The Discovery of the Universe Documentary - Planets of our Solar System

  • The Discovery of the Universe Documentary - Planets of our Solar System

    00

The galaxies outside of our own are moving away from us, and the ones that are farthest away are moving the fastest. This means that no matter what galaxy you happen to be in, all the other galaxies are moving away from you.

However, the galaxies are not moving through space, they are moving in space, because space is also moving. In other words, the universe has no center; everything is moving away from everything else. If you imagine a grid of space with a galaxy every million light years or so, after enough time passes this grid will stretch out so that the galaxies are spread to every two million light years, and so on, possibly into infinity.

  • The Search for Life in the Universe Documentary - Voyage To The Planets And Beyond The Solar System

    00

How do we find other planets?
For life in the universe to be abundant, planets must be abundant. But planets are hard to detect because they are small, and much fainter than the stars they orbit.

    How does life begin?
Scientists do not yet know how the first living things arose on Earth. The geological record shows that life appeared on Earth almost as soon as the young planet was cool and stable enough for living things to survive. This suggests that life may exist wherever conditions allow it.

The most widely accepted theory of planetary formation, known as the nebular hypothesis, maintains that 4.6 billion years ago, the Solar System formed from the gravitational collapse of a giant molecular cloud which was light years across. Several stars, including the Sun, formed within the collapsing cloud.

Scientists already know about a vast number of exoplanets, or worlds beyond our solar system: telescopes have helped us catalogue thousands already, with many more to come. But it is far more difficult to know what conditions might be like on those planets, since they are so different.

In order to narrow that down, the researchers behind the new study combined a variety of data to understand how habitable planets around M dwarf stars – which make up 70 per cent of those in our galaxy – might be. Planets around M dwarf stars are thought to be the most likely place for us to find alien life, because they are so common and therefore easier to find.

The study helped them redefine our understanding of whether a planet could be habitable, adding new questions to be asked of planets by taking into account the radiation coming from a star and how the planets rotate.

Universe: Beyond the Millennium is a television series observing astronomical phenomena, research, and theories on the universe and its origins.

    Narrated by John Hurt.

The documentary premiered in 1999 and presents an overview of the universe as humans understood it at that time, and how we think it will evolve in the next millennium. Using 3D computer generated graphics, the series features animated sequences that offer insight into the Big Bang theory and the anatomy of the sun.

Planets, a new theory suggests that planets were formed from ice dwarfs or large solid lumps of frozen water. These ice dwarfs were causing cosmic collisions all throughout our solar system. Discover how this latest theory as well as cosmic collisions made earth hospitable and other planets in our solar system so desolate.

We have blasted men and machines to our neighbouring worlds. Sent probes to the outer solar system. Discovered volcanoes erupting on the surface of distant moons, visited worlds more diverse than we had ever imagined. We have landed on Mars, walked on the moon. • Living Universe | Journey To Another Stars - Documentary 4K

    3:20:31

    The Earth is Not Alone:
LIVING UNIVERSE is an interstellar adventure that seeks to answer the most profound question of all: are we alone? Based on the latest scientific knowledge, we will take a journey to a planet beyond our solar system in search of life.

We ask the world's leading space scientists what we might find if we travel to a neighboring star system. Recent breakthroughs have proven that every star we see in the sky is orbited by at least one planet, many similar to our own Earth. How do we get to these exoplanets? Once there, what will we find? And what will it mean for humanity when we discover we are not alone?

Our speculative journey through space is set a hundred years in the future - when we have the technology to journey well beyond our solar system. On this first expedition, our star ship Aurora will be piloted not by astronauts, but by the artificial intelligence (A.I.) we call Artemis. We imagine how Artemis travels through space, on its 25-year journey, at one fifth of the speed of light. Its objective is Minerva B, a planet much like our own, with an atmosphere, temperature and liquid water that appears a likely candidate to contain life.

