    The stick rigidity data collected by Dr. Evans and I is not a formal reflection on the manufacturers because the sticks were previously used and we could not find an ASTM standard to setup our test. The possibility exists that I put the support positions too close together, which would make the values lower. The players however gave us the sticks because they were so used they were now flimsy. Our data reflected this. If I had it to do over again I would test a new stick vs an old stick. Kettering University has done some research on this subject and we tried to setup our test apparatus similar to theirs. They applied the force to the foot of the stick. We applied the force to the center.

    I thought this was a great video of a product that has normalized the process by constraining the 1 inch deflection measurement.

He has reminders setup in his phone when local fast food chains have Dollar Hot Dog day. It's quite funny, but deep down I'm jealous of how clever it is.

    Videos like this don't just happen. They require lots of time, and lots of favors from very smart and kind people willing to help me and you learn. PLEASE take a moment and read the following information and support those who supported me.

    This is the camera we used for the ultra-high speed shots. It has the FAST option.

    You absolutely have to check out the stuff Cal Makes. We're just goofing off in this video, but the guy is some type of glass wizard genius. It would make me happy if you bought something from him and he felt like the audience appreciated all the time he donated to this video. He basically gave me 2 entire nights of his entire shop.

    I feel like we're friends at this point, and he is open to the idea of doing more videos in the future and teach me more about what he knows about glass. Let's make it worth his time.

    I'm a HUGE FAN of the song Gordon wrote for this video. His landlord would really appreciated if you downloaded it so he could make rent this month.

    It looks like he's assembling a new album that I may like more than Mammals:

    Show him some love.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    This video involved about 2 months of research, and me reaching out to several individuals. I would like to thank everyone who took time out of their schedule to contribute to my wacky research. A big thanks to the following people:
    My wife and kids. I'm sorry this took so long and I wasn't the kind of active father I want to be during the 5 weeks it took to make this.
    Dr. Martyn Poliakoff for getting me access to documents which details experiments on the Prince Rupert's Drop by the Royal Society
    (behind a pay wall)
    Being able to calculate the failure front velocity of a Prince Rupert's drop is a pretty big deal. For years this was a scientific mystery. High speed camera technology is only recently fast enough to provide data like this. Thanks to Vision Research for letting me use the V1610 to try to unravel this mystery for the public in general.
    Rob Kuefner for reaching out to me and offering to convert certain equations into LaTeX format for me.
    Dr. Jeff Evans from UAH. A friend and neighbor who just happens to have a PhD and be an expert in fracture mechanics. Thank you for helping me by pointing me in the right direction in the early stages of my research. It's time we hangout again.
    Brian: thanks for letting me use your green screen and telling me about Orbix in the first place. I stayed up there til about 1 or 2 am two nights in a row acting stupid in front of of the camera all alone. Now that I look back at that footage without the context of this video, it's all very strange.
    Thanks to Loïc Samuel for taking time to make the custom TNT Degradation graphic!
    P.S. There was some old guy walking around the track at the park when I was filming me jumping on the bridge railing. I'm pretty sure you kept walking until I was done just to make sure you wouldn't have to take me to the hospital if I broke my leg. I'll never meet you again, but I'm grateful for this kind gesture you didn't know I noticed.
  • Sound Design | Enhance Your Design EP.1 | Professional Creates Slow Motion Guns & Reload
    19:18
    Yo yo! So I decided to put my money where my mouth is and did my best to show you guys how I would design this slow motion gunshot and reload moment from the previous Reel Review (EP.1)! If you're new to sound design or trying to find tutorials or courses, you've come to the right place! My channel is all about helping people create the best sounds possible!
    ***This video was shot very late at night and with family members who I'm quarantining with who were sleeping, so my voice and energy are a bit lower in this one. I hope you still stick around for the video as I think there's a lot of good stuff to learn and share in there!
    I have been a professional sound designer for 6+ years now, working with some of the industry's top talent. I currently still work for a very successful trailer company and am unable to reveal any of our trade secrets, but I have still learned enough on my own while in the industry to hopefully help you become even better at the craft!
    Even if you're already a professional, this content is made to help expand and share ideas, concepts, and creative visions... so by all means, let's chat! I'd love to hear your own tips and ideas, and I answer each and every comment so I'm looking forward to chatting :)
    If you have a sound design question, scene you're having trouble with, or a reel that you'd like me to review - reach out! Leave me a comment, or email me: braden@bradenparkes.com
    In this tutorial I aim to give practical, easy-to-approach advice for creating awesome slow motion gun shots and slomo reloads. We use Boom library sounds to create big metal sounding hits which translate well to a shooting gun. I also give very useful tips for editing complex sequences like this, by placing markers where your transient moments need to happen so you can organize all of your elements into super cool, yet cohesive moments. When too many transients are staggered around things quickly lose impact and become busy and unfocused.
    If you can't afford libraries like boom and want to record your source material instead, get a decent recording setup or even a handheld recorder, and find some big cool metal stuff either around your house or somewhere out in the wild :) Record it in a very high sample rate, and do close up and distant recordings. Record all variations of movement of the metal and you should be able to pitch it down and process it just like I did!
    If you don't have or can't afford filter freak, you can always hand-automate your EQ to give it the surreal effect!
    Remember I will answer EVERY comment that asks a question, so if I leave anything out in these videos or you just want to say hi, please feel free! The goal here isn't for me to show off or build myself up; but to build a helpful and encouraging community that we can all gain inspiration and guidance from. I am very open to learning stuff from you guys, so please share any tips or tricks you have or can think of during these videos!
    Everything show in the above video is purely for entertainment, I do not guarantee any specific results or outcomes from it. If there are any copyright or trademark issues please contact me directly at my business address listed on my YouTube profile and I will happily work with you to resolve it!
    Thanks and much love,
    Braden
