  • 10 Biggest Waves Caught On Camera

The science behind waves’ generation is very fascinating. Winds at sea create waves of average 10 feet. But as the wave approaches the shoreline, the shallow water slows it. During storms, waves have more propelling energy. This generates a bigger wave that can go upto 30 feet or even more!

Top 10 Largest Artificial Waves Scary Wave-pools!
In nature, the creation of surfable waves depends on a near-mystical interplay among winds gusting far out at sea, cycles of the tides and the moon, the shifting contours of the ocean floor and coastline, and the weather and light at the break. While a floating wave pool wouldn’t necessarily rid itself of the flaws critics like to point out, it would literally put wave pools into bodies of water. Which are most efficient artificial stationary wave in the world. Here are Top 10 Largest Artificial Waves - Scary Wavepools!

Frozen waves are not just found in the movie “Frozen”, as they are very real. From crawling
waves to waves that look like a Slurpee, let’s look at a list of 10 frozen waves stuck in time.
    Number 10.) Lake Baikal, Russia
Lake Baikal, in the Russian region of Siberia, is a massive body of water. It is the world’s
deepest and biggest freshwater lake. The lake is also one of the oldest lakes in the world, it is at
least 25 million years old! The lake also contains about 20% of the world’s unfrozen freshwater.
Its location and the surrounding geography can lead to fascinating phenomena in the winter, as
vicious winds and cycles of melting and refreezing build and sculpt works of structural beauty.
You can witness waves freezing along the shoreline which is an unbelievable sight. Lake Baikal
is about 600km in length. The thickness of it reaches 1.5 to 2 meters. This ice can tolerate the
vehicle of about 15 tones, but sometimes we saw cars that had been fallen down. Ice has
different patterns in different parts of the lake. It happens because water is freezing layer by
layer. The ice in Baikal is also the most transparent in the world
    Number 9.) Antarctica
Antarctica is the coldest place on earth so it is natural to expect it to be home to some of the most
magnificent frozen waves. Frozen waves are caused by earthquakes and glaciers. Due to the
increasing pressure, the masses of freezing snow are said to “lose all their air”, which leads to
beautiful blue compact shapes that happen to resemble ice waves. This picture of a frozen wave

shows how spectacular a frozen wave can be. There are many frozen waves in the continent but
this specific one is truly amazing for its blue hue. When the ice compressed, it can take on a
beautiful blue color as you can see in this beautiful masterpiece of a frozen wave. It is one of the
biggest frozen waves ever discovered too.
    Number 8.) Jökulsárlón, Iceland
This picture of a frozen wave seen through a circle in ice was taken in Jökulsárlón, Iceland. It is
known as the circle on ice and after looking at the picture, we can say, rightly so. Iceland is not
an icy whole year as you would normally think. One of the most photogenic regions of Iceland
totally changes its character in mid-winter. Seen in summer, the green and mountainous
Skaftafell area along with Jökulsárlón glacier known as “lagoon” becomes a frozen world of ice
and snow in winter. After a long period of cold temperatures, the lagoon freezes over. It is
possible to enter the frozen lagoon after these long periods only. Shorter periods of warm
temperatures will break up the ice and the icebergs will start moving again. The lake provides
some of the most beautiful frozen sceneries in the world. It is literally a moment of frozen in

    Number 7.) Crawling waves
Lake ice can perform some cool tricks under the right conditions, like ice boulders in Lake
Michigan or "snowball waves" that can be seen at Maine's Sebago Lake. There is another strange
frozen-lake phenomenon called "ice stacking.", or simply known as crawling waves. Filmed at
Lake Superior in Minnesota, this video features brittle, glasslike sheets of ice that buckle and
shove as they push against the shoreline. It is almost like the ice is crawling. It's satisfying to
watch, with reflective qualities similar to oozing lava. The sights and sounds were "incredible,"

according to the person who makes the video. Lake Superior is not only the largest of all five
Great Lakes; it's big enough to hold the other four combined. This phenomenon is a very rare
occurrence and the fact that this was caught on camera makes it equally rare.

    number 6.) Frozen rolling waves
These ice waves along the shore of Lake Michigan are nature’s work of art. Although not
completely frozen, these waves give us a spectacular view of frozen waves in times. This
beautiful phenomenon is very rare and the waves are mainly chunks of ice. The movement from
the lake and high winds push these waves forward. This does not happen everywhere. For this to
happen, the wind temperature has to be way below freezing point to turn the lake water into ice,
and the winds to be strong enough to create movement in the lake. The dark skies and the icy
lands of lake Michigan in the winter give off a beautiful view of this isolated and rolling frozen
waves. Lake Michigan is one of the five Great Lakes of America. It is shared, from west to east,
by the U.S. states of Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, and Michigan. Ports along its shores include
many states including Chicago and Illinois. Have you seen this phenomenon of rolling waves in
the great lake Michigan in winter?

