We stopped by 3-ish other locations nearby (we lost count and there are many in Seoul), but they were either packed or had no indoor seating options.   • What You Need To Know Before You Eat Another Bite Of Shrimp

    Americans love shrimp — it's the most consumed seafood in this country, after all. But a devotion to eating shrimp comes with more than a few downsides, from health-related problems, to environmental concerns, to human rights violations. Here's what you need to know before you take another bite.

    You may not think much about the dietary implications of shrimp, even as you're mowing through a pound-and-a-half of peel-and-eat. After all, nothing that small could possibly be bad for you, right?

    Here's something that might give you pause if you're worried about your heart: In spite of their small size, what shrimp lack in calories they make up for in weirdly high cholesterol. According to Healthline, 3.5 ounces of shrimp equals around 200 milligrams of cholesterol — a, quote, full day's allotment for people watching their heart health .

    In spite of those high numbers, some research suggests that because shrimp are so low in total fat and contain no saturated fat, a shrimp-heavy diet may actually be healthier overall than, say, an egg-based diet. The cholesterol numbers alone shouldn't dissuade you from knocking out a shrimp cocktail from time to time.

    Shrimp fisheries in the United States are clean, well-regulated, and safe. Unfortunately, if you're eating shrimp, it's likely been imported from countries with little to no industry regulations — like Thailand, Vietnam, and India. How many shrimp come from such places, you ask? A whopping 92 percent of the shrimp eaten in the United States — that's how many! And because the U.S. maintains the most open marketplace for sketchy shrimp, we often import the discards from the European Union and Japan at rock-bottom prices.

    So what's wrong with that all-you-can-eat fried shrimp platter that costs less than a slice of pizza? Well, let's let the numbers do the talking: In a random test conducted by ABC News and Texas Tech University which examined 30 samples of imported shrimp purchased at the supermarket. They concluded:

    Two samples of farm-raised shrimp from India and Thailand tested positive for nitrofurazone, an antibiotic that's a known carcinogen, at levels 28 and 29 times higher than those allowed by the FDA. Another antibiotic, chloramphenicol, was detected at levels 150 times the legal limit [which has] been banned in food production in the U.S. because of possible severe side effects such as aplastic anemia and leukemia.

    Not all foods are yummy pizzas, creamy cakes, and chickens, you know. There are exotic ones as well, limited to people with the nerves to eat them. While some of these foods have a questionable threat to the species they’re made from, some are quite poisonous. It’s not even clear why many people eat them in the first place and of course, not all of them are allowed in the United States of America. Eating them in the States would mean breaking the law. So, learn more about them with the top 10 foods you’re not allowed to eat in the US!
    Number 10: Casu Marzu – The Rotten Cheese
    Delicious cuisines like the gooey macaroni, raclette, and pizza lined with fresh mozzarella would be nothing without their rich, full-bodied cheeses. But while there are many reasons to eat more cheese, would you love to try one with a side of maggots? If no, then it would be a Solomon thing to do if you stay far away from Casu Marzu. It’s a cheese that originated from the Island of Sardinia in Italy. Among the locals, Casu Marzu translates to “rotten cheese,” and no name can be more appropriate because it’s made from maggots. Yes, you heard that right, live wriggling, fresh, cold-blooded maggots! Like all cheese, it is made from the same fermentation process. But after the process, it is left to fester among thousands of maggots. The aim of the “maggot process,” is to soften the texture of the cheese and allow the liquid to seep out. But then, this does much worse than good. Maggots can survive inside a human intestine. Consuming an unhealthy one might pose serious health problems. So, it’s no wonder why it’s banned in the U.S.

    Number 9: The Original Haggis
    According to a Survey in 2003, 33% of American tourists in Scotland thought Haggis was a kind of animal. So, don’t be too alarmed if you don't know what it means. But unlike many believed, Haggis is a savory pudding prepared from the liver, heart, and lungs of a sheep, spiced with the perfect mix of suet, minced onions, oatmeal, and many more. The meal itself is then presented to guests within the stomach of that very sheep. Traditionally, Haggis is the convention cuisine consumed in Scotland on Burns Night, meant to celebrate a Scottish poet called Robert Burns. But on this very night, Scotsmen living in the United States are always forced to celebrate their heritage without Haggis. Reason: it was banned over 40 years ago. The ban was put in place after sheep’s lungs were tested to contain some microbial-rich gunk that could be very bad for good health over time. But while the real Haggis is only available on black markets that could land you in trouble, lung-free Haggis can be found in the US markets. You can even order those from Amazon.

    Number 8: Shark Fins
    Believe it or not, Shark finning is also a thing. It involves slicing off the fins of a live shark. Afterward, the wounded animal would be tossed overboard with no treatment whatsoever. Luckily, it might survive if one of the fins remains. But most times, it dies in the pool of its blood or gets eaten by predators. The reserved fin would then serve as the major ingredient in Shark fin soup, common in several Asian countries like China until recently. Considering how much pain an innocent animal had to endure to make nice delicacy for people with exotic tastes, we see no reason why such cruelty should be allowed. The United States government took justice to that effect some 20 years ago to reduce the rate at which the shark’s population dwindled by the day. But even though Shark fin soup has been banned in about 12 different states in the U.S, it’s still on the menu. With just a little above $15 or thereabout, you can order an oddly delicious Shark soup in some cities anytime you feel in the mood. Sad!

