  • vortex water turbine 3d printed

I made this because i saw a video of the company Turbulent, and i made a scale model of it, its not exactly a copy but my 3d drawing is not 100% yet.

i tried 3 types of turbine blade but the proppelor with the biggest pitch works the best as you can see in the video

the link to the printed parts:

iit was quit hard to remove the support between the blades but you have to put as litle support in as posible.

i first cut in with a dremmel disc and removed the last with a small chissel.

the pump is a 6 watt brand micra and the diameterof the pump outlet is 13mm

    i used a m3 bold of 30mm long

  • 15kW Vortex turbine with more technical details

In this video we want to show the 15kW vortex turbine of Donihue, Chile, with more details. This turbine is operating with a head of 1.7m and a flow of 1.8m3/s. In the outflow you will see that there's head left. That's because our customer wants to expand to 2 turbines in series in the future (modular components allow him to do that). As you can see the turbine is covered with a grid to keep larger debris and children from falling into the turbine. There's also a trash rack in front of the inlet that keeps all debris with a diameter above 10cm out of the turbine basin. The core of this unit was assembled in our factory and then transported in one piece to the installation site. Over there it was a matter of lowering the turbine into the concrete outflow pit and connecting all electrical wires. No expertise required at that point. The concrete structures were build in advance in about 3 weeks as this was our first turbine. We are currently working on a prefabricated design that should be installed in under a week.

  • Tesla turbine is creating water vortex and charging the batteries with ACG

This was the first attempt. Until motor is driving Tesla turbine it is charging 4 x 12 V 12 Ah batteries. We realized then the size of batteries was to small for that kind of power we created . The Batteries were over charged very fast.ACG (Asymmetric Current Generator) technology is involved in this process.

  • Turbulent Is Ready to Change the World!

After 2 years of engineering and build iterations the team of Turbulent has finished its first 15kW low-head hydropower turbine. This is a scalable technology that can be installed at any kind of water fall, rapid, or water control structure in rivers and canals. By basing this turbine on the principle of a whirlpool, it is both fish friendly and can let debris pass through.
    Find us on facebook:
or visit our website for more information:

Amazing how we suddenly have so many views and comments! And thank you for all of the advice!

I just want to clarify a few things I saw asked in the comments:

    - We shot this footage during commissioning. When installing a hydropower turbine you first test it for a while at half the nominal flow. That's what you see passing through this turbine. It doesn't look very stable yet, as it needs additional flow for the vortex to stabilize itself (Think about how you get that sucking sound at the last few liters running from your bath tub). Full flow of this turbine is 1.8m3/s with a height difference of 1.7m. That gives 15kW of useful electric power with our efficiency of 50%.

    - When we were finished shooting the video, we put back the trash rack (with a spacing between the bars of 10cm as that is the maximum debris size that can pass through) and the mesh that covers the whole basin. No children, dogs, pirates,... can fall in.

-60 homes can be powered in Chile with an average household power demand of 0.25 kW. The average in many European countries is 0.5 kW. The average in American homes could well be a few MW if the comments are to go by :P

-Yes, waterwheels have been done before, and turbines as well. We don't claim to have invented hydropower. We claim, however, that we have made this size of hydropower an interesting investment with a lower cost and a higher efficiency. Our hope is to offer a clean, eco-friendly alternative for investors, land owners, industries etc to generate power from the rivers that they have running in their neighborhood. As one of the co-founders, I can tell you that I enjoy nature, and that I want my kids growing up learning about and seeing technologies that try to work in harmony with it.

    - Some rivers meander too much for our technology. These rivers aren't suitable. We know about this, thank you for mentioning it.

-We're not related to any kickstarter or crowdfund campaign. I made the video in my spare time as a hobby and I'm honestly a bit surprised that it became so popular. What I was hoping for, was to meet like minded people who want to help make our vision a reality. Affordable electrification for all without harming nature. A lot of people here have been really nice, with lots of helpful advice. Thank you for that! I believe we, as a society, can achieve anything if we just work together.

    - Any good scientific peer review should scrutinize the numbers. I'm busy making a new video with full flow footage and footage of our inverter power readout. Please tell me what you'd like to see in there and I'll try and arrange it :)

    - Last but not least: we're still in the testing phase. Currently we're checking all the systems and we're making sure this turbine can do what it promises. It seems to be holding up well against erosion and debris. We had some power cable heating, but got it solved. We will also be conducting fish friendliness tests. The whole design was based on the fish friendly design parameters of the Alden turbine Labs. We will validate those numbers. This model is now being worked on and we will be ready by July 2018 with our testing phase. When all of that is done, we will be ready to start helping people everywhere to develop their very own hydropower turbine and build their future!

