  • The Lost City Of Atlantis 2020 - Full Documentary | Paul Wallis / The 5th Kind

    38:12

For more than 2000 years, scholars of antiquity have been puzzling over Plato’s descriptions of the Island Nation of Atlantis. Questions continue to fascinate researchers and explorers to this day: FREE Newsletter : | Paul's Book Escaping from Eden U.S: - U.K Paul Wallis Channel:
Was Atlantis a real place or merely a literary device – a warning against national pride and hubris?

How could a civilization with the strength to maintain a maritime empire, and to threaten Greece’s security, have simply disappeared? Why is there no mention of Atlantis in any ancient text other than Plato’s? Where was the island capital located?
And what could possibly obliterate this famed nation – as Plato asserted – within a night and a day?

These questions have taken geological researchers all around the world – from Morocco to Indonesia, from Bolivia to the North Sea, from the Mediterranean to the Sahara. All in search of Atlantis.
Still the majority of commentators would regard Plato’s description as nothing more than literary fiction...But what are the implications for humanity if they are a true revelation of lost history..

The story of Atlantis all starts with Plato. One of the OGs of philosophy, Plato had him some great thoughts, and people have claimed that all philosophical thought is now pretty much just a footnote to Plato’s writings.Plato wrote a bunch of works in his time, and he wrote one piece of dialogue called Critias, which discussed a lost island by the name of Atlantis.

By all meanings of the word, Atlantis was definitely a Utopia. It was the Utopia even before Thomas Moore wrote his book by the same name in 1516. Atlantis was wealthy beyond compare but they didn’t let it cloud their judgement or self control, and for many generations, everything was perfect. People were pious towards the gods, they did not take up war without just cause or have any civil strife.

The Atlanteans had a bad case of Hubris, a greek term that means they had too much pride and thought they were better than the gods. And as we know… the gods are never very kind to people who think they’re better than them… just look at the story of Bellerophon and how he tried to fly up mount Olympus on Pegasus… that ended super badly. So Zeus saw that the Atlanteans had become every spoiled rich kid from my super sweet 16 and was pretty much like… bye! Plato says Atlantis was struck by an earthquake, and became an impassable barrier of mud to voyagers from there to any part of the ocean. And just like that… it was gone.

Where is the lost city of Atlantis? There are many theories like the Bahamas, Antarctica, perhaps they were the Minoans... the list goes on. It's most like though, that the story was an allegory, and Plato came up with it to prove a point.

Atlantis wasn’t actually a popular Greek myth until the late-1800s when an American by the name of Ignatius LDonnelly wrote a book called “The Antediluvian World” in 1882 saying that he believed that there was an ancient civilization that was technologically and morally superior to everyone else. He believed Plato’s Atlantis was this amazing civilization that spawned other civilizations and that all advances in humanity could be traced back to this lost island and added a lot more “facts” that have become part of the Atlantis myth. For example, Egypt was a colony of Atlantis, the gods and goddesses of the ancient Greeks, Phoenicians, Hindus and Scandinavians were in fact the kings, queens and heroes of Atlantis and all of their feats were true historical events, and that under the oceans somewhere, there lies a sunken island with an incalculable amount of treasure. The problem is, not one of his claims had any hard evidence.

    23:41

Created by Plato as a antagonistic rival to his idealistic interpretation of Ancient Athens, his portrait of Atlantis is nevertheless incredibly detailed - describing the history of the island, its geography, and finally the people who counted the doomed paradise their home before they met their end beneath the waves.

  • Fine-tuning the climate | DW Documentary

    42:26

Engineers and scientists are trying to intervene in the Earth’s geochemical cycles. Because it appears efforts to cut CO2 won’t suffice to avoid irreversible climate change. But does geoengineering offer a real solution? Or is it just human hubris?

Some scientists believe that we need to explore radical, and perhaps dangerous, technologies in order to be able to lower the earth’s temperature through geoengineering in the near future.
Science journalist Ingolf Baur explores the feasibility and risks of leading geoengineering projects. His journey takes him to meet scientists in Switzerland, Iceland, the US and Peru. Along the way, he encounters two very different strategies: One is to fish climate-damaging CO2 from the atmosphere and sink it underground or in the deep sea. The other, and this is the far more controversial strategy, seeks to develop techniques that dim sunlight.

Global warming is causing entire mountain ridges like the Moosfluh above Switzerland’s Aletsch Glacier to break off. Such dramatic changes could increase the pressure to try geoengineering.
Its most prominent proponent is David Keith from Harvard University in the US. He’s devised experiments to to sound out the possibilities of solar geoengineering. His idea is for fleets of aircraft to dump millions of tons of sulfur into the stratosphere every year, where it should reflect part of the incoming sunlight back into space. As audacious as this method seems, it’s actually no different to what happens during volcanic eruptions.

