Happy New Year to you all! This year I’m betting is going to be even crazier than last. We’ve got a bunch to cover today including the SpaceX Starship Booster being removed and Starship Static Fire, a JWST update. Russia launched its Proton successor, the Angara A5 rocket. OneWeb ended the year on a high note. Finally, something we worked quite hard on to celebrate the past year!

The lead up to the weekend certainly hasn’t slowed down the space industry with a mountain of stuff to cover today. SpaceX hosted some special visitors at Starbase recently and they were particularly interested in a specific prototype onsite. Plenty happening at the build site as well as Raptor 2 development news from Texas. The James Webb Space Telescope is scheduled to take flight right before this video goes live. And SpaceX launched Turksat 5B earlier this week along with CRS-24, at the same time as setting 2 new company records in the process.

SpaceX's Mechazilla HUGE TESTING Robot chopstick, Booster & Ship QD. Starship 20 & B4 New update.

It happened! SpaceX's Mechazilla finally got some important testing. Notably, the Robot chopstick moved for the first time. Meanwhile, both Booster & Ship QD were extended.
Besides, Elon Musk just revealed some updates on Starship's latest design.
A start exactly like what Musk just tweeted: Let’s make the roaring 20’s happen!
So, what exactly is going on at Starbase in the first days of this year?

Let’s find out more in today’s episode of SpaceX Fans:
Welcome back to SpaceX Fans, don't forget to hit subscribe and turn on the notification feature to make sure that you won’t miss any interesting information about Elon Musk, SpaceX, or anything related to Space. Now let’s get back to today’s content.

Firstly, SpaceX Mechazilla awakened with a lot of tower testing recently!
At 10:30 pm on 2nd January, we saw the first test of the robot chopsticks: Going up about 5ft and then back down in about 15 minutes to make sure that the Automated Drawworks Systems, the cables, the pulleys, and all the systems working according to the plan.
This crazy moment was wonderfully captured by the LabPadre team. Big thanks to them! Keeping us all up to date with the latest Starbase activities. I can't wait to see the SpaceX team using this amazing mechanism to lift the Booster to the orbital launch mount and mount the ship on top of the booster, for now, let's not talk about the catching, and go step by step.
Meanwhile, it can be seen that SpaceX teams are removing scaffolding around the orbital launch tower. This is one of the last remaining items before Mechazilla can start performing curls with Booster4 and Ship20!! Looks likely they’ll test the loading points, test the conveyors for alignment, then lift Booster 4 back onto the Orbital Launch Mount without the crane next time! This is just my prediction.
Oh, talking about Booster 4, at the time we made this video, SpaceX is connecting Booster 4 to the big Liebherr LR 11000 again.

The first 200 get 20% off the annual Brilliant subscription!

Again a stupidly busy December week running up to the end of the year. Incredible stuff to share at Starbase such as the SpaceX Starship Capability Boost this beast being mounted and this incredible steering footage shared by Elon, the B2.1 test tank finally meeting the ‘Can Crusher’, and very interesting insights with Ship 20. We have the Starlink mission to break record as well. Sadly, a new delay with the James Webb Space Telescope, and then we have Blue Origin’s BE-4 delay and NS-19 first fully seated flight. We had Russia’s latest Proton launch, but also, a cosmonaut scheduled to fly on a Dragon!? Yep, you heard that right. China’s launch cadence is attracting more attention of late as well. So yes, it's been another huge week.

  • Launch It! Elon Musk Reacts To FAAs Denial of SpaceXs Starship Super Heavy Orbital Launch.

    10:44

In mid-November, the FAA revealed plans to complete SpaceX’s “SpaceX Starship/Super Heavy Launch Vehicle Program” programmatic environmental assessment – a review that can be built upon down the road – by December 31st, 2021, officially delaying Starship’s first orbital launch attempt into 2022. Based on the lack of updates from the FAA and progress with the Starship and booster assigned to the mission, that delay was already largely expected, but the rare update nonetheless confirmed it with certainty. Now, less than a month and a half after the FAA announced its Dec 31st target, the agency has waited until three days before that estimated deadline to announce that it will take at least two more months to complete the review.

