SpaceX INSANE NEW Plan To Visit Mars in 2024!
Space…the final frontier that is yet to be conquered by humanity. The race to make humankind a multi-planetary species is being led by SpaceX. Elon Musk was the first to envision that the next step to human progress was to conquer the stars and colonize another planet. Elon Musk chose the red planet ―Mars as the first target for human colonization. In 2017, when Elon first proposed this huge undertaking, his goal was to get the first boots on the ground on Mars by 2022. Since then, Elon has pulled back to a more realistic 2024 timeline to reach the Red Planet. Let bore deeper into Elon Musk’s Insane New Plan to reach Mars by 2024.
Starship: a Big Falcon Rocket
After first revealing his plans to land on the red planet and colonize it. The first challenge Elon musk faced was how to get people and cargo there. Mars is not really in our immediate neighborhood; it is on average about a whopping 140 million miles away from earth. This is a huge distance to cover for a human-bearing rocket. Just to give scale to this distance, the moon is about 240,000 miles away.
But the silver lining to this is that Mars and Earth's orbits do come very close to each other periodically, this event happens every two years. The event is called a close approach when Earth and Mars are nearest to each other. At this point, the distance between our home and the red planet is about 33.9 million miles. The next close approach will happen in the winter of 2022. Hence Elon Musk’s original timeline for a 2022 target for the first mission to Mars. The windows after that will happen in 2024,2026, 2026, and so on.
With these goals and timelines in mind, SpaceX started the development of the Big Falcon Rocket. This would be a 180-foot-tall spaceship, including three protruding fins, that sits atop a 230-foot-tall rocket booster. The plan was to make the rocket fully reusable and cut down the cost of each launch significantly.
In November of 2018, the project was renamed Big Falcon Heavy to Starship. This is a two-stage rocket and is composed of a booster stage named Super Heavy and a second stage, which is the Starship itself.
Starship is currently being powered by its Raptor engines, which can produce a thrust of 2 Mega Newtons. Starship is designed with the ability to re‑enter Earth's atmosphere and land on a designated landing pad. The spacecraft is also designed to be able to perform automatic rendezvous and docking operations and on‑orbit propellant transfer between Starships.
SpaceX’s facility at Boca Chica in Texas is developing the current generation of Starship Model SN15. Which has been named the Starbase. Since it is planned to host the facility to mass manufacture SpaceXs starships. The plan is to build 1000 starships over 10 years once the facility starts its mass manufacturing process, that is around 100 Starships every year!
One small step for a human, one giant leap for humankind
Elon Musk in January revealed he had plans to get 1 million people on Mars by 2050. To achieve this ambitious goal, he has plans to launch at average 3 starships a day. But before we talk about colonization, let us look at the first manned mission to Mars.
We have already successfully landed unmanned missions to Mars. In fact, our first successful landing was in 1971 when the Soviet Unions Mars 3 mission landed on the red planet. Since then we have had multiple mars, rovers roaming the red planet collecting scientific data. But transporting a human crew to and back from Mars is a whole new challenge.
The first obstacle is the time since the distance to the red planet is very large. This means very long mission times for the human crew to be shut inside a cabin being hurled through space. The shorter Mars mission plans have round-trip flight times of 400 to 450 days. These can even be cut shorter with 245 days round trip by using on-orbit staging methods. These are still very long periods to sustain living conditions for the astronauts.
SpaceX’s crewed Mars flight looks something like this.
Phase 1, Starship launches with Super Heavy booster. Booster separates after delivering Starship to orbit and returns to Earth for future reuse.
Phase II, Starship enters Earth’s orbit while a refilling tanker launches to mate with Starship in orbit. Starship then uses tanker vehicles (essentially the Starship spacecraft minus the windows) to refill the Starship spacecraft in low-Earth orbit prior to departing for Mars. Refilling on-orbit enables the transport of up to 100 tons all the way to Mars. Tanker after refueling returns to earth, for future reuse.
NASAs Deep Space Gateway, the Spaceport to Mars!
