  • The Swiss Alps: Wild Animal Paradise | Free Documentary Nature

    51:25

Gentle, green meadows, rugged rock faces, mysterious lakes, dense forests, tall mountains, low-lying river deltas, quietly meandering mountain streams and smack dab in the middle, a unique fauna - THIS is Switzerland! We trace the elementary power of nature and present animals and plants in landscapes that have hardly ever been touched by mankind. Switzerland is an alpine country, but it is also Europe's surge tank. Rivers such as the Rhine and the Rhone have their sources here. Glaciers, crevasses, icy cold caves and the underwater dome of the Verzasca are the unusual settings we chose for this film. We meet with rare, selected animal species and present their behavioural patterns, such as the Swiss or Arven jay, the lynx and albino catfish. Cold, wind, snow and extreme locations demand adaptation that make us marvel.

Watch The Baltics: Untouched Animal Paradise:

This documentary presents the natural beauty of the shifting sand dunes of the Curonian Spit, the romantic beaches of the Latvian Baltic Sea and the island worlds of Estonia. Time and again, this deserted and almost untouched nature fascinates. In the winter, ringed seals give birth to their young on the pack ice. In the spring, Konik wild horse stallions fight fierce battles amongst themselves, while colourful European rollers fly through the dune forests. Lynxes wander through the coastal forests and in the orchid meadows turncoats and hoopoes find more than enough food. On the islands around Saaremaa in Estonia, grey seals hunt for fish. They share the archipelago with Europe’s largest tern, the Caspian tern.

  • Magic of the Mountains - The Secrets of Nature

    50:17

This is the story of a land, where forces of nature are at play – beyond all things that a human can ever dominate or be able to conquer. The birth of Tyrol was one of collisions, where previous far apart continents were conjoined, wedged together and piled up on top of each other. The result is a steep world of diversity on the smallest area: depending on the depth of a valley or the height of a mountain ridge, depending on its direction and position at the edge or in the middle of the Alps, depending on whether its slope is steep or flat, there is a spot in Tyrol that is icy or mild, lush or paltry, dry or full of water. This film presents the fascinating world of the high mountains with all their diverse flora and fauna and the living conditions throughout the seasons.

Watch 'On the Wild Coasts of Patagonia' here:

A wild country. A long and narrow strip of life, where our team will share with you images never before seen of the more than 4500 kilometers of landscapes, valleys, forests and deserts of Chile.

In this intimate and classic journey we are privileged witnesses of magical moments of nature, from a cougar mother playing tenderly with her cubs on the Patagonian steppes, to the short lived desert flowering where, thanks to this unique event, different creatures modify their habits, taking advantage of the opportunity that the flowers give them.
We will also get up close with the Degu, a beautiful rodent with a brush tail. We will discover the intimacy of a Vampire bat cave, and we will see blue whales under the waters of our rolling seas.

A small sample of the enormous natural beauty of this country where day after day life tries to find food, protection and reproduction.

  • Croatias Secret Animal Paradise | Free Documentary

    50:49

Every year in the middle of Croatia, like clockwork, nature repeats itself: after the annual snowmelt, a huge flood wave spills out of the Alps toward Zagreb and Belgrade. This leads to an increase in the River Sava's water levels of some ten meters. The contents of more than ten billion bathtubs floods an area the size of Lake Constance, often for months on end, yet the Croatian and Serbian capitals are spared a flood disaster. One of the reasons for this is the fact that the Sava is able to flow unhindered. The annual floods create a natural retention reservoir for flood control: bordering the Sava is a natural paradise, exceptional in Central Europe. In the species-rich, alluvial flood plains of the last major meadow landscape of the continent, enormous predatory fish like the catfish lie in wait for prey. Fish catch birds. Birds catch fish. Horses bath in the waters. A riotous paradise with an abundant and diverse animal life. A rare view that shows what natural floodplains mean, when nature takes precedence over profit.

