Masai Mara - The Big Hunt | Wildlife Documentary

Watch 'Wildlife Laws: Only the Fastest Will Survive' here:

When food supply in the Serengeti dwindles, the Masai Mara is a paradise for predators. As the black wildebeests, gazelles, zebras and antelopes make their yearly trip from the south of the Serengeti to the north, nature’s best laid trap, the Mara River in Kenya is waiting ahead. Captivating shots filmed underwater show how crocodiles prepare for the Big Hunt while other predators lurk on the banks awaiting their bounty.

The biggest problems for the migratory animals are the Mara and the Tarek River, where they have to put their lives at risk to get to the other side. A great number of them die as they jump into the river and break their legs, while others are carried away by the drift or drown. Those who are not victims of the river itself risk falling prey to the crocodiles. We entered this uncharted territory, the crocodile domain by heading under water.

Follow these predators in and around their habitat and watch prides of lions map out their game plan. In slow-motion, we show you the final showdown between predator and prey. Will it be a successful hunt or will the hoofed animals persevere?

  • The Big Five Of Masai Mara National Game Reserve.

    7:24

In Africa, the Big Five game animals are the lion, leopard, black rhinoceros, African bush elephant, and the African buffalo. The term was coined by big-game hunters, and refers to the five most difficult animals in Africa to hunt on foot, but is now also widely used by safari tour operators.

The 1990 and later releases of South African rand banknotes feature a different big-five animal on each denomination.

Each of the big five are examples of charismatic mega fauna, featuring prominently in popular culture, and are among the most famous of Africa's large animals.

Countries where all can be found include Angola, Botswana, Zambia, Uganda, Namibia, South Africa, Kenya, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Rwanda and Malawi.

This video shows the big five from Masai Mara.

Watch 'Animal Armory - Episode 4' here:

In the animal kingdom, the ability to hide amongst your surroundings and be unseen not only affords you safety from predators but can also make you a deadly hunter. In the African savannah, Zebra graze on grasses they seemingly disappear into. In the Madagascan jungles, Chameleon change the color of their skin to suit the trees they climb. In the warm tropics, Mantis blend in amongst the foliage as they hunt their prey. The Octopus becomes one with the great barrier reef with apparent supernatural ability. Polar Bear and the Arctic Fox disappear in the blinding snow as they scour the arctic tundra. Penguin's play, unseen by predators, in Antarctica and the Snow Leopard rules the mountains of Southeast Asia. Animal Armory takes a closer look at these mighty instruments of destruction and the animals that wield them with absolute precision.

  • Safari of my Life - Wildlife Photography Documentary with Klaus Tiedge

    1:3:46

A film capturing not only what it's like to be on safari in Kenya but also telling a tale of bravery in the face of adversity. Life is too short not to do exactly what you want.

In 2017 Klaus Tiedge embarked on a rather ambitious journey to go to Kenya in 2018 and make a film.
This “film idea” was something that Klaus had been thinking about doing for a few years already as a way to challenge himself to do something more than “just” photography. He hired film editor, Dean Paarman, to start the process by turning his existing footage into short videos for social media.

After receiving shocking news that Klaus was diagnosed with life threatening cancer, the idea of a film turned from an idea into a must-do goal.
Life is too short not to do exactly what you want.

Klaus underwent a severe surgery in 2017 and while in recovery decided that when he was out of the hospital, the planning would begin. True to his word Klaus spoke to his film editor Dean Paarman and proposed he come with to help make this project a reality.

By February 2018 only final touches were required before the two of them would set off to film “The Safari of a Lifetime”.

An epic month of adventure, blood, sweat and tears ensued. Klaus’s Family joined them for the last week to make it one of the most memorable safari trips of all time.

(The film also includes some of the last footage of Big Tim - the Amboseli Elephant - which sadly passed away earlier in 2020)

Kenya: A Trip through Wildness | Wildlife Documentary

Fascinating landscapes and a breathtaking variety of animals, this is Kenya. From elephant to leopard and giraffe to rhinoceros, this area is a place for the animals of Africa where to grant them protection is more important for the people than to hunt them.

A variety of national parks award Kenya as a paradise for animals. These refuges are also an important standing leg for the tourism. Many of them are managed by the state, however, some are operated by animal welfare organisations or private animal lovers.

