Scientists have been finding exoplanets that could be potentially habitable
for some time now. There are hundreds of millions of them out there, and more found every day. There isn’t a planet like ours anywhere in the universe that we know of. But now scientists say they have found exoplanets that could be more habitable than the Earth… but do they really exist?

  • 24 Planets Even Better for Life Than Earth

How many habitable planets are there? Water is the basis of life in any part of the universe. So potentially inhabited planets must have liquid water on them to support life. An incredible number of circumstances must come together for this. The planet must be in the habitable zone of the star. A little closer to the star, and the water will evaporate, leaving no chance for oceans and seas to form. This is what happened on Venus. Too far from the star, and the planet becomes too cold. Water can only exist in the form of ice on the surface and there just might be liquid water deep below. Neptune is one example of this.

In our galaxy alone, there are countless stars. Really you can’t count on them. Near each of them may be a planet. They are called exoplanets. And some of them may be in the habitable zone and have everything for life to form on them. From a list of 4,500 known exoplanets, scientists have identified 24 that can be superhabitable. This is the type of planet that is suitable for the existence and evolution of life even more than the Earth!

  • These 24 Exoplanets May Be Better For Life Than Earth | Superhabitable Planets

In our science class, we all learned that the conditions on Earth are perfect for life to thrive but our books and teacher might’ve been wrong. If we rank the habitable planets, Earth actually finishes at 25th place. Some of these planets orbit stars that may be better than even our sun.
Life as we know could easily sustain on planets that orbit more slowly changing stars with much longer lifespans than our sun. These newly discovered 24 planets are more than 100 light-years away, so for the time being, they are far beyond our grasp.
A habitable planet has the right conditions to sustain life. It has things like pleasant temperatures, magnetic fields, liquid water, and breathable atmosphere. Our sun is a G-class star and the team of scientists looked at systems with similar stars and planets orbiting them in the habitable zone. They are not too far nor too close from their parent star. Sun-like stars only live for 10 billion years. That's why scientists also looked at the much dimmer, cooler, and even better K-class dwarf stars. These stars have lifespans of 20 billion to 70 billion years.
Earth is geologically active and that is why it is habitable, has a protective magnetic field, and has strong enough gravity to keep the atmosphere. According to scientists, if the Earth was 10 percent larger, it would have more surface area to live on. If it was 1.5 times as massive, its inner core would retain more heat from radioactive decay. Hence It would remain active longer, and hold onto its atmosphere for longer periods of time. Similarly, if an alien world was 5° C or 8° F warmer than the Earth and had more water, it would have the biodiversity of rainforest over much of the planet.
According to Scientists, “On Earth, we have a great number of complex and diverse lifeforms that can survive in harsh environments. It is good to have adaptable life, but that doesn’t mean that we have the best of everything”.

There are hundreds of billions of planets caught up in the vast whirlpool of the Milky Way Galaxy. From Earth, a lonely outpost floating on one of its spiral arms, humans have begun to peer across the void… and just recently scientists have found the first Earth-sized Habitable-zone world!

NASA's exoplanet program was created to find unmistakable signs of life on other planets. How soon we find life will depend on two things: the prevalence and existence of life in the galaxy, and the advancement of technology as we begin to explore our universe.

  • A Potentially Habitable Super Earth Has Been Discovered

The universe is too big for us to be the only ones in it. It's just a matter of knowing where to look, and scientists from NASA's TESS program might have stumbled across the next clue in this galactic scavenger hunt. The Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite was launched in April of 2019 with the aim of locating planets in orbit around nearby stars.

One of these stars is the comparatively small GEE-JAY 357. It's about 31 light-years from Earth. It's one of the closest to Earth! Thanks to TESS, NASA astronomers discovered a planet orbiting this distant star. And in fact, it’s one of the few whose atmosphere can be studied by scientists, once they determine if it has one!