  • GOPro video: Caught in a rip current at NC beach | WRAL News

WRAL reporter Amanda Lamb finds a rip current at a North Carolina beach and learns how to save herself.

Lt. John Scull, with the Wrightsville Beach Fire Department Ocean Rescue Team, says rip currents are nearly impossible to see, unless you're trained to spot them.

What you're going to look for when you're looking for these rip currents is any kind of break in the waves, he said. Any kind of suspended sediment going out, and if you look carefully, you can actually see water moving backwards in the current.

    - If you look off the western coast of France, you’ll see the Isle of Rhe. The coolest part about it is what you see just beyond the shore: square waves. This strange wave pattern looks like a giant chess board over the ocean.
    - When two different swells coming from opposite directions meet, it’s known as a cross sea. This is what generates these square waves you see near the Isle of Rhe.
    - Because these two seas have totally different weather conditions, a unique pattern emerges when they collide. They create a riptide that’s stronger than your average wave - way stronger than what you’ve probably experienced at the beach with regular waves.
    - There have been a handful of cases where people got caught in the cross sea, but, thankfully and luckily, they managed to get out safely.
    - These square waves have become somewhat famous over time given that there’s really no other place in the world that boasts a cross sea like this one.
    - The Boiling Lake on the Island of Dominica is one body of water you’ll definitely want to stay away from. From high heat to strong gas emissions, there are plenty of reasons to stay out of The Boiling Lake.
    - You’ll probably want to steer clear of the town of West End on Grand Bahama Island. This deadly beach is known for being one of the most shark-infested beaches in the world.
    - While the south and west coasts of Barbados are ideal for swimming and snorkeling, the east and north beaches have incredibly strong tides that can be quite treacherous.
    - Condado Beach in Puerto Rico is a desirable destination in the city of San Juan. However, the beach’s mighty waves and powerful current make this a very dangerous place to go swimming.

iant animals are not only products of Hollywood and movies, but they walk, swim, crawl, and fly among us as well. The natural world is capable of producing incredible creatures of extraordinary size and wonder. One would be incredibly fortunate to catch a glimpse of one of these amazing creatures, but you would be even more lucky if you caught it on tape! Fortunately, we have a list of 10 Mysterious Giant Creatures that have been Caught On Tape! Stand back… Because you probably wouldn’t find yourself too fortunate encountering our number 1...

    10. Huntsman Spider - Charlotte
Unless it’s a tarantula, we don’t typically think of spiders as giants. Aside from your household wolf spider, which doesn’t grow any bigger than a couple inches in diameter, spiders are not all that large… Until you meet Charlotte.

Charlotte is a Huntsman Spider discovered in Australia where it spent the majority of its life inside an old barn, feasting on flies. This situation enabled Charlotte to stay safe from predators while it ate itself to such an enormous size. Charlotte gorged herself so much that she grew to a diameter the size of a dinner plate! That’s almost 8 inches. Chilling, right? Not to the woman who uncovered this spectacle of a creepy crawly.

Betty, the woman who discovered the giant spider, was not afraid when she uncovered it. She knew that the Huntsman Spider posed no threat to a human. They’re relatively afraid of humans and tend to avoid contact at all costs.

    9. Continental Giant Rabbit - Darius
Fortunately, our next guest is quite the opposite in terms of cuddliness and appearance.

Rabbits are one of the most popular pets to own. They’re fluffy, cute, and very often sources of humor. We all can think of a rabbit we know and love. Who wouldn’t want to give your gentle, furry friend a hug? They make great pets for kids and adults alike as they’re small and easy to manage.

Unless you get a specific breed...

This is Darius. In 2015 Darius was the largest rabbit in the world, weighing in over 40 lbs and the length of a fourth grader (4.4ft). Darius is a member of the Continental Giant Rabbit breed, which was originally bred as a source of food, but now we’ve brought them into the world of pets. Additionally, at the time of this record, Darius’ son Jeff measured around 3.3 feet with 6 months left to grow! Jeff could easily take the place as top… rabbit.

    8. Spider Crab - Crabzilla (
Our next guest is referred to as Crabzilla. I bet you can guess what it is. That’s right, Crabzilla is a giant crab. With a legspan more than double the size of a kiddy pool, Crabzilla is the largest crab to ever go on display. Crabzilla also weighs in at more than 40 lbs and is over 30 years old!

Crabzilla is a Japanese Spider Crab and is the largest member of the Arthropoda family, which includes all invertebrates with jointed limbs. After being caught in the Pacific Ocean in 2009, Crabzilla was an instant spectacle and was immediately transported to the Sea Life Center in Scheveningen where he is on display. No other display in the world has a crab this large!

