  • Mars Report: Update on NASA’s Perseverance Rover SuperCam Instrument

    Since landing on the Red Planet, NASA's Mars 2020 Perseverance rover has been hard at work analyzing rocks and soil on the floor of Jezero Crater with the SuperCam instrument. SuperCam features a rock-vaporizing laser, camera, and microphone that can gather data from a distance.

    This video provides an instrument update by Hemani Kalucha, one of the SuperCam operations team members from Caltech.

    The laser pits shown are about .009 inches (250 microns) in diameter and spaced 1/8 inch (3 millimeters) apart. Sounds of an Ingenuity Mars Helicopter flight captured by the SuperCam microphone can be heard in the video NASA’s Perseverance Rover Hears Ingenuity Mars Helicopter in Flight.

  • Mars Report: Update on NASAs Perseverance Rover SHERLOC Instrument

    NASA’s Mars 2020 Perseverance rover has been hard at work using the SHERLOC (Scanning Habitable Environments with Raman & Luminescence for Organics & Chemicals) instrument to help determine the best rocks to sample and look for signs of ancient life. Mounted on the rover's robotic arm, SHERLOC is the only instrument that can directly detect organics, which are building blocks for life. Because it characterizes the chemical composition of rocks, SHERLOC can also help scientists understand whether any of the rocks formed in an ancient habitable environment. SHERLOC features spectrometers, a laser, and cameras, including WATSON (Wide Angle Topographic Sensor for Operations and eNgineering). WATSON is a color camera that takes close-up images of rock grains and surface textures. This video provides an instrument update by Eva Scheller, one of the science team members from Caltech.

    Curiosity’s Deputy Project Scientist, Abigail Fraeman of NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Southern California, gives viewers a descriptive tour of Curiosity's location. The panorama was captured by the rover’s Mast Camera, or Mastcam, on July 3, 2021, the 3,167th Martian day, or sol, of its mission. Read the full story at:

    Curiosity landed nine years ago on August 5, 2012, with a mission to study whether different Martian environments could have supported microbial life in the ancient past, when long-lived lakes and groundwater existed within Gale Crater.

  • SpaceX INSANE NEW Plan To Visit Mars in 2024!

    Space…the final frontier that is yet to be conquered by humanity. The race to make humankind a multi-planetary species is being led by SpaceX. Elon Musk was the first to envision that the next step to human progress was to conquer the stars and colonize another planet. Elon Musk chose the red planet ―Mars as the first target for human colonization. In 2017, when Elon first proposed this huge undertaking, his goal was to get the first boots on the ground on Mars by 2022. Since then, Elon has pulled back to a more realistic 2024 timeline to reach the Red Planet. Let bore deeper into Elon Musk’s Insane New Plan to reach Mars by 2024.
    Starship: a Big Falcon Rocket
    After first revealing his plans to land on the red planet and colonize it. The first challenge Elon musk faced was how to get people and cargo there. Mars is not really in our immediate neighborhood; it is on average about a whopping 140 million miles away from earth. This is a huge distance to cover for a human-bearing rocket. Just to give scale to this distance, the moon is about 240,000 miles away.
    But the silver lining to this is that Mars and Earth's orbits do come very close to each other periodically, this event happens every two years. The event is called a close approach when Earth and Mars are nearest to each other. At this point, the distance between our home and the red planet is about 33.9 million miles. The next close approach will happen in the winter of 2022. Hence Elon Musk’s original timeline for a 2022 target for the first mission to Mars. The windows after that will happen in 2024,2026, 2026, and so on.
    With these goals and timelines in mind, SpaceX started the development of the Big Falcon Rocket. This would be a 180-foot-tall spaceship, including three protruding fins, that sits atop a 230-foot-tall rocket booster. The plan was to make the rocket fully reusable and cut down the cost of each launch significantly.
    In November of 2018, the project was renamed Big Falcon Heavy to Starship. This is a two-stage rocket and is composed of a booster stage named Super Heavy and a second stage, which is the Starship itself.
    Starship is currently being powered by its Raptor engines, which can produce a thrust of 2 Mega Newtons. Starship is designed with the ability to re‑enter Earth's atmosphere and land on a designated landing pad. The spacecraft is also designed to be able to perform automatic rendezvous and docking operations and on‑orbit propellant transfer between Starships.
    SpaceX’s facility at Boca Chica in Texas is developing the current generation of Starship Model SN15. Which has been named the Starbase. Since it is planned to host the facility to mass manufacture SpaceXs starships. The plan is to build 1000 starships over 10 years once the facility starts its mass manufacturing process, that is around 100 Starships every year!