Or could we still manage to get greenhouse gases out of the atmosphere again? In Iceland, a group of researchers is using a special process to filter carbon dioxide from the air and pump it 2,000 meters deep into basalt rock. The surprise: after a few months, the CO2 is already reacting chemically and turning to stone, which renders it harmless - permanently. The quantities are still far too small, but it shows that as controversial and risky as some geoengineering methods may be, in the end we may need technology to avert or at least mitigate the effects of climate collapse.

  • Who is Mona Lisa? | DW Documentary

    42:27

Leonardo da Vinci's Mona Lisa is probably the world’s most famous painting. But whose portrait actually is it? There are two clues to the identity of the mysterious young woman, but they are mutually exclusive. Can the riddle ever be solved?

Every year, millions of visitors view the portrait exhibited in the legendary Louvre in Paris. But what makes the Mona Lisa so special? Who is hidden behind this smiling and yet sad face? Who was Leonardo's model? Or is she even the imaginary image of an ideal beauty? Experts have been wrestling with this question for centuries. There seems to be evidence for two explanations. Both variants have been handed down in writing, but they are not compatible.

The most recognized theory goes back to the biographer Giorgio Vasari. According to him, the portrait is of Lisa del Giocondo, the wife of a Florentine silk merchant who had commissioned the work from Leonardo in 1503. But this is contradicted by a note of the chronicler Antonio de Beatis dating back to 1517, in which da Vinci states that he produced the painting at the request of Giuliano de' Medici. The artist said it was an imaginary representation de' Medici's mistress Pacifica Brandani, with whom de’Medici had an illegitimate son. Within the community researching Leonardo today, both theories have their supporters. Using elaborate reconstructions, original locations and scientific methodology, this documentary delves deep into the time of Leonardo da Vinci.

  • Climate change – living on the water | DW Documentary

    42:27

Sea levels are rising faster and faster, threatening 700 million people who live on the world’s coasts. Will water become the habitat of the future? Visionary projects for a life with the tides are forging ahead worldwide.

Experts forecast that by 2100, sea levels will be two meters higher than they are today. This could force 40 percent of the world’s population out of their homes, for example, in Mumbai, Tokyo, Guangzhou or Bangladesh. The US won’t be spared either. Miami, New Orleans and New York would also have to be evacuated. Entire city districts would be under water. Climate change would drastically alter our metropolitan areas.

That's why ideas that originated in science fiction have now becoming reality. Floating and underwater buildings could become places of refuge. What sounds like a utopia is soon to become reality. The first pioneers are already living in floating neighborhoods. Could the South Pacific paradise of Tahiti also be saved in this way?

This is still all tantalizing luxury. Visionary hotel operators offer rooms with an underwater view. Or dinner during which fish and marine life are a feature in floating restaurants. Many of these futuristic plans involve water. Will we be farming on the sea? Will the SeaOrbiter” floating research station designed by Parisian architect Jacques Rougerie get underway soon? Or will we walk through seaports on floating boulevards?

In this Units of History episode we turn to the Achaemenid Persian Empire and their 10,000 Immortals who famously fought against the Spartans at the Battle of Thermopylae.

The documentary begins by looking at the origins of the unit. This involves a discussion of their first appearance in the history books by Herodotus who describes them in his account of the Greco Persian war and the invasion of Xerxes. Outside of this however, the historical record is quite limited. We therefore have to speculate on how this elite unit came about. One theory we present is the idea that the Persian Immortals were initially a bodyguard units at the immediate disposal of the Kings of Persia around which armies could be formed. Over time their prestige, size, and organization increased as the Achaemenid Empire expanded. Again due to a lack of records, we only speak briefly on their training.

Next we take a look at the weapons and armour of the Persian Immortals. This includes things like scaled armour, tall shields, a bow, axe, spear, and sword. This is to be contrasted with their fantastical depiction in the movie 300 where they fight against the equally mythologized spartan army.

We then cover the battle tactics of the Immortals and their service history. This involves extensive fighting against other eastern forces, steppe nomads, indians, egyptians, and of course greeks. Specifically we discuss their involvement in the battle of thermopylae, the battle of Plataea, the battle of Cunaxa, and the battle of Gaugamela. Stay tuned for more persian army documentary videos and coverage of other famous units of history!

  • Rising threat from the seas | DW Documentary

    42:26

How high will the oceans rise due to climate change? The projections are the subject of dispute, with scientists continually correcting their estimates upward. Is this just panic-mongering or are these scenarios within the realm of possibility?

Can we make any reliable predictions about the world’s oceans? If all the ice in Antarctica and Greenland were to melt, sea levels would rise by more than 66 meters. The consequences for coastal populations are gradually becoming clear. By 2100, coastlines around the world could change radically. The research being conducted by marine scientists will decide how affected regions can prepare for the disaster on the horizon. At what point will governments have to consider evacuating areas on the basis of cost-damage analyses? It is a process that has already begun in places like the United Kingdom.

