  • TIMELAPSE OF THE FUTURE: A Journey to the End of Time

    29:21

Support my work on Patreon: | Get the soundtrack: | How's it all gonna end? This experience takes us on a journey to the end of time, trillions of years into the future, to discover what the fate of our planet and our universe may ultimately be.

We start in 2019 and travel exponentially through time, witnessing the future of Earth, the death of the sun, the end of all stars, proton decay, zombie galaxies, possible future civilizations, exploding black holes, the effects of dark energy, alternate universes, the final fate of the cosmos - to name a few.

This is a picture of the future as painted by modern science - a picture that will surely evolve over time as we dig for more clues to how our story will unfold. Much of the science is very recent - and new puzzle pieces are still waiting to be found.

To me, this overhead view of time gives a profound perspective - that we are living inside the hot flash of the Big Bang, the perfect moment to soak in the sights and sounds of a universe in its glory days, before it all fades away. Although the end will eventually come, we have a practical infinity of time to play with if we play our cards right. The future may look bleak, but we have enormous potential as a species.

Featuring the voices of David Attenborough, Craig Childs, Brian Cox, Neil deGrasse Tyson, Michelle Thaller, Lawrence Krauss, Michio Kaku, Mike Rowe, Phil Plait, Janna Levin, Stephen Hawking, Sean Carroll, Alex Filippenko, and Martin Rees.

  • TIMELAPSE OF FUTURE TECHNOLOGY: 2022 - 4000+

    17:03

The journey to see future technology starts in 2022, when Elon Musk and SpaceX send the first Starship to Mars - beginning the preparations for the arrival of the first human explorers.

We see the evolution of space exploration, from NASA's Artemis mission, humans landing on Mars, and the interplanetary internet system going online. To the launch of the Starshot Alpha Centauri program, and quantum computers designing plants that can survive on Mars.

On Earth, tech evolves with quantum computers and Neaulink chips. People begin living with bio-printed organs. Humans record every part of lives from birth. And inner speech recording becomes possible.

And what about predictions further out into the future, when humans become level 2 and level 3 civilizations. When NASA's warp drive goes live, and Mars declares independence from Earth. Will there be Dyson structures built around stars to capture their energy. Will they help power computers that can take human consciousness and download it into a quantum computer core. Allowing humanity to travel further out into space.

Quotes about the future from: Arthur C. Clarke, Stephen Hawking, Albert Einstein, and Elon Musk

It can be difficult to fathom how long 13.8 billion years is. The more you watch this video, the more it sinks in just how stunningly old the universe is, and how magnificently tiny we humans are in the grand scheme. I hope seeing this experiment in humility makes you ponder the vast, unwitnessed ages that have passed before we came along, and the brevity of our existence in comparison.

    6:50

The History of the Universe, Earth, and Life shows the most important events and the main stages of the development of the planet Earth from the moment of its formation to the present day.

We start out with the beginning of everything - the Big Bang, which gave rise to the Universe 13.8 billion years ago.

Then comes the Story of Earth which summarizes almost 4.54 billion years of our history and history of our universe.

Fiery wasteland, a hellish, molten planet hostile to life, yet somehow, this is where we got our start. Amazing don't you think? But how? How did the universe, galaxies, stars, our planet, how did we ourselves come to be? How did the first sparks of life take hold here? These questions are as ancient as human curiosity itself.

  • A Journey to the End of the Universe

    8:54

What will happen to us in the next few hundred years? Or a thousand? How will the Universe end? Nobody knows for sure, but we can gather all the existing theories together and find it out. Just a century from now humans will be the first living species outside Earth that we know of. In 1,000 years, humanity will accept technology not only in their lives but inside their bodies too. Ever heard about cyborgs? That’s exactly what every other human being will become in the future.

100,000 years in the future — and many of the constellations we know will become unrecognizable because of the natural movement of stars. At nearly the same time, Earth will celebrate the distant anniversary by a supervolcanic eruption, with hot magma and volcanic ash covering thousands upon thousands of square miles of land...

