  • Sofía rocks the Cenotes

    2:41

    DISCLAIMER

Cenotes are a unique and delicate eco-system and deserve a respectful touch. We shot this video on breath hold with minimal equipment in several cenotes over several days and for each different one, we asked permission of the owner and whether we could touch the environment or not. In some cases, it was clear it was just rock or sand or sunken trees, but some looked liked stalactites – which are fragile and should not be touched. Turns out most of these were petrified stalactites, which had become solid rock and were fine fine to touch, long as we were mindful. In general, though, of course it's best not to touch anything when swimming (or running) in environments you don't know well. We tried to inform ourselves best we could and when in doubt, we stayed well clear of formations we weren't sure about – it's obviously not worth risking a unique environment for a video.
Sofía Gómez Uribe is a world record holding freediver and highly trained athlete; probably best not to try and recreate this without serious training, and the type of safety in place that we had.
Music is Brash Gentleman by Tomas Herudek.

    3:08

Stig Pryds is a Danish record holding freediver. He was diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis in 2008, which disabled him so much that he lost his business. After 5 years of intense pain and increasing dependency on drugs, he decided to quit all drugs cold turkey, and find alternative ways to deal with his disease. He began practising yoga daily, changed his diet, and started practising freediving. This caused drastic changes: within months he could walk without a cane, and he could play with his two young daughters again.
It also taught him how good he actually was at freediving; within a year he started setting Danish records. He started traveling the world going to freediving competitions, where the warm weather and sun also improved his condition. He used his increased exposure from the Danish records to tell the story of his recovery and inspire people to live a healthy lifestyle. He started teaching others how to deal with auto-immune disorders.
The downside of his new fame was that the insurance company, who paid his monthly disability check, noticed that he was doing things a healthy person does. Despite the argument that he's only healthy because he can do these travels and trainings, the insurance company threatened to sue him for lying -he'd have to pay back all the disability checks plus a fee. With the help from his doctors Stig managed to convince them his disease is real, just that he manages it well, but the insurance company decided to stop paying him his disability. The stress this whole procedure caused was enormous and Stig relapsed into severe pain.
We shot this video in January, the hardest month for Stig, where he had to figure out how to proceed. We talked about how life can keep dealing you blow after blow, and how you know that you'll be ok anyway. But it still sucks that you have to deal with the blows, and have to go through that uncertainty of what comes next. Stig has decided to focus on his new breathing program, in which he teaches people how to breathe properly to deal with stress and disease, together with yoga and diet. He might not be able to compete much this year, but he's getting back up and doing his best to be of use to others. Find out more about Stig here:

  • The Most Beautiful Free Diving in the World

    3:00

Thank you to Corona for sponsoring this video!

We traveled to some of the most remote islands in Indonesia to capture .the different perspectives all of us experience when we’re free diving.

I’ve always had a deep fear of the ocean. Free diving forces me to get outside of my comfort zone and to reconnect with nature. This was my first time working on an underwater project and I can’t believe how challenging and beautiful it was to be a part of it.
Emmett, Josiah and Chelsea are amazing divers and creators that make free diving look much easier than it is in reality. I’m so grateful to have had the opportunity to learn from them in Indonesia!

    6:37

    JULIE:
Ama is a silent film. It tells a story everyone can interpret in their own way, based on their own experience. There is no imposition, only suggestions.
I wanted to share my biggest pain in this life with this film. For this is not too crude, I covered it with grace. To make it not too heavy, I plunged it into the water.
I dedicate this film to all the women of the world.
    Julie

    JULIE:

  • One breath around Curacao GoPro Freediving

    5:57

Nur einen/only one breath braucht es um das Abenteuer Unterwasser zu genießen. Just Around curacao soll es gehen.

  • One Breath Around Maui - ScubaJet

    3:32

Feeling inspired by the One Breath Around the World free diving video, I decided to try and make something using similar ideas. I shot this by myself in an hour or so at Ho'okipa Maui Hawaii. I would set the GoPro in place and then swim around it. I figured that I needed to get many different angles and locations to keep the video interesting. My wife and boys were surfing and I went really far out to get these shots. Water depth was 10-25 feet and because I was alone I tried not to stay underwater any longer than 30-45 seconds at a time. I hope this video captures how much fun I have when I am using my Scubajet! Filmed with the amazing GoPro Hero 7 Black.