Wild Germany: The Mecklenburg Lake Plateau | Free Nature Documentary

At 117 square kilometres(45 sq mi), the Müritz is the second largest lake in Germany (after Lake Constance) and the largest lake located entirely within German territory. But it is far from being the only one in the north east of the country.

The Mecklenburg Lake District, between Waren and Feldberg, contains around 2000 lakes alone. Thanks to the Müritz National Park the species diversity is particularly high in the region: half of the German crane population breeds in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern; the osprey is typical of the Müritz area, the lively Eurasian otter hunts here and the endangered red milan circles the skies above.

Fred Bollmann, the former ranger and voluntary nature conservationist is actively involved in the preservation of ‘his’ wildlife world. Filming for this production took two years. The outcome is a unique portrait of this stunning region.

The Baltics: Untouched Animal Paradise | Free Wildlife Documentary

Watch The Baltic Coast: Wild Animal Paradise:

The wide, often untouched wilderness of the Baltic hinterland is home to many animals. More than 350 brown bears live in the primeval forests of Alutaguse. In the spring, the Soomaa National Park transforms into a huge lake. Europe's widest waterfall is located in Latvia. In the beginning of May, vimba bream follow the course of the River Venta. The hardly 50-centimetre-long fish have to overcome a 400-metre-long rock barrier in order to reach their spawning grounds.
The Baltics are rich in superlatives: a fifth of the world's spotted eagle stocks breed here. One of the largest courtship arenas for snipes is located here in the floodplains of Latvia. More than 1000 wolves go on the hunt in Latvia's forests. Lithuania is the land of storks - with over 13.000 pairs, no other region in the Baltic States has more white storks.

Magical Moors - A Mysterious World Full of Life | Wildlife Documentary

Watch 'Wild Germany: The Mecklenburg Lake Plateau' here:

Eerie and menacing, yet hauntingly beautiful and highly evocative. The rugged Moor landscape has long fuelled our imagination, inspiring artists and poets, evoking images both terrifying and deeply romantic. It’s a land of contrasts. Wide open heaths, windswept and barren in winter, are transformed into wonderful carpets of white, fluffy cotton grass in summer. Large bears and wolves roam alongside delicately fluttering butterflies, the bubbling calls of black grouse and the enchanting trills of the great snipe.

Moors, bogs and wetlands can be found all over in Europe. Everyone has at least heard about this habitat but most know little about it. Only 1% of the Middle European wetlands are still untouched. A gigantic amount of carbohydrate is stored inside these wetlands. But knowing about this fact does not stop their destruction. Climate change and global warming are on everyone’s mind – stopping the destruction of moors and wetlands would be one great step towards the reduction of greenhouse gases.
This film shows the beauty and the magic inside the moors and its message is clear :”Save and protect our last moors and wetlands”

Alpine Rivers: The Cradle if Life | Nature Documentary

What would happen to the mountains without water? They would turn into deserts, devoid of life and vegetation. But there are very few mountains without water on our planet. They take care of this themselves, creating their life’s element and taking water directly from the sky by entrapping the clouds around them.

This water then collects on the flanks of the mountains, where it turns from rivulets into rivers, that flow out into the oceans. Mountains and water are symbiotic, a cycle that keeps life on earth going. Mountain streams slowly move along meadows before, only moments later, turning into the spray of waterfalls or small mystic lakes. What kind of life can be found in and around this mysterious cosmos?

We will investigate the world of the rare Danube salmon and be there to see the Danube bleak spawn. We will follow giant wels catfish into their hideouts, see great crested grebes on their underwater hunting. We go diving under the ice of frozen mountain streams and lakes, discovering life where none was thought possible.

Wildlife Takeover: How Animals Reclaimed Chernobyl | Wildlife Documentary

Where humans move out, wildlife moves in…
What would happen if the world were suddenly without people – if humans vanished off the face of the earth? How would nature react - and how swiftly?

