  • Slow Motion Flipping Cat Physics | Smarter Every Day 58

    6:26

High Speed video. Cats. Physics. Weightlessness. Of all my videos, if you don't share this one, you probably never will. Please consider sharing by clicking here: GiGi was not hurt during the making of this video. We took great care to make sure she would be safe. Next I'll explain how the physics involved in flipping cats allow us to operate Space Telescopes (Seriously).
So as simple of a question as this is, it turns out to be a MAJOR POINT OF STUDY in Physics, Robotics, Space Satellite Control, Weapons Development, Biomedical Engineering, etc. It's stumped scientists and engineers since Newton's day. Here's something interesting. The cat isn't twisting his back.. he's actually BENDING it. The next video will go into great detail about what's going on there, and explain how it relates to studying the farthest points in the universe (Seriously... the fact that a cat can do this allows us to study the Universe.. no exaggeration).

The high speed camera used was a Phantom Miro M320S. Rent one yourself by clicking here: Tell them GiGi the cat sent you

It's pretty clear to me that Flula is misunderstood. His content is very intelligent and he consistently puts out clever, unique, and interesting content so I decided to contact him and see if he was willing meet up. I'd love to see him be successful.

All slow motion sound design and Audio Engineering was done by Gordon McGladdery of A Shell In the Pit. He designed all the slow motion lip warble sounds from scratch.

I shot Flula's lips at 1,500 Frames per second with a Phantom MIRO LC320S made by Vision Research:

The sine wave and square wave graphic was designed by Will Leahy
He has a website, but there's nothing there: He's working on it.

The technical sound data was fact checked by: I said some things wrong initially. I confused Additive Synthesis and Filtering. Gordon McGladdery and these guys got me back on track.

Timbre is basically the wastebasket that Audio Engineers throw all the stuff that they don't really know how to categorize into anything else. It's the color of the sound. Take a minute and read about it:

Spectrograms are created by a math operation known as a Fourier Transform. If you don't know what a FFT is, you really should. Read a bit about shifting stuff from the time to the frequency domain.

The stick rigidity data collected by Dr. Evans and I is not a formal reflection on the manufacturers because the sticks were previously used and we could not find an ASTM standard to setup our test. The possibility exists that I put the support positions too close together, which would make the values lower. The players however gave us the sticks because they were so used they were now flimsy. Our data reflected this. If I had it to do over again I would test a new stick vs an old stick. Kettering University has done some research on this subject and we tried to setup our test apparatus similar to theirs. They applied the force to the foot of the stick. We applied the force to the center.

I thought this was a great video of a product that has normalized the process by constraining the 1 inch deflection measurement.

  • See Thru Engine Runs Tequila, 151, and Propane - in 4K Slow Motion

    6:56

See Through Engine with Glass Head in Slow Motion Running other fuels, Tequila 151 and Propane, Slow Motion visible internal combustion engine. This time we are back with the original see-through engine and we're going to be burning some different fuels, as seen on the Discovery Channel, first one is tequila, second one is propane then 151 and then we go back to regular gasoline to show the beautiful yellow combustion process in slow motion.
We made this glass head for a Briggs and Stratton engine to make the combustion process visible.

Watching this see-through engine in slow motion and super slow motion gives you a great visual understanding of how the combustion process in a 4-stroke engine works.
Here is a link to the original see-through engine in slow motion video.

Original - See Through Engine In Slow Motion:

This Is a Briggs and Stratton Internal Combustion Engine With a Glass Head so you can see just how and engine really works and the internal engine combustion process when we use our Phantom to film inside the engine in High Speed .

My goal here was to present the information in an extremely respectful way. Every man should know this. We've all heard the if it last longer than 4 hours advertisements.....this the science behind why 4 hours is so important. Priapism is a real thing and the Brazilian Wandering spider ( can make it happen.

Filmed on location in the Rainforests of Eastern Peru. To be clear, we had to go out at night and actively seek out these types of creatures. You should still go to the Rainforest.. for real. It was massive fun and I would love to do it again.

    A quick clarification....
It took me 8 months to learn how to do this, but I was only picking up the bike and running to the end of the driveway and back every day. I wasn't ACTIVELY trying to learn. Meaning... I wasn't struggling and trying to make my brain learn. I simply got on the bike every day, tried to operate it to the end of the driveway, turned around and tried to operate it back. The goal was to understand how my brain figured things out on its own, without trying to force it to. Many people have built bikes like this and figured it out in much less than 1 day by staying on the bike until they were able to master it. I had no timelines, and was using this as an exploratory activity to learn how I learn.

Do not misinterpret this to mean that I struggled and tried very hard every day for 8 months. That's simply not true.

Instead of saving for my kids' college, I make videos using the money I would have saved.
The thought is it will help educate the world as a whole, and one day generate enough revenue to pay for their education. Until then if you appreciate what you've learned in this video and the effort that went in to it, please share the video. • See Thru Car on Nitrous Races C43 AMG

    13:56

I set up nitrous on the see-through car and then go up against a C43 AMG with and without NOS in a Drag Race in this episode of Warped Perception.

I guess it's kind of like weight reduction versus Power and the results are very interesting, seeing as my E-Class Mercedes puts out much less power then the C43 AMG I won the Races by more than a car and a half.

I also end up finally repairing the transmission by changing the conductor plate, installing a set of Hoosier slicks, and installing wet fogger nitrous kit by Zex.

This episode is basically to show everybody how nitrous oxide is used on a car and why people use it, and simply put it's bolt-on power, as I demonstrate in this episode you can clearly see the difference with and without Nitrous.

In this episode I first set up the race, then I end up fixing the conductor plate in the transmission, then I mount some Hoosier slicks, and then last but not least I install the nitrous kit and go up for another round of races against the C43 AMG who also has nitrous.