Somewhat insultingly, in its official statement on the delay, the FAA appears to attempt to implicate the review of “over 18,000 public comments” received during a comment period as a source of those delays. That six-week comment period ended on November 1st, weeks before the FAA published its first December 31st target date. In other words, for comment reviews to be responsible for any of the new delays, the FAA’s environmental compliance group would have had to underestimate the amount of work required to complete that process by at least 100% – not all that encouraging for an agency in which precision and accuracy are of the utmost importance.

  • SpaceX’s First Orbital Starship Launch Runs Into More FAA Delays | SpaceX News

    2:51

SpaceX’s First Orbital Starship Launch Runs Into More FAA Delays | SpaceX News
SpaceX Starship/Super Heavy launch delayed until at least March 2022.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced today that the Final Programmatic Environmental Assessment has been delayed until February 28, 2022. This places the orbital launch attempt in March 2022 at the earliest.

SpaceX and the FAA have been working towards finalizing the Programmatic Environmental Assessment (PEA) for launching Starship and Super Heavy out of Boca Chica, Texas, since the closure of the public comment period. Over 18,000 comments were received, and SpaceX is drafting responses to these comments. While SpaceX is working on these comments, the FAA is consulting and coordinating with local and national agencies. Both of these lead to the delay in the final PEA.

SpaceX continues work down in South Texas while this is all ongoing. They recently conducted a couple of cryogenic tests of Super Heavy booster 4, and Starship 20 could conduct a static fire as soon as today. In between these tests, work continues to prepare the launch site for orbital operations. In addition, there were reports of issues with the tank farm at the orbital launch site, and it is understood that SpaceX is working on corrections to these issues.

While this delay is disappointing, SpaceX is not prepared for its orbital launch attempt. The launch mount is still receiving attention while work continues on the launch tower and catch arms. Booster 4 still needs to have its own static fire tests too. However, the Final PEA is only part of the story. SpaceX will still need a launch license or an experimental launch permit to conduct the orbital launch.

The environmental review is just one part of the FAA commercial space licensing process. SpaceX’s license application must also meet FAA safety, risk and financial responsibility requirements.

While the Final PEA may be completed at the end of February, the launch license review process could take another month. So realistically, we’re looking at April 2022 for SpaceX to get the go-ahead for an orbital launch.

  • Catch! Elons Big Update on SpaceXs High Speed Catch Arm Test on Launch Tower, Next Test Booster 4

    8:04

SpaceX began a much more ambitious series of tests with the Starship launch tower’s two main arms, which are designed to lift and (one day) catch Starships and Super Heavy boosters.

After lifting the arm carriage about ~50 ft, several times higher than January 3rd’s far more conservative kick-off, SpaceX fired up each arm’s main hydraulic actuator and opened them about as wide as they’re able to move. Unsurprisingly, the arms’ first powered lateral movement happened very slowly, obviously telegraphing caution but probably also hinting at the start of a calibration process needed to determine their full range of motion and associate those positions with certain sensor readings or telemetry to ensure they can be safely controlled. As of midnight CST, that testing has continued well into the night.

Regardless of the purpose, substantial powered movement is a major milestone for the tower’s main arms and all but guarantees that more extensive tests and simulations are soon to come.

SpaceX drone ship - Of Course I Still Love You, departed Port Canaveral on January 1st, heading to sea on the first day of the year for SpaceX’s first launch of 2022.

SpaceX will soon fly Starship on its first orbital flight. From there though, when does reusability change everything? This is definitely not an easy task: You’ve only got to look at how much the Starship design has changed just over the last year or two. The goal of the entire 120 meter Starship stack is for it to be fully AND rapidly reusable. It’s the new holy grail of rocketry. Lets explore how far we've come, and how far we need to go.

Elon Musk JUST REVEALED SpaceX NEW Raptor Engine!
    ???? Subscribe -

SpaceX designed and constructed the Raptor series of full-flow staged combustion cycle rocket engines for use on the SpaceX Starship, which is still in development.
The Raptor engine produces more than twice as much thrust as SpaceX's Merlin 1D engine, which powers the Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy launch vehicles.
Raptor is utilized in the Starship system in the Super Heavy booster and the Starship spacecraft, which serves as the second stage when launched from Earth and as an autonomous spacecraft in LEO and beyond.
In 2009, SpaceX had a few people working on the Raptor upper-stage engine on a low-priority basis. The development initiative was mentioned again in 2011. According to press reports from March 2012, the Raptor upper-stage engine development program was ongoing, but no specifics were made public.

