    5 Vietnam Horror Stories

Now, the war that happened between North Vietnam and South Vietnam occurred between 1955 and 1975 - a staggering 20 years that saw military contributions from countries such as Russia, China, the United States of America and South Korea. An incredibly unpopular war historically, that left the country of Vietnam with a fallout of horrific tales, war crimes, and even supernatural occurrences.  On top of that, Vietnamese folklore is rife with creepy tales of ghouls and spirits that roam the country - some of which, have a strong basis in reality.

Combat starts between American soldiers and the North Vietnamese when U.S. Army helicopters arrive in Vietnam.

Screenwriter Randall Wallace, a specialist in sweeping historical epics, steps behind the camera for this fact-based Vietnam War drama that reunites him with his Braveheart (1995) star Mel Gibson. Gibson is Lt. Col. Hal Moore, commander of the First Battalion, Seventh Cavalry, the same regiment fatefully led by George Armstrong Custer. As part of the Pleiku Campaign of late 1965, Moore is assigned to an action at Landing Zone X-Ray in the Drang Valley, an area that would come to be known as the The Valley of Death. Moore soon finds himself and his men contained to an area about the size of a football field, surrounded by more than 2,000 enemy troops and engaged in the first major battle of the war. Heroism becomes the order of the day as men like Moore, chopper pilot Bruce Crandall (Greg Kinnear), and Lt. Henry Herrick (Marc Blucas) refuse to yield, in spite of heavy losses of life. The film co-stars Madeleine Stowe, Chris Klein, Keri Russell, and Sam Elliott. We Were Soldiers is based on the book We Were Soldiers Once...and Young by Lt. Gen. Harold G. Moore (retired) and UPI reporter Joe Galloway (played in the film by Barry Pepper).

  • Reamains of Vietnam War | Saigon | Vietnam | YEDAZI18

The Vietnam War (Vietnamese: Chiến tranh Việt Nam), also known as the Second Indochina War,[57] was a conflict in Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia from 1 November 1955[A 1] to the fall of Saigon on 30 April 1975.[9] It was the second of the Indochina Wars and was officially fought between North Vietnam and South Vietnam. North Vietnam was supported by the Soviet Union, China,[13] and other communist allies; South Vietnam was supported by the United States, South Korea, the Philippines, Australia, Thailand, and other anti-communist allies.[58][59] The war, considered a Cold War-era proxy war by some,[60] lasted almost 20 years, with direct U.S. involvement ending in 1973, and included the Laotian Civil War and the Cambodian Civil War, which ended with all three countries becoming communist in 1975.

The conflict emerged from the First Indochina War between the French and the communist-led Viet Minh.[61][A 5] After the French quit attempting the recolonization of Indochina in 1954, the US assumed financial and military support for the South Vietnamese state. The Việt Cộng, also known as Front national de libération du Sud-Viêt Nam or NLF (the National Liberation Front), a South Vietnamese common front under the direction of North Vietnam, initiated a guerrilla war in the south. North Vietnam had also invaded Laos in the mid-1950s in support of insurgents, establishing the Ho Chi Minh Trail to supply and reinforce the Việt Cộng.[62]:16 U.S. involvement escalated under President John F. Kennedy through the MAAG program, from just under a thousand military advisors in 1959 to 23,000 in 1964.[63][31]:131 By 1963, the North Vietnamese had sent 40,000 soldiers to fight in South Vietnam.

  • The Hmong in Vietnam and the Legacy of the Vietnam War

On 14 March 2018, CWHP and UNPO organized a conference to educate the public on the issue of the Hmong in Laos and update those monitoring the situation on recent events. Titled “Overcoming the Past: the Hmong’s Struggle to Shed the Legacy of the Vietnam War”, the conference brought together students, professionals, and academics to discuss the current situation in Laos.

After opening remarks by a UNPO representative, Dr John Prados from the National Security Archives at George Washington University began the conference with a discussion of how the Hmong people were historically “victims of place”. Their location in the highlands of Laos, Vietnam, and Thailand led to their strategic importance to foreign military imperialism over the years. Beginning with French intervention in the region in the 1800s, Hmong were recruited to serve the interests of global powers: first on the side of France, and then the United States. Of course, this put them at odds with local government, especially since both France and the United States were ultimately unsuccessful in advancing their interests in the region. As the legacy of the US recruitment of the Hmong can be seen today in their continued persecution, the Hmong’s recruitment by global powers had negative implications for their future.

Mr Gymbay Moua followed this with a discussion of the current situation in the jungles of northern Laos. Although more than 20,000 Hmong fled to the region after the Vietnam War, fewer than 1,000 remain because of the Lao government’s violent military campaign against this population. Starvation tactics, indiscriminate shelling, and chemical weapons are all currently being used by the military against the Hmong ChaoFa people in northern Laos. The people are forced into constant movement to escape death, which means that they cannot establish farms and must rely on wild roots for sustenance. The threat of death or torture is always present, preventing many of them from surrendering to the government in exchange for a peaceful life. The situation is steadily worsening, with the increased military presence in the region leading many to believe a final eradication effort is being implemented. Finally, Mr Moua discussed the reaction of the Hmong diaspora to the situation, many of whom are afraid to side with the Hmong in Laos for fear of retaliation against their family still living in the country.

  • Flying the Freedom Birds: Flights to Vietnam

Throughout the Vietnam War, the U.S. military flew troops into and out of Southeast Asia aboard contracted commercial airliners. The women who served aboard these planes as flight attendants accompanied young servicemen, anxious and apprehensive, on their way to a war they did not fully understand. And they were there to provide compassionate support during the return flights of these soldiers, who were exhausted, elated to be coming home, yet shocked by what they had endured. The flight attendants gained a unique and formative perspective on their country at war. Although these women were an integral part of the Vietnam War experience, their contributions are largely unknown outside of the veteran community.