On the edge of Europe, a deserted location reveals the surprising answer. An abandoned village can change in a very short time into a sanctuary for plants, birds and animals. Shy and rare species, some thought to be on the brink of extinction are found in robust good health.

This is Chernobyl, deserted by people after the worst nuclear disaster in history and now reclaimed by a remarkable collection of wildlife and the descendents of pets that were left in the city when the people went away.
This film unmasks the surprising faces of the new inhabitants. In houses where people once lived and laughed, unexpected wildlife is making itself at home. The adventures of a likeable cast of non-human characters give viewers a rare glimpse into an alternative world. Here wild animals face challenges in an environment totally outside their experience, while once-domestic species must rediscover their wild natures within.

Where is this place of abandonment and sanctuary? The location is well known and draws a cloud of uncertainty over the future for these animal characters.

Wild Gibraltar - Where Africa & Europe Meet | Wildlife Documentary

This is a wildlife feast that features the migratory animals of the Straits of Gibraltar or the Pillars of Hercules (as it was formerly known), the border between Africa and Europe. From the dawn of history, battles have been waged in these seas. Today, one of them is still on each season- the fishing of red tuna in their migratory route through these waters. This entails an intense fight between two competitors – the Moroccan fishermen and the greatest predator in the oceans, the orca. Each year in their flight, more than 300 million of birds challenge the strongest westerly and easterly winds to head here for their winter shelters. Will they all be able to achieve this? For the other animal species, their migration to this land was either coincidental or compulsory, as pets or as bargaining chip between trading Arabs of Phoenicians. Whatever the reason, the result is that these chameleons, tortoises, mongooses and genets are all part of a legacy. Today, they have become typical species from the south of Spain, some of them being unique representatives of their species in Europe.

The Wonderful Wildlife of Sardinia | Free Nature Documentary

Sardinia has always been the epitome of pure wilderness, an emerald of volcanic origin in the Mediterranean. 1900 meters of coastline and an infinite maze of offshore islands. But Sardinia also has other facets: green valleys, rugged mountains, murmuring brooks, mysterious ruins and a unique fauna.

Just off of Sardinia's coast is an untouched underwater paradise - uniquely beautiful, but also dangerous. Pilot whales, dolphins and mobula rays populate the waters at Capo Testa in the north of the island. In the west, the lagoons of Cabras represent a wild landscape of lakes in which thousands of flamingos live and hunt the red brine shrimps. In addition to the flamingos, grey and purple herons and little egrets breed here. Thousands of bats have found refuge in the craggy mountain world of the Supramonte and Gennargentu, with their countless grottoes and caves.

In the sea we can observe the mass mating of sea slugs, and thanks to our camera robots and submersible boats we were able to observe beard worms with luminous red gills, as well as bright yellow tree corals in the area surrounding the hypothermal lava holes.

The Golden Eagle - Master of the Sky | Wildlife Documentary

    Watch 'Germany's Wild Birds' here:

When the golden eagle watches for prey while gliding over its hunting ground, hardly flapping its wings, snow and black grouse, groundhogs, hares and other animals had better watch out. Even the quick kestrel can't escape when the golden eagle has it in its sights. The fox and the common raven may be more intelligent than the golden eagle, but if they aren't careful they might also end up as a meal for the young eagles in the eyrie. The golden eagle is an extremely crafty hunter: optimally exploiting all cover, it glides close to the ground over knolls and low hills along hillsides and attempts to surprise its prey from a short distance. When it spies prey, it swoops down onto it in a nosedive. The eagle has already killed the surprised prey before it even realises what is happening to it.

This documentary gives an intimate portrait of this large bird of prey and tracks the birth and coming of age of two Golden Eagle chicks in the High Tatra Mountains, from the hatching of the eggs, until the moment when the young birds leave the nest. Tragic and funny moments make this movie an entertaining trip into the treetops of the European forests.