    #planets #space #brightside

    - GEE-JAY 357 b is believed to be about twenty-two percent larger than Earth, and eleven times closer to its star than Mercury is to the Sun.
    - Scientists have discovered planets beyond our solar system before, but GEE-JAY 357-b is one of the closest to Earth.
    - Hidden beyond the semi-molten glow of this “hot Earth,” as astronomers called it, were two more planets. One of them, GEE-JAY 357-d is just far enough from the star to potentially support life.
    - Its orbiting inside its solar system's habitable zone, warm enough to support life, but not so warm that it ends up charbroiled.
    - NASA scientists estimate that that planet has an average temperature of about minus sixty-four degrees. That’s cold, comparable to the interior of Antarctica.
    - I wouldn’t expect any alien visitors for most of the same reasons humans will probably never be visiting GEE-JAY 357-d for themselves.
    - If intelligent life developed, there’s no reason to believe it wouldn’t sooner or later turn its sensory organs to the stars. That's when the planet's gravity becomes an obstacle. I
    - Scientists have estimated that reaching the moon of a planet ten times the size of Earth, would require almost five hundred thousand tons of fuel to get off the ground.
    - It is worth noting that Astronomers haven't yet been able to see any of these planets directly. The TESS only discovered the massive and hot planet b because of its silhouette passing in front of the star.
    - Since c and d never passed between Earth and GEE-JAY 357 during the month when TESS was able to capture images of the star, we've only been able to study them indirectly.
    - The middle planet, called GEE-JAY 357-c just to make things confusing, didn’t even give us that. Because of its unusually tilted orbit, this planet never passes between Earth and its star at all.

  • These Planets Are Better For Life Than Earth

There are more than 4,000 known exoplanets, planets we've found outside the Solar System. Recently scientists studied all of them one by one and have selected 24 superhabitable planets. These planets are better suited for life than Earth. They could support more diverse flora and fauna and their environment would be more hospitable some of those planets are Kepler-452b, Kepler-442b & Kepler-22b.

According to the scientists, for a planet to be superhabitable, it has to be older it has to be larger and wetter than Earth. A larger planet would have more habitable area its core radioactive decay would last longer and the strong gravity would retain atmosphere. Scientists also pointed that its star should have a long life because that would give life more time to evolve. Our Sun's life is about 10 billion years and it took 4 billion years for complex life to evolve.

  • Kepler Found Planets Better Than Earth

Maybe, their planet it's even better than our planet. Maybe, there are planets better than Earth.
That's exactly what recent studies on the Kepler mission data seem to suggest.
But how would these planets look? Which characteristics could it have?
These question, and more like how Kepler found planets better than Earth.
Kepler was a space telescope designed to survey a portion of the Milky Way galaxy in search of exoplanets, which are planets outside our solar system.

Using data from the Kepler mission and the extended K2 mission, scientists have identified more than 2,800 candidate planets and have confirmed more than 2,600 of these as bona fide exoplanets. A handful of planets are thought to be rocky like Earth (but a bit bigger), and orbit in the habitable zone of their stars, where liquid water - an essential ingredient of life as we know it - might exist.
After nine years in deep space collecting data that indicate our sky to be filled with billions of hidden planets - more planets even than stars - NASA's Kepler space telescope has run out of fuel needed for further science operations. NASA has decided to retire the spacecraft within its current, safe orbit, away from Earth. Kepler leaves a legacy of more than 2,600 planet discoveries from outside our solar system, many of which could be promising places for life. They are the so-called “Earth-like” exoplanets.

NASA's Kepler mission revolutionized our scientific understanding of our place in the cosmos by a huge amount of discoveries.
Before Kepler, we had just a few information about exoplanets. For example, how many planets are out there? Which planets are more common? The big gaseous ones, as Jupiter? The ring-giant planets like Saturn? And what about Venus-like planets? Do they exist just in our solar system? And if so, why?
All of these were very interesting questions, that needed to be answered.
But the universe is always a little bit more creative then we are.
Here's what we know after Kepler.
Planets outnumber the stars. Kepler has proven there are more planets than stars in our galaxy — and knowing that revolutionizes our scientific understanding of our place in the cosmos.
Small planets are common. Kepler has shown us our galaxy is teeming with terrestrial-size worlds; the most recent analysis of Kepler’s discoveries concludes that 20 to 50 per cent of the stars in the sky are likely to have small, possibly rocky planets similar in size to Earth within the habitable zone of their parent stars, where water could pool on the planet surface. We still have much to learn about whether any of them could host life.
Planets are diverse. Kepler has discovered a diversity of planet types, opening our eyes to new possibilities. The most common size of planet Kepler found doesn’t exist in our solar system — a world between the size of Earth and Neptune — and we have much to learn about these planets.
Solar systems are diverse too! While our own inner solar system has four planets, Kepler found systems with considerably more planets — up to eight — orbiting close to their parent stars. The existence of these compact systems raises questions about how solar systems form: Are these planets “born” close to their parent star, or do they form farther out and migrate in?
New insights revealed about stars. Besides launching us into the golden age of exoplanets, Kepler has reinvigorated the study of stars. Kepler observed more than a half-million stars over the course of its nine years in operation.