  • Longest Dive On Planet Earth - On A Single Breath. Official Guinness World Record By Stig Severinsen

    4:07

    More info:
Danish Superhuman comes out of retirement to shatter world record in the name of Mother Nature

Danish freediver, Stig Severinsen, has broken many records. Although it has been almost 25 years since the first, and the date of birth may rather point to retirement than to new power performances, the Danish Superman has pulled on his swimming trunks once again. The reason is the global ecological crisis, and the reflection that he believes the 2020 Pandemic should give us all.

Stig Severinsen was the first person to hold his breath for 20 minutes under water. He has set a plethora of world records, and teaches breathing techniques for both peak performance and physical as well as mental rehabilitation. Now he has smashed the existing record in longitudinal swimming underwater to the sensational and symbolic figure: 202.0 meters. No human has ever before dived so far in the ocean on a single breath of air.

Thus, the Dane adds a full pool length of 25 meters to the Venezuelan Carlos Coste's record of 177 meters, which he set four years ago at the age of 40. Coste himself has held the record since 2010.

Stig Severinsen will turn 48 in a couple of months, and should therefore not be able to compete with freediving's younger world players. However, the year 2020 has brought something to life in the Superman.

I have long been looking for an opportunity to strike a blow for our planet and remind us how we should treat it. The place where the dive took place in Mexico belongs to one of the world's most unique and beautiful coastal areas. Like many other places, it is threatened by plastic pollution and the human lifestyle in general , says Severinsen and continues:

“When the world was hit by Covid-19 almost a year ago, I was looking for a way to show that the pandemic was not an excuse to forget our priorities for nature, or put our ambitions on standby. On the contrary. That is why I have spent the time training and developing both myself and my message ”.

Stig Severinsen, who also has a Ph.D. in Medicine, went out with his company Breatheology to provide training opportunities so that people could strengthen their breathing capacity and be better prepared for a possible infection. This meant a free release of Severinsen's bestseller: Breatheology - The Art of Conscious Breathing in 10 languages and the development of a free online breathing training program targeted at the corona crisis for both the Danish and international audience. Simultaneously with the work, the freediver initiated an intense training regime, consisting of both physical and meditative development, in order to create the sensational record.

“My message is that the globe is an amazing place and that our body together with our brain can achieve the most incredible things. Rather than allowing ourselves to be paralyzed by fear, we must continue the human endeavours. But it must be done in harmony with nature - not against it. When we forget the fear and choose the action, we ourselves are masters of our destiny ”,says the freediver.

For several years he himself has shared the message of a more gentle treatment of nature. Among other things. with a strong focus on the plastic pollution that has affected the seas in which he has frolicked throughout his life.

The record has been approved by the official Guinness World Records organization and documented in live images off the Mexican coast in the so-called Sea of Cortez.

That Stig Severinsen has a fascination with number contexts should gradually be clear to anyone! Thus, he achieved the world record in breath holding underwater in the year 2010 with the time of 20 minutes and 10 seconds. This was the preliminary culmination of the battle for - as the first - to break the magical 20-minute barrier. The recent 2020 dive thus enters a tradition for the Dane, whose record will stand as an optimistic commentary on a year that most people would most likely rather like to forget.

    Facts:

Stig Åvall Severinsen was born on March 8, 1973. He has been named The Ultimate Superhuman by the Discovery Channel when he held his breath for 22 minutes underwater, and was the main character in a two-part documentary called: The Man Who Doesn't Breathe.

He has a Ph.d. in Medicine and is the author of the bestselling book Breatheology - The Art of Conscious Breathing.

He is the Founder and CEO of the online training platform Breatheology and a Fellow International member of the Explorers Club in New York.

The 2020 Dive was made in secrecy in the Sea of Cortez, Mexico, Baja California Sur. An ocean known for its incredible wildlife and huge fish stocks - also called “The Aquarium of the World” by the famous diver and explorer, Jacques Cousteau.