With spectacular special effects we will reach and explore a new planet as we seek to answer the most profound question of all: are we alone in the universe? Our guides on this journey are narrator Dr Karl Kruszelnicki and as the voice of our AI, Artemis, real-life astrophysicist, Professor Tamara Davis.

Inspired and informed by our rapidly developing knowledge of far-off worlds, our best scientists - including NASA engineers, astrophysicists and astronomers - we will discover that this amazing journey is not only possible, it is inevitable. To venture into distant space is our destiny.

LIVING UNIVERSE captures a pivotal moment in the human story. A film full of insight and inspiration certain to thrill anyone who dreams of distant worlds, or have ever wondered why are we here?

Have you ever wondered that someone like you, sitting less than a mile away, in some other universe, exists? The possibility in itself seems frightening as well as astonishing.

From breaking news and intriguing historical documentaries to conspiracy theories, classified NASA files and UFO's. We provide you with material that the government doesn't want you to see. The Insomnia team comes up with a promise. To keep up with the same, the team now brings to us a documentary that aims to change your perspective Of another existence, of another possibility, as today, the scientists now believe there may really be the presence of a parallel universe - and in fact, also believe that there may be an infinite number of parallel universes, and where we live today just happens to be only one of them and many of these other parallel universes come with different laws of physics as well.

These other universes that we are talking about not only contain space, time and strange forms of exotic matter but to surprise you, Some of them may even contain you, only maybe in a slightly different form. The thought itself is quite intriguing and scary on the same hand. The basis of this theory is as we know it the idea that parallel universes are constantly spinning off from reality that we humans know of. Though generally ignored at the time, that theory has gone on to become not just a popular topic of study among respected physicists, but the inspiration for such popular films, television shows, and books as Star Trek and The Golden Compass. according to the sources.

The video soon progresses into the Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe (WMAP), that is now changing everything, as some say that the remarkable images reveal the true shape of the universe through baby pictures of the same from the time when it was 4 hundred thousand years old, looking so back in time, when there wasn't even the formation of galaxies yet. The WMAP is catching the very first signs of creation as it is officially tagged with measuring radiation that is left over from Big Bang. And now scientists have devised an experiment to find the overall true shape of the universe. The WMAP hence shows that the universe is flat. From here arises the possibility of more mind boggling parallel universe that are of the level-2 type and is made up of giant cosmic soap bubbles that float in hyperspace. Each of these bubbles within it has a whole universe. Now, the question that arises is that - Do we all live in a giant cosmic bubble?

Galaxy Formation. ... One says that galaxies were born when vast clouds of gas and dust collapsed under their own gravitational pull, allowing stars to form. Support my work on Patreon: | Get the soundtrack: | How's it all gonna end? This experience takes us on a journey to the end of time, trillions of years into the future, to discover what the fate of our planet and our universe may ultimately be.

We start in 2019 and travel exponentially through time, witnessing the future of Earth, the death of the sun, the end of all stars, proton decay, zombie galaxies, possible future civilizations, exploding black holes, the effects of dark energy, alternate universes, the final fate of the cosmos - to name a few.

This is a picture of the future as painted by modern science - a picture that will surely evolve over time as we dig for more clues to how our story will unfold. Much of the science is very recent - and new puzzle pieces are still waiting to be found.

To me, this overhead view of time gives a profound perspective - that we are living inside the hot flash of the Big Bang, the perfect moment to soak in the sights and sounds of a universe in its glory days, before it all fades away. Although the end will eventually come, we have a practical infinity of time to play with if we play our cards right. The future may look bleak, but we have enormous potential as a species.

World's Most Dangerous Roads: Deadliest Journeys in Vietnam in 2015

    Deadliest Roads - Congo:

We are in the Quan Hoa mountains in the Northwest of Vietnam. It is one of the poorest and most isolated regions in the country. Here, most of the inhabitants live on less than a dollar a day. However, this province possesses an inexhaustible treasure: bamboo. Or as the Vietnamese refer to it “green gold”. Some of this bamboo is transported on rafts… Makeshift crafts, assembled in just a few hours, are sent down the twists and turns of the tumultuous river Luong.