  • NASA Finally Launching Boeings Faulty Starliner to ISS Avoiding Elon Musks SpaceX Falcon Booster

    8:06

NASA and Boeing are planning no earlier than May 2022 for the rescheduled second uncrewed test flight of the CST-100 Starliner spacecraft after deciding to change service modules for that mission.

Under the revised plan, the service module that had been built for the Crew Flight Test mission, the flight of that vehicle to carry people, will instead be used for the Orbital Flight Test 2 mission. The CFT mission will instead use the service module for the first operational mission, called Starliner-1.

“Our objective was to get back to flight safely and as soon as possible. With this objective in mind, we set out on parallel paths: remediating valves to preserve the option of utilizing the existing service module, while also working to accelerate the build of the next service module,” John Vollmer, vice president and program manager for Boeing’s commercial crew program, said in a Dec. 13 statement. “Based on the results to date we’ve decided to fly SM4 next and continue longer-term tests with SM2 hardware, on the vehicle and in offline facilities.”

In a new statement focused on Cape Canaveral’s “exceptionally busy” 2022 schedule, a senior US Space Force (formerly Air Force) official has implied that SpaceX is already targeting five East Coast launches in the first month of the new year.

While the director didn’t specifically state who is launching, they did confirm that “seven total launches” are scheduled out of Cape Canaveral facilities (including NASA’s Kennedy Space Center) in January 2022 – five to “polar” orbits and two to more traditional semi-equatorial inclinations. While most of the “polar” launches referred to are likely not actually polar under the definition of launching satellites that will more or less orbit the Earth’s poles, the phrase still all but guarantees that five of those planned launches are Falcon 9 rockets.

Spacex will likely conduct the world's largest can crusher test to date, including RUD. The Starship Booster Test Tank B2.1 is already on the can crusher test rig and testing could begin before the end of the year.
Since SpaceX always pushes the envelope in their testing, a RUD (Rapid Unscheduled Disassembly) is a distinct possibility.

  • FINALLY! SpaceX is OFFICIALLY Launching Their New Starship To Orbit 2022!

    8:06

FINALLY! SpaceX is OFFICIALLY Launching Their New Starship To Orbit 2022!
SpaceX is just months away from its 20th anniversary of founding in 2002 and it's headed into a new year in a stronger position than ever. In 2021, the California-based company built its strength in fields ranging from broadband communications to human launches. The steady push by SpaceX into space exploration and eventual Mars landings is rapidly disseminating into popular culture, especially in the form of its fiery CEO and founder Elon Musk, who puts musings and predictions on Twitter almost daily. This year alone, Musk began (reportedly) accepting payments for missions in the cryptocurrency Dogecoin and made a Saturday Night Live guest appearance in which he participated in multiple skits, even playing the Nintendo supervillain Wario.

Huge thanks to all these amazing SpaceX Artists. Please follow them and support them through Payoneer and Twitter.

Musk gave an interview in Time Magazine (where he was named the 2021 individual of the year) in which he outlined the vision for the company.

The goal overall has been to make life multi-planetary and enable humanity to become a spacefaring civilization, Musk told Time, discussing usual aspects of his vision including reusable rockets and landing on Mars.

SpaceX will try to fly a Starship to orbit for the first time early next year if all goes according to plan.

The company is targeting January or February for its first Starship orbital launch attempt, SpaceX founder and CEO Elon Musk said Wednesday (Nov. 17). And that initial landmark leap will ideally be followed by a number of others shortly thereafter.

We intend to do, hopefully, a dozen [Starship] launches next year, Musk said during a live-streamed presentation at the joint fall meeting of the Space Studies Board and Board on Physics and Astronomy, both of which are part of the U.S. National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine. Maybe more.

Starship consists of two elements, both of which are designed to be fully and rapidly reusable: a huge first-stage booster known as Super Heavy and a 165-foot-tall (50 meters) spacecraft called Starship. Both are powered by SpaceX's next-generation Raptor engine, six in the case of Starship and 29 for Super Heavy (at the moment at least; the booster will eventually sport 33 Raptors, Musk said).

SpaceX is developing this ambitious transportation system to get people and payloads to the moon, Mars, and other distant destinations.