???? Our unique shop on Amazon (US only):

The Hubble Telescope orbits our planet, looking out at the big unknown universe. Since it’s out of our atmosphere, the Hubble can see way further than telescopes on land. No clouds up there. This guy helped us confirm the theory about supermassive black holes in the centers of galaxies. It also discovered a whole bunch of new galaxies, including the world's oldest one, which is about 8 billion years older than our Milky Way!

But let’s travel 25 light-years away to another special star. Fomalhaut. It's almost twice as big and heavy as the Sun. If you look at it from far away, you can see a bright yellow disk around it. It’s a debris disk, full of bits of space rock, and it’s huge. Scientists were curious about it, was all this space dust gonna get smooshed together and become a planet one day? But then they saw something else! Right there, through all that debris, was a massive mysterious object...

So we've made a list of the most important space discoveries of 2020 that will impress you.

And we’ll start with one of the most recent and shocking discoveries of 2020. Perhaps our Solar System has life beyond Earth. This is Venus. The second planet from the Sun and the sister of our home planet. For many years, there have been discussions on this subject. But in the fall of 2020, there was an epic argument, in which scientists tried to find out whether life on Venus exists right now. In September, the discovery of a new life marker on Venus was announced.

    Number 10: Kepler-10b
We're kicking off our countdown with Kepler-10b. Kepler-10B is the first confirmed terrestrial planet to be discovered outside the Solar System by the Kepler Space Telescope.

    Number 9: Trappist 1-B
In the ninth spot of our list, we have TRAPPIST 1-b, a planet that has beaten most of our planets in the moon department.

    Number 8: J1407B
Also known as Super-Saturn, this planet is extremely intriguing due to how it looks.

    Number 7: CoRot-7 b
In the seventh spot of our list, we have CoRot-7 B, a planet with such a short orbital period that it revolves around its host star in around 20 hours.

    Number 6: GJ 436 b
This planet is a physical contradiction. Its temperature is about 822 degrees F, certainly hot enough to evaporate water.

    Number 5: Wasp 12B
In the fifth spot of our list, we have Wasp 12B, a planet that's notorious for being elongated in a really strange shape due to the gravity of its parent star and its effect on it.

    Number 4: HD 106906 b
It was originally suggested that the planet known as HD 106906 b shouldn’t exist due to it’s size and distance from its star.

    Number 3: 55 Cancri E
In the third spot of our list, we have 55 Cancri E, a planet almost everyone on Earth would love if they could just traverse 40 light years to it.

    Number 2: Kepler 70 b
We’ve seen blistering hot planets in this list, but none are as absolutely scorching as Kepler 70b, the hottest planet in the Universe.

    Number 1: Kepler-16b
This is one of the few known circumbinary planets, which means that it circles around two stars, similar to Luke Skywalker's home planet in Star Wars.

  • Did TESS Discover Planets Better Than Earth?

Did TESS Telescope Discover Planets better than Earth?
Tess mission was launched: to persevere and discover other exoplanets. To pursue the noble aim of finding Earth's lost twin.

As we can read on Tess official website:

“TESS is an MIT-led NASA mission, an all-sky survey for transiting exoplanets. Transiting planets are those that go in front of the star as seen from the telescope and, to date, is the most successful discovery technique for finding small exoplanets.

TESS tiles the sky with 26 segments, observing the southern hemisphere in the first year of mission operation and the northern hemisphere in the second year. TESS has a unique, highly elliptical cislunar orbit about Earth. With a 27.4 day observing period per segment, the satellite is most sensitive to exoplanets with periods of less than 13 days (so that at least two transits are used for discovery). “

The circular regions where segment overlap at the ecliptic poles have observing a period of just over 100 days, enabling longer period planets to be discovered. These regions are known as continuous viewing zones (CVs).