We look at how their mothers teach them the skills they need to survive and watch the many dangers they face. Their young lives are full of learning, moments of great tenderness and life-threatening drama. Over three years all of our bears, despite hardships and losses along the way, prove they have what it takes, they all have learned their bear essentials.

Madagascar is home to a huge array of chameleons. The extraordinary lizards have evolved into many different shapes and forms on the isolated island.
Over millions of years Madagascar’s chameleons have become expert insect hunters. Their remarkable tongues act as natural catapults and can stretch to twice the length of the chameleon’s body.
The isolated island is home to the smallest chameleon on earth. At just 2.5 cm in size the miniscule lizards eke out a living on the forest floor. These tiny chameleons give hindsight into the evolutionary path that chameleons have undertaken.
Eggs are laid on the forest floor and hatch as the dry season commences. The tiny chameleon hatchlings enter the world alone and must learn life lessons with no paternal guidance.

  • The Lüneburg Heath: Germanys Manmade Animal Paradise | Free Documentary Nature

    44:28

Forests and fields, moors and heathland, shepherds and sheep - these are the symbols of an ostensibly unspoilt landscape that has inspired poets and painters alike for centuries.
The secret of the almost 500 km² nature reserve Naturpark Südheide lies in its diversity: the origins of its soil, geology and topography can be traced back to the ice age. But the region between Hamburg and Hannover is anything but unspoilt.
For centuries, it was synonymous with heathland farmers and formed as a North German cultivated landscape. This documentary tells of an almost unknown region, which has been strongly influenced by mankind for centuries, yet still remains diverse in its nature.

Nature filmmaker Günter Goldmann presents the Lüneburg Heath to us with impressive behavioural observations of quarrelling black grouse, badgers in their subterranean burrows, the clashing of young wild boar and crane fledglings, who seek protection in the warm plumage of their parents. Aerial views present the region from a lofty perspective, while extreme HD slow motion images of black grouse, wild boar and roe deer provide insights into the world of the animal inhabitants in the heart of Lower Saxony.

For as long as there has been human memory we have been fascinated by mountains. They have been forced up by the mighty inner forces of the planet. And they are worn down by the forces of wind and flowing water and ice, and by perhaps the greatest force of all -- time. They have been places both of spiritual retreat and high peaks to be conquered. Places where humans have stretched their powers of endurance to the very limits or have searched for peace and tranquillity.

The Fascinating Wildlife of the Rhine Gorge | Free Nature Documentary

A fantastic journey amidst picturesque Rhine landscapes during the course of the seasons, which will afford the viewer intimate insights into the species-rich flora and fauna and will certainly whet their appetites for their own personal discovery tours.

No other German waterway has featured in literature, music and poetry as often as the Rhine. And no other region in Germany is as famous internationally as the Upper Middle Rhine Valley between Bingen, Rüdesheim and Koblenz. This spectacular river valley was recognised in 2002 as a cultivated landscape of enormous diversity and beauty by UNESCO and distinguished as a World Heritage site.

The large number of castles, the steep slope viticulture, the legendary Lorelei and the small hamlets that cling to the narrow riverbank beneath the steep slopes, are all ingredients that go into making the Rhine one of Germany's most romantic areas. The extraordinary amounts of natural riches in the Middle Rhine Valley on the other hand, are virtually unknown. In the wildly romantic and steep cliffs on both sides of the Rhine, a fascinating, almost unparalleled biodiversity abounds, including absolute treasures rarely found anywhere else other than in the wild nature of the Lorelei Valley.

Northern Woods - A Tribute to the Ancient Forests of the North | Nature Documentary

Watch 'Alpine Rivers: The Cradle of Life' here:

Northern Woods is a homage and a cultural-historical consideration at the same time. The film portrays the German/Northern European forest and shows its development from primeval to intensively managed forest. It was once inhabited by wild animals such as wolves, bears, eagles, deer and musk ox. Its cultivation was carried out by Celts and Teutons. Today the forest is often a victim of environmental degradation and overexploitation.