This region is also the only region in the country where the roads are not asphalted. During the rainy season, which lasts around three months, parts of the region’s commerce is paralysed. Even 4x4s and trucks can’t handle it… The only engine capable of manoeuvring the roads is Van Ly’s “Tuk Tuk”.

    Lyrics:
We all come from a place
    The entire human race
    Depends upon our planet
    Racing through outer space
    And there are eight planets
    That orbit around the sun
    Come on, we’ll introduce you
And name them one by one:

    Chorus
    Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars
    Jupiter, Saturn
    Uranus, Neptune

    Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars
    Jupiter, Saturn
    Uranus, Neptune

    Mercury:
I’m Mercury, the smallest planet, you see
You humans could never live on me
My atmosphere’s too thin, and I orbit too fast
    My days are long

    Star:
About 60 earth days as a matter of fact

    Venus:
I am Venus, my atmosphere’s super hot
I spin backwards in a way the earth does not
I’m closest to the earth in distance and size
I have no moons, I hope you can sympathize

    Earth:
I’m earth, the planet that you’re on, ya know
I’m terrestrial, but covered in H20
I collide with things that I can’t avoid
But my atmosphere protects me from meteoroids

    Mars:
I’m Mars and you can jump higher on me,
Because I have a third of earth’s gravity
I hear you plan to visit soon
I’ll be your first destination since the moon

    Jupiter:
I’m Jupiter, with my 79 moon crew
    Like Io and S/2003…

    Moons:
    J 2!

    Jupiter:
Yea, you could say I have a pretty large girth
Here’s a storm twice the size of yo momma,
    Earth

    Moons:
    Ohhh!

    Saturn:
My name’s Saturn, check out my pretty rings
These rings are a few of my favorite things
I’m a giant made of hydrogen and helium
And please, stop hitting me with things

    Uranus:
My name’s Uranus, and I’m an ice giant

    Neptune:
    That’s dope!

    Uranus:
I was the first planet found with a telescope
I rotate backwards, and on my side
    I smell like rotten eggs,
But that’s just the hydrogen sulfide

    Neptune:
I’m Neptune, I’m the windiest planet around
    I’ve got supersonic winds
    That’s faster than sound
An ice giant with 13 moons
And a dark vortex that may go away soon

    Pluto:
I’m Pluto, and I will not be forgotten!

    Stage Manager:
Pluto, Pluto, Pluto, Pluto… beautiful, but, um… yea, we’ve been over this, and… you’re considered a dwarf planet these days, sooo…

    Pluto:
Gurl, I’m the biggest object in the Kuiper Belt.

    Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars
    Jupiter, Saturn
    Uranus, Neptune

    Jupiter:
Sing along, real strong, for the next tune

    Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars
    Jupiter, Saturn
    Uranus, Neptune

    Pluto:
    And, I guess, not Pluto

VY Canis Majoris (VY CMa) is a red hypergiant star located in the constellation Canis Major. With a size of 2600 solar radii, it is the largest known star and also one of the most luminous known. It is located about 1.5 kiloparsecs (4.6×1016 km) or about 4,900 light years away from Earth. Unlike most stars, which occur in either binary or multiple star systems, VY CMa is a single star. It is categorized as a semiregular variable and has an estimated period of 6,275,081 days, or just under 17,200 years.

Antares is a red supergiant star in the Milky Way galaxy and the sixteenth brightest star in the nighttime sky (sometimes listed as fifteenth brightest, if the two brighter components of the Capella quadruple star system are counted as one star). Along with Aldebaran, Spica, and Regulus it is one of the four brightest stars near the ecliptic. Antares is a variable star, whose apparent magnitude varies from +0.9 to +1.8.

The Pistol Star is a blue hypergiant and is one of the most luminous known stars in the Milky Way Galaxy. It is one of many massive young stars in the Quintuplet cluster in the Galactic Center region. The star owes its name to the shape of the Pistol Nebula, which it illuminates. It is located approximately 25,000 light years from Earth in the direction of Sagittarius. It would be visible to the naked eye as a fourth magnitude star, if it were not for the interstellar dust that completely hides it from view in visible light.