The Solio game reserve is such a place. It is regarded as the first managed privately owned rhino refuge in Africa. Not only rhinos find protection from poachers here but also almost all other typical animals of Africa, as for example buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, gazelles, and leopards and many more. However, Solio was not the only place of interest for the camera team.

  • Amazing nature: Run to survive

    50:01

In a land of dangers, plant-eating animals are always at risk, and never more so than at the time of their birth; out on the open they are vulnerable and there are few places to hide. But luckily some are born to run…
Out on the African plains life can get off to a shaky start. Millions of baby wildebeests, zebras and antelopes are born at the same time. All of them must struggle to their feet in minutes. They must master their legs and be ready to run with the herd. If they don't they will be picked off by predators like lions, cheetahs, or crocodiles.
Whatever their role in life, little ones will face one challenge after another, whether it's trying to keep up with the herd during migration, getting stuck in the mud during a drought, being separated from its mother, panicking in bad weather, or even coming face to face with a predator.
The point will come in every young animal's life when the skills it learned will be put to good use. One of the most powerful wake-up calls to the harsh reality of nature comes to a young wildebeest during its migration. A dramatic river crossing, where there are more than just fast currents and steep banks to deal with - a river teaming with crocodiles. One by one his herd mates are picked off by the great reptiles, but when his time comes he proves he was born to run!

Hunters of the Sky - Europe's Birds of Prey | Wildlife Documentary

Watch 'The Golden Eagle - Master of the Sky' here:

Birds of prey are symbols of power, speed and splendour. In fact, there are very few species in the animal kingdom that can be described in as many superlatives.

Their amazing use of different senses, their incredible feats of flight as well as their multitude of different hunting strategies are simply astounding.
Hawks, buzzards and eagles have conquered every habitat on earth - from the dry arid south to the coasts of Norway, all the way up to the sparse high mountains. Some of them, like the versatile hawk, can even hunt in the forest. Their literal eagle eye vision is unrivaled in the animal kingdom. All birds of prey sustain themselves through hunting, and they do so elegantly and, it seems, with effortless beauty and efficiency. This is one of many reasons why they are much admired, even romanticised, by many cultures.

The Most Dangerous Wildlife Moments - Part 2 | Wildlife Documentary

Watch 'The Most Dangerous Wildlife Moments - Part 1' here:

Wildlife filmmakers often risk life and limb trying to capture unique images of their dangerous protagonists. In the Kruger National Park Josef Jozefowicz steps into a lionesses' den to film her cubs, in Alaska Andreas Kieling mingles with giant elk bulls in order to film them in action, and in Florida his colleague Zoltan Török gets very close to an alligator mother guarding its nest. The life of the film-makers is also threatened by elemental forces, and failing technical equipment: the strong and tearing current of the Yukon River throws Andreas Kieling's boat onto a gravel bank, in the Democratic Republik of Congo camerawoman Heike Grebe is separated from her colleagues in the dense rainforest, in Kamchatka a film team only just escapes a gigantic landslide, and in Finland a hot-air balloon catches fire and becomes the nightmare of Oliver Goetzl and Ivo Nörenberg. The last episode follows wildlife film-makers on their adventurous journeys throughout the world.

MASAI MARA | We Got Stuck in Lion's Den - Never Game Drive Alone! (ULTIMATE KENYA SAFARI VLOG Ep 7)

This is it, this is the ultimate African safari trip! In this season of my solo travel vlog series, let's explore Kenya together. 10 days, 6 national parks / conservancies in Kenya, remarkable animal sightings, new adventures, and endless memories.

A full day game drive from our camp all the way to the Mara River - where the magnificent annual wildebeest migration takes place! Although, safari game drive is not all about glamorous rare animal sightings. The reality is almost always hit and miss and sometimes you go the extra mile taking quite some risk to get there!

Right, you read it in the title - our 4x4 actually got stuck in the mud. But we were lucky enough to be in a temporary mini convoy with other travelers and it eventually all worked out. And hey! At the end of the day, you always see the most spectacular at the most unexpected moments!!

Enjoy this Masai Mara travel vlog - part 2 of 3.