8000 Miles to Alaska: A Journey Along the Longest Border in the World | Free Documentary Nature

What is America? Just a huge, spacious and naturally wild country - or is it still a project? And who are the Americans? A torn nation of people without roots and history - or more than all of this? What unites, what divides, what characterises and what changes them? How different are their daily lives, even now, in the icy cold, snowbound winter - depending on whether they live on Maine's remote outer islands, or in arctic Deadhorse, near the Great Lakes or in the prairies of the mid-West, in the Blackfoot reservation in the Rocky Mountains, or on board a yacht from Seattle?

To discover America's characteristics and their transition - always with a view to the people and how they perceive home - Klaus Scherer travels through his host country on a route hitherto neglected by previous reporters: along the north border. Thus, a program event is created, whose highly visual landscape and nature photographs, along with personal experiences, connect with those we meet, visit and accompany along the way - from the dwarf school on Monehegan Island, to the head gaffer of the Niagara Falls; from wolf and bear monitors in Idaho, to the ice fishers at the Arctic Circle.

  • Animals building skills

    50:01

Everyone needs a place to live, but some aren't happy with the great outdoors, they look for some home comforts - they use extraordinary specialist building skills to construct the perfect home. Homes have many uses. They can prove a bolthole to escape predators, a safe nursery in which to raise young, a food store and a shelter from bad weather.
Animals of many shapes and sizes build their own homes. Perhaps the biggest construction projects are those undertaken by ants. Hundreds of thousands work together to construct their home.
Small mammals are expert diggers. Meerkats and hamsters both excavate elaborate tunnels where they can stay out of harm's way and raise their young, though the hamster likes to work alone while the meerkats prefer to have the company of an entire clan.
When it comes to making a nursery, it’s birds who steal the show. In just a few days they can construct a basket of twigs - a nest that can support their growing family and keep them out of harm's way.
There is one other good builder in the animal kingdom - us. Did we learn our skills from the animal home builders?

  • Majestic Bears of Alaska & British Columbia | Free Documentary Nature

    51:39

Our film journey begins in Alaska's west. We are hoping to find glacier bears in the glacial regions of the Katmai National Park on the Douglas River. At the end of July, brown bears have now arrived to fish for salmon. In the surrounding forests, grizzlies look for berries and fresh, green twigs. The Katmai is Alaska's most volcanic area, and with 15 active volcanoes it is a veritable powder keg, surrounded by glaciers. In the Hook glacier region moose and lynx accompany us. Bald eagles have arrived at the glacial boundary and begin to tear apart their freshly caught prey. At last, we catch sight of a glacier bear. Hungry, he has left the ice region and has been forced down here in search of food, which he satisfies extensively with fresh shoots and berries.
Continuing our film trip, we head for Prince Royal Island in British Columbia. En route, we meet with black bears on their way with their young to fish for salmon. The mother bears have to remain alert to protect their young, as we have spotted some New World porcupines too.
Then, out of the blue, directly in front of us: the Kermode, or spirit bear. He shows no signs of timidity and is only interested in one thing: salmon. Then, a further Kermode appears, enjoying his cranberry dessert, allowing us to approach him, almost too close for comfort. But a black bear arrives on the scene and claims the cranberry bush for itself. After a brief confrontation, the Kermode opts to leave, preferring to focus on salmon fishing. Fascinating footage of this rare species of animal.

Kingfisher - The Hunt for the Flying Diamond | Free Nature Documentary

This is the story of an animal filmmaker who fulfilled a childhood dream: a documentary, featuring the reclusive and rare kingfisher. The material was not shot in some distant country; it was made here in Germany, in the centre of Europe's green heart, near a tributary of the Rhine.