    SUMMARY:
    - In 100 years, technology will leap forwards, and we’ll all become part of a web larger than the Internet. We’ll also finally start colonizing nearby planets, most likely Mars.
    - And here goes… 10,000 years from today. Antares, the red supergiant star that is fifteenth brightest in our night sky, will explode in a supernova.
    - 100,000 years in the future — and many of the constellations we know will become unrecognizable because of the natural movement of stars.
    - In 500,000 years, our planet will be struck with a huge boulder from the sky: an asteroid of about a half mile in diameter. If humans don’t find a way to avoid the impact, it will cause mass destructions on Earth.
    - In 1 million years, two out of four moons of Uranus will collide with each other, causing chaos on the planet.
    - Just 400,000 years later, Phobos, one of Mars’s two satellites, will break apart because of increasing gravity, and the red planet will have its own set of rings, just like Saturn.
    - 110 million years from now is when the Sun will become 1% brighter. It will change the climate on every planet in the Solar system, ever so slightly making it hotter and hotter still.
    - 4 billion years from now the Milky Way galaxy will collide with the Andromeda galaxy.
    - In 7.9 billion years, the Sun will become super-inflated and turn into a red giant, swallowing the closest planets — including the scalding hot piece of rock that was once Earth.
    - In 100 billion years, the Universe will stretch so far and so fast that galaxies will become invisible from each other’s perspective.
    - In 1 trillion years, new stars will stop appearing in space.
    - In 100 trillion years, the Degenerate Era will begin. With no fuel to feed the new stars, they will simply stop forming at all, even if some tried at first.
    - In 120 trillion years, only white and brown dwarf stars will remain where normal stars have once been.
    - In 1 quadrillion years, all planets will be thrown out of their orbits and sent drifting in the cold, dark outer space.
    - 1 quintillion years, and things that once were stars will also become ejected from their galaxies, wandering the empty Universe for the rest of their time.
    - Now, for quintillions of quintillions of years, there will be nothing; this period is called the Dark Era, and time won’t matter at this point.
    - The false vacuum has just inflated and heated up to extreme temperatures, exploding in the empty space and filling it with new energy.
    - Giving life to the new universe — and possibly not even a single one. You know this event as the Big Bang. That’s how our Universe was born, and how it will probably be reborn after billions upon billions of years.

  • 240 million years ago to 250 million years in the future

    12:25

This animation shows the plate tectonic evolution of the Earth from the time of Pangea, 240 million years ago, to the formation of Pangea Proxima, 250 million years in the future.

The animation starts with the modern world then winds it way back to 240 million years ago (Triassic). The animation then reverses direction, allowing us to see how Pangea rifted apart to form the modern continents and ocean basins. When the animation arrives back at the present-day, it continues for another 250 million years until the formation of the next Pangea, Pangea Proxima.

This question often come up. Why dont you show East Africa rifting away from the rest of Africa?.

    Here's why:

    - Often, oceans open around a three-armed rift system called a “triple junction”. Only two arms of a triple junction open to form ocean basins. . In the case of East Africa, the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden are the two successful rifts. The East African rift sytem, starting at the Afar Triangle, in Ethiopiais an aulacogen or “failed arm” of a triple junction The East African rift system is a failed rift, much like the Benue Trough in the South Atlantic or the Labrador Sea in the North Atlantic.
    - Let’s step back and ask the question, “What caused the rifting of the Red Sea , Gulf of Aden and East Africa in the first place? Though the Afar hotspot certainly helped to weaken the lithosphere, The driving force that caused the rifting was the subduction (beneath Eurasia , i.e., Iran) of oceanic crust attached to the northern margin of Arabia. (There was ocean an ocean between Arabian and Iran.) This subducting slab “pulled” Arabia northward tearing it away from Africa. This subduction zone has been completely destroyed by the collision of Arabia and Eurasia (Zagros Mountains). Consequently, there is no longer any “plate tectonic forces” acting on the African rifts and they will not continue to open.
    - Also, if we look at the plate tectonic neighborhood of East Africa, we see that the dominant motion of plates in the western Indian Ocean is N-S, rather than E-W . In fact, a new subduction zone is just beginning in the central Indian Ocean (a zone of diffuse earthquakes ~ 5-10 S) that will continue to pull Australia and Antarctica northward towards Asia. In other words, there is no room for East Africa to expand towards the east. Rather the east coast of Madagascar will become a strike-slip margin accommodating the continued, northward movement of the Australian-Antarctic plate.
I hope this explanation is helpful. Of course all of this is scientific speculation, we will have to wait and see what happens, but this is my projection based on my understanding of the forces that drive plate motions and the history of past plate motions. Remember: “The past reveals patterns; Patterns inform process; Process permits prediction.”

