  • Rocket Labs Neutron Rocket Plans to Compete With Falcon 9

Yesterday Rocket Lab made a series of announcements, firstly Rocket Lab will become a public traded corporation on the stock markets, secondly Peter Beck made true on his commitment to hat eating.
But most interestingly, they commited to building a larger, medium lift launch vehicle called neutron, and that's what I want to talk about.

  • Is Rocket Lab the new SpaceX? The Electron VS Falcon

What rocket has 9 engines on its first stage, is built by a privately owned aerospace company, uses the most advanced manufacturing techniques available, is one of the cheapest rides to space and has a body that’s almost entirely made out of carbon fiber?

If you said SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket you’d be wrong! (its body is aluminum)

Move over SpaceX, there’s a new kid on the block! Well, maybe not move over, but pull up a chair to the orbital class rocket table! That’s right, Rocket Lab has officially become the second privately owned rocket company to achieve orbit with their beautiful Electron rocket.

Today we’re going to give you a deep run down on some of the exciting features about the Electron, then we’re going to compare it to similar rockets including other upcoming small sat rockets, and past small sat rockets like SpaceX’s Falcon 1.

We’re even going to throw in a Falcon 9 for comparison and see which rocket takes the cake for the cheapest ride to space with a cost per kilogram comparison. Oh, and I mean it when I say cake, I got this for the winner.

  • Will Astra be Able to Compete with SpaceX and RocketLab?

Astra just had a mostly successful launch of their Rocket 3.0 and fully expect to reach orbit with their next launch. How can they expect to compete with already established players like SpaceX, ArianeSpace, and RocketLab? How will they partner with Government Agencies? All that and more in today's episode of Rockets in Ten Minutes or Less.

  • Rocket Lab Electron - Its Different | vs SpaceX | Air Space Docs

Rocket Lab is not the first name that comes to mind when you think space flight! What you think is NASA, SpaceX or ISRO! You might want to add Rocket Lab to the list too. The small space startup, partly based out of New Zealand, is targeting the bottom end of the satellite launch market with the Electron rocket.
The Electron is a very unique rocket thanks to the electric pump fed cycle engine called the Rutherford. But the engine is not the only thing that makes Rocket Lab unique. The company has a fresh approach to problem solving and does things slightly differently - like Electron recovery using a parafoil and helicopter!

  • Who Even Is Rocket Lab

We've all seen Rocket Lab launches of their electron rockets, but who exactly is Rocket Lab? Well, Rocket Lab was actually founded way back in 2006 by Peter Beck. After that, it took Rocket Lab a full 12 years to produce a large scale orbital class rocket. But, today, they launch orbital rockets on nearly a monthly basis and are trying to drive it up to a weekly basis. Aside from this, Rocket Lab launches are extremely cheap for the rocket industry coming in at just $7.5 million per launch. However, aside from decreasing rocket launch prices and increasing frequency, Rocket Lab doesn't have any big known ambitions such as reaching the moon or mars; they're simply satisfied with being a niche satellite launcher who is ideal for certain scenarios. This video explains the story of Rocket Lab and compares Rocket Lab's long term space vision with other large competitors such as SpaceX, Blue Origin, and Virgin Galactic.

I am doing a deep dive in the space industry right now and Rocket Lab stands out as one of the better risk vs reward plays in that space. In this video I explain what sets it apart from some of its competitors. In a lot of ways it is like a smaller version of SpaceX minus Starlink. One of the risk is competition from other companies but it really looks like SpaceX is focusing on the bigger picture and isn't interested in smaller projects, which RocketLab can specialize in.

  • How can Starship be so cheap? SpaceX Starship vs Rocket Lab Electron economics

Elon Musk said Starship will be even cheaper than a small satellite launcher. But why is Starship cheap?

The numbers Musk provided to back this up don't add up, so I decided to make a video about it.
Rocket Lab's Electron rocket is cheap to launch, really cheap. Compared to the Space X's Falcon 9 an Electron launch is many times cheaper, although the price per kg (or the cost per lb for that matter) is higher.
With this dive into the economics of SpaceX Starship and Rocket Lab Electron, we can understand how it works. Musk's numbers are out of this world, but with more realistic numbers it is still possible to sort this out.

  • SpaceX launches a rideshare mission, carrying a record amount of spacecraft for a single launch

Elon Musk's SpaceX launched another rocket into the record books on Sunday, with the first mission of its SmallSat Rideshare program called Transporter-1. The Falcon 9 rocket carried 143 spacecraft into orbit — a new global record for the most spacecraft launched at once. The company's SmallSat Rideshare launches give smaller satellites — as small as the size of a mailbox — an option to orbit for as little as $1 million for 200 kilograms. For access to live and exclusive video from CNBC subscribe to CNBC PRO:

SpaceX launched another rocket into the record books on Sunday with the first mission of its “rideshare” program carrying dozens of small satellites into space.

