»Kyrie eleison« an.

Paukendonner untermalt sanft schaukelnde Chorfragmente.

  • Berlioz: Requiem – Commemorating the 150th Anniversary of Berliozs Death

    4:22

In honor of the 150th anniversary of Berlioz's death, on March 8, 2019 John Nelson led a moving performance of his immensely powerful Requiem in St. Paul's Cathedral in London. Album and DVD now available:

The performance gathered together more than 300 musicians, including tenor Michael Spyres, the Philharmonia Orchestra, the Philharmonia Chorus, and the London Philharmonic Choir.

Of the live performance, The Times wrote: “The surpassing virtue of this performance – with the Philharmonia Orchestra and Chorus and London Philharmonic Choir magisterially conducted by John Nelson – was that both aspects, the spine-shakingly spectacular and the heart-rendingly haunting, were allowed to make their impact.”

This response was echoed in The Guardian: “An outstanding Berliozian, with a most distinguished discography to his credit, Nelson offered a noble if austere interpretation, finely negotiating the work’s extremes of dynamics and sonority, and mindful throughout of the crucial integration of devotion and drama.”

Berlioz's Requiem, one of the most gigantic works in the repertoire, borders on the epic, far from the affliction that the funerary genre implies. Resulting from an official commission, the score was premiered at the Invalides with great success: the impression was overwhelming (...), at the time of the Last Judgement, the terror produced by the five orchestras and the eight pairs of timpani accompanying the Tuba mirum (15:20) cannot be painted (...), it was of horrible grandeur enthused Berlioz. Dimitri Mitropoulos succeeded in creating a miracle in concert, conducting the choirs and the Vienna Philharmonic.

    1:26:26

Vocal ensemble Capella Cracoviensis and musical ensemble Capriccio Stravagante, both led by harpsichordist and conductor Skip Sempé, perform the program ‘Adieu, monsieur Rameau’ during the Utrecht Early Music Festival 2018. The program consists of an arrangement of the famous French requiem ‘Messe des morts’ by Jean Gilles. The arrangement, most probably done by François Rebel and François Francoeur, was made for Rameau’s memorial service. Rebel and Francoeur updated the mass by changing the instrumentation and adding movements and references.

  • N. Rosseau: Messe des Morts à Is: 4. Requiescat in Pace

    5:08

REQUIESCAT IN PACE!