Animal filmmaker Hans-Jürgen Zimmermann used to admire the flying diamond even as a small child. As an adult, he could at last capture this beautiful bird on film - closer and more intensive than ever before. The results enable us to share his observations as if we had actually participated in the film our-selves. Watch the kingfisher, caught on the wing whilst hunting. Experience how elegantly and powerfully the bird breaks the surface of the water, thereby catching small fish. Enjoy detailed footage of the exciting family life of these fascinating animals.

The film reveals the secret life of the timid kingfisher, from the beginning of territorial conflicts in spring, the digging of a breeding hollow and the hostile attacks of a sparrow hawk, to the persistent expelling of the young birds from the parental territory - all captured in truly unique pictures. Experience a passionate and unforgettable documentary. Look forward to this delightful declaration of love to our wild nature - and to the flying diamond.

Skagerrak - Europe's Unique Marine Animal Habitat | Free Nature Documentary

Watch 'Vicious Beauties - The Secret World of the Jellyfish' here:

The strait that connects the North Sea with the Baltic, with depths of over 700 meters, is notorious for its dangerously strong currents. But currents also mean food and therefore nourishment for the large swarms of fish that inhabit the region. The sea grass meadows are comparable with those off the Californian coast.
Harbour seals, grey seals and orcas hunt here, as do the rare black mouth cat shark and porpoises. Close by, catfish mate, which in itself is quite spectacular and never caught on film in this way before. Lion's mane jellyfish with nettle threads of up to 30 meters in length make their way through the open sea.
Skagerrak's coastal regions are amongst the most beautiful and varied in Europe and boast one of the world's great bird paradises. Oystercatchers, sandwich and arctic terns are more plentiful here than anywhere else in Europe. The infinitely long dune landscape of the Skagerrak, is Denmark's answer to the skerries of the Swedish and Norwegian coasts.
Large seal colonies can be found in the isolation of the small, picturesque islands and one can come face to face with the animals. In this rough, yet infinitely beautiful landscape, the many streams and rivers that open out into the Skagerrak, are quite remarkable. We accompany salmon in an equally beautiful river landscape and meet with ospreys and sea eagles and eventually come face to face with a brown bear mother and her little ones.

  • Norway: Land of Fjords, Islands and Vikings | Free Documentary Nature

    50:50

This film shows Norway at its finest and most beautiful. Only if the weather was fine, we switched the record button on our camera. The result is a touching documentary about this breathtaking country.

The film shows primeval landscapes, fjords, glaciers, culture and animals in the typical clear, dust free lights of the northern hemisphere. The warm Gulf Stream creates a mild climate even to the north of the arctic circle. So agriculture and live-stock breeding is possible where one expects strong winters and cold summers.

At some of the slopes of the fjords even strawberries, cherries and apples grow. Only the hinterland in the far north is covered in deep snow during the winter until Easter. But the Sami and the reindeers are pretty well adapted to these conditions.

  • Family Spirit: The African Golden Wolf | Free Documentary Nature

Family Spirit: The African Golden Wolf | Free Wildlife Documentary

Watch 'How the Wolf is Reconquering the Earth' here:

NOTE: This documentary was filmed and produced in 2008. Since then a series of analyses on the species' mitochondrial DNA and nuclear genome have revealed, that the previously thougt African variant of the Golden Jackal is actually distinct from it and is more closely related to the gray wolf and the coyote. Subsequently it is now known as the African golden wolf (Canis lupaster). Please excuse the outdated informations stated in this documentary.

This film follows the lives of some of Africa’s smartest and most sociable animals, two families of golden jackals living in Tanzania’s spectacular Serengeti Plains. These animal characters are possibly the most endearing killers you’re ever likely to meet. The events of their lives in just one breeding season are full of drama, comedy, tragedy and tenderness.