I’m going to give a basic overview of NASA’s Deep Space Gateway and how it fits in NASA’s overall plan to go to Mars.
If you don’t know, President Trump reinstated the National Space Council who had their first meeting on October 5th of this year.
Vice President Mike Pence, the Chair of the National Space Council announced that the United States will turn their attention to the Moon as their first target for manned space missions.
And the Deep Space Gateway, DSG for short, is the main mission behind this new direction for NASA.
I think the DSG is a fantastic idea and I can’t wait until we get started on the first phase of the mission.
What is the DSG and what makes it great?
Let’s find out!
Welcome to NeoScribe, researching the future for you, so you don’t have to.
If you’re new to my channel I cover topics such as Space Exploration, Robotics and ALL things future, so if you want to know how cool life will be in the future, then hit the subscribe button and notification bell so you don’t miss out!
Alright so the DSG will allow humanity to have a permanent presence BEYOND LEO.
For the past 44 years, astronauts have not gone beyond 250 miles above the Earth’s surface on the International Space Station, within the safety of Earth’s Magnetosphere.
The Earth’s Magnetosphere extends 40,000 Miles facing the sun and almost 4 Million miles away from the sun, and provides protection against HAZARDOUS solar radiation that is deadly if not properly protected.
But that will all change with the DSG which will be around 240,000 miles from Earth.
And having a permanent presence on the border of deep space is a big deal because we’ve been stuck in LEO for over 40 years!
The DSG will provide a proving ground to develop and test technologies that will allow astronauts to travel and survive in deep space.
The DSG will have 3 main purposes:
The 1st purpose is that it will serve as a Space Port for the Deep Space Transport. The Deep Space Transport is the vehicle that will take astronauts to Mars, it will be reusable, and dock on or near the DSG between missions to Mars and beyond, where it will be resupplied and have maintenance done; all in space, at the DSG, I think that is so awesome!
The Deep Space Transport uses a combination of chemical and Ion Propulsion technology currently in development.

SpaceX shows off its 'Gateway to Mars' for Starship launches
paceX is hoping to launch its first orbital Starship test flight in the next few months from its Starbase facility in Texas and a new video captures the company's work so far on the massive rocket.
The 90-second montage, which SpaceX showed off on Twitter, offers views of the company's massive Starship spacecraft being wheeled to the launch pad, taking off, performing complex flips and then landing safely on the ground. You also catch a glimpse of Earth from up high.
Gateway to Mars, SpaceX wrote in its Twitter post sharing the video on Saturday (Oct. 23). A day earlier, SpaceX CEO and founder Elon Musk shared a stunning image of its Starship and Super Heavy booster with the nearly full moon behind them at its Starbase site near Boca Chica in southern Texas. Starbase under construction, Musk wrote.
The spectacular shots start around the 30-second mark, when you can see steam billowing from Starship as it wobbles in mid-air, maneuvers carefully and gently touches down on the ground. You can spot more Starship aerial flips shortly before the one-minute mark.

Starbase in Texas | Elon Musks Future Portal To Mars
Starbase in Texas | Elon Musk's Future Portal To Mars
Elon Musk is building Starbase, a city with a spaceport that will be the gateway to the Moon, Mars and beyond.
If successful, the ambitious spaceport could become the site of several annual launches to the Moon and Mars.
Elon Musk did not hide his intention to found a settlement on Mars, but his latest adventure is to establish a city on Earth.
Situated around the SpaceX South Texas launch site in Boca Chica, Musk's idea is to call the city Starbase, Texas.
It would house all those who work at the launch site, those who plan to fly the rocket, and it would be a tourist destination for those who wish to witness the incredible force of a launch.
In the end, Musk hopes, it will be the starting point for people traveling to Mars, with each powerful vehicle on the 'starship' capable of transporting around 100 people at once to the Red Planet.
As they prepare for the flight, they will demand the kind of living space and infrastructure that only a city or town can provide.
Therefore, transforming the village of Boca Chica into the city of Starship, Texas, could be essential for Musk to realize his vision of space exploration.