  • Diana Cryptosystem Cipher - unbreakable cipher used during Vietnam & Cold War

An authentic reproduction of the cipher used by US Army Special Forces (Green Berets) during the Vietnam War and though out the cold war period. Designed in conjunction with a Special Forces soldier that actually used the system in the field and who wrote the instruction sheets and a historical record of its use.
At the height of the systems use in South East Asia there were hundreds of singleton Special Forces operators, A-Teams, B-Teams, and communications trans-stations across Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia all using the DIANA system. In practice, encrypted messages were sent on high frequency radio channels using morse code which provided an additional level of security.
According to research and firsthand accounts from Special Forces operators this is the last physical cipher wheel used by the U.S. military and has not had much public discussion or exposure until this time.
This cipher is considered unbreakable when used with a One-Time Pad (OTP) per the techniques described. To demonstrate this, we are offering a prize of $500 and an authentic Green Beret to the first person who can decrypt a message that will be provided with your instruction sheet. The message was written by an active Special Forces Operative. To be honest, this is a prize we do not think will ever be claimed, even using computer technology to try and decipher it. The system is that secure.

Despite its level of extreme security, the cipher was very easy and fast to use.
To aid you in quickly using it to encode or decode a message, we have including a worksheet that even a novice can use to create secret messages. I will email you an electronic version of it so you can keep it on file and reprint as needed.

Size large is 5.5 inches in diameter. Size small is 4 inches dimeter. Disks are made from wood and all text is deeply laser engraved. The back of the disk contains the emblem of the US Army Special Forces. Made in our Hudson Florida Shop.

  • Captain Milkshake Movie..the Vietnam War and Love--Whats it all about.

The two main characters have just had a lover's quarrel. They're both reflective about their feelings about the Vietnam War. Paul is an active duty soldier who's considering going back two actual combat. Melissa is a war protester, who's feeling lost and hurt because her lover has left to go back to Vietnam. I used psychedelic colors to enhance Melissa's emotions of feeling lost and not understanding why her lover is leaving her to return to the war. Paul's sequence is shot in black and is reflective of his pensive emotions. Paul's now really wondering what the war is all about and is dealing with his mixed feelings about his love for Melissa as well. I super-imposed abstract images over the sequence to heighten their feelings of confusion, concern and emotional turmoil With no computers at this time, we had to generate these abstract images with mechanical methods such as liquid oils and water. The music was from original songs, Who Said It Came Easy and Carry Me Home. written and performed by Larry Meredith.

  • Secret Wars of the CIA

John R. Stockwell (born 1937) is a former CIA officer who became a critic of United States government policies after serving seven tours of duty over thirteen years. His books: Having managed American involvement in the Angolan Civil War as Chief of the Angola Task Force during its 1975 covert operations, he resigned and wrote In Search of Enemies.

Born in Angleton, Texas, Stockwell's Presbyterian father moved the family to the Belgian Congo when he was posted there to provide engineering assistance. Stockwell attended school in Lubondai before studying in the Plan II Honors program at the University of Texas.

As a Marine, Stockwell was a CIA paramilitary intelligence case officer in three wars: the Congo Crisis, the Vietnam War, and the Angolan War of Independence. His military rank is Major. Beginning his career in 1964, Stockwell spent six years in Africa, Chief of Base in the Katanga during the Bob Denard invasion in 1968, then Chief of Station in Bujumbura, Burundi in 1970, before being transferred to Vietnam to oversee intelligence operations in the Tay Ninh province and was awarded the CIA Intelligence Medal of Merit for keeping his post open until the last days of the fall of Saigon in 1975.

In December 1976, he resigned from the CIA, citing deep concerns for the methods and results of CIA paramilitary operations in Third World countries and testified before Congressional committees. Two years later, he wrote the exposé In Search of Enemies, about that experience and its broader implications. He claimed that the CIA was counterproductive to national security, and that its secret wars provided no benefit for the United States. The CIA, he stated, had singled out the MPLA to be an enemy in Angola despite the fact that the MPLA wanted relations with the United States and had not committed a single act of aggression against the United States. In 1978 he appeared on the popular American television program 60 Minutes, claiming that CIA Director William Colby and National Security Advisor Henry Kissinger had systematically lied to Congress about the CIA's operations.

Stockwell was one of the first professionals to leave the CIA to go public by writing a bestselling book, In Search of Enemies. The CIA retaliated by suing him in the 4th District Court in Washington, D.C.. Part of the suit intended to eliminate the possibility of selling the story for the purpose of making the movie and requested all future publications be submitted to the CIA for review. Unable to afford the travel necessary to contest the case, Stockwell filed for bankruptcy in Austin, Texas. After the litigation was processed through the bankruptcy, the CIA eventually dropped the suit.

A brief story in the book is about a CIA officer having Patrice Lumumba's body in the trunk of his car one night in then Elizabethville, Congo. Stockwell mentions in a footnote to the story that at the time he did not know that the CIA is documented as having repeatedly tried to arrange for Lumumba's assassination.

His concerns were that, although many of his colleagues in the CIA were men and women of the highest integrity, the organization was counterproductive of United States' national security and harming a lot of people in its secret wars overseas.

Red Sunset was Stockwell's next book and was published in 1982 by William Morrow Publishing Co., Inc. in hardback, then in paperback by Signet a year later. In it he discusses his prediction of a peaceful end to the cold war. Stockwell presented these ideas in fiction form in order to get it published.

In 1991, Stockwell published a compilation of transcriptions of many of his lectures called The Praetorian Guard.