    One small step for a human, one giant leap for humankind

    Elon Musk in January revealed he had plans to get 1 million people on Mars by 2050. To achieve this ambitious goal, he has plans to launch at average 3 starships a day. But before we talk about colonization, let us look at the first manned mission to Mars.
    We have already successfully landed unmanned missions to Mars. In fact, our first successful landing was in 1971 when the Soviet Unions Mars 3 mission landed on the red planet. Since then we have had multiple mars, rovers roaming the red planet collecting scientific data. But transporting a human crew to and back from Mars is a whole new challenge.
    The first obstacle is the time since the distance to the red planet is very large. This means very long mission times for the human crew to be shut inside a cabin being hurled through space. The shorter Mars mission plans have round-trip flight times of 400 to 450 days. These can even be cut shorter with 245 days round trip by using on-orbit staging methods. These are still very long periods to sustain living conditions for the astronauts.
    SpaceX’s crewed Mars flight looks something like this.
    Phase 1, Starship launches with Super Heavy booster. Booster separates after delivering Starship to orbit and returns to Earth for future reuse.
    Phase II, Starship enters Earth’s orbit while a refilling tanker launches to mate with Starship in orbit. Starship then uses tanker vehicles (essentially the Starship spacecraft minus the windows) to refill the Starship spacecraft in low-Earth orbit prior to departing for Mars. Refilling on-orbit enables the transport of up to 100 tons all the way to Mars. Tanker after refueling returns to earth, for future reuse.

    Follow along as NASA launches the Mars 2020 Mission, perhaps the most ambitious hunt yet for signs of ancient life on Mars.

    The spacecraft will blaze into the Martian atmosphere at some 12,000 miles per hour and attempt to lower the Perseverance Rover in the rocky Jezero Crater, home to a dried-up river delta scientists think could have harbored life. Perseverance will comb the area for signs of life and collect samples for possible return to Earth. Traveling onboard is a four-pound helicopter that will conduct a series of test flights—the first on another planet.

    During its journey, Perseverance will also test technology designed to produce oxygen from the Martian atmosphere, in hopes that the gas could be used for fuel—or for humans to breathe—on future missions.

  • NASAs Newly Released Images Of Mars

    Mars is the fourth planet from the Sun and the second-smallest planet in the Solar System, being larger than only Mercury. In English, Mars carries the name of the Roman god of war and is often referred to as the Red Planet. The latter refers to the effect of the iron oxide prevalent on Mars's surface, which gives it a reddish appearance distinctive among the astronomical bodies visible to the naked eye. Mars is a terrestrial planet with a thin atmosphere, with surface features reminiscent of the impact craters of the Moon and the valleys, deserts and polar ice caps of Earth.

    The days and seasons are comparable to those of Earth, because the rotational period as well as the tilt of the rotational axis relative to the ecliptic plane are similar. Mars is the site of Olympus Mons, the largest volcano and highest known mountain on any planet in the Solar System, and of Valles Marineris, one of the largest canyons in the Solar System. The smooth Borealis basin in the Northern Hemisphere covers 40% of the planet and may be a giant impact feature. Mars has two moons, Phobos and Deimos, which are small and irregularly shaped. These may be captured asteroids, similar to 5261 Eureka, a Mars trojan.

    Mars has been explored by several uncrewed spacecraft. Mariner 4 was the first spacecraft to visit Mars; launched by NASA on 28 November 1964, it made its closest approach to the planet on 15 July 1965. Mariner 4 detected the weak Martian radiation belt, measured at about 0.1% that of Earth, and captured the first images of another planet from deep space. The Soviet Mars 3 mission included a lander, which achieved a soft landing in December 1971; however, contact was lost seconds after touchdown. On 20 July 1976, Viking 1 performed the first successful landing on the Martian surface. On 4 July 1997, the Mars Pathfinder spacecraft landed on Mars and on 5 July released its rover, Sojourner, the first robotic rover to operate on Mars. The Mars Express orbiter, the first European Space Agency (ESA) spacecraft to visit Mars, arrived in orbit on 25 December 2003. In January 2004, NASA's Mars Exploration Rovers, named Spirit and Opportunity, both landed on Mars; Spirit operated until 22 March 2010 and Opportunity lasted until 10 June 2018. NASA landed its Curiosity rover on August 6, 2012, as a part of its Mars Science Laboratory (MSL) mission to investigate Martian climate and geology. On 24 September 2014, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) became the fourth space agency to visit Mars when its maiden interplanetary mission, the Mars Orbiter Mission spacecraft, arrived in orbit. The United Arab Emirates became the fifth to successfully undertake a mission to Mars, having inserted an orbiter in to the Martian atmosphere on 9 February 2021. NASA's Perseverance rover and Ingenuity helicopter successfully landed on Mars on 18 February 2021. Ingenuity successfully completed the first powered controlled flight by an aircraft on any planet besides Earth on 19 April 2021, taking off vertically, hovering and landing on Mars.

    There are investigations assessing the past habitability of Mars, as well as the possibility of extant life. Astrobiology missions are planned, such as the European Space Agency's Rosalind Franklin rover. Liquid water on the surface of Mars cannot exist due to low atmospheric pressure, which is less than 1% of the atmospheric pressure on Earth, except at the lowest elevations for short periods. The two polar ice caps appear to be made largely of water. The volume of water ice in the south polar ice cap, if melted, would be sufficient to cover the planetary surface to a depth of 11 metres (36 ft). In November 2016, NASA reported finding a large amount of underground ice in the Utopia Planitia region. The volume of water detected has been estimated to be equivalent to the volume of water in Lake Superior.

