  • PC Without a GPU: Intel UHD 750 Benchmarks vs. GT 1030 GDDR5 & UHD 630

    22:29

This benchmark compares the Intel UHD 750 & UHD 630 from the i5-11600K (same IGP in the 11900K) and 10900K vs. the NVIDIA GT 1030 GDDR5 cheap GPU, seeing as GPUs are now rare.
Sponsor: EVGA Z20 Keyboard on Amazon

Watch our full review of the Intel i5-11600K:
And our coverage of Intel’s best value in the 11th Gen (the i5-11400):

With GPUs in short supply and prices higher than ever, many people are looking for ways to keep gaming until supply stabilizes for NVIDIA or AMD GPUs. Integrated graphics on CPUs may be a stopgap solution for now, alongside what should be (but aren’t) cheap dGPUs like the GT 1030. AMD is currently in between generations with its APUs, but the IGPs in Intel’s new Rocket Lake 11-series CPUs may be able to tide gamers over until they can get their hands on a GPU. Today, we’re comparing the last two generations of Intel IGPs (on the i9-10900K and i5-11600K) against cheap discrete GPUs, like the GT 1030, although we also have a test with an RTX 3080 for point of reference. We’re partly attempting to answer whether it’s “worth it” to play games on an integrated graphics processor like the Intel UHD 750 (or UHD 730) and UHD 630. We won’t be looking at AMD’s APUs today, as we’ve tested those in the past. The focus here is to cover Intel’s new launch beyond the CPU tests that we’ve already published.

  • AMD & Intel PARTNERSHIP to Make Graphics AGAINST Nvidia...!? The Secret Hand of Apple.

    11:32

Intel is licensing AMD's Radeon Graphics Intellectual Property and will be now utilizing a semi custom design to at the very least compete in the laptop sector in a partnership that has honestly shocked me by surprise, with an iGPU that is now tainted to be MUCH more powerful than their previous HD graphics line up. However are they going to 'compete in the discrete graphics market'? What will they do with this new tech besides laptops? That will be interesting to see what comes about, especially with their (Intel's) massive R&D Budget. Though I also wanted to talk about who I feel is the biggest winner in this transaction..... Apple! And also why the Intel / AMD combo will still have a very tough ride competing against Nvidia.

  • But Mummy I dont want to use CUDA - Open source GPU compute

    43:12

    Dave Airlie

CUDA has become the defacto standard for GPU compute in most fields. AI and Machine Learning via projects like tensorflow are all targeting CUDA as their runtime. CUDA however as one major flaw, it's closed source and requires closed source drivers.

This talk will explore the current state of non-CUDA compute stacks, concentrating on the OpenCL, SPIR-V and SYCL projects from Khronos, but also touching on Vulkan compute and other possibilities.

It will discuss the some possible problems with AMD ROCm and Intel OpenCL drivers from a Linux platform point of view and try to scope out what a vendor-neutral Linux focused compute stack might look like that has maximal code sharing across vendors and doesn't require shipping various vendor forks of LLVM.

linux.conf.au is a conference about the Linux operating system, and all aspects of the thriving ecosystem of Free and Open Source Software that has grown up around it. Run since 1999, in a different Australian or New Zealand city each year, by a team of local volunteers, LCA invites more than 500 people to learn from the people who shape the future of Open Source. • Warning Signs When Buying Used GPUs: How to Detect Defective Video Cards

    21:13

We're going over the most common defects with used GPUs, hopefully providing a roadmap for how to look for warning signs when buying a used card locally or online. Comment w/ your own!
Sponsor: Get 10% off Squarespace purchases (

This video is following-up our guide on preventative maintenance, dusting, cleaning, & re-pasting video cards:

We know a lot of people are eying both the second-hand and new markets right now, hoping to land whatever is available and sensible for the rest of the build. Because of this, we've had an influx of viewer emails about eBay scams and broken GPUs sold used to unsuspecting buyers. You should always pre-test a card before paying if buying physically in the same area as the seller, or if you're buyer protected, test it immediately on receipt from an online seller. In that process, you can use this video to help identify some of the most common used GPU failures. Those often include clock locks, overheating / dust build-up, dead fans, broken fans, physical card damage (like missing capacitors from a bad disassembly), bad GPU sag, and the like. Many of these are resolvable or, worst case, identifiable so that you can return the card or pass on the purchase. There are many more -- please sound-off with your experiences in the comments!