    Cheers,
    Michael Wanderworld

High up in Europe’s north lies the kingdom of the brown bears: hidden in the forests of Finland, Sweden and Norway, many thousands of bears live to this day. In the middle of winter, when outside, veritable tons of snow blanket their caves, the females give birth to their cubs. For months, the bear cubs remain close to their mother and are warmed and suckled, before the triplets begin to discover their world outside of the cave. Together with the three cubs – the band of bears – this exceptional nature film takes us on a journey of discovery in Scandinavia’s wild forests – in the homes of the mighty moose and clever wolves, to the rare forest reindeer and hovering, flying squirrels.

  • Tropical Natural Paradise: Panama & Costa Rica | Free Documentary Nature

    44:40

Whoever wants to experience South America as a nature paradise in a small area, should explore Costa Rica. Almost half of the country is covered by rain forest. Numerous animal species are to be found here like the White faced Capuchin, colourful parrots like the Macaw, Veruga Parakeets and Tapirs.

Also lizards from primeval times have their habitat in this region of the planet. The small central American nation not only fascinates with a rich fauna and flora but also with a wonder world under water. Insights into the fascinating world of the jungle show examples like the epiphytes that make their way to the sky at the expense of her host plant.

A view into the culture of the Indian inhabitants of the rain forest of course does not come too briefly either. A diving excursion through the ocean waters of Cocos Island is the highlight of the journey. The spectator will get flesh crawl while watching hundreds of dangerous hammerhead sharks gliding past the camera.

  • Hippo Paradise / Best Family Friendly Safari Camp In The Maasai Mara Kenya ????????

    32:46

This is the Famous Fairmont Mara Safari Club which you probably heard of as Fairmont is one of the most reputable hotel chain in the entire world.

This beautiful camp in the Maasai Mara in Kenya is overall very good for any safari lover but is especially excellent for families traveling with young children or elderly people. Here is why: even though it is a safari camp with tent like accommodations, you still get everything you would expect from a normal hotel. In fact the main reception, dinning area and lounge are in one massive building that has a hotel feel with very comfortable seating, a massive fireplace and even full bathrooms. There is plenty of space for kids to run around freely.

In terms of safaris and game drives, you can for sure pay extra and get the full experience Kenya has to offer but the basic game drives that come with the package, they are 2 hours in the morning and 3 hours in the evening. These are done in a private conservancy just outside the Maasai Mara National Reserve, using an enclosed vehicle, once again making this ideal for young children and elderly people.

We would for sure recommend this safari camp, especially with the current promotion that they are running. Great tents, delicious food (especially the chapatis), caring staff and the best view of the Mara River you can get!

  • Family Spirit: The African Golden Wolf | Free Documentary Nature

    50:03

Family Spirit: The African Golden Wolf | Free Wildlife Documentary

Watch 'How the Wolf is Reconquering the Earth' here:

NOTE: This documentary was filmed and produced in 2008. Since then a series of analyses on the species' mitochondrial DNA and nuclear genome have revealed, that the previously thougt African variant of the Golden Jackal is actually distinct from it and is more closely related to the gray wolf and the coyote. Subsequently it is now known as the African golden wolf (Canis lupaster). Please excuse the outdated informations stated in this documentary.

This film follows the lives of some of Africa’s smartest and most sociable animals, two families of golden jackals living in Tanzania’s spectacular Serengeti Plains. These animal characters are possibly the most endearing killers you’re ever likely to meet. The events of their lives in just one breeding season are full of drama, comedy, tragedy and tenderness.

Jackals live in a nuclear family and they mate for life. Our two Jackal families are neighbors on the Short Grass plains between Naabi Hill & the Gol Kopjes. The “Gol” pair Storm & Zabar have three young pups just out the den, and the Naabi Hill couple, Hunter and White Tip, have 5 older pups. Only three are to survive

This film will highlight the intimate relationships, the politics and the extraordinary bond that holds the jackal families together. These are families that do everything as one. They hunt together, eat together, and defend their home together and that’s just as well because they wouldn’t stand a chance on their own. Life on the plains isn’t easy. Competition is fierce, and there are always larger, stronger predators around who could do serious damage to the jackals. Staying together, united as a family, is the jackal’s sure way to success.

  • Maasai Mara Game Reserve in Kenya | The Manyatta Village Of The Maasai People | African Safari |

    7:37

The Masai Mara is one of the best known nature reserves in Africa. The area is famous particularly for the concentration of predators. The film shows the livelihood of the Maasai People and there culture. But also the migration of large herds of wildebeests and zebras with the crossing of the Mara River attracts visitors in its spell.

