteristic bubbles on its surface because boiling starts in a matter of seconds.
    - Fossil excavation that has been carried out at the head of the Tinto River for more than 3,000 years lead to it being saturated with copper, iron, and heavy metals, with the acidity leaping sky-high.
    - Lots of icebergs, wind speeds reaching 80 miles per hour, strong currents, and poor visibility are part of the ordeal that ships going through the Drake Passage must survive.
    - This seemingly peaceful lake keeps a deadly secret: there are layers of CO2 in it and 55 billion cubic meters of methane at the bottom. Even the slightest earthquake may cause a huge explosion capable of evaporating over 2 million people living around Kivu.
BONUS: If you ever decide to swim in a river, lake, or just about any other body of water, make sure to check if it is safe to bathe there.
Even places that attract tourists may well be infested with lampreys, hagfish, leeches, or other unpleasant fauna.
