  • Artificial intelligence and algorithms: pros and cons | DW Documentary

    42:32

Developments in artificial intelligence (AI) are leading to fundamental changes in the way we live. Algorithms can already detect Parkinson's disease and cancer, and control both cars and aircraft. How will AI change our society in the future?

This documentary journeys to the hot spots of AI research in Europe, the USA and China, and looks at the revolutionary developments which are currently taking place. The rapid growth of AI offers many opportunities, but also many dangers. AI can be used to create sound and video recordings which will make it more and more difficult to distinguish between fact and fiction. It will make the world of work more efficient and many professions superfluous. Algorithms can decide whether to grant loans, who is an insurance risk, and how good employees are. But there is a huge problem: humans can no longer comprehend how algorithms arrive at their decisions. And another big problem is AI’s capacity for widespread surveillance. The Chinese city of Rongcheng is already using an AI-supported 'social credit system' to monitor and assess its citizens. Does AI pose a danger to our personal freedoms or democracy? Which decisions can we leave to the algorithms - and which do we want to? And what are AI’s social implications?

A documentary by Tilman Wolff und Ranga Yogeshwar

  • AlphaGo - The Movie | Full award-winning documentary

    1:30:28

With more board configurations than there are atoms in the universe, the ancient Chinese game of Go has long been considered a grand challenge for artificial intelligence.

On March 9, 2016, the worlds of Go and artificial intelligence collided in South Korea for an extraordinary best-of-five-game competition, coined The DeepMind Challenge Match. Hundreds of millions of people around the world watched as a legendary Go master took on an unproven AI challenger for the first time in history.

Directed by Greg Kohs and with an original score by Academy Award nominee Hauschka, AlphaGo had its premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival. It has since gone on to win countless awards and near universal praise for a story that chronicles a journey from the halls of Oxford, through the backstreets of Bordeaux, past the coding terminals of DeepMind in London, and ultimately, to the seven-day tournament in Seoul. As the drama unfolds, more questions emerge: What can artificial intelligence reveal about a 3000-year-old game? What can it teach us about humanity?

    Find out more:

I want my style of Go to be something different, something new, my own thing, something that no one has thought of before. Lee Sedol, Go Champion (18 World Titles).

We think of DeepMind as kind of an Apollo program effort for AI. Our mission is to fundamentally understand intelligence and recreate it artificially. Demis Hassabis, Co-Founder & CEO, DeepMind.

The Game of Go is the holy grail of artificial intelligence. Everything we've ever tried in AI, it just falls over when you try the game of Go. Dave Silver, Lead Researcher for AlphaGo.

  • Artificial intelligence and its ethics | DW Documentary

    42:31

Are we facing a golden digital age or will robots soon run the world? We need to establish ethical standards in dealing with artificial intelligence - and to answer the question: What still makes us as human beings unique?

Mankind is still decades away from self-learning machines that are as intelligent as humans. But already today, chatbots, robots, digital assistants and other artificially intelligent entities exist that can emulate certain human abilities. Scientists and AI experts agree that we are in a race against time: we need to establish ethical guidelines before technology catches up with us. While AI Professor Jürgen Schmidhuber predicts artificial intelligence will be able to control robotic factories in space, the Swedish-American physicist Max Tegmark warns against a totalitarian AI surveillance state, and the philosopher Thomas Metzinger predicts a deadly AI arms race. But Metzinger also believes that Europe in particular can play a pioneering role on the threshold of this new era: creating a binding international code of ethics.

  • The Age of Superhumans - Gene Editing Through CRISPR & AI

    10:02

Superhumans are coming! Various technological advances in the field of medicine through AI and CRISPR are going to radically alter our understanding of what it means to be human. AI and Crispr technology have been making revolutionary changes to the field of medicine. Artificial intelligence is being applied in identification of harmful genes and treatment of disease.

Multiple new gene editing technologies in addition to artificial intelligence will cause major changes in healthcare.
The gene-editing tool CRISPR, short for clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats, could help us to reprogram life. It gives scientists more power and precision than they have ever had to alter human DNA.

Could it be conceivable that at one point in the future we could increase the average IQ of the population?
CRISPR technology in the future could enable efficient and affordable treatment of many diseases. It will be also probably used to enhance our intelligence.

