Starship SN10 will be attempting a medium altitude test flight (~10 km). It will lift off from Boca Chica, Texas under the power of three Raptor engines. At apogee, it will flip into a horizontal configuration for descent. Prior to landing, it will ignite three of its Raptor engines to initiate the landing flip before shutting one down. SN10 will attempt a propulsive landing on the landing pad, potentially becoming the first Starship prototype to successfully do so.

  • Starship | SN10 | High-Altitude Flight Test

    14:47

On Wednesday, March 3, Starship serial number (SN10) successfully completed SpaceX’s third high-altitude flight test of a Starship prototype from our site in Cameron County, Texas.

Similar to the high-altitude flight tests of Starship SN8 and SN9, SN10 was powered through ascent by three Raptor engines, each shutting down in sequence prior to the vehicle reaching apogee – approximately 10 km in altitude. SN10 performed a propellant transition to the internal header tanks, which hold landing propellant, before reorienting itself for reentry and a controlled aerodynamic descent.

The Starship prototype descended under active aerodynamic control, accomplished by independent movement of two forward and two aft flaps on the vehicle. All four flaps were actuated by an onboard flight computer to control Starship’s attitude during flight and enabled a precise landing at the intended location. SN10’s Raptor engines reignited as the vehicle performed the landing flip maneuver immediately before successfully touching down on the landing pad!

As if the flight test was not exciting enough, SN10 experienced a rapid unscheduled disassembly shortly after landing. These test flights are all about improving our understanding and development of a fully reusable transportation system designed to carry both crew and cargo on long-duration interplanetary flights, and help humanity return to the Moon, and travel to Mars and beyond.

    2:20

SpaceX Starship SN10 Lands Successfully and Explodes after 5 Mins. SpaceX’s latest Starship prototype landed on Wednesday for the first time after carrying out a high-altitude test flight in Texas — but exploded minutes later on its landing pad. The rocket, an early test version called SN10, demonstrated a few complex dances in mid-air before clinching a soft touch down, aiming to nail a key milestone in Elon Musk’s campaign to build a fully reusable rocket system. After aborting an initial launch attempt earlier in the day, the prototype lifted off at 6:14pm ET and soared 6 miles above SpaceX’s Boca Chica, Texas facilities. Unlike the last two tests with SN8 and SN9, which launched successfully but exploded on their landing attempts, SN10 stuck a lopsided landing on a slab of concrete not far from its launchpad, appearing to survive its daring landing manoeuvre for a few moments before being consumed in a fireball.

The launch test’s main objective was to demonstrate the computer-controlled movements of the rocket’s four aerodynamic flaps that steer its descent before landing, SpaceX engineer and live stream host John Insprucker said during the company’s broadcast.

At the end of its climb to 6.2 miles, each of the rocket’s three Raptor engines gradually shut down to prepare for a brief free-fall back to land, reorienting itself horizontally with its “belly” facing the ground.

Then came the “belly flop” manoeuvre. The rocket’s three engines reignited to swoop itself into a vertical position for landing.

SN10 slowly descended on its landing pad, softly touching down but leaning slightly to the side. Insprucker declared it a success on SpaceX’s live feed: “Third time’s a charm, as the saying goes. We’ve had a successful soft touchdown on the landing pad.”

“As a reminder, the key point of today’s test flight was to gather the data on controlling the vehicle while reentering, and we were successful in doing so,” he said.

The SpaceX live feed ended before SN10’s explosive demise. Another feed, provided by the website NASA Spaceflight, kept the cameras rolling and captured the fireball, which lofted the 16-story-tall rocket back into the air before crashing back down on its side.

Musk tweeted at 7:35PM ET to celebrate that SN10 landed “in one piece,” but jokingly noted two minutes after that the rocket had an “honourable discharge.”

Starship is SpaceX’s next-generation, fully reusable Mars rocket system designed to ferry crews of astronauts and 100 tons of cargo on future missions to Earth orbit, the moon and eventually Mars. The last three prototypes SpaceX has test-launched are early versions of the top half of the full Starship system, whose bottom half is a reusable super-heavy booster powered by an array of SpaceX’s new Raptor rocket engines.

