SpaceX Starship Update: NASA suspends SpaceX $2 9 billion moon lander contract after rivals protest

SpaceX Starship : Blue Origin Challenges NASA Over Moon Lander Deal | Elon Musk trolls Jeff Bezos

On 26th April, Jeff Bezos’s Blue Origin filed a protest over NASA’s decision with the Government Accountability Office. NASA has recently decided to select only SpaceX for their Human Landing System program. This decision was not up to Blue Origin’s liking and they protested. Their protest filing says, “NASA has executed a flawed acquisition for the Human Landing System program and moved the goalposts at the last minute. In NASA’s own words, it has made a ‘high risk’ selection.” In a lengthy filing, Blue Origin stated that NASA had not given them and other companies any opportunity to change their proposals to adjust with the agency’s reduced budget for the HLS program. They also stated in the filing that NASA had inadequately assessed aspects of their proposal and SpaceX’s proposal.

SN15 is ready to fly, despite the failure of the contract with NASA

Within the last week, while SpaceX has been diligently working to ready an upgraded Starship prototype for its first launch, former competitors Blue Origin and Dynetics – both of which recently lost a historic NASA Moon lander contract to SpaceX – have filed “protests” and forced the space agency to freeze work (and funds).

That means that NASA is now legally unable to use funds or resources related to its Human Lander System (HLS) program or the $2.9 billion contract it awarded SpaceX on April 16th to develop a variant of Starship to return humanity to the Moon. However, just like SpaceX has already spent a great deal of its own time and money on Starship development and – more recently – a rapid-fire series of launches, the company appears to have no intention of letting sore losers hamper its rocket factory or test campaign.

  • SpaceX returns 4 astronauts to Earth from International Space Station

SpaceX safely returned four astronauts from the International Space Station on Sunday, making the first U.S. crew splashdown in darkness since the Apollo 8 moonshot.

The Crew Dragon capsule parachuted into the Gulf of Mexico off the coast of Panama City, Florida, just before 3 a.m., ending the second astronaut flight for Elon Musk’s company.

The crew - NASA's Michael Hopkins, Victor Glover and Shannon Walker, and Japan's Soichi Noguchi - had launched from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida on Nov. 15, propelled by a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket.

It's not very often you get to wake up on the Space Station and go to sleep in Houston, Holly Ridings, NASA's chief flight director said at a news conference on Sunday.

The 167-day mission was the longest for a crew capsule launching from the U.S. The previous record of 84 days was set by NASA’s final Skylab station astronauts in 1974.

    3. SpaceX Crew Dragon Safely Returns Crew-1 Astronauts With A Splashdown In The Gulf Of Mexico.
NASA had not launched astronauts from American soil since the Space Shuttle was retired in 2011. Nearly a decade later SpaceX launched astronauts from the United States -igniting a new era in human spaceflight. In 2020 the aerospace company conducted the first operational mission, known as Crew-1, under the agency’s Commercial Crew Program that aims to make launching astronauts to space from American soil routine. The Crew-1 mission was a success thanks to SpaceX. Crew-1 NASA Astronauts Michael Hopkins, Victor Glover, Shannon Walker, and Soichi Noguchi of the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) launched to the International Space Station (ISS) atop SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket aboard the Crew Dragon Resilience spacecraft in November 15, 2020 from historic Launch Complex-39A at the John F. Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Florida. After a six-month-long stay at the Space Station, Crew-1 astronauts completed their mission with a safe return aboard Resilience this weekend.

FAA approved SpaceX to conduct flight tests with SN15, SN16 and SN17 in a decision. This has never happened before, to explain for this FAA said in a statement that it's approving these in a batch because “SpaceX is making few changes to the launch vehicle and relied on the FAA's approved methodology to calculate the risk to the public.

SpaceX Starship Update: NASA suspends SpaceX $2 9 billion moon lander contract after rivals protest
SpaceX’s Lander Contract Halted!! Let’s see why? On 30th April, Friday, NASA told SpaceX to halt work for the lunar lander contract, which SpaceX had won weeks ago to develop a lander version of Starship. Owing to the several challenges from the rival bidders of the Human Landing System at the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO), NASA had taken this step. Just after Blue Origin placed their protest, another bidder “Dynetics” filed their protest with the GAO on 26th April. Dynetics protested that NASA had selected only a single company for HLS, “Option A”, which is SpaceX. They also said that NASA had chosen “the most anti-competitive and high risk option available” when NASA got a low budget in fiscal year 2021. According to the protest filed by Dynetics, “NASA failed to consider the risks inherent in SpaceX’s technical approach and, more specifically, information too close at hand for NASA to ignore i.e., that four SpaceX Starships have exploded at various stages of their test flights in recent months. NASA has given SpaceX a pass on its demonstrable lack of such systems engineering.”