The Falcon 9 rocket, which took off from Florida’s Cape Canaveral, carried 143 spacecraft into orbit — a new global record for the most spacecraft launched at once, and surpassing the mark of 104 set by an Indian PSLV rocket in February 2017.

Called Transporter-1, the SpaceX mission was the first for the company’s SmallSat Rideshare program.

While SpaceX advertises a launch on a Falcon 9 dedicated to a single satellite for $62 million, the company’s SmallSat Rideshare launches give smaller satellites — as small as the size of a mailbox — an option to orbit for as little as $1 million for 200 kilograms.

Such rideshare missions have become increasingly common in the space industry, with international competitors like Arianespace’s Vega looking to claim a share of the growing marketplace of small satellites.

Rideshare missions offer a different option for low-cost satellites looking for a ride to orbit, with smaller rockets like Rocket Lab’s Electron offering a more tailored approach.

“SpaceX is providing a competitive rideshare option, in large part leveraging its Starlink launches,” Bryce Space and Technology senior analyst Phil Smith told CNBC.

The SpaceX service is not quite on demand, Smith said, but companies can pay a premium to launch according to their schedule, rather than the schedule of the primary customer.

“A fairly reliable ‘bus route’ is available,” Smith said of SpaceX, “whereas I suppose one might compare companies like Rocket Lab and Virgin Orbit as on-call taxies that get your satellite where you want it ASAP.”

Elon Musk’s company launched 133 satellites for a broad variety of government and private customers, as well as 10 of its own Starlink satellites.

SpaceX’s customers on board Transporter-1 include: Planet Labs, Exolaunch, D-Orbit, Kepler Communications, Spaceflight Inc, Nanoracks, NASA and Capella Space, as well as iQPS, Loft Orbital, Spire Global, ICEYE, HawkEye 360, Astrocast, and the University of South Florida Institute of Applied Engineering.

Notably, the 10 Starlink satellites aboard this mission will be the first in the constellation to deploy to a polar orbit, as the company continues to expand public access to its satellite internet network. Those 10 satellites were added after Momentus took its first Vigoride mission off the Transporter-1 launch earlier this month. Momentus cited additional time needed for regulatory approval as the cause of the change.

  • SpaceX rockets vs NASA rockets

Part 1 that focuses on the relationship, history and differences is here, you should watch this first so you have context before this video!

One of the questions I get asked most often is “Who do you like better NASA or SpaceX”

Although I don’t think it’s fair to compare a government agency to a private company in general, there is one thing we can truly compare apples to apples. Or shall I say rockets to rockets. And that’s rockets. Wait. (derp)

So in this video we’re going to look at some rockets past, present and future from SpaceX and NASA and check out their capabilities, costs and over all designs in an attempt to really help compare the two.

So NASAs rockets vs SpaceX’s rockets… considering what we learned in the last video, this one might get interesting. Let’s get started!

  • How does the Falcon Heavy compare in price?: The Economics of Rocket Reusability

Rocket economics is a growing topic among space enthusiasts. The recent falcon heavy launch price has shown that reusable rockets have potential to work practically and economically. Cheaper reusable rockets using methods such as the ULA's proposed smart reuse and a lower cost to land a rocket via the methods SpaceX is using bring up a much-needed rocket price comparison. What do reusable rockets mean? Are reusable rockets worth it?

NOTE: Since the making of this video, Elon Musk has announced that without recovering the center core, the Falcon Heavy costs about 95 million (as opposed to 90 million). With retrieving the center core, the cost should total to about 90 million per launch.

NOTE 2: The 99 million dollar price tag on the Vulcan is a low estimate. Due to a number of unknown factors, the rocket could cost more, but it should still be well under the price of the Delta IV.

Loads going on this week with SpaceX MK1 Starship being Deconstructed, Starlink upgrades announced, and Rocket Lab's huge steps toward reusability are looking very positive. SpaceX has been busy this week in Boca Chica working towards the next iteration of the Starship. The Mark 3 version is underway now and huge construction efforts going on at the facility itself and a load of components has arrived from the Florida facility. We’ve heard a lot more about the Falcon 9’s mysterious second stage performance tests from the CRS-19 mission where an unexpected drone ship landing took place instead of a typical Return to Landing Site mission. Some interesting new information on Starlink and new tests underway with a satellite in the next batch due to launch soon.

Attention SpaceX - ULA is desperate to come back | Blue Origin trying to convince AF for New Glenn
In august 2020, The U.S Air Force awarded United Launch Alliance and SpaceX to carry out their launch missions for the next five years. Both Blue Origin and North Grumman also participated for that contract, but lastly the two companies did not get the taste of winning. Blue Origin lost the job and as for the consequences, the Air Force decided to terminate a $500 million contract that was awarded to Blue Origin in 2018.