Aftermath: Population Zero - The World without Humans | Free Documentary
What would happen if, tomorrow, every single person on Earth simply disappeared? Not dead, simply gone, just like that. A world without people, where city streets are still populated by cars, but no drivers. A world where there is no one to fix bridges or repair broken windows…

After being on the receiving end of humanity for millennia, nature would finally be given a chance to take the world back.

But how would it work? How long would the skyscrapers and houses last if they were abandoned? How would suburban pets fare without people to feed them? How would the forests, the oceans and the wildlife react if there was suddenly an end to all the hunting, fishing and farming?

“Aftermath” is the astounding story of a world that humans will never see. The two-hour special examines the impact of human beings on this planet by proposing what the Earth might be like without people.

  • Evidence From The Ground That The Richat Structure Is Atlantis

    39:50

I visited the Richat Structure in Mauritania to investigate the claim that it is the lost city of Atlantis. I found only evidence that supports the argument.

    Evidence found:

    1. Smooth, even plane for hundreds of kilometers to the south of the Richat Structure.
    2. Many beautiful and large mountains in the area immediately surrounding the Richat.
    3. Neolithic artifacts found in abundance.
    4. Observable mud flats.
    5. Exact construction techniques described by Plato still in use today both inside and at the entrance to the Richat in Ouadane.
    6. Tops of rings are perfectly leveled and ideal for construction.
    7. Freshwater fossils carbon dated to the time of Atlantis' existence and destruction.

I think a lot more work needs to be done at the Richat, especially be geologists and archaeologists.

There are no ruins or evidence of ancient civilization to be found anywhere that I found, but if the city was built with relatively primitive building techniques like those still used today at the site by local peoples, nothing would have survived a cataclysmic flood.

Could this have been the pivotal moment when humanity suddenly became obsessed with utilizing the largest stones possible in their constructions?

I’m going back to the Richat in a few months to do some more work and investigation. If you would like to join send me an email.

Huge shout out to Josh from World Alternative Media who helped with the logistics!! I think we have different interpretations of the site so be sure to check out his video as well.

  • Plato Crete Atlantis and Holy Mountain - Dr. M.Tsikritsis

    15:23

    #antitheseis

All the time researchers, archaeologists and scientists deal with Atlántida, trying to investigate if it is a myth or a reality and if it was ever existed where was it.
This video presents an investigation about the time and place where Plato first learned about Atlantida. The evidence that is presented in this paper correlates the initiation of Plato into the myth of Atlántida with Crete.
In short, a possible scenario is that during Plato’s third travel in Sicily, he finished his introduction to Pythagorean theory as it is described in Timaio. For fulfilling the requirements of his initiation into Pythagorean theory, he came to Crete, in order to see the sanctuary of Zeus in the Holy mountain. In his tracing Pythagoras’ path to Zeus Sanctuary, Klinias, who was an important person of Knosian society and a descendant of the wise man Epimenides, walks together with Plato and describes to him the Atlantida as his father had described to him. Epimenides was the wise man who had initiated Pythagora into mysteries. It seems that a basic element to someone’s introduction to mysteries was his introduction Atlantida’s myth.

  • Jewellery from lost city goes on show

    6:25

    (31 Jul 2020) LEAD IN:
A new exhibition in Pompeii tells the stories of some of the people who lived in the doomed city through their jewellery.
The objects range from the gold of wealthy inhabitants to more modest possessions that were owned by the middle classes.