Notice how the areas of green (land), brown (mountains), dark blue (deep sea), and light blue (shallow seas on continents), changes throughout time. These changes are the result of mountain-building, erosion, and the rise and fall of sea level throughout time. The white patches near the pole are the expanding and contracting polar icecaps.

  • un viaje al fin del tiempo

    29:19

  • What Humans Will Look Like In 1,000 Years

    2:52

There will eventually be a day where prosthetics are no longer just for the disabled. However, it’s not just our outside appearance that will change – our genes will also evolve on microscopic levels to aid our survival.

For example, an Oxford-led study discovered a group of HIV-infected children in South Africa living healthy lives. It turns out, they have a built-in defense against HIV that prevents the virus from advancing to AIDS.

And with gene-editing tools like CRISPR, we may eventually control our genes and DNA to the point where we make ourselves immune to disease and even reverse the effects of aging.

Another way to jump-start the human evolution on a different path is to move some of us to Mars. Mars receives 66% less sunlight than Earth. Which could mean humans on Mars will evolve larger pupils that can absorb more light in order to see. And since Mars’ gravitational pull is only 38% of Earth’s, people born on Mars might actually be taller than anyone on Earth. In space, the fluid that separates our vertebrae expands, which led American aerospace engineer, Robert Zubrin to suggest that Mars’ low gravity could allow the human spine to elongate enough to add a few extra inches to our height.

However, not even a move to Mars could spark the biggest change in human evolution that we may have coming in the next 1,000 years: immortality. The path to immortality will likely require humans to download their consciousness into a machine. Right now, scientists in Italy and China are performing head transplants on animals to determine if you can transfer consciousness from one body to another. They claim their next big step is to transplant human heads.

Whatever happens in the next 1,000 years — whether we merge with machines or become them — one thing is certain: The human race is always changing — and the faster we change and branch out from Earth, the better chance we have of outrunning extinction.

While the future can never be predicted with absolute certainty, current understanding in various scientific fields allow us to predict some far-future events.

Telescopes allow us to study our surroundings, see the universe and understand the laws of physics. Telescopes are also time machines. Through them, we can look back through the history of our universe and see some of the very first celestial objects that were birthed from the Big Bang.

But telescopes allow us to see far more than our past. With them, we can see our future. We can determine the rate at which the universe is expanding, see stars being born and die, detect changes in the atmosphere of distant exoplanets, and much more.

It has been said that, due to the expansion of the universe, the sky we’re observing today will look radically different from the one that’ll exist in a few billion years.

Here’s what the future would look like in the next trillion years.

    In 2061,
    Halley's Comet will return again.

    In 2178,
Pluto will complete its first orbit since discovery.

    In 2300,
    After traveling billions of kilometers...
Voyager 1 will finally reach the Oort Cloud.

    In 50,000 years,
The star VY Canis Majoris will explode in a supernova.
The explosion will outshine the rest of the Milky Way.

    In 100,000 years,
Many of today's constellations will be unrecognizable.

    In 1 million years,
Two of Uranus' moons will collide.
The planet can't catch a break.

    In 50 million years,
The Martian moon Phobos will slowly break up.
So Mars will get its own ring.

    In 100 million years,
    As Mars gains a ring...
    Saturn will slowly lose them.
Oddly, Saturn will spend most of its life without rings.

    In 180 million years,
The Moon continues gradually slowing down the Earth.
Days become 25 hours long. Hopefully work hours don't also increase.

    In 600 million years,
The last total solar eclipse happens.
Since the moon is further away, total solar eclipses will no longer be possible.
    Don't forget your glasses!
This is one you don't want to miss.

    In 800 million years,
As the Sun becomes brighter, photosynthesis is no longer possible on Earth.
Without plant life, all animals go extinct.
And single cell organisms dominate the Earth once again.

    In 1.1 billion years,
The Sun will be 10% brighter.
The average temperature on Earth will reach 47 °C, or 116 °F.
And so the oceans will evaporate.
But on the bright side, Mars will enter the habitable zone and could provide a new home.

    In 5 billion years,
The Andromeda Galaxy will collide with the Milky Way.
And our new home galaxy will be called Milkdromeda.