NASA suspends SpaceX’s $2.9 billion Moon Lander contract after rivals protest.

SpaceX's moon-lander project for NASA has been put on hold after rival bidders Dynetics and Blue Origin filed challenges with the Government Accountability Office.

In Dynetics' complaint, which was co-signed by Blue Origin asl well, the company argues that NASA should have withdrawn its request for bids earlier for the lunar project once it became clear it didn't have enough funding to proceed with two companies, as it had originally planned.

Hello everyone, Welcome to the latest SpaceX Starship updates video from SpaceX Fans.
Hope that you all Have a great day.
And now it’s time for the latest news about SpaceX.
    The following is general information.
SpaceX’s upgraded Starship set for test flight despite sore NASA contract losers.
A rocket has launched a quarter of the SpaceX Starlink satellites and it’s not done.
In reality, NASA could scarcely have been clearer that it was exceptionally sensitive about HLS funding and extremely motivated to attempt to return humans to the Moon by 2024 with or without the full support of Congress – albeit in fewer words. As Lueders herself noted in the HLS Option A award selection statement, the solicitation Blue, Dynetics, and SpaceX responded to states – word for word – that “the overall number of awards will be dependent upon funding availability and evaluation results.”
Additionally, implications that NASA somehow blindsided offerors with its lack of funding are woefully ignorant at best and consciously disingenuous at worse. Anyone with even the slightest awareness of the history of large-scale NASA programs would know that the space agency’s budget is all but exclusively determined by Congress each year and liable to change just as frequently if political winds shift. Short of blackmailing members of Congress or wistfully hoping that other avenues of legal political influence and partnership actually lead to desired funding and priorities appearing in appropriations legislation, NASA knows the future of its budget about as well as anyone else with access to the internet and a rudimentary awareness of history and current events.

The thruster flying this week (listed as B1049) will carry out its seventh Starlink mission, meaning that if all goes well, B1049 will be responsible for launching more than 25 percent of all Starlink satellites ever launched, all on its own. .

  • BREAKING: NASA Suspends Human Lander Contract With SpaceX

    #NASA #SpaceX #Starship
In a shocking reversal of its decision, U.S. space agency NASA has suspended its contract with SpaceX for the landing system to take astronauts to and from the lunar surface. Two rival bidders for the contract, billionaire Jeff Bezos-backed Blue Origin and Dynetics, have filed protests with the Government Accountability Office (GAO) forcing NASA to issued the halt order until GAO resolves the matter.

NASA's shocking decision comes barely a week after it awarded a $2.9 billion contract to eccentric billionaire Elon Musk's rocket company, SpaceX, to further develop their concepts for Human Landing Systems (HLS) as part of the Artemis program to return astronauts to the lunar surface. The high-profile project aims to put humans back on the moon for the first time since 1972

    GAO has 100 days — until August 4, 2021 — to make a decision.

Knowing Elon Musk, he'd likely continue to fund and develop his Human Lander System Starship and would go it alone in the event NASA cancels the contract altogether and awards it to a rival.

  • NASA Will Spend $2,941,394,557 On SpaceXs Massive Lunar Starship Lander!!!

Many people were surprised yesterday when news leaked that NASA was awarding all the funding from the Artemis Human Landing System program to SpaceX with its massive Lunar Starship project. SpaceX's price tag is about $2.9 billion with a commitment to fund half of it themselves. While most space watchers could see why SpaceX had made it to the final round most of us didn't expect it to be the only choice because it was so unlike what NASA was asking for.
However the HLS program only got 1/3 of the money it needed from Congress and with time marching on NASA had to make a decision and the only option with a price tag that fit was SpaceX.

The claws are coming out and Jeff Bezos isn't backing down. Recently NASA awarded SpaceX a 2.9 billion dollar contract for the lunar lander, the centerpiece of the Artemis Project. But Blue Origin has filed a protest with the Government Accountability Office, saying this award was not only flawed, it endangers the return to the moon. However, Elon Musk is not being subtle with his thoughts... tweeting some crude remarks aimed at Bezos.

Blue Origin announced Monday that it is protesting NASA's decision earlier this month to award a single $2.9 billion contract to SpaceX for the development of a new lunar lander for the agency's Artemis moon program, rejecting competing proposals from Blue Origin and Dynetics.
The Human Landing System, or HLS, is a key element in NASA's plans to return astronauts to the surface of the moon as early as 2024 using new Boeing-managed Space Launch System heavy-lift rockets, Lockheed Martin-built Orion crew capsules, and a small, commercially developed lunar space station known as Gateway.