  • NVIDIA RTX 3080 PCIe 3.0 vs. PCIe 4.0 x16 Benchmarks

    12:21

The NVIDIA RTX 3080 GPU uses PCIe Gen4, and so we have another opportunity to benchmark PCIe 3.0 vs. 4.0, using an AMD X570 platform for benchmarks as to whether PCIe gen matters.

CORRECTION: Slide at 05:10 for Quake II RTX should read R9 3900XT and X570 Crosshair VIII Hero, not 10700K. Sorry about that copy/paste error.

PCIe generation testing has always been a hot topic for GPU launches, but this time, it's about PCIe 3 vs. 4. We've most commonly talked about PCIe 3.0 x16 vs. PCIe 3.0 x8, and as Ryzen has matured, that has presented opportunities for Gen4 testing -- except only the 5700XT could leverage it, and so it didn't particularly matter. That's not to say the 5700 XT wasn't good, but just that it was unable to leverage the additional bandwidth in any meaningful way. Our previous testing with Titan RTX cards also showed limited gains, and so we're revisiting this storyline today with our NVIDIA RTX 3080 GPU (the Gigabyte Eagle also makes a brief feature). This tests PCIe generational bandwidth for gaming and for workstation workloads.

  • NVIDIAs massive A100 GPU isnt for you | Upscaled Mini

    10:01

NVIDIA has announced a new graphics card based on their brand new Ampere architecture. The good news is this A100 card the most powerful GPU we've seen from NVIDIA, the bad news is that it's a card built for AI processing that we expect will cost around $20,000.

Still, The A100 may give us a few clues about what we can expect from NVIDIA's next gaming cards, and it's a pretty impressive piece of technology itself.

  • AMD Ryzen 3 3300X vs Intel i9-10900K: How much does CPU speed matter for games? | Upscaled

    12:52

Look, we know this isn't fair. We compared Intel's new flagship 10-core chip against AMD's 4-core 3300X. In almost any workload there would be no contest, but we wanted to see how these chips performed in three AAA games: Gears of War 5, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, and Red Dead Redemption. The GPU tends to matter so much more for game performance than the CPU, will we see a difference between these two chips? Stick around to the end for some thoughts on the i9-10900K as well.

Also, can you tell I got bored and bought some RGB lights?

One note, I got the name of the AMD motherboard wrong, it's the Crosshair Extreme VII not Crossfire

  • A Taste of GPU Compute

    1:5:07

    Presented by: Raph Levien

The GPU in a modern computer (desktop or mobile) has about an order of magnitude more raw general purpose computing throughput than the CPU, but is barely used except for games, machine learning, and cryptocurrency mining, largely because it’s hard to program. Getting good performance entails massive parallelism (thousands of threads) and careful attention to an explicit memory hierarchy. While GPU compute programming may seem to many like a black art, techniques from functional programming, including immutable data structures and an emphasis on associative operations (monoids) adapt very well to this space. This talk will present techniques used in piet-metal, a new 2D graphics rendering engine optimized for the modern GPU compute, and hopefully will serve as an invitation for the curious to explore this strange but powerful computing environment.

Raph Levien is currently an independent researcher exploring 2D graphics, font technology, and GUI, doing most of his work in Rust. Previously he was at Google for 11 years, including on the Android UI toolkit team, mostly working on fonts and text, and before that was the maintainer of Ghostscript. He has a PhD in Computer Science from UC Berkeley, on the topic of curve design tools.

