  • Magic of the Mountains - The Secrets of Nature

    50:17

This is the story of a land, where forces of nature are at play – beyond all things that a human can ever dominate or be able to conquer. The birth of Tyrol was one of collisions, where previous far apart continents were conjoined, wedged together and piled up on top of each other. The result is a steep world of diversity on the smallest area: depending on the depth of a valley or the height of a mountain ridge, depending on its direction and position at the edge or in the middle of the Alps, depending on whether its slope is steep or flat, there is a spot in Tyrol that is icy or mild, lush or paltry, dry or full of water. This film presents the fascinating world of the high mountains with all their diverse flora and fauna and the living conditions throughout the seasons.

Forces of Nature - Part 2: Towering Mountains | Nature Documentary

Watch 'Forces of Nature - Part 3' here:

China: 70% of this huge country is mountainous, with 160 mountain ranges crisscrossing the lands. Breathtaking mountains, hidden habitats, ancient species, and amazing stories live and survive here. Have you ever heard of the blue sheep? Well, they live in these mountains halfway to the sky with an ability to climb rocks every rock climber has to be seriously jealous of. These blue sheep (who aren't really blue) can walk on sheer cliff faces that are practically vertical. Talk about superhero abilities. The wow factor of this episode but there's much more to come so stay tuned.
Snow leopards, gibbons, and the drummer boys aka male black-billed capercaillie, are responsible for the drumbeat sounds as you walk through deep dark dense forests and jungles.

This original documentary series offers you an unprecedented perspective to observe China. China covers a vast area of over 5,200 kilometers from east to west, crossing 62 degrees of longitude and five time zones. When the Wusuli River on the easternmost end sees the sky filled with morning glow, the Pamirs on the westernmost end are still in a starry night.

China is home to abundant resources. Diversity defines the basic features of China's natural environment. Temperatures vary from place to place all over China. In winter, it is nearly -50 °C at the coldest place of China, Hanma Nature Reserve in Genhe in Inner Mongolia, while it is over 30 degrees at the Xisha Islands in the South China Sea. It is the only country of the world that has reindeers in the north and elephants in the south. Nobody has ever traveled to all parts of this big Eastern country. The continuous snowy mountains of the Himalaya, the vast shore of the South China Sea, mysterious tropical rainforests, the snowy piedmont of the Changbai Mountains...

Silent Roar Searching for the Snow Leopard [Full Nature Wildlife Documentary]
For several reasons, my favorite piece of footage is the courtship and mating sequence. It was my fantasy objective for shoot five.
Silent Roar Searching for the Snow Leopard [Full Nature Wildlife Documentary]
[The film was shot over nine shoots.] I researched all I could about mating strategies of big cats, especially the so-called solitary ones. I needed this comparative approach, since wild snow leopard mating had never been recorded. Many Ladakhi villagers believe that snow leopard females go down to the rivers and mate with male otters, to produce regular snow leopard cubs! So it was a pretty safe bet that even they hadn’t observed mating.
Silent Roar Searching for the Snow Leopard [Full Nature Wildlife Documentary]
That morning I was slowly scanning the area as usual when another team member spotted two snow leopards together, very high up on the skyline of the cliff. I rushed to a filming position and threw the camera kit together. I had the cats covered, and already in those first few minutes I could see that they were courting.
Silent Roar Searching for the Snow Leopard [Full Nature Wildlife Documentary]
The next nine hours were glorious: will they, won’t they? I didn’t take my eye off the viewfinder once. Just before dusk this wonderful team of people made the first-ever recorded observation of a wild snow leopard mating. I’m still deeply moved whenever I watch the footage, both for its content and for its process. After working so hard together over three years and two films, we had just become a part of snow leopard history. Not only that, we’ve cleared up that tale of otters and snow leopards!
Silent Roar Searching for the Snow Leopard [Full Nature Wildlife Documentary]
At the time there was no explanation for his illness. I delayed my return to Ladakh, the film location, as much as possible. But as soon as Taiga had stabilized and was released from the hospital I returned to location. Leaving your six-day-old baby for the next two months tears a piece out of you that never quite grows back, made worse when that baby is ill.
After shoot two was over I spent a beautiful month with Taiga, now two and a half months old, on location in New Zealand for another film I was shooting. All seemed well. But 36 hours before I was due to return to Ladakh for shoot three, Taiga was diagnosed with an incredibly rare congenital disability called septo-optic dysplasia, a midline brain abnormality. Stunned and heartbroken, I delayed my return to Ladakh as long as I could, and then had to leave to film the seasonal events that simply wouldn’t wait.
    Best HD Documentary Wild life
Shoot three was one of the most difficult I’ve ever done. I had a satellite telephone with me (for safety reasons, and for communication with my co-producer in England, Hugh Miles), so I was able to make brief weekly calls to my then-wife back in Australia. Each call was emotionally battering as I’d learn of yet another devastating aspect of Taiga’s condition. He was pronounced totally blind; his beautiful blue eyes had no optic nerve connecting them to his brain. My passion to film snow leopards suddenly seemed absurd: Here I was filming an animal to show 80 million strangers around the world, and I was powerless to show my own baby son anything. I had to draw on every technique of psychological discipline I knew of to get through it. But I had to make those weekly calls, no matter how heartbreaking. In a way, shoots four, five, and six were even harder as we became more informed about just how fragile Taiga was.

  • Survivorman Bigfoot | Episode 7 | Smokey Mountains | Les Stroud

    43:45

Things get weird when Les tracks Bigfoot in the smoky mountains of Tennessee. Hiking far off the beaten path, Les searches remote forested land deep in the heart of the Great Smoky Mountains with Scott Carpenter, a local researcher claiming to have interactions with Bigfoot in the area. Scott’s theories leave Les feeling jumpy. Or maybe that’s the black bears. There are more than 1,500 black bears that live in these mountains. Les knows that where bears thrive, humans can survive, too. But, is it possible that something else could be surviving in the unknown wild? A higher intelligence? Something that doesn’t want to be found? Battling his own psyche, Les enters the Bigfoot hot spot, planting hidden cameras and scent traps, in an effort to elicit an interaction, seeking irrefutable proof. But the longer Les hunts for Sasquatch, the weirder things get.

  • Episode 5 of Bird’s-eye China: Jiangxi, land of mountains and waters

    59:20

CCTV's groundbreaking documentary series, Bird’s-eye China, is the first Chinese program to have been produced using drone technology. Each episode in the series celebrates the history, culture, and natural beauty of a different area of China. Spanning 34 vastly different provinces and regions, this series is the most difficult and expensive documentary that CCTV has ever produced.

Join us in this unique journey across the sky, as CGTN looks at the best of China’s breathtaking scenery.

Jiangxi Province, located in east China, is surrounded on three sides by mountains. The north of the province, where the land is mostly flat, is towered over by Mount Lushan. By contrast, the central part is an area of hills and valleys. Thousands of rivers run through Jiangxi, with most of them emptying into Poyang Lake. ‍

This is our premiere episode of Overview, a show that will be publishing every three weeks on Terra.

There are a LOT of trees in the Blue Ridge Mountains, and they’re responsible for that dreamy blue haze on the horizon.

Trees produce fine mists of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), which scatter blue light waves. But these compounds are also a key ingredient in ground-level ozone, and in the mid-90s the area had serious air quality issues. Not only was it dangerous to breathe, but the hazy blue was also disappearing from the horizon.

But it wasn’t just the tree's fault. Here’s what happened...

Hosted by Joe Hanson from It's Okay to be Smart, Overview uses incredible 4k drone footage to reveal the natural phenomena shaping our planet from a 10,000-foot view—literally.