TESS anticipates the discovery of thousands of exoplanets of all sizes around a variety of star types. It has committed to delivering 50 planets of size less than 4 Earth radii with measured masses to the community. An international effort under the TESS Follow-up Operations Program (TFOP) is committed to observations to distil the TESS planet candidates down to the list of 50 with measured masses, using the best ground-based telescopes in the world.

A little time ago, in 2020, TESS has discovered its first Earth-size planet in its star’s habitable zone, the range of distances where conditions may be just right to allow the presence of liquid water on the surface. Scientists confirmed the find, called TOI 700 d, using NASA’s Spitzer Space Telescope and have modelled the planet’s potential environments to help inform future observations.
TOI 700 d is one of only a few Earth-size planets discovered in a star's habitable zone so far. Others include several planets in the TRAPPIST-1 system and other worlds discovered by NASA’s Kepler Space Telescope.

  • Scientists Discovered How It Rains on Other Planets! Its Not Water!

The weather on Earth varies a lot. On Earth it can rain normally, as liquid water, or water can come from the sky in the form of ice or snowflakes. But have you ever wondered what rain looks like on other planets in the universe? Many planets have different atmospheres and therefore completely different weather conditions than our Earth. Here we look at other planets and what ''rain'' looks like outside our own atmosphere.

  • How Youd Look Living on Different Planets

Check out new Bright Side MERCH (worldwide shipping!) at:

Why do we look the way we look? Most of it’s down to our planet Earth, its atmosphere, gravity, that kind of stuff. When you go on a weeklong beach getaway, you get a tan. Basic. But what about living on a whole other planet? What would we look like if we lived on another planet of the Solar System?

One astronaut spent a whole year living on the International Space Station. Zero gravity means no healthy pressure on your body, so his bones - got weaker. So did his muscles. It also gave him more space between his vertebrae, so he got a bit taller. And that’s only a year. The more time you spend at the beach, the darker your tan gets… so… What if we moved to Mars or Mercury?

  • 9 Earth-Like Planets We Can Move On Right Now

What planets can people live on? You might be happy to learn that 8.8 billion Earth-sized planets have been discovered so far. Over 30 of those planets in our Milky Way galaxy are very likely to be habitable to human being. Scientific teams have been hard at work trying to discover habitable planets. We don’t know if any of those planets hold extraterrestrial life, but we’ll worry about that when we get there!

    - 1,200 light-years from Earth, the Kepler spacecraft discovered the Kepler-62 system. Kepler-62e is an exoplanet, believed to be a water world.
    - Kepler-62f is neighbor to Kepler-62e, and they are the only 2 habitable planets in the Kepler-62 system. A study showed that Kepler-62f is most likely covered entirely in water.
    - It is possible that Kepler-186f has an atmosphere that can keep the water on its surface a liquid, which is a must-have for life on Earth as we know it. Since Kepler-186f orbits a star that is cooler than the sun, we’d all be much colder than on Earth (if we were to live there).
    - A little farther away than the Kepler system, at 1,700 light-years away, we encounter KOI 7711.01. It has been called “Earth’s twin,” and it’s only 30% larger than Earth. Like Earth, it orbits a sun-like star.
    - Kepler-22b is 2.4 times larger than Earth, and it also orbits a sun-like star. That’s why it has a comfortable temperature of 72ºF, so you can expect to feel toasty but not too hot.
    - Gliese 581g was discovered in September 2010, and it is only 20 light-years away! It’s thought to be even more Earth-like than Kepler-22b in that it could be a better home to plants and animals.
    - They say that Ross 128 b is in “Earth’s backyard” because it is only 11 light-years away. Ross 128 b was discovered in 2017.
    - Proxima b is 1.3 times the size of Earth. It is the closest temperate world to Earth, which means that if you were to travel there, you’d experience almost the same temperature as on Earth.
    - 40 light-years away, we encounter the TRAPPIST system. NASA announced this major discovery in 2017. The TRAPPIST-1 system holds 7 planets, all Earth-sized and all habitable, surrounding a single star.