What Do You Think of Intel’s 10nm Struggle?

01:53 – UncleCurseBurp: “#askgn-questions What do you think of Intel's struggle at 10nm and AMD moving to 7nm with TSMC? Intel's CEO had to resign over the 10nm struggle (not what was reported) and they may truly be in trouble with the constant 10nm delays in terms of AMD being able to deliver a more efficient product to the semi custom market (besides consoles) For reference, here is a link.”

Does Heat Degrade CPUs More Than Pure Voltage?

03:52 - Stephan Svendsen: “#AskGN I’ve heard different things from different sources, but does heat degrade CPU’s more than the pure voltage put into the CPU? Phrased differently, Can one safely input higher voltages into the CPU, as long as the temperature is low, or will the high voltage degrade the CPU rergardless of low temperatures?”

Are Mining GPUs Safe to Buy Used?

11:42 – Geimvera: “#askgn-questions Now that minig rigs are being chopped up and sold off are those GPUs safe to buy or should they be avoided like the plague?”

    Prime95 vs. AIDA OC Testing

19:47 - Devin Dykstra: “#AskGN When I was overclocking my cpu(Ryzen 5 1600) I noticed an odd phenomenon: When I overclocked it too high Aida64 and Prime95 both crashed my system, but when I ran both stress tests at the same time it was stable. I would think that running both would put even more stress on the CPU, so what's going on here?”

    Reviewing Gaming Mice Technically?

21:48 – FourthTuna: “#askgn-questions Can GN possibly review gaming mice? It is known in cybersport enthusiast community that even among top tier gaming mice sensors, button switches do differ and affect performance. Players collect data based on reviews and personal experience, there is lack of expertise about sensors, their technology and parameters.”

    Good Full-Tower Cases?

24:34 - George Lambros: “Hello Steve, hope you are doing well. I know you mostly cover mid tower cases (DBP 900 and HAF X revisited are the only exceptions?) but do you plan on reviewing some full tower cases as well? I made the mistake 6 years ago to buy the 800d and now, since you educated me, I ripped the drive cage apart, put 2 140mm fans in the front and glued Silverstone Air filters on the front panel. Now I have much better temperatures, but that means all my 7 drives are in the air held by cables or sitting at the bottom of the case. I am thinking its time for me to upgrade to a nice new 2018 case, but I really want a full tower. Which one would you suggest, except the HAF since it just looks SO bad... I read reviews around but I dont really trust no one, except you on the matter. Even just your opinion by seeing a picture of a case is more valuable to me, than some reviews out there.”

How Often Can You Ride Downhill?

27:49 – Ghostpilot: “@Steve Burke How often are you able to make it to a bike track? Do you bring your own bike or rent? Do you have a favorite and is there one you are looking forward to visiting?”

  • Ask GN 52: Whats Intel Doing? Low GPU Stock, Clean a GPU

    26:11

On this episode of Ask GN, we discuss Intel's current launch strategy, low video card stock from mining, and more.
GN Graph logo shirts are now in stock!

    Questions:

    What’s Intel Doing?
    No GPUs In Stock
How to Clean a Graphics Card
    Deferred Launch Bloatware
    xXboX OneXx
    SATA & NVMe Drives
    Shoot in 4K!

00:51 – What is Intel doing?

10:42 – No GPUs in Stock

13:16 – b10rain: “Big fan. Love the videos. My question is pretty simple. I was wondering if there was some basic protocols for cleaning dust from a graphics card? I have 980ti due for a cleaning, but I do not have the experience of taking off the air cooler unit. Is there a standard way to clean these without removing the cooler. And is there anything to avoid or be wary of? I don't want to damage a component with pressured air when I should've been using a different safer method. Thanks for you time! Steve rocks my socks!”