    Mars can easily be seen from Earth with the naked eye, as can its reddish coloring. Its apparent magnitude reaches −2.94, which is surpassed only by Venus, the Moon and the Sun. Optical ground-based telescopes are typically limited to resolving features about 300 kilometres (190 mi) across when Earth and Mars are closest because of Earth's atmosphere. Mars is approximately half the diameter of Earth, with a surface area only slightly less than the total area of Earth's dry land. Mars is less dense than Earth, having about 15% of Earth's volume and 11% of Earth's mass, resulting in about 38% of Earth's surface gravity. The red-orange appearance of the Martian surface is caused by iron(III) oxide, or rust. It can look like butterscotch;[63] other common surface colors include golden, brown, tan, and greenish, depending on the minerals present. Like Earth, Mars has differentiated into a dense metallic core overlaid by less dense materials. Scientists determined the core is at least partially liquid. Current models of its interior imply a core with a radius of about 1,794 ± 65 kilometres.

    NASA's Mars 2020 Perseverance mission captured thrilling footage of its rover landing in Mars' Jezero Crater on Feb. 18, 2021. The real footage in this video was captured by several cameras that are part of the rover's entry, descent, and landing suite. The views include a camera looking down from the spacecraft's descent stage (a kind of rocket-powered jet pack that helps fly the rover to its landing site), a camera on the rover looking up at the descent stage, a camera on the top of the aeroshell (a capsule protecting the rover) looking up at that parachute, and a camera on the bottom of the rover looking down at the Martian surface.

    The audio embedded in the video comes from the mission control call-outs during entry, descent, and landing.

    On June 17, 2021 NASA’s Perseverance Rover transmitted latest images from Mars with strange dots on the surface of Red Planet. Dots on Mars’s surface are most likely from the rover itself but there are other theories. Rover take really close to the surface while studying interesting rocks. Within first science campaign, Perseverance will drive to a low-lying scenic overlook from which the rover can survey some of the oldest geologic features in Jezero Crater, and will bring online the final capabilities of the rover’s auto-navigation and sampling systems. Images with Dots/Prints taken from Mars on Sol 115. Currently Perseverance is 117 days autonomously on Mars.     The United Arab Emirates has become the fifth nation to ever reach Mars, with its space probe successfully arriving in Martian orbit.

    The mission was one of three that launched to Mars from Earth in July, including NASA's Perseverance rover and China's Tianwen-1 mission, marking a new era for space exploration.

  • After Ingenuity Helicopters 10th Flight Two Dangerous UFOs Were Seen On Mars || One UFO Is Moving

    These images of unidentified flying objects were acquired on Jul. 26, 2021 (Sol 153).
    NASA's Ingenuity helicopter completed its 10th flight on Mars Saturday (July 24, 2021). During 10th flight Ingenuity climbed 40 feet in the air, then headed south-by-southwest toward a collection of rock features called Raised Ridges, before looping back around to a landing zone about 310 feet west of its initial takeoff spot.
    Before Saturday, Ingenuity had already flown nearly one mile in total, so its 10th flight helped it hit that threshold.

    NASA's Perseverance rover has been on the surface of Mars since February of 2021, joining NASA's Curiosity rover, which has been studying the Red Planet since 2012.

    Perseverance is now beginning to ramp up its science mission on Mars while preparing to collect samples that will be returned to Earth on a future mission. Curiosity is ready to explore some new Martian terrain.

  • Zhurong Mars Rover Capture This video After Land on Mars Planet

    Hello Everyone, We got some beautiful content from the Chains Zhurong Mars rover. Chinese scientists hope to get at least 90 Martian days of service out of the six-wheeled robot at its location on Utopia Planitia, vast terrain in the planet's northern hemisphere. A period of reconnaissance will now follow but Tianwen-1's primary choice for a touchdown is a flat plain within the Utopia impact basin just north of Mars' equator. The rover, which has yet to be named, looks a lot like the US space agency's (Nasa) Spirit and Opportunity rovers from the 2000s. It weighs some 240kg and is powered by fold-out solar panels. A tall mast carries cameras to take pictures and aid navigation; five additional instruments will help assess the mineralogy of local rocks and look for any water-ice.

  • Zhurong Rover made Crater on Mars and created 360° panorama of Utopia Planitia

    On June 12, 2021 CNSA demonstrated new images of Mars from Zhurong Rover where the crater under Lander could be seen. CNSA confirmed increasing of Zhurong Rover activities on Mars at Utopia Planitia. With lower contrast, a hole right underneath the lander could be seen. This mini “crater” was created by the 7500N variable thrust engine for landing. Rover already dropped Remote Camera on the surface of Mars to make first selfies. Chinese Zhurong Mars Rover has been working on the surface of Mars for 27 Martian days, carrying out environmental perception, fire surface movement, and scientific exploration. Rover and Lander have a lot of equipment onboard, such as meteorological station, spectrometer and magnetic field detector.