Thank you for your attention, stay tuned for more updates!

  • Vortex Energy

The need for energy is increasing

But we are running out fo resources fast

We need to create an inexhaustible source of energy that is always there

    Not dependable on wind…

    Or the sun

But instead, an infinitely renewable source of energy that is available at any place

    Any time

    Sounds impossible…

Viktor Schauberger says it is possible

Well, said, because he is not with us anymore

    But his ideas live on

Schauberger was a forest caretaker and an inventor born in Austria

He spent his life inventing devices based on his observations in nature

Fascinated by the behaviour of water

he thought of a device that was able to generate an endless amount of energy

by using the natural properties of water

Unfortunately he was limited by the technical possibilities of his time

Since then a lot has changed

Computer simulations and production methods like 3d-printing have enabled us

To take the next step in realising Schaubergers dreams

That is why we have begun experimenting with energyvortexmachine

Based on Schaubergers documentation of the behaviour of water in nature

To generate energy the machine uses a couple of Schaubergers ideas

The natural acceleration of water is one of them

First a spiral tube is placed over a water basin

Then we start the generator by transporting water through the central tube

When it reaches the top the water runs down the spiral and gravity accelerates the water

The moving water should create a suction strong enough

To automatically transport water from the basin to the top spiral

The water that comes out of the outlet starts moving the water in the basin

If Schaubergers principles are correct the water will accelerate

By placing a small turbine at the bottom of the basin

We decease the acceleration to a continuously running water flow

The movement of the turbine can be transformer into clean and renewable energy

We believe this machine has great potential

It might help us solve one the biggest problems we face today: clean energy

    Lots of clean energy

To build this machine we need help

The world is competing for energy and hydropower is a clean source of energy. The field of Hydropower has often witnessed the discovery of new types of plants and components therein, by using simple principles of physics and mechanics. Gravitational water vortex power plant (GWVPP) is a new type of low head turbine in which mechanical energy of free surface flowing water is converted to kinetic energy by tangentially passing the water to a basin, which forms a water vortex. This study is focused on the optimization of runner which can improve the efficiency of the GWVPP to much more extent. The analysis is carried out by preparing three different CAD models of runners and one was successfully tested. Focusing on blade profile, mesh generation CFX package was used to analyze the fluid flow through turbine hub and blade. This approach was carried out on three different turbine models with straight, twisted and curved blade profiles and results were used for efficiency evaluation of each turbines. The computational result showed curved profile to be best efficient profile than other two which was ensured by a experimental testing of the efficient model of runner along with piloting the project.

  • Water vortex power plant

The UTPL in Ecuador through a research project of the degree in Civil Engineering has developed the study, design and optimization of a hydraulic structure with the ability to induce artificial formation of a water vortex, which rotational flow can be used for the implementation of a micro-hydro power plant.
The research project was under the supervision of Dr. Holger Benavides Muñoz and was developed by Henrry Rojas.

The water vortex hydropower system is a new technology which utilizes the energy contained within a large water vortex as it is artificially created over a small head difference on a river. The mechanism works as follow. River water is channeled at the bank of the river and conveyed to a circulation tank. This circulation tank possesses a circular orifice at its base. The combination of localized low pressure at the orifice and the concept of induced circulation at the tangential entry influences strong vortex flow. Potential energy is entirely converted to rotational kinetic energy at the vortex core which is then extracted by means of a vertical axis turbine. Water is then returned to the river through a channel.

The advantages of this type of power plant are many. Not only are they driven by a simple and reliable technology, they are also easy to maintain, compact, and inexpensive.

The implementation of a water vortex micro-hydro power plant becomes a viable solution that is able to supply electric power to rural areas near to natural waterways

  • Water Turbine Design Optimization with CFD | Webinar

Francis turbines (which are water turbines) are the modern equivalent of water wheels that have been used over centuries for power generation. These devices are becoming essential for an environmentally-friendly and clean source of power and thus have evolved into complex designs that need to meet certain requirements in terms of performance and power output. This requires an ongoing optimization of the design of different components. Fluid flow simulation (CFD) is an alternative to complex, conventional development processes consisting of design development, prototype construction, and experimental validation.

In this webinar, you will learn how the SimScale cloud-based simulation platform enables every engineer in the world to leverage the potential of CFD for their own projects in the field of power generation via water turbines by using a standard web browser (no installation or special hardware required).