    STORY-LINE:
The ancient Roman city of Pompeii, buried for centuries under ash, following the dramatic eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 A.D.
To this day, Pompeii's famous ruins are a source of wonder and mystery to its countless visitors.
It can be hard to get a sense of the human tragedy amongst the buildings.
Now a new exhibit showcases some of the jewellery and personal care items found in and around the ruined city.
Jewels, face creams and other precious statues and ornaments dedicated to the gods, are on display.
They are part of some 300 finds excavated in the region in recent decades.
Grete Stefani, archaeologist at the Pompeii site explains what the items reveal about the people who lived there.
It is the finds from Pompeii that show us what attention was paid to beauty, understood as elegance, as clothing, as body care, as hairstyles, as make-up and as perfumes. Of course, one of the most important things was jewellery. After all these aspects of body care and cosmetics, people wore jewellery that allowed them to show others their rank, so they were either very wealthy or of a more modest class.
Among the finds is the famous Gold Bracelet, which weighs an incredible 610g, and the clasp of which is two serpent heads with precious stones for eyes.
The exquisitely preserved piece of jewellery was found in the 1970s on the wrist of one of the victims, and after which one of the most luxurious villas of Pompeii was named.
Some gold jewels were found on the body of a woman who some archaeologists believe was a slave and perhaps a secret lover, and had received the jewels from her master, as shown by the inscription inside a gold bracelet that says 'Dominus ancillae sue' (Master to his handmaiden).
According to other archaeologist,s it may have been just a playful way of indicating a love affair between a man and a woman explains Stefani.
There's an inscription on one of these bracelets that says, 'Dominus ancillae suae' (The master to his handmaiden). Archaeologists have discussed a lot about the true meaning of this phrase, so if it was really a master who gave the bracelet to his slave or if it was a playful way of indicating a loving relationship between a man and a woman.
Viewers get to see the fashions of the time across a vast period, from the 8th and 7th centuries BC, to the 1st century AD.
The finds were unearthed in digs including at the proto-historic village of Longola - which was a settlement on islets near Pompeii populated from the Middle Bronze Age -- to the protohistoric necropoleis of Striano, one of several burial sites scattered around the doomed city.
Some women were buried along with their make-up and trinkets, according to excavated tombs in the necropoleis.
From the 1st century AD, Roman women began to wear a lot more jewellery, make-up, perfumes and precious clothes. They could admire their appearance in bronze and silver mirrors.
Archaeologists found tweezers, as well as bronze and bone sticks for ear cleaning. Containers for creams were made out of bone and bronze, found with spatulas and spoons used to mix and spread them.
They also discovered perfumes, which were extremely expensive and a symbol of luxury and social status.

Atlantis may be fictional but it has a considerable impact on literature. Atlantis is an island, which was first mentioned in Plato's works Timaeus and Critias. Atlantis represents the antagonist naval power that besieges Ancient Athens.
Plato describes Atlantis as an island nation located in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean populated by a noble and powerful race over 11,000 years ago. The people of this land possessed great wealth because of natural resources found throughout their island. The
island was a hub for trade and commerce. The rulers of this land held sway over the people and land of their own island and well into Europe and Africa. Atlantis was the domain of Poseidon, god of the sea. As per the myth, Poseidon fell in love with a mortal woman, Cleit. He then created a dwelling at the top of a hill at the
center of the island and surrounded the dwelling with rings of water and land to protect her. Cleito then gave birth to five sets of twin boys who became the first rulers of Atlantis. The island was divided among the brothers with the eldest, Atlas, first King of Atlantis, was given control over the central hill and surrounding areas. At the top of the central hill, a temple was built to honor Poseidon which had a giant gold statue of Poseidon riding a chariot pulled by winged horses. It was here that the rulers of Atlantis would come to pass judgments, discuss laws, and pay tribute to Poseidon..
For generations, the Atlanteans lived simple, virtuous lives. But slowly they began to change. They became greedy and powerful. As the Atlanteans grew powerful, their ethics began to decline. Their armies eventually captured Africa as far as Egypt and Europe as far as Tyrrhenia before being driven back by an Athenian-led alliance. Greed and power dominated them. When Zeus saw the immorality of the Atlanteans, he gathered the other gods to decide a suitable punishment. Later, by way of divine punishment, the island was beset by earthquakes and floods and sank into a muddy sea. Soon, in one violent surge, it was gone. The island of Atlantis, its people, and its memory were swallowed by the sea.
Until late 1800s Atlantis was just a story. Then, an American named Ignatius Donnelly became fascinated with the story and studied flood history from Egypt to Mexico and believed that Plato was recording an actual natural disaster. Ignatius wrote a book called Atlantis, the Antediluvian World, which became a bestseller. Ignatius. Since then, many books have been written about the lost city. The most believable theory about Atlantis came from the Greek archaeologist Angelos Galanopoulos in the late 60's. He theorized that around 1500 BCE, a massive eruption of a volcano ripped apart the island of Santorini in the Mediterranean and probably wiped out most of the civilization on the Greek islands and regions of Greece. Angelos suggested this disaster is the one that sank Atlantis. If this is so, then he must have his dates wrong - or does he? He reasons that when the story was being translated, the Egyptian symbol for 100 (a coiled rope) was mistaken for the symbol for 1000 (a lotus flower). This changes the date from 9000 years ago to 900 years ago. The only thing wrong with this explanation is that Plato specifically said the city was near the Pillars of Hercules, which are thought to be nowhere near Greece.
The exact location of the lost city of Atlantis is still questioned by many people. British Royal Air Force photo interpreter J.M. Allen believes that Atlantis is in Altiplano, near the Andes Mountains, in Bolivia. Edgar Cayce, the famous psychic chandler believed the
remains would be found off the coast of Florida near Bimini Island. Some think it's lost somewhere in Central America, the China Sea or Africa. Others believe that Atlantis is nothing more than a myth. So what do you all think about Atlantis? Is it fictional or real, comment below and let us know?