Masai Mara -- Lions Hunting Animals | World Animals

Maasai Mara, also sometimes spelled Masai Mara and locally known simply as The Mara, is a large national game reserve in Kenya.
Maasai Mara is one of the most famous and important wildlife conservation and wilderness areas in Africa, world-renowned for its exceptional populations of lion, African leopard, cheetah and African bush elephant. It also hosts the Great Migration, which secured it as one of the Seven Natural Wonders of Africa, and as one of the ten Wonders of the World.

  • Maasai Mara wildlife documentary trailer

    1:57

In Kenya, the Maasai Mara National Reserve is world famous for the richness and density of its wildlife. The great wildebeest migration rhythms the comings and goings of hundreds of thousands of herbivores, under the watchful eyes of lions, cheetahs and leopards. This is where the great story of wildlife takes place, when preys and predators meet and each encounter will determine their fate…
The film follows in particular the life of a cheetah who courageously raises her 6 turbulent cubs, a family of lions whose territory covers the whole of the Great Plain, and a young leopard playing with his mother.

  • Big Cat Morning - Masai Mara Cheetah, Lion & Leopard

    20:21

While out filming in the Masai Mara we decided to make a Day in the life of Klaus Tiedge on Safari video. In this video we started with a couple of cheetahs, then went on to meet Notch 2 (a famous lion in the Mara) & even got to see a leopard all before 10am. This is a rare Big Cat Morning in the Masai Mara.

Big Cat Morning in the Masai Mara
When you spend a month in the Masai Mara you will end up with loads and loads of footage. Klaus & I made sure that we were up and going from dark till dark every single day, filming everything from getting out of bed to eating dinner. But what it’s all really about is what happens during the day. This was one of those magical days we remember as the big cat morning.
One video we always had in mind to create was a day in the life of a Safari Wildlife Photographer. While in the Masai Mara we got so caught up on making sure we got all the scenes for the film, that we often forgot about our “other” plans. On this particular morning it was raining and we though well let’s just play around with a nice getting out of bed sequence that we could use for the day in the life video.

After the morning routine of getting ready it was time to get set in the vehicle and head out into the bush before the sun comes out. You always want to be on location with a lion or leopard or cheetah before the sun is up. To get the best shot you need time to place yourself in the best position and constantly observe to foresee what the animals are going to likely do next.

John, our guide, had obviously heard from a little bird that there were a couple of Cheetahs hanging around about a 40min drive from where we were camped. A direction and purpose was set…. off we go.

Cheetah Brothers had an unsuccessful hunt
After an incredible cinematic sunrise of the wet green plaines of the Mara we arrived at the Cheetah Boys just about to hunt for their breakfast. Naturally one must try not get in the way of the hunting path so as not to disturb the hunter or the hunted. We kept our distance. Klaus never really needed the hunt picture itself, but within the moments of buildup or the searching, there are classic moments of African pride.

The Cheetahs quickly picked up the pace, dashing this way and that. But they were not fully committed just yet. Cheetahs are day-hunting cats, they rely on speed and agility rather than the element of surprise in the dark. But these boys were still waking and warming up. After a few unsuccessful attempts they lay down again and John got the message that a famous lion was not far away. We opted to leave the cheetahs, for now.

    Notch 2 - A lonely lion
On our way to find the lion, we managed to drive into a mud ditch. Luckily Sammy, a friend of Johns, was close by to help us out. It was actually Sammy that informed John about the Cheetahs, and in turn we told them about our mission to find a famous Lion named Notch 2.

Notch 2 was just on the other side of the river sleeping out in the open. Tired and battle-scarred he looked up for a bit and went back to sleep. He was not phased by us. Klaus explained that he had photographed Notch 2’s father & uncles called the Notch Brothers on previous trips. The Notch family was one of the famous Mara Lion families. Notch 2 has now become a mature lion already and his heyday of being the head of a pride is over. He is now a loner who looks out for himself.