  • Does Blue Origin Actually Have A Chance Against SpaceX?

Jeff Bezos has been working on Blue Origin for over 20 years at this point having started way back in 2000. Despite this though, people often discount Blue Origin as SpaceX has relatively made significantly more progress despite having less funding and time. The ongoing feud between Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk hasn't helped Blue Origin's case very much either. Though the sentiment around Blue Origin hasn't been the strongest, Blue Origin has slowly but consistently made progress forward. First of all, Blue Origin has been working on launching Kuiper which is their own version of satellite internet. Aside from this, Blue Origin has also made significant progress with their lunar landers and rockets, New Shepard and New Glenn. This video explains the state of Blue Origin today and why they actually have a bright future within the space industry.

Another incredible week. Today we are talking SpaceX Starship SN3 Rapid Stacking and News, Starlink 5 and its missing Booster, Rocket Labs announcements and more. Amazing progress this week at Boca Chica with rapid development and stacking of the SN3 Starship. This beast is destined to take at least a short flight very soon so exciting times here. We had SpaceX’s Starlink 5 mission during the week which had a few interesting surprises. Another lost booster which is quite abnormal these days, so we’ll talk about that. Then Rocketlab made some intriguing news of their own with an acquisition and new certification announcements.

Rocket Lab’s “Don’t Stop Me Now” mission, launching from their Launch Complex 1 in New Zealand, will fly five payloads into orbit atop its Electron rocket. The payload is a combination of National Reconnaissance Office, NASA and Royal Australian Air Force smallsats.

This mission bears the name of a hit from the iconic rock band Queen. The colourful name commemorates former Rocket Lab board member, Stanford Scott Smith – who recently passed away. Smith, whose initials can be found on the mission patch, was an avid fan of the band.

SpaceX is about to run the final test of Starship SN9 before the first launch.
Hi guys, welcome back to Great SpaceX. We are jumping straight in with this week’s starship developments.
SpaceX is about to run the final test of Starship SN9 before the first launch.
SpaceX is preparing for testing on Starship SN9 Wednesday (January 20), the ninth prototype of a large, shiny rocket, illuminating the last engine before its first flight. The test is scheduled before 5 pm CST.
SpaceX is about to run the final test of Starship SN9 before the first launch
During this “static fire” test, the rocket goes nowhere. (Or, at least, it shouldn’t be.) But if everything went according to plan, SpaceX hasn’t dated it, but this test should pave the way for launches in the near future. NASA Spaceflight is live-streaming tests from Bocachica, Texas, the site where SpaceX builds and tests starships.
SpaceX is about to run the final test of Starship SN9 before the first launch
This was SN9’s second static fire test after the January 13 test trio was decisively completed, and the engine was not fired for the entire intended period. NASA Spaceflight reported.. Since then, the company has replaced the engine used in past tests.

  • Thunderf00t vs SpaceX: the truth behind the numbers

In a recent video, famed internet buster, thunderf00t, takes SpaceX, Elon Musk, and Gwen Shotwell to task about their supposedly much lower cost per kilogram to orbit than the historic Space Shuttle missions. Are thunderf00t's numbers correct? Well it turns out not quite. While the originally quoted article, stating that SpaceX is 20X cheaper than the Space Shuttle per kilogram to orbit is a very generous comparison, and thunderf00t is right to point that out, he plays loose with some facts, and makes comparisons that are just as ungenerous as the article's generous numbers.
Taking another look at the numbers available, and using some basic reasoning, we come up with different numbers that prove that while the Falcon 9 is not in fact 20X cheaper than the shuttle, using reasonable comparisons it is still 4-6X cheaper than the shuttle was, and more importantly it's up to 4X cheaper than current competitors like ULA, ESA and RocketLab.
Watch the video, run the numbers yourself, and discover the truth for yourself!

  • SpaceX Challengers - The Great Rocket Race | MUST WATCH | Part 1

Just a few months ago, Spacex's Falcon Heavy created History by not only sending a car to Outer Space but also landing the Boosters with Pin point accuracy. It may seem that the Future of Space Race will be dominated by SpaceX, or is it?

In this video we look into the Competitors of SpaceX, some of whom have great plans to take on SpaceX , by launching reusable rockets like Jeff Bezos's Blue origin or by simple efficient and low cost manufacturing process as implemented by India, whose low cost seems to have baffled even the experts.

We look at different countries from Arianne Group (EU) to China and India, and also different companies like Blue origin , ULA , Virgin Orbit , who may give SpaceX the run for the buck in this new era of Space Race.