Ultimately, Starship is designed to be a generalized transport mechanism for the greater solar system, Musk said.

SpaceX has launched a handful of test flights with Starship prototypes from its Starbase facility, which is near the South Texas village of Boca Chica. But those hops reached a maximum altitude of about 6 miles (10 kilometers) and featured vehicles with just three engines.

The upcoming orbital test flight will involve a Starship prototype called SN20, which has the full complement of six Raptors, and a 29-engine Super Heavy known as Booster 4. The duo will lift off from Starbase. Booster 4 will splash down shortly after liftoff in the Gulf of Mexico, but SN20 will make one loop around Earth and come down in the Pacific Ocean, near the Hawaiian island of Kauai.

SpaceX could not launch the mission right now even if it wanted to, because the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is conducting an environmental assessment of the orbital launch activities at Starbase. That review is expected to wrap up by Dec. 31, FAA officials announced recently, and SpaceX intends to get off the ground not long after.

  • IT HAPPENED! SpaceX Is FINALLY Launching Their New Starship To Orbit 2021!

    8:45

If you have ever achieved a major feat before, you would know the exhilarating feeling
as you got closer to your goal! Elon Musk, the billionaire CEO of SpaceX, must be in
such a state of euphoria as one of his most audacious projects ever is nearing
completion! Musk’s Starship, the tallest and most powerful rocket ever built, is finally
ready to conquer orbit! How has SpaceX prepared the Starship for this inaugural orbit
flight, and what does it mean for Musk?
In this video, we dive into all the juicy details of SpaceX finally going to orbit!
Elon Musk is among the rare individuals that inhabit the intersection of desiring to go to
Mars and having access to the resources to push the dream through! Backed by the
massive fortune he has acquired as the world’s wealthiest industrialist, Musk remains
dogged in his ambition to make Mars a habitable place for the human race! However,
going to Mars and moving a million people there in a short period requires much more
than desire and resources! It needs lots of brains and foresight. Fortunately, Musk is
well endowed in these aspects as well!
The first step is to arrange the mode of transport. To move a million people over millions
of miles in deep space, lots of factors have to come into play. The biggest one is the
cost! Half a century of mostly theoretical analysis has made it abundantly clear that a
permanent and sustainable extraterrestrial human outpost is impossible without a
radical reduction in the cost of access to space. For decades, even NASA has studied
and studied and studied different plans, but the cost to send a few astronauts to Mars
for a few months at a time has been prohibitive! It would cost the government hundreds
    of billions of dollars.
This is where Musk has to play it smart! The first step is to reduce the cost of transport
significantly because, even for the richest man alive, there are limits! This is why
SpaceX is building the Starship, which despite being the most powerful rocket ever, will
reduce the cost of accessing deep space! The trick is to make it reusable, not in part as
SpaceX has been doing before with its Falcon rockets, but entirely in both stages!
This is easier said than done, though, because reusability introduces lots of
complexities due to the capacity it is intended to have!
Which brings us to another factor that Musk needs to work on to make his ambitions a
reality: the Starship must be very powerful! Apart from moving humans, the Starship will
need to move tons of other materials ahead of the colonizers. SpaceX has released
details of how the colonization will take place, and much of it revolves around the
Starship! Here is how things will work out initially for SpaceX to construct sustainable
    cities on Mars:
SpaceX will soon commence launching uncrewed Starships to Mars to both verify the
system’s maturity and readiness and deliver significant quantities of cargo to the surface
in advance of human arrival. By using a wide range of robotics, those early missions will
help SpaceX characterize local resources, stage supplies, test technologies for long-
duration Martian surface ops, and begin developing infrastructure – with a propellant
plant likely the most pressing need. This, however, is just baby steps! The early
uncrewed missions will deliver equipment for increased power production, water
extraction, LOX/methane production, pre-prepared landing pads, radiation shielding,
dust control equipment, exterior shelters for humans and equipment, and more! All
these are the hardware needed to support the first human base! Without them, there is
    no human base on Mars!
Next is the actual arrival of humans on the planet. SpaceX says for the first few years,
they will live on Starships that brought them until additional habitats are available! This
will then free up the Starships for other uses as needed to support the humans. The
Starships will be valuable assets on the planet as they will be used for storage,
habitation, scientific laboratories, and sources of refined metal structures and resources!
The crazy part of SpaceX’s plan is that the Mars-bound Starships could take off even
before NASA uses the rocket to land its astronauts on the moon! Also, while the space
agency will pay 2.9 billion dollars to SpaceX to use the Starship, Musk says all the
funding for the Starship has been internal and does not even plan to source funds
    externally! At least not yet!