    Number 7: Kinder Surprise Egg
    Ok. Here’s one banned food that many Americans are upset about. Simply known as Kinder Egg, Kinder Surprises are egg-shaped chocolates with collectible toys on the inside. They’re made in Italy by a candy maker who went by the famous brand, named Ferrero. Yup, the same firm that looks well after Nutella. Kinder eggs are sold in several parts of the world. But the US government will not just allow it. Although, they have some oddly genuine reasons to be concerned. As they claimed, the edible toy mixed with the yummy chocolate lined with a layer of cream poses choking hazards to small kids who might mistake them for food. But many United States citizens don’t seem to agree with that simple fact. Many argued the gifts inside the Kinder surprises were too big for a child to choke on.

    Wanna know where a steak comes from? My dog shabu will demonstrate. Here's my complete guide to steaks:

    Remember: eat your steak the way you want it, not what someone else tells you you should want. And FFS, if anyone starts giving you grief about preferring your steak medium or even well-done, just block them out of your life or at least out of your dinner. It's your steak, cook it as much or as little as you want.

    Personally, I find that the higher the fat content, the more well-done I like it (maxing out at about med-rare to medium for a really fatty ribeye or wagyu).

    I just went with a traditional butter-basted technique for this one, rather than the reverse sear, a technique I developed for Cook's Illustrated in 2006. If you want to know more about that method, here's a guide:

    On our recent trip to Whole Foods, Hiro wanted to buy sushi items to make sushi at home. Whole foods is on the high end of grocers and offers top tier items compared even to Publix.

    Sadly, the sushi items Hiro bought for around $60.00 were all a waste. The rice and tuna were the worst part and inedible. The salmon and shrimp were ok, but the cost vs value was insane.

    Both tuna and salmon were selling for $16.99 for 8oz! That would make them $34.00 a pound! If that isn't the highest price for this! Better off spending your money at a Omakase restaurant and enjoy Toro until you drop...

    It doesn't matter what your intentions are when you go to a buffet, or how fancy of a buffet you choose, they're always a bit of a minefield. Here's what you need to know to get the most out of your trip to the buffet — whether you're trying to watch your waistline, or just not get sick.

    It's so tough to resist grabbing a few pieces of fried chicken or loading up a plate with those crispy, delicious egg rolls, but according to Rene Ficek of Seattle Sutton's Healthy Eating, loading up on fried goodness is definitely a mistake. But not exactly for the reason you think. All fried food is bad, but buffet fried food is even worse.

    Buffets are cooking everything in bulk, and they're going to try to cut back on their costs where they can. That means they're using the cheapest oil they can find to fill their fryers, which churns out fried dishes that are likely to have the maximum amount of artery-clogging nastiness possible. Ficek explains:

    Every time you put something in a deep fryer, it acts like a sponge and soaks up as much grease and saturated and trans fat as possible.

    Doesn't sound so appetizing now, does it?

  • Fresh Tuna vs Frozen Tuna - Whats the Difference?

    What's the difference between Fresh Tuna vs Frozen Tuna? The biggest giveaway is the color and texture. Frozen tuna is light in color, almost like a pink color; many of your favorite restaurants are using it too. This is not to be confused with tuna belly, otherwise known as Toro which is the most prized part of the ocean on any fish. Toro comes from larger tuna that are over 200 pounds and up; it's found mostly on Bluefin Tuna and you can actually see the white marbling in the meat. If you haven't tried it, you need to asap and know why this part of the tuna is most sought after in the whole world.

    Is there anything wrong with using frozen tuna? Well, first of all, it's a third the price of fresh tuna, and the water content on it is very high. It's not the taste you're looking for so if you're wondering why the tuna at most of those Thai/Sushi joints, fast food or buffets serve this light pink color tuna, that has no taste, there's your answer.

    The positives for using frozen tuna for businesses are many fold; it's 1/3 the price, easy to manage (just thaw what you need) and holds for a long time. The fish is actually gassed with Carbon Dioxide to preserve the color. There's absolutely nothing positive for you as a consumer, to be eating this type of tuna at a reputable sushi restaurant.

    Fresh tuna only holds for a few days; if a restaurant doesn't sell it, it won't last long and you're going to need to discard it, but the color, texture and taste is amazing. The meat is firm, not flaky and if you were to try each side by side, you could tell right away.

    Lastly, many of you might now know but Tuna DOES NOT NEED to be frozen before serving it raw. According the the Florida Health Department, there are only several species of fish that can be eaten completely raw; Bluefin Tuna, Yellowfin Tuna, Big Eye Tuna, and farm raised Salmon that is fed pellets.     As many of you know fish is one of my favorite and this ninja foodi fish recipe is awesome in every possible way. this simple baked fish recipe is easy to make and it’ll bring an amazing quantity the fish flavors and aromas to your table. The ninja foodi once again does an amazing job with this simple recipe that anyone can do at home!

    This baked fish was done in minimum time, everyone can do it and have an amazing diner ready really quick.

    Ninja Foodi Fish Recipe:
    1/4 cup of cilantro
    1/2 onion
    2 garlic cloves
    1 teaspoon of butter
    1 tablespoon of old spices
    4 limes
    Salt
    Pepper
    Spread the butter inside the fish
    Add the garlic cut in little pieces to the fish
    Add the onions cut in little pieces to the fish
    Add the cilantro (or culantro if you can’t find cilantro) cut in little pieces to the fish
    Make some cuts to the side of the fish and add the salt, pepper and old spices to it
    Do the same thing on the other side of the fish
    Set your aluminum foil on the table and add some fines cut limes on it.
    Sit the fish right on top of the limes and add more fine cut limes on the top.
    Wrap the fish with the aluminum foil
    Set it in the Ninja Foodi for 20 mins on bake/roast at 400˚F/205˚C
    After 20 mins open the aluminum foil and bake/roast it for 5 more minutes at 400˚F/205˚C
    It is all done!