Rigel (β Ori / β Orionis / Beta Orionis) is the brightest star in the constellation Orion and the sixth brightest star in the sky, with visual magnitude 0.18. Although it has the Bayer designation beta, it is almost always brighter than Alpha Orionis (Betelgeuse).

Aldebaran (α Tau, α Tauri, Alpha Tauri) is an orange giant star located about 65 light years away in the zodiac constellation of Taurus. With an average apparent magnitude of 0.87 it is the brightest star in the constellation and is one of the brightest stars in the nighttime sky. The name Aldebaran is Arabic (الدبران al-dabarān) and translates literally as the follower, presumably because this bright star appears to follow the Pleiades, or Seven Sisters star cluster in the night sky. This star is also called the Bull's Eye because of its striking orange color and its location in the bull's head shaped asterism. NASA's Pioneer 10 spacecraft, which flew by Jupiter in 1973, is currently traveling in the direction and will reach it in about two million years.

Arcturus (α Boo / α Boötis / Alpha Boötis) is the brightest star in the constellation Boötes. With a visual magnitude of −0.05, it is also the third brightest star in the night sky, after Sirius and Canopus. It is, however, fainter than the combined light of the two main components of Alpha Centauri, which are too close together for the eye to resolve as separate sources of light, making Arcturus appear to be the fourth brightest. It is the second brightest star visible from northern latitudes and the brightest star in the northern celestial hemisphere. The star is in the Local Interstellar Cloud.

Pollux (β Gem / β Geminorum / Beta Geminorum) is an orange giant star approximately 34 light-years from the Earth in the constellation of Gemini (the Twins). Pollux is the brightest star in the constellation, brighter than Castor (Alpha Geminorum). As of 2006, Pollux was confirmed to have an extrasolar planet orbiting it.

Sirius is the brightest star in the night sky. With a visual apparent magnitude of −1.46, it is almost twice as bright as Canopus, the next brightest star. The name Sirius is derived from the Ancient Greek Σείριος. The star has the Bayer designation α Canis Majoris (α CMa, or Alpha Canis Majoris). What the naked eye perceives as a single star is actually a binary star system, consisting of a white main sequence star of spectral type A1V, termed Sirius A, and a faint white dwarf companion of spectral type DA2, termed Sirius B.

The Sun is the star at the center of the Solar System. The Sun has a diameter of about 1,392,000 kilometres (865,000 mi) (about 109 Earths), and by itself accounts for about 99.86% of the Solar System's mass; the remainder consists of the planets (including Earth), asteroids, meteoroids, comets, and dust in orbit. About three-fourths of the Sun's mass consists of hydrogen, while most of the rest is helium.

  • How the universe works - The Mystery of The Sun - Space Discovery Documentary

    48:49

Everyone else had left for the night and Lujhendra Ojha was alone in his university’s planetary science lab when something caught his eye.
He was combing through images from the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter, a spacecraft that circles the Red Planet capturing scenes of the alien landscape. That’s when he noticed in two images of the same swath of Martian terrain – taken at different times – that dark streaks appeared to be oozing down a slope.

Though he was only an undergraduate student at the time, Ojha had uncovered something big. But it wouldn’t be until several years later that he knew what that something was.

  • Two Confirmed Planets at Proxima Centauri. One in the Habitable Zone!

    9:18

Astronomers have discovered thousands of exoplanets, and still need to confirm thousands more. And over the coming decades, we’ll probably learn of millions of planets, orbiting stars we’ve never heard of.

That’s why it’s reassuring to know astronomers are learning a tremendous amount about the closest star system to our own, Proxima Centauri. In fact, we now know of two planets orbiting the red dwarf star, one of which is in the habitable zone.