Unlike the small crew pods that space agencies traditionally use, the Starship spacecraft is a state-of-the-art design.
With 50 meters in height and 9 meters in diameter, a large part of its internal space will be accommodations, or converted to transport cargo.
The Super Heavy rocket that will take you into space is 70 meters high and will initially be powered by 29 Raptor engines, also manufactured by SpaceX in Texas.
Stacked one on top of the other, Starship and Super Heavy reach nearly 120 meters tall - nearly ten meters taller than the Saturn V rockets NASA used to transport astronauts to the Moon in the late 1960s/early 1970s.
It will be able to generate nearly twice the thrust of NASA's moon rocket. Unlike the Saturn V, which was a single-use spacecraft, everything about Starship and Super Heavy is reusable. Both parties land vertically back on the launch pad at the end of the mission.
The pace of development of the launch site was extraordinarily fast. Major construction works started in earnest in 2016, and the site was ready for test launches in 2019.
This accelerated progress has become something of a trademark for SpaceX, with Musk himself appearing to be a motivated individual.
“I think he works really, really hard on his team,” says Barker, National Space Center, Leicester, “He has a very strong work ethic and I think he demands that from his team as well.”
The first major test flight at Boca Chica took place in December 2020, when a spacecraft was launched into the air to test the vertical landing system.
Although he was almost successful, he exploded when he came in contact with the landing pad.
Four more test flights were needed before, on May 5, 2021, a starship successfully landed.
If previous tests proved anything, it was how robust the launch site was to explosive accidents.
SpaceX began referring to Boca Chica's site as Starbase in March and is now gearing up to launch its first orbital test flight of the combination starship and superheavy.
Regardless of whether Musk's plans to incorporate a city near the launch site are allowed to proceed, Starbase is undoubtedly set to become one of the most important launch sites on Earth.
This is because it is from here that the spacecraft that will take the astronauts back to the moon will be launched.
NASA selected Starship to be the lunar module in its Artemis program.
Although the astronauts are launched from Cape Canaveral, Florida, the Orion crew capsule they will be in will not be equipped to land on the lunar surface.
Instead, an unlocked spacecraft will be launched ahead of Boca Chico and placed in a parking orbit around the moon.
He will await the arrival of the Orion capsule, dock with it and allow the astronauts to transfer. They will then pilot the spacecraft to the Moon's surface and back again when the mission is complete.
It will be something of a dress rehearsal for Musk's ultimate goal of Martian exploration. And even though it still sounds like science fiction, Barker thinks we shouldn't underestimate Musk's ambition to reach the Red Planet.
“We saw that Elon can do things. He has the impetus to do this. I think there's a good chance he will, says Barker, before adding, Or it will ruin him. And that will be the end of it.”

SpaceX Starbase - Our Gateway To Mars - See You All There - Short Version
SpaceX Starbase - Our Gateway To Mars - See You All There.
Starbase: Why SpaceX Is Starting Its Own City | SpaceX.
In late 2018, a local resident of Boca Chica shared an image of a new structure at the SpaceX site. Most believed that it was nothing more than a new water tower.
But after a round of speculation, SpaceX revealed that the structure was indeed the beginning of the starship. At the time, SpaceX’s activity in Boca Chica was extremely quiet. Their entire facility consisted of a small tent at the construction site and a pile of dirt at the launch site.
There were only a few activists and no one really knew how important Boca Chica would be for the development of Starship. Eventually, most people expected the starship to be manufactured in California, where most SpaceX engineers lived and worked.
So why did SpaceX choose Boca Chica as the basis for its starship project? Despite the lack of infrastructure or skilled workforce, Boca Chica offered cheap land in an area that was mostly uninhabited.
This was extremely important for SpaceX because testing rockets on this scale would be quite risky for any nearby occupants. But Boca Chica was not completely uninhabitable. Just next to the construction site was the main village, which had 35 houses.
The place was a dream place for retirees and vacationers, but SpaceX was about to change it. To make the area completely uninhabitable, SpaceX began the process of purchasing the entire city.