Blue Origin and ULA team up against SpaceX, but it's a funny tragic story.

By “marriage” with Blue Origin, ULA has been developing its Vulcan rocket to replace its workhorse Atlas V rockets and, eventually, its Delta IV rockets, too. Vulcan will allow ULA to stop using Russian-made RD-180 rocket engines that power Atlas booster stages now, and to lower its base launch price closer to $100 million, which would put ULA in closer price competition with SpaceX. But how is that relationship between them now? What laughter-provoking story is going on? Will the intention to bring down SpaceX ever succeed? Let's find out in this episode

ULA's Atlas V rocket uses a Russian-made RD-180 engine but since relations started to deteriorate between the United States and Russia a decade ago, this became untenable to Congress, leds ULA managed to get rid of its dependence on Russia.
On the other hand, despite being born late, SpaceX always provokes seniors with its spectacular performances. SpaceX, in addition to operating commercial flights, it is also gradually jumping into the military sector, where ULA has manipulated through exclusive contracts since 2015. But when it was encroached on by SpaceX, ULA was gradually left behind and fewer military contracts. In the commercial field, ULA is even more inferior to their junior because their rockets are tens and even hundreds of millions of dollars more expensive than SpaceX's rockets. Of course, ULA couldn't sit idly by and watch as SpaceX gradually devoured their market. The veteran military contractor has sought change with plans to create a high-tech rocket called the Vulcan, at a competitive price point that can rival SpaceX's Falcon 9.
Talking about the relationship between Blue Origin and SpaceX, the two billionaires also continuously “throw shade” on social networks or on the media.
What will be will be. Two seniors, bitter at being provoked by their junior, shook hands for a plan to regain the market.
Blue Origin and ULA team up against SpaceX, but it's a funny tragic story.

  • Moving! SpaceX Just Now Tested Chopsticks Arm on Orbital Launch Tower For Catching Ship 20 & B4

    8:21

Yesterday around 10:30pm, Orbital Launch Tower’s chopsticks arms were tested. However, this was a small test with slight up and down movement, approximately 5ft up and back to its normal position. Although this test didn’t last for a long time, it was an amazing one too.

As is routine, SpaceX CEO Elon Musk has taken to Twitter to offer a few details about the status of Starship, its Raptor engines, and a few upgrades planned for both.

In mid-December, Musk revealed even more ambitious plans to upgrade Starship by stretching its propellant tanks and adding another three Raptor engines, potentially boosting the ship’s maximum thrust by 50% and substantially improving payload performance. These latest details are focused on an upgraded version of the Raptor engine and on additional changes to Starship’s structural design and assembly process.

The James Webb Space Telescope has now passed another critical milestone – the sunshield is deployed and it looks like a kite or diamond in space. The team will now begin the sunshield tensioning activities which include separating and stretching the five layers to create enough space between them to help radiate the heat.

    Elon Musk explained Starship Reentry

Launching a spacecraft into space is one thing. Bringing it back is another.

Spacecraft reentry is a tricky business for several reasons. When an object enters the Earth's atmosphere, it experiences a few forces, including gravity and drag. Gravity will naturally pull an object back to Earth. But gravity alone would cause the object to fall dangerously fast. Luckily, Earth's atmosphere contains particles of air. As the object falls, it hits and rubs against these particles, creating friction. This friction causes the object to experience drag, or air resistance, which slows down the object to a safer entry speed.

This friction is a mixed blessing, however. Although it causes drag, it also causes intense heat. Specifically, shuttles faced intense temperatures of about 3000 degrees Fahrenheit (about 1649 degrees Celsius). NASA has been challenged by this for decades.
Now, the question is raised with Starship, the rocket is expected to have continuous interplanetary voyages, how will Starships return from orbit?
Let’s find out in today’s episode:
Welcome back to SpaceX Fans, don't forget to hit subscribe and turn on the notification feature to make sure that you won’t miss any interesting information about Elon Musk, SpaceX, or anything related to Space. Now let’s get back to today’s content.