Recently SpaceX won the lander contract to take NASA astronauts back to moon. Well Jeff Bezos's Blue Origin isn't happy and they are trying to overturn the result.

  • Blue Origin Protest | Blue Origin Vs SpaceX | NASA moon Contract | SN15 Updates | SN15 Launch Date

Jeff Bezos’ space company Blue Origin is fighting NASA’s decision to award SpaceX $2.9 billion to land astronauts on the Moon by 2024. NASA’s Human Landing System program, which funded the development of three rival lunar lander prototypes (including Blue Origin’s), was expected to pick two of those landers in April. But NASA opted for just one — SpaceX’s Starship — because of short funding from Congress.

  • The Hidden Meaning of SpaceXs moon contract

SpaceX was awarded the option A HLS contract by NASA. But there are more reasons behind that descision than stated.

  • SpaceX delivers 4 astronauts home to Earth with splashdown by moonlight

  • NASA Release Images of Moon-Orbiting Gateway Space Station

WASHINGTON — NASA has released images of its Lunar Gateway space station ahead of its proposed launch of two modules in 2024.

In a statement released on its website, NASA describes the station as “an outpost orbiting the Moon that provides vital support for a sustainable, long-term human return to the lunar surface.”

Gateway will work as a kind of pit stop for astronauts on their way to the Moon. NASA announced in February that after arriving at the station, astronauts will be delivered to the surface of the moon via a lunar lander built by Elon Musk’s SpaceX.

Eventually it is hoped that Gateway will operate as a “staging point” for missions to the Moon, NASA states on its website. But it could also operate as a port for spacecraft going beyond the moon, into deep space.

The process will begin in 2024 with the dual launch of the Power and Propulsion Element of the station and the Habitation and Logistics Outpost, which will initially provide living space for astronauts manning lunar missions, NASA says.

Sessions from NASA History Symposium – NASA and the Rise of Commercial Space

From activities in low-Earth orbit to the Artemis program, the commercial space industry is beginning to take on an increased role as innovator in both space access, commerce, and exploration. This growth of commercial space over the past decades offers the potential for a new paradigm for space exploration—one in which industry transitioned from supplier to partner. Still, many questions remain spanning from the most seemingly consequential “How will humanity explore the Moon and Mars?” to the more basic, “What is Commercial Space?” This virtually hosted symposium explores this transformation and examines the historical context for answering these questions.

  • BREAKING: Elon Musk said watching SpaceXs Friday astronaut launch was extremely intense - he coul

Elon Musk (left) arrives at NASA's Kennedy Space Center ahead of the Crew-2 launch (right) on April 23, 2021. Aubrey Gemignani/NASA via AP; Joe Skipper/Reuters Elon Musk watched SpaceX rocket four astronauts into orbit on Friday. Musk said he usually can't sleep the night before a launch. This is SpaceX's third astronaut flight, but Musk said it's still an extremely intense experience. The Florida sky exploded with light and ferocious rumbling on Friday morning as a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket roared to life at NASA 's Kennedy Space Center launchpad.
Elon Musk watched from a distance as the rocket climbed, a bright fireball in the dark sky, bound for the International Space Station. He hadn't gotten any sleep.
I usually can't sleep the night before launch, and that's true of the night before this one, Musk, the founder, CEO, and chief engineer of SpaceX, said in a press conference after the launch. Advertisement That's because there were four astronauts at the top of that rocket - Shane Kimbrough and Megan McArthur of NASA, Akihiko Hoshide of the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency, and Thomas Pesquet of the European Space Agency. They were strapped into the Crew Dragon Endeavour, the same spaceship that carried SpaceX's first astronauts into orbit last May. The launch of that first flight, called Demo-2, left Musk overcome with emotion .
Elon Musk celebrates after SpaceX's first astronaut launch, the Demo-2 mission, May 30, 2020. Steve Nesius/Reuters Ahead of that first flight, Musk said he felt responsible for the astronauts' lives. The spaceship and launch system had undergone thousands of tests, but if something went wrong, Musk said, it would be his fault. Advertisement

  • SpaceX Starship SN15 Launch Countdown - Launch on 5/3 10K Flight and Landing

SpaceX team will possibly make the first attempt of a high-altitude suborbital flight test of Starship SN15 from SpaceX Launch site in Boca Chica, Texas on May 3, 2021. The schedule is dynamic and likely to change, as is the case with all development testing. This is the fourth high-altitude 10K flight of a SpaceX Starship prototype.

The SpaceX Starship system is a fully-reusable, two-stage-to-orbit, super heavy-lift launch vehicle under development by SpaceX since 2012, as a self-funded private spaceflight project.