16:57 – tiefindir: “@Ask Gamers Nexus : Hi @Steve, the Bloatware issue was very informative. What still interested me, now I have a lot of extra software. From CAM / NZXT, Corsair-INK / RAM, MSI-Dragon Eye / Mysticlight for GPU / Mobo (GSKILL) and many other control software alone in my system! Does these different programs slow down the PC?”

19:55 – 1157StrangeKid: “With the recent announcement of the xXbox OneXx claiming 4k for $500 do you think you can try to put together a build for a similar price that could achieve the same thing? It would be an interesting spin to make 2 rigs, one with new and one with used parts to try and gain the most performance per dollar possible. P.S. Since 60fps was only promised for Forza it is only fair that you aim for 4k 30fps or better :)”

23:23 – David Martins: “Why NVMe have 4x PCIe Slots when the physical drive can only read at 600MB/s. Wouldn't 2x PCIe be enough?”

24:58 – cheddle: “can you plz do 4k uploads? I'd like to see your hair in as much detail as possible”

  • Intel Xe Chiplet GPU in 2021! AMD Navi GPU with 16GB of Memory!

    5:26

Let’s get started with intel. Yesterday, the company gave us an overview of their upcoming XE GPU architecture for data centers called Ponte Vecchio, did I say this right? Anyways, this architecture will jump right to the 7nm process node and will make its debut in the Aurora supercomputer.

What is really interesting about this compute monster is the various technologies intel will use for the package. So, the first thing we notice is the use of EMIB which ties multiple chip modules similar to what we’ve seen in AMD CPU’s over the last couple of years. Not only will they be placing chips side by side, but the company will also make use of their Foveros packaging to stack components. Honestly, the whole packaging is like nothing I’ve seen before. Let me try and draw how the components connect together. First, you have the compute dies. On all the pictures taken at the event, intel showed 8 chiplets on a single package. Then between those dies is a large unified cache, intel calls it Rambo and no its not an acronym. So the chiplets and Rambo are a single package which will then be stacked on another substrate where the HBM memory resides. 2 of those 8 chiplet packages reside on one substrate and that seems to be the final layout. Looking at their mockups of the chip, I have absolutely no clue how big it’s going to be. The form factor also seems like it will resemble a CPU more than a GPU, I mean look at this picture, each GPU looks like it could be socketed.

Anyways, intel revealed quite a lot about this new architecture and it truly seems like their focus is on scalability and interconnectivity. For us consumers though, this doesn’t mean much. Intel’s consumer GPU’s will be announced in 2020 and will be based on the 10nm process. 7nm xe consumer graphics probably won’t show its face until 2021.

Moving on to some AMD news, it looks like their presentation for Siggraph Asia will include a new addition to the Navi lineup. The company is giving a talk about distributed cloud-based GPU rendering tonight in a few hours, and the description reads a new Navi GPU based on RDNA equipped with 16GB of memory. With big memory usually comes big compute so will this be the first RDNA GPU with more than 40 compute units? I think it might be. AMD’s current Radeon instinct lineup starts with the MI6 accelerator with 36 compute units, but jumps all the way up to 60 compute units for the rest of the lineup except for the MI25 which has even more at 64. Now I know that its a different architecture but it would stand to reason that AMD would go higher than 40 CU’s for data centers. I’ll see what I can gather from the presentation tonight and I’ll update you guys tomorrow!

  • The Top 5 $200 GPUs of all time

    11:41

I set a hard limit on $200 to find the greatest GPU deals, ever. Just to tease us during this unprecedented GPU shortage. Anandtech deserves linking to as being the best site to use for this sort of research... provided they've reviewed the products you're looking for.

With hindsight, I should have mentioned the Geforce 1060 as an alternative to the Radeon 480. But then again, when one good GPU comes out it's not long before the competitor matches it with something, so I've tried to cover the first to be released every time in this video. Also, for $200 you'd have had to have got the (even later) 3GB model of 1060, and with hindsight, knowing how long it would have to last you, I would much rather have gone for the 480 4GB or the 470 8GB. But yeah, Geforce 1060 was a slightly more expensive, slightly faster alternative to the Radeon 480, which came out slightly later.