  • Super Earth Planet Could Be Our Next Home

Some of our questions about Space never get old: Is there life outside of our home planet Earth? And are there planets that resemble ours?  Kepler-1649c is now the most similar exoplanet yet found to Earth. However, it's not in our solar system and, therefore, very far away. But doesn't this fact raise hopes it could be our next home?

Actually Space is full of surprises and unusual celestial bodies: for example, there're some planets where it's alway night, others where it rains glass and planets with a diamond core. Wow! I wish I could reach that planet!

  • Scientists Find Promising SUPERHABITABLE Planets!

Scientists find promising 'superhabitable' planets that may be 'better' than Earth
On Earth, there is life virtually everywhere there is liquid water. As such, the hunt for extraterrestrial life has focused on so-called habitable or Goldilocks zones — areas around stars temperate enough for planets to possess liquid water on their surfaces.
Since Earth is the only inhabited world known, this planet is usually the focus of studies on habitability. However, scientists have reasoned that worlds other than Earth-like ones could offer conditions suitable for life to emerge and evolve. Such worlds might even prove super-habitable, or have better chances at hosting life than Earth.
How many more years will Earth be habitable?
Are there planets more habitable than Earth?
What is the most habitable planet besides Earth?
What are other factors that would make a planet superhabitable?

  • Scientists Have Found Out That a 9th Planet Exists, but Something Strange Is Happening!

The technical advances of recent years have not stopped at the field of astronomy. Gigantic discoveries such as the first photo of a black hole show that there are still numerous unexplored objects and phenomena in our universe. According to extrapolations by astrophysicists, there are probably as many as 100 billion galaxies in space and an equally large number of planets in the Milky Way alone, whose existence we have not yet learned of. The section of the universe, which humans can see, resembles a tiny puzzle piece, which is put together by researchers for centuries piece by piece. Not even the solar system known to us has been completely explored, as can be seen from the discovery of the possible dwarf planet Farout only two years ago or the discussion about a gas in the atmosphere of Venus that could indicate life. For several years, researchers have also speculated about the possibility of another planet in our solar system. Since Pluto's planetary status was revoked, eight have been counted among them. Newest research results from California let astronomy enthusiasts now again strongly listen: There is actually a mathematical proof for the ninth planet in our solar system!

    Tenth Place: Arrokoth
We'll be kicking off our list with the discovery and flight of Arrokoth, the most distant object explored up close in our system. In 2016, the New Horizons probe reached Pluto and took the first pictures of it when it flew over the planet.

    Ninth Place: The Cosmic Wave
To understand this fantastic discovery, first we have to understand a bit about how space and our universe works. Every galaxy in the observable universe is a small dot or landmark on a long line of gas known as the cosmic web.

Eighth Place: Teegarden’s Star habitable planets
In June 2019, researchers reported that they had found two Earth-like exoplanets circling a red dwarf known as Teegarden's Star, which lies only 12.5 light-years from Earth.

    Sixth Place: The Heliopause
We know all about our atmosphere, magnetosphere, asteroids, comets and all kinds of objects that come in contact with earth and get promptly disintegrated by these protective fields.

    Fifth Place: Orphaned Planet
If you know a little bit about stars and their lives, you might know that when a star runs out of fuel and collapses, it might become a white dwarf, which is the crystalline corpse of a star.

    Fourth Place: Solar Tsunamis
Tsunamis are never good news, and tsunamis in the Sun are definitely not good news either, while still sounding like an awe-inspiring phenomenon.

    Third Place: Mid-mass Black Hole
Whenever something nears a black hole, it's difficult to really get out of its gravitational pull.

    Second Place: Baby Black Holes
Black Holes are without a doubt space's most terrifying objects. In March 2019, some Japanese astronomers wanted to search baby pictures of the universe by pointing their telescope to a corner of space around 13 billion light years away.

    First Place: Real-life Tatooine
If you've watched Star Wars, you probably remember the planet Tatooine fondly. Thanks to help
from NASA's transiting exoplanet survey satellite, the NASA was able to find a strange exoplanet in a three-star system in our galaxy.

  • NASA Recently Discovered 10 Planets Similar to Earth!

Unser blauer Planet erfüllt all diese Voraussetzungen.