CRISPR was originally designed as a technique for editing the DNA of living organisms, but its uses and capabilities have expanded substantially. It is now used widely in biomedical research, including research into human genetics. One of the main issues concerning technologies such as CRISPR-Cas9 is accuracy and safety, as mistakes can have significant and dangerous consequences when it comes to an individual’s genome.

David Sinclair explains the mind boggling breakthroughs of medicine in recent times.

The possibility of altering the sequences of genes and correcting the mistakes that were previously irreversible opens many new possibilities for research. Nevertheless, for now, genetic editing technology is still incapable of making the hundreds of changes presumably necessary to make a superintelligent human. But the corresponding ethical issues deserve serious attention before these capabilities become a reality.

  • TIMELAPSE OF FUTURE TECHNOLOGY: 2022 - 4000+

    17:03

The journey to see future technology starts in 2022, when Elon Musk and SpaceX send the first Starship to Mars - beginning the preparations for the arrival of the first human explorers.

We see the evolution of space exploration, from NASA's Artemis mission, humans landing on Mars, and the interplanetary internet system going online. To the launch of the Starshot Alpha Centauri program, and quantum computers designing plants that can survive on Mars.

On Earth, tech evolves with quantum computers and Neaulink chips. People begin living with bio-printed organs. Humans record every part of lives from birth. And inner speech recording becomes possible.

And what about predictions further out into the future, when humans become level 2 and level 3 civilizations. When NASA's warp drive goes live, and Mars declares independence from Earth. Will there be Dyson structures built around stars to capture their energy. Will they help power computers that can take human consciousness and download it into a quantum computer core. Allowing humanity to travel further out into space.

Quotes about the future from: Arthur C. Clarke, Stephen Hawking, Albert Einstein, and Elon Musk

  • “Coded Bias”: New Film Looks at Fight Against Racial Bias in Facial Recognition & AI Technology

    19:57

A new documentary looks at the dangers of artificial intelligence and its increasing omnipresence in daily life, as new research shows that it often reflects racist biases. Earlier this month, Cambridge, Massachusetts, became the latest major city to ban facial recognition technology, joining a growing number of cities, including San Francisco, to ban the artificial intelligence, citing flawed technology and racial and gender bias. A recent study also found that facial recognition identified African-American and Asian faces incorrectly 10 to 100 times more than white faces. The film “Coded Bias” begins with Joy Buolamwini, a researcher at the MIT Media Lab, discovering that most facial recognition software does not recognize darker-skinned or female faces. She goes on to uncover that artificial intelligence is not in fact a neutral scientific tool; instead, it internalizes and echoes the inequalities of wider society. For more on the film, we speak with Joy Buolamwini, a researcher who uses art to raise awareness on the implications of artificial intelligence and is featured in the documentary “Coded Bias,” which just premiered at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival. We also speak with Shalini Kantayya, director of “Coded Bias.”

  • EbSynth tutorial - Digital ageing visual effect using A.I

    5:46

So I’ve always been impressive how they can make actors look older or younger in blockbuster movies with the use of make up and particularly CGI.

We’ve seen it with Brad Pitt in Benjamin Button and more recently with Will Smith where we can see in the trailer for his new movie Gemini Man a much younger version of himself and he actually did a break down on his youtube channel on how the VFX team actually did it, Ill leave a link below to anyone keen to take a look.

So today I wanted to take a look and see if we could achieve similar-ish results but without the Hollywood budget - I have to give a huge shout out to Ben Marriot, a fellow Australian artist who’s open approach to design is truly inspiring, its thanks to him I now know about the program we are going to be using today - its called EbSynth and its a free tool designed to make your videos look like animated paintings. The way it works is by taking a reference frame that you’ve painted and then converts the remaining frames to match. You can also feed it multiple reference frames from throughout your video to make for a better end result.

I got very excited when I saw what this program was creating, the videos are quite surreal and they really do have this unique quality about them where it feels like so much more than just an overlay on footage, they really feel like live paintings.

But instead of creating a painting I wanted to see if we can use this tool for something else, I want too see if we can create reference frames of our actor looking old or young and feed it into the software to hopefully manipulate the rest of the footage.

Okay lets jump in and see how we go!