Jackals live in a nuclear family and they mate for life. Our two Jackal families are neighbors on the Short Grass plains between Naabi Hill & the Gol Kopjes. The “Gol” pair Storm & Zabar have three young pups just out the den, and the Naabi Hill couple, Hunter and White Tip, have 5 older pups. Only three are to survive

This film will highlight the intimate relationships, the politics and the extraordinary bond that holds the jackal families together. These are families that do everything as one. They hunt together, eat together, and defend their home together and that’s just as well because they wouldn’t stand a chance on their own. Life on the plains isn’t easy. Competition is fierce, and there are always larger, stronger predators around who could do serious damage to the jackals. Staying together, united as a family, is the jackal’s sure way to success.

Germany's Wild Birds - Rulers of the Air | Wildlife Documentary

Birds are truly universal and can be found almost everywhere on our planet!
By monitoring ten interesting bird-watching locations, we document not only the silver herons in the Westerwald, but also the last great bustards in Havelland. Then there are the great crested grebes in their splendid plumages, shown building their nests and during courtship, in an area of extinct volcanoes: the Eiffel.
Add to this, exotic wild birds and colorful parakeets, the newest members of the population in a park in Wiesbaden. We have resting migratory birds, ducks and waders on the west banks of the Steinhuder Lake.
On the border to the Netherlands, in the moorlands near Münster, we find the only wild flamingos in Germany. Equally interesting are the fire geese, avocets and many birds of the coastal region not far from Hamburg harbor. At Federsee Lake in Upper Swabia, we observe the inhabitants of the extensive reed zones: bearded tits. Then we have the birds of fortune, the cranes, which interrupt their long journeys by resting on the Baltic coast. Last, but not least, in the Feldberg lake region we accompany the ranger on an exciting sea eagle excursion. With this film, you are invited to experience a journey through the wonderful world of birds.

  • Winter In The Alps Wildlife Nat Geo wild National Geographic Documentary 2020 HD 4k 8k in english

    46:27

The Alps are the highest and most extensive mountain range system that lies entirely in Europe, and stretch approximately 1,200 km (750 mi) across eight Alpine countries (from west to east): France, Switzerland, Monaco, Italy, Liechtenstein, Austria, Germany, and Slovenia. The Alpine arch generally extends from Nice on the western Mediterranean to Trieste on the Adriatic and Vienna at the beginning of the Pannonian basin. The mountains were formed over tens of millions of years as the African and Eurasian tectonic plates collided. Extreme shortening caused by the event resulted in marine sedimentary rocks rising by thrusting and folding into high mountain peaks such as Mont Blanc and the Matterhorn. Mont Blanc spans the French–Italian border, and at 4,809 m (15,778 ft) is the highest mountain in the Alps. The Alpine region area contains about a hundred peaks higher than 4,000 m (13,000 ft).

World's Last Paradises | Nature Documentary

Watch 'The Nile - On the Banks of the World's Longest River' here:

This collection of short films takes the audience on an eye candy trip around the world.
The flight around the globe begins with a visit to the ice bears in the Wapusk National Park in Northern Canada. Empathetic footage of newborn ice bears is succeeded by images of turquoise-coloured water cascades in the world famous Croatian National Park at the Plitvica Lakes. In Ethiopia, the so-called bleeding heart monkeys, or Geladas, give us insights into their lives in the pack on the high plateaus of the Simien National Park.
From her, it's off way down to the Earth's south and the Great Barrier Reef in Australia. The 1500 species of fish, 350 stone coral and 80 soft coral types are all endangered by acute coral bleaching. Before long, these images may only exist on film.
Now, the viewer is taken from this colourful and gigantic, subterranean massif to the kingdom of the stone giants: in the Alps. The fascination of mountain sculptures continues at China's Li River. The stars here however are the cormorants that have been trained to fish for humans. Off the coasts of South Africa, fishing looks completely different, when millions of sardines fall victim to predatory fish, including dolphins and sharks and even Cape gannets.

  • From Ecuador to Galápagos

    44:46

Ecuador is worth a journey for just more than one reason. For example there would be the history of the Inca wall Ingapirca or the shamanism which is still prevalent. But Hans and his team have also been anxious of course to see and to feel the traces of the former colonialists from Spain everywhere in the country.