  • Journey To Another Universe - Space Documentary HD

    50:07

    Spacemen, Journey to another Universe
    credit: Naked Science
    monetized by: PioneerProductionsUK
The Real Star Trek discovers the challenges humankind will have to overcome to journey to distant stars.

One day we may face no choice but to leave Earth, forced by an ice age, pollution or a meteorite to find a new home elsewhere in the galaxy. The difficulties are daunting, humans evolved to live on Earth, not in space. We meet the scientists who are making journeys to Mars and beyond possible.

The first task is finding the right planet; humans need oxygen and water, so not any old earth will do. We meet David Miller, the MIT scientist who works on the Terrestrial Planet Finder project and thinks it will make the job of finding a new home a whole lot easier. The ‘TPF’ is a set of orbiting satellites which can spot Earth-like planets and reveal whether they have a ‘human-friendly’ atmosphere.

Once we’ve found a target, there’s the small matter of getting there. Just traveling to Mars and back is likely to take years. Journeys to stars are likely to be decades if not centuries. We look at some of the concepts to come out of NASA’s propulsion labs, from solar sails to antimatter.

But even the rocket scientists can’t make our ship break the speed of light; we have to accept that crews are going to have to be in this for the long haul. We meet scientists who are trying to ensure that they arrive at their destinations healthy and ready to start life on a new planet.

At MIT, we see centrifuges that mimic the effects of gravity, installed in a spaceship they might stop the crippling loss of muscle and bone mass that would threaten our astronauts. Dava Newman demonstrates her revolutionary design for a spacesuit on a climbing wall, made of the flexible material it will work with the wearer unlike the bulky suits currently used. We also reveal the work being done to overcome the deadly effects of cosmic radiation that threatens to wreck our crew’s DNA.

We also look at the work being done to keep our crew in sound mind. Sealed in a ship for years with only faint communications with Earth they may rely on the software being designed by David Dinges, which allows a computer to spot when humans are becoming stressed.

Eventually, though we may have to accept that more drastic changes are needed before we can leave for the stars. From hibernation pods to methods to slow down aging, the world of science fiction may have to become fact before we can go our solar system. And if we embrace genetic manipulation to redesign ourselves for space, we may also have to change our ideas of what a human is.

  • Universe: Beyond the Millennium - Creation

    50:56

Universe: Beyond the Millennium is a television series observing astronomical phenomena, research, and theories on the universe and its origins.

    Narrated by John Hurt.

The documentary premiered in 1999 and presents an overview of the universe as humans understood it at that time, and how we think it will evolve in the next millennium. Using 3D computer generated graphics, the series features animated sequences that offer insight into the Big Bang theory and the anatomy of the sun.

Creation, for years scientists have speculated about the beginning of the universe. Some astronomers support the Big Bang theory while others purport the Steady State theory. Which one is correct? Telescopes that tune into natural heat radiation coming from space are helping scientists find answers to these and other questions.

One day our universe will cool and die, our only escape maybe to risk a flight into a different universe. Perhaps the greatest question facing the human race is to discover where we came from, and find out what is our ultimate fate. Every culture, every age, has asked that question and tried answering it.

  • Exploring and Understanding our Universe - Solar System The Secrets of the Universe Documentary

    48:12

Using ESO’s Very Large Telescope (VLT), a team of astronomers have been able to detect the telltale spectral fingerprint of water molecules in the atmosphere of a planet in orbit around another star. The discovery endorses a new technique that will let astronomers efficiently search for water on hundreds of worlds without the need for space-based telescopes.

Dr. Jayne Birkby of Leiden University presented the new result on Friday 5 July at the RAS National Astronomy Meeting in St. Andrews, Scotland.

Since the early 1990s scientists have found almost 1,000 planets in orbit around other stars. These so-called exoplanets are mostly much larger than the Earth and many are much closer to their stars than we are to the Sun, leading them to be described as ‘hot Jupiters’. In the new work the team studied the exoplanet HD 189733b, a world that orbits its star every 2.2 days and is heated to a temperature of over 1,000 degrees Celsius.