As the sun popped out and the heat came up, Notch 2 decided to take a walk to find a cooler shadier spot. We followed him for a bit. But soon enough the clouds cover came over, a cool breeze and he lay down again. We took this opportunity to give him some space and have a little breakfast.
    And a Leopard too
We sat and watched and followed Notch for a while after breakfast. A call came through that a Leopard was spotted between here and where we were earlier with the cheetahs. Notch was a little grumpy and we didn’t want to “bother” him any more. We gave him his space and left for yet another location not far away.

It took John only a few minutes to locate a beautiful Leopard. She was scratching the bark on a tall tree before finding a lookout perch. Klaus kept saying how amazing is this, we have seen 3 big cats all before 10am in the morning. Some days you drive for hours and see nothing, today we got it all.

This would make a great “Day in the life of a Wildlife Photographer” video, but we both laughed that it wouldn’t be entirely truthful. Action like this was rare-magic.

Some of the highlights from the Wildeye Big Cat Film Safari in the Masai Mara, Kenya, 2010, where I worked as the video editor. The trip this year was another success with a multitude of sightings. However, much of the time I was busy editing away in the best office in the world: in the shade of a big tree by the Olare Orok river. This is a short version of the full length documentary I edited whilst in Kenya. To find out more about Wildeye trips please visit wildeye.co.uk.

  • Wild Cheetah With SEVEN Cubs! | Maasai Mara Safari | Zebra Plains

    19:46

The female cheetah known as Siligi made headlines in 2019 after giving birth to a litter of seven cubs. This may have been the first time a female cheetah had been seen with such a big litter outside of captivity. I was lucky enough to get to see the cheetah family when all seven cubs were a few months old. Unfortunately the size of the litter proved too much for Siligi and she lost most of them by early 2020.

About Rob The Ranger Wildlife Videos:
The purpose of the channel is to show what it is like to experience seeing wild animals on an African safari. Nature Documentaries are often highly edited to tell a story, wildlife safaris are not, and the idea here is to show the wildlife sightings the way they were seen. Safari tours in Africa are generally suitable for all ages and this channel can be considered an educational channel about incredible nature, some scenes in the nature videos may be more graphic than people are used to but this is the reality of nature and is what you would see if you were present on such a safari in person. Safaris in Kenya, South Africa, or any other African country are an unrivalled experience for anyone with a passion for nature, wildlife photography, and travel. Hopefully the animal videos on this channel can provide a glimpse into what the nature experience is like and encourage more people to take a wildlife safari one day. • MUST SEE! Leopard Hunts Gazelle on Safari Tour, Masai Mara, Kenya, Africa. Full animal hunt.

    4:52

A beautiful female leopard creeps out of the bush in the early morning on the Masai Mara, Africa, and spots a group of unsuspecting impala and gazelle. Crouching stealthily in the long grass, the animal hunts, creeping closer and closer, waiting for the perfect moment, and then pounces swiftly on its prey. It then carries the carcass off into the bushes where it plays with it and begins to eat it.

    Full description:

I was lucky enough while on an African Safari holiday tour in the Masai Mara (Kenya) last year to witness Bahati the leopard hunt in the region of Intrepids camp. We arrived as she came down from a tree and then emerged from bushes by the track. As you can see from the video, she rolled in the dust and then appeared to spot gazelle nearby. Instantly her posture changed, she slunk down onto her haunches and crept into the long grass. It was amazing to see how low she could stay, and the stealth with which she moved. As she approached the oblivious gazelle, we watched on from the jeep, and despite standing and looking down at the scene, eventually we lost sight of her too in the grass. Such incredible camouflage when seen in their natural environment!

We waited patiently, holding our breaths, and with my camera trained on the gazelle. Minutes passed but we were all intently waiting and watching. Suddenly, as you see in the video, she exploded out of the grass and around the closest gazelle, who didn't stand a chance, gripping it by the windpipe. Such speed and power was phenomenal to watch - you can see how I jumped on the video!

After her prey was subdued, Bahati paused to give us a few more photo opportunities and then dragged the gazelle off back to through the bushes. It made me realise how small a leopard is compared to some of the larger cats, as it seemed quite unwieldy for it. We watched it toy with its food in the bushes for a few minutes, and then it disappeared into thick bush (presumably back up a tree again - though sadly I didn't get to witness that).

The whole event lasted about 15 or 20 minutes I should think, and I barely breathed through all of it. It felt a real privilege to be there to witness such a moment..

Hopefully you can enjoy the video and get a taste of the moment for yourself.
