  • Heres Powerful Insane Ability of A-10 Thunderbolt II in Action

    10:14

The Fairchild Republic A-10 Thunderbolt II (Warthog) is a single-seat, twin turbofan engine, straight wing jet aircraft developed by Fairchild-Republic for the United States Air Force (USAF). It is commonly referred to by the nicknames Warthog or Hog, although the A-10's official name comes from the Republic P-47 Thunderbolt, a World War II fighter-bomber effective at attacking ground targets.[5] The A-10 was designed for close air support (CAS) of friendly ground troops, attacking armored vehicles and tanks, and providing quick-action support against enemy ground forces. It entered service in 1976 and is the only production-built aircraft that has served in the USAF that was designed solely for CAS. Its secondary mission is to provide forward air controller – airborne support, by directing other aircraft in attacks on ground targets. Aircraft used primarily in this role are designated OA-10.

The A-10 was intended to improve on the performance of the A-1 Skyraider and its lesser firepower. The A-10 was designed around the 30 mm GAU-8 Avenger rotary cannon. Its airframe was designed for durability, with measures such as 1,200 pounds (540 kg) of titanium armor to protect the cockpit and aircraft systems, enabling it to absorb a significant amount of damage and continue flying. Its short takeoff and landing capability permits operation from airstrips close to the front lines, and its simple design enables maintenance with minimal facilities. The A-10 served in the Gulf War (Operation Desert Storm), the American led intervention against Iraq's invasion of Kuwait, where the A-10 distinguished itself. The A-10 also participated in other conflicts such as in Grenada, the Balkans, Afghanistan, Iraq, and against Islamic State in the Middle East.

  • The True Reason Why the F-22 Raptor Can Kill Anything in the Sky

    10:10

Typically, the Blue F-22s will slaughter the enemy from long-range. Indeed, as Fesler notes, if an enemy aircraft has survived to enter the “merge”—or visual range combat—and finds a Raptor, something has gone terribly wrong. That usually leads to an intensive debrief to understand what went wrong. Indeed, all of the pilots I spoke to unanimously told me that the debrief is the most important part of a training sortie. Nonetheless, F-22 pilots train extensively for a visual range fight. “We usually train full-up versus full-up,” Crash said. “We assume that a Western-trained F-22 is going to be the most challenging threat we’re going to go against.”

  • This is why the Americas Doesnt Export the F-22 Raptor

    10:32

F-22 has two things no other fighter-aircraft has (F-35 included)

All-aspect stealth. Other “stealth” aircraft are stealthy only when looked at from a relatively narrow frontal cone.
Thrust vectored engines with reduced IR signature. There are other TV engines. There are other reduced IR signature engines. But there are no other engines with both at the same time. (Russia and China seem to struggle in exactly this department. Current Russian and Chinese “stealth” fighters have “ordinary” engines with huge power and huge IR signatures that can be easily detected.)

These two things put together give the Raptor a substantial and - perhaps - decisive advantage over any other current fighter in both BVR and close combat: all-aspect stealth means harder to get a radar lock at distance, while low-IR TV engines means harder to get IR lock: the Raptor not only emits less IR radiation but also turns really quickly (as a thrust vectored aircraft should).

In other words: If a Raptor happens to stumble upon a distant fighter with a powerful radar - she’s stealthy. If a Raptor happens to stumble upon a bizarrely powerful and agile post-stallesque 4++ opponent - she’s quite agile herself and she doesn’t advertise her hot rear in all directions.

    10:56

The Air Force is beginning to work on how fast, lethal, durable and capable a new “A-10”-like aircraft would need to be in order to provide U.S. military ground troops with effective close-air support for decades to come.

Senior service officials are now exploring “draft requirements” concepts – and evaluating the kind of avionics, engineering, weapons, armor and technical redundancy the aircraft would need, Air Force officials told Scout Warrior.

Many of the core technical attributes and combat advantages of the A-10 will be preserved and expanded upon with the new effort, officials said.

  • The A-10 Warthog will keep on BRRRTing for new upgrade

    4:12

The A-10 Warthog will keep on BRRRTing in the free world for at least another decade

The Air Force has finally installed the last set of new wings for 173 of the service's 283 A-10 Thunderbolt II attack aircraft as part of a $1.1 billion contract with Boeing, Air Force Material Command announced on Monday.

Personnel from the Ogden Air Logistics Complex at Hill Air Force Base in Utah handled the rewinging of some 162 A-10s, the Air Force said, while the other 11 wings were swapped in at Osan Air Base in South Korea. And according to to test pilot, the effort was clear success.

[The rewinged A-10] flew great and passed all the [functional check flight] checks, 514th Flight Test Squadron commander Lt. Coll. Ryan Richardson said in the Air Force statement. It's unusual to have an airplane in production for as long as this one was and have it come out and fly as well as this one did.

First introduced to Air Force inventory back in 1976, the fate of the CAS workhorse known among infantry troops for the distinctive roar of its GAU-8/A Avenger gatling gun, the A-10's future has been in jeopardy in recent years due to legislative jousting over the U.S. defense budget.

While the initial Boeing contract to rewing 173 A-10s was signed way back in 2007, the Air Force told Congress in 2017 that the remaining 110 aircraft in its fleet were at risk of being permanently grounded unless lawmakers could find an additional $103 million.

That $103 million request was included in the $1.3 trillion omnibus spending bill signed by President Donald Trump in March 2018, although then-Air Force Secretary Heather Wilson told the House Armed Services Committee at t he time that the new funds only covered about four more rewings on top of the existing 173.

As of April of this year, the Air Force had set aside $267 million for a new A-10-Thunderbolt II Advanced-Wing Continuation Kit (ATTACK) to purchase about 20 total wings, as spokeswoman Ann Stefanek told Military.com at the time.

The Air Force may be inching its way towards a complete rewinging of its entire A-10 fleet, but for the moment, the prospect of keeping the A-10 BRRRTing with impunity for at least the next decade may fill the average warfighter's heart with joy.

  • A-10 Warthog Landing on US Aircraft Carrier

    9:10