In the near future, as soon as getting FAA approval, SpaceX wants to begin putting its first full-scale Starship prototype through the first orbital flight. But exactly how Starship is meant to make it through orbital reentries – by far the most strenuous period for the ship and without a doubt the single most challenging engineering problem - is a hurdle that SpaceX must overcome.

  • SPACEXS MOST HISTORIC MOMENTS OF 2021!

    8:10

SPACEX'S MOST HISTORIC MOMENTS OF 2021! SpaceX News | Space Passion
SpaceX broke its annual launch record this year! It conducted a total of 31 Falcon 9 missions. Since its founding in 2002, the company has launched 138 successful missions, landed first-stage rocket boosters 100 times, and reflown boosters 78 times. SpaceX pushed the boundaries of rocket reusability by reusing a particular Falcon 9 booster an 11th time –a first in the history of rocketry. In fact, they launched 94% of all missions on flight-proven Falcon 9 boosters this year. SpaceX achieved so many amazing things from successfully landing Starship to launching the world's first all-civilian crew to orbit the Earth aboard Crew Dragon, and even launched humanity’s first planetary defense test to redirect an asteroid. As this year comes to an end, let’s look back at SpaceX’s most historic moments of 2021!

SpaceX is working hard to transform humanity into a multi-planet species. The company’s ultimate goal is to enable hundreds of people to live on Mars, as well as reduce the cost of spaceflight enough so that anyone who wants to experience going to outer space can be able to afford it. To achieve this, SpaceX engineers are developing a fully-reusable stainless-steel Starship that could be a multipurpose launch system to make spaceflight more affordable long-term. Starship consists of a spacecraft that could carry up to 100 tons of cargo (or a hundred passengers) and a gigantic Super Heavy rocket that propels the spacecraft to orbit.

  • James Webb Space Telescope: 5 Critical Events That Will Determine The Success

    10:57

    Commercial Purposes ► Lorenzovareseaziendale@gmail.com

The James Webb Telescope will be one of the hardest technical mission NASA will ever attempt. Despite the numerous delays, technical challenges, funding crisis and uncertainties the Mighty James Webb Telescope was launched on December 25. But The launch itself does not guarantee the success of James Webb . After decades of development it all comes down to 5 critical steps that will determine whether this 10 Billion dollar project of NASA will succeed or not.
5-) The Ariane 5 Launch- This is obviously one of the most important event in the journey of the James Webb Telescope.
4-) Separation and Solar Array Deployment- Occurring 30 minutes after the Launch, deploying the solar array is another critical process.
3.) Full sunshield deployment- After the deployment of the support structures another very critical step is the Sunshield deployment. If it fails, or if the tensioning catches or snags, the telescope will not cool, resulting in a catastrophic loss.
2-) Mirror Deployment- The anxiety of sunshield deployment will not go away soon. Six days into the trip, the telescope's secondary mirror will be lowered into position at the end of three long arms.
1-) L2 Orbit Insertion- The final and an important event is the L2 Orbit insertion. After all the 4 critical moments it will boil down to this final event, which will determine the position of James Webb. After the first 29 days, JWST will be 1,400,000 kilometers away from Earth, almost to its final destination of the L2 lagrange point.

    ======
Despite the relentless efforts of Elon Musk and SpaceX, the FAA's recent decision has dashed any hope of Starship's historic flight taking place early next year.
So, how much longer will Starship's landmark mission be delayed for? And what is Musk’s reaction to this?
Let’s find out in today’s episode of Great SpaceX!

As you can see, SpaceX has been actively preparing for the landmark test flight consistently for the past several months and even moreso in recent weeks.
But recently, SpaceX's latest prototype of Starship has breathed fire once more.
On Dec. 29, the Starship SN20 vehicle performed a static fire test at the company's Starbase site in South Texas, briefly igniting its Raptor engines while remaining anchored to the ground.
The trial continued the launch-prep campaign for SN20, which is scheduled to conduct the Starship program's first-ever orbital test flight in the coming months.
Huge thanks to LabPadre, as always, for documenting these great moments!
The test may have involved all six engines as well, though SpaceX has yet to provide confirmation.