    7. Ocean Sunfish (
Off the coast of Portugal, one special fish is making a run for the largest fish in the ocean. The Ocean Sunfish is a particularly large fish. How large you might ask? From fin-to-fin their length is more than double an adult human’s height! Not impressed? Well, the Ocean Sunfish can weigh more than 5,000 lbs! That’s heavier than most cars!

If their size wasn’t enough to shock you, maybe this will! A single female sunfish is able to lay over 300 million eggs at once! That’s a lot of potential children. Unfortunately, most of these eggs will be eaten by other predatory fish and marine creatures, but the capability is truly astounding. So astounding, this has landed them in the Guinness Book of World Records.

Spending most of their time in the open ocean, their contact with humans is very limited.

  • Riding the wave of the decade at Mavericks

San Diego has had plenty of big waves this past week. Monday morning the Ocean Beach Pier was closed and so was Crystal Pier in Pacific Beach. In La Jolla, the swell was more focused and waves were running four to six feet with solid eight-foot wave heights.

While San Diego has been seeing big waves, nothing compares to the surf at Mavericks in Half Moon Bay, where the waves have been 40 to 50 feet.

Peter Mel is a local and legendary big wave rider. On Friday he caught what many are calling the wave of the decade.

Maverick's is famous for its massive waves... it's one of the best spots on the planet. This place is so special, it's so deep, these waves just jack up and that's what creates these massive waves.

Here's how Peter Mel describe the ride.

I turned around and started paddling. You can see I kicked and scratched. I stood up and realized that I was really deep and was going to have to traverse [a] shallow part of the reef, the most dangerous to be. I was able to get around the corner and go underneath it ... I was committed, a little fear was there. Once I started to ride the wave, I saw how open it was, it turned to me, it looked like a huge room over my head. You can see my hands come up, I'm just enjoying it, then the wave spits all that steam comes flying by me... it's just such an amazing ride.

  • Small surfer, big waves - 6-year-old Quincy Symonds aka The Flying Squirrel

At six, Quincy Symonds is already tipped as a future Layne Beachley or Stephanie Gilmore.

They call her The Flying Squirrel. She may well be the best six-year-old surfer and skater on the planet. Prepare to be gobsmacked.
Stepping into the water at the legendary Snapper Rocks surf break on the Gold Coast, it is easy to forget that the person I’m here to film has just turned six.

Quincy Symonds (aka The Flying Squirrel, we’ll get to the nickname later) is quite possibly the world’s best six-year-old surfer and skater. The Tweed Heads local only started surfing about 18 months ago and, in a very short time, has captured the attention of the surfing world, gained multiple sponsors and garnered a fanatical following on social media.

Her parents are right behind her, but they're not pushy stage parents. Quincy’s dad Jake has been a surfer most of his life and his love for the ocean inspired her to get in the water. Her mum Kim says it was the most natural thing in the world.

“The very first time I saw her out in the ocean she changed, she became a complete person,” she explains. “To say that about a four or five-year-old might sound very strange, but I watched it happen.”

“It just doesn’t make sense to me, how she’s able to do what she does,” says Jake. “I’m amazed by it. I’m really proud of it but, to be honest, I can’t comprehend how she does it.”

“She has no fear,” offers Quincy’s coach Anthony Pope. “And she just doesn’t fall off. She has incredible balance and her ability to judge the conditions and adjust is at a level I’ve never seen in someone her age.”

While Quincy’s feats in the water are impressive on their own, they are even more inspiring given that she has battled a serious medical condition for her entire life.

Not long after she was born, she was rushed into the Intensive Care Unit suffering adrenal crisis. After extensive testing, Quincy was diagnosed with Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia, a genetic disorder that affects her body’s ability to create cortisone.

Quincy’s condition means she is steroid dependent. “Steroid dependency at this age requires medication three times a day,” Kim explains. “In times of sickness, Quincy needs intensive medical treatment.”

  • Grid Waves

Slow down and take the time to survey your environment. On a glance there’s nothing unusual here, or is there?! Look east across Portersville Bay and it’s just tiny waves. At my feet you see sea shells at the sea shore.

Coden, Alabama on a quiet summer day, just watching the waves, but look a little more closely. They are coming in from one direction on that side, from the other side they are coming in from the other direction. Where they meet, they form a perfect grid. Those are called grid waves.

Off of Coden Belt Road, it’s all about the shape of the land beneath the water- that’s called bathymetry. When you look farther out, you might notice what seems to be a sand bar going away from the coast. It seems to be acting like a natural barrier to focus the wave movement. The waves arrive from two different directions in the shallow water at the sand bar. Of course, the waves are generated by wind so that plays a role too.

Stop and look and you might be amazed. It’s simple symmetry. Sometimes you just have to… get off the grid!