  • Is Samsung Going to Make Intels GPU ?

    4:57

As we all know intel has had some trouble with their 10nm process, but they still managed to release new 14nm refreshes every year. Now the other problem that came with this 14nm surge is the struggle to actually manufacture enough. We’ve heard about the shortages many times over the last year and a half, and we’ve even seen them revert back to 28nm for some chipsets to free up the 14nm fabs.

So why am I talking about this ? well, intel is branching out into the GPU market next year and with all the troubles they have at 10nm I highly doubt that they are looking into building a new Fab from the ground up for their Xe GPU’s.

It would make sense for them to partner up with another manufacturer. And guess what ! Raja koduri one of the Key people on intel’s graphics team was visiting Samsung at the same time as samsung revealed the readiness of their 5nm EUV process. This could be an indication that intel is looking into other manufacturers for their GPU market.

Intel’s Ghost Canyon NUC is a PCIe-socketable full system with baseboard, assembled in a small form factor case with a discrete GPU. In this video, we’re tearing it down.

We’re tearing down Intel’s brand new Ghost Canyon NUC, made in the NUC Kit and NUC Compute Element variants. In this tear-down, we’re taking apart the complete system and removing the smaller vapor chamber cooling solution, revealing Intel’s CPU and chipset. The system uses a connecting baseboard to bridge the computer and GPU, but most interestingly, it installs into the cases via simple PCIe slot. You could theoretically socket this into a larger case and then use it as a streaming PC, running all the cables directly between two systems in the same larger case. Alternatively, it’s usable as an all-in-one solution with a CPU and GPU in a 7-liter box, or 5-liter box if using Intel’s version of the case (rather than Cooler Master’s, as shown by CyberPower PC in this video).

  • RDNA 3 Benchmark - MCM Navi 3x To Destroy Competition | Intel Discrete GPU Finally Here!

    15:21

We've been talking a lot about AMD's RDNA 3 lately at RedGamingTech, with reports flying about the MCM design of the upcoming Navi 3x GPUs. Today we have a benchmark for a RDNA 3 Nashira Point, which shows some interesting performance for what is a very early engineering sample of the Navi 3x RDNA 3 graphics card. But with Nvidia's RTX 40 Lovelace looking very promising, will RDNA 3 be able to compete on both gaming and raytracing performance?

We finally see Intel show off a discrete GPU built on their Xe architecture - albeit on DG1 based on Intel's 10nm SuperFin architecture. We discuss the specs of this GPU, and also the latest rumblings on DG2, which we previously expected to be their first real competitive graphics card for gaming. With the shortages and supply issues that have plagued next gen PC and console hardware, Intel being competitive with their XE GPUs would definitely be a blessing.

Intel could be showing a GPU in 2019, according to rumors, though we don't know how believable those are at this time -- that does seem awfully early. Intel's Z390 chipset block diagram was also detailed and, compared to Z370, it's not all that different. We talk about Intel chipset differences (Z390 vs. Z370) in this segment. Separately, nVidia posted its earnings results for this last quarter, indicating a significant uptick in mining revenue from GPU sales. The company also illustrated that gaming remains greater than 50% of its total revenue. Ryzen Pro APUs also got an announcement, and we talk some specs here, along with differences between Ryzen Pro and non-Pro (desktop).

Other topics include net neutrality, Intel requesting an extension on Spectre-NG patches, EK's hard tubing water kits, Gigabyte entering the SSD market, and hardware sales.

We do not ever produce paid content or sponsored content (meaning that the content is our idea and is not funded externally aside from whatever ad placement is in the beginning) and we do not ever charge manufacturers for coverage.