And sent letters to the residents, offering to buy their homes at three times the market price. Over the next few years, SpaceX bought more and more land and hired hundreds of workers to start a 24/7 work cycle.
To date, the SpaceX facility at Boca Chica continues to grow, with new plans to expand the launch site and add additional launch mounts and landing pads. But the goal here is not just to build a huge starship factory. SpaceX wants to build an entire city, and call it ‘Starbase’.
Although Boca Chica is an excellent place to launch and land rockets, it is not exactly renowned for its skilled aerospace engineers. Right now, the Boca Chica site includes some local employees and SpaceX employees who fly from California.
Many of these employees are on 6 monthly contracts and shift in and out of SpaceX’s core facilities in Hawthorne and McGregor, Texas. For all these employees, SpaceX has to spend huge amounts of money on travel and accommodation costs.
For his headquarters in California, he has the most talented minds in the world at his doorstep. In the last two decades, this has allowed SpaceX to form the most incredible team of engineers and technicians.
For many young engineers, working at SpaceX is a dream job. But to attract talented people to Boca Chica, SpaceX needs to make the region more attractive.
For Starbase to be a good place to live, the city must have all the amenities that you would normally find in a city. It needs to be a warm and homely place so that workers’ families are also happy to go there.
Last year, SpaceX began construction of a restaurant and a tiki bar right next to the building site, where employees can relax after a day’s work. The restaurant has an outdoor seating area with a large roof made of old starship flaps, a constant reminder of what they are working on.
Many of these projects come under the guidance of a new job, which opened last year as a resort development manager. This job will likely involve designing and planning facilities for their future spaceport.
It will be a glamorous resort for the high-paying customers they expect for their first flights into space. But in fact, space tourism is only a small part of Starbase. Until they can attract workers, nothing like this will happen.
One of the more unique features of Starbase will be the futuristic bar placed at the top of the high bay. The 80-meter tall building has a large gantry crane which is used to stack a large portion of the starship. The bar will be placed just above this area, with glass windows and a 360-degree view from above the starbase.
Parts of the floor will also be made of glass so that employees and visitors can look down and inspect the work being done on the starship. In the future, SpaceX plans to open this bar to the public. But for now, these areas are open only to SpaceX employees.
But where do most of these employees actually live? There is a small campsite just 200 meters from High Bay, with more than 30 Airstream trailers. These retro-style trailers have kitchens and sleeping spaces for up to 8 people. While this seems like an efficient use of space, each trailer can cost between $50 and $100,000.
For that amount, you can get the entire property in Boca Chica Village. But SpaceX has done the same. After purchasing most of the remaining villagers, SpaceX employees moved into these homes and began renovating them until they felt like home.

Elon Musk FINALLY Reveals New Starship That Will Reach Mars
Elon Musk FINALLY Reveals New Starship That Will Reach Mars.
Deep inside the state of Texas, Elon Musk’s SpaceX is hard at work creating the next generation of space travel. Called Starship, their next-generation spaceship is unlike any other that has come before it. It will be 30 feet in diameter, 180 feet tall and powered by the trademarked Super Heavy launch vehicle, which will propel Starship into space with the assistance of 31 Raptor engines. With the Starship and the Super Heavy combined, the craft will be the tallest, heaviest and most powerful space rocket that has ever gone into space.
But the creation of Starship is more than just a record-breaker. Perhaps the most amazing thing about it will be the fact that it’s totally reusable unlike any other spaceships created in the past. The reusability of this ship is really what sets it apart and will make it much more financially enticing for SpaceX and any other space agencies.
But of course, Elon Musk isn’t satisfied with Starship. Even though his company is producing something revolutionary and ahead-of-its-time, Musk is already looking ahead to the next iteration of Starship. In fact, he has recently hinted at the concept of an even bigger Starship model, as well as special variants of the ship that would be capable of point-to-point travel on Earth, cargo shipments, and trips to the moon and Mars.
We haven’t even been formally introduced to the first version of Starship, so what exactly do these future updates have in store for us? What does Musk and his team have in mind when they think about what comes next for their iconic Starship vehicles?