Ecuador lies on the middle of the earth, the equator. This fact is high-lighted with a huge globe, which is a main target for tourists. However, Ecuador is particularly interesting for nature-lovers. Large parts of the west of the country is covered with Amazon rainforest. For humans the jungle is inhospitable but for the animals it is an ideal place to live. The camera crew has taken some hardships to be able to observe some animals at close range.

From the alligator to the boa and from the butterfly to the squirrel monkey, such cute animals as well as dangerous predators are represented in this documentary. Everything is to discover on narrow space in Ecuador, from a magic coastal landscape up to dangerous time bombs of mother nature, the volcanoes. Highlight of the film is the visit of the Galapagos islands far off shore the pacific coast. Charles Darwin observed the turtles and the Galápagos marine iguana here. But primarily he concentrated on the finches, however. They were of greatest importance for the proof of his theory of evolution.

  • Unexpected Beauty and Unequal Duels in Saguaro National Park

    48:10

Saguaro National Park is an American national park in Pima County, southeastern Arizona. The 92,000-acre (37,000 ha) park consists of two separate areas—the Tucson Mountain District (TMD) about 10 miles west of the city of Tucson and the Rincon Mountain District (RMD) about 10 miles east of the city—that preserve Sonoran Desert landscapes, fauna, and flora, including the giant saguaro cactus.

An inventory of medium and large mammals in the park confirmed the presence of 30 species in Saguaro National Park between 1999 and 2008. Of these, 21 were found in the Tucson Mountain District and 29 in the Rincon Mountain District. A partial list of the park's mammals includes cougars, coyotes, bobcats, white-tailed deer, mule deer, javelinas, gray foxes, black-tailed jackrabbits, desert cottontails, ring-tailed cats, white-nosed coatis, ground squirrels, and packrats. One endangered mammal, the lesser long-nosed bat, lives part of the year in the park and part of the year in Mexico.

The wide range of habitats in the park supports a diverse population of birds including some, such as the vermilion flycatcher and the whiskered screech owl, uncommon elsewhere in the United States. Among the park's 107 bird species are great horned owls, cactus wrens, ravens, kestrels, turkey vultures, roadrunners, woodpeckers, hawks, quails, and hummingbirds, and one threatened species, the Mexican spotted owl.

The park's 36 reptile species include desert tortoises, diamondback rattlesnakes (one of the more commonly seen snakes), coral snakes, Gila monsters, short-horned lizards, spiny lizards, and zebra-tailed lizards. Despite the aridity, three amphibian species inhabit the park: the canyon tree frog, the lowland leopard frog, and Couch's spadefoot, which lives in burrows, emerging to breed during summer rains. Forest fires, which create erosion-prone burned areas, have destroyed many of the leopard frog's breeding pools, which fill with sediment. The Arizona Game and Fish Department lists the lowland leopard frog as a species of special concern.

Urban sprawl, air and water pollution, noise, light pollution, and a range of habitat restricted by human infrastructure put stress on the park's mammals and other animals, but the most serious immediate threat to them is roadkill. About 50,000 vertebrates a year die on the park's roads when they are hit by a vehicle. The Rincon Mountain District has few roads, but Picture Rocks Road, an east–west commuter highway crossing the Tucson Mountain District, is highly dangerous to wildlife. Attempts in 2002 to convert it to a hiking trail failed after the proposal met with stiff public resistance.

  • The Secrets Of The Amazon | Inside Natures Marvels | Real Wild

    49:46

The Amazon is the largest river on Earth and at the heart of an extraordinary ecosystem, supporting an abundance of colourful wildlife. The rainforest is still one of the least populated areas in the world, but the greed for more farmland puts pressure on its natural habitat. Nevertheless, the diversity of species here remains unrivalled in the natural world, and includes animals like the Amazon pink dolphins or manatees.