BOCA CHICA, Tx. – As the saying goes, “the third time is the charm,” and that much was true for SpaceX as the company sent another interplanetary spaceship prototype flying high above the Texas coast Wednesday but this time it survived the landing attempt only to explode minutes after a successful landing.

Elon Musk’s company is churning out Starship test vehicles in Boca Chica, Texas at the company’s facility and most recently began testing the launch and landing capabilities in daring flights.

After two previous high-altitude flights of Starship prototypes ended in fiery explosions, it was Serial No. 10, or SN10, up on the chopping block.

SN10 took off at about 6:14 p.m. ET powered by three Raptor engines, reaching about 6 miles up. Next, each engine shut down one by one as the vehicle slowly began to orient itself horizontally for the descent. Then Starship began its descent in a belly flop using its four wings or flips, to control itself. The drop looks straight out of science-fiction even after the third time seeing it.

These high-altitude flights and now landings are part of the plan to test SpaceX’s interplanetary transportation system.

On December 9th, 2020, SpaceX conducted a test of their Starship SN8 prototype in Boca Chica, Texas outside of Brownsville. Despite very low expectations, it successfully lifted off, completed 2 planned engine shutdowns and reached its planned apogee of 12.5km.

Then it shut down its engine and belly-flopped back to the landing pad, successfully relit 2 of its engines, and performed a bellyflop to tail-down maneuver, before losing pressure in the fuel header tank, causing it to lose its engines and crash down faster than survivable, although right on target.

  • SpaceXs Starship SN10 Successfully Lands After Amazing Flight. Dismantles Itself Spectacularly.

    12:37

SpaceX finally proved that Starship's signature freefall and landing maneuver can work as claimed using their full scale SN10 prototype vehicle. The flight replicated the previous attempts by SN8 and SN9 right up to the actual landing where almost everything appeared to go as planned.
I say almost because the vehicle may have touched down a little harder than intended and landing legs failed to deploy. The vehicle eventually exploded on the pad as the propellent tanks ruptured.

Because the SpaceX feed ended we don't have any official footage of the Rapid Unscheduled Second Flight so I'm grateful for the independent videographers who were on the scene to record, and in some cases react to the surprise post credits scene.

SpaceX Starship prototype SN10 flies high, nails landing, then explodes after 8 minutes of landing, what's the cause?
Hi guys, my name’s Lisa, I am your host for today’s episode. Welcome to the next episode of 2021.
SpaceX has launched SN10 -- the tenth iteration of its current prototype series of Starship, the heavy-lift reusable spacecraft it's developing. Starship SN10 took off from Boca Chica, Texas, where SpaceX is developing the vehicle. It flew to a height of roughly 10 km, or 32,000 feet, before performing a maneuver to re-orient itself for a friction-assisted landing descent. /This is why Starship SN 10 exploded after landing 8 minutes/
Unlike the last two Starship prototypes to fly this high, however, the roughly six-minute flight did not end in a fireball [UPDATE: Well, not immediately. The rocket did blow up while stationary on the landing pad a few minutes after landing, potentially due to a leak]. Instead, it completed its landing flip maneuver as intended and slowed itself for a soft touchdown, with the rocket remaining vertical and intact afterwards.
/This is why Starship SN 10 exploded after landing 8 minutes/
This was a fantastic outcome, and a nominal one in all regards according to SpaceX's livestream. But why the prior explosions to get to this point? That's partly down to the way in which it has been doing its development of this vehicle. All rocket development includes unexpected events and sub-optimal outcomes, but SpaceX has a couple of things at work that mean is efforts are subject to unusual scrutiny versus your average spaceship manufacturer. /This is why Starship SN 10 exploded after landing 8 minutes/
The rocket, an early test version called SN10, demonstrated a few complex dances in mid-air before clinching a soft touch down, aiming to nail a key milestone in Elon Musk’s campaign to build a fully reusable rocket system.

How China Is Copying SpaceX & Elon Musk.
The USA has consistently proven itself as the space giant. There are several privately funded companies in the country whose business is the world beyond ours and through research and development, they have cemented the country as the kings of space. But there is one country that is catching up quickly and that country is China. 2020 saw the East Asian world power launch more space vessels than they had ever previously done. It seems they are in a bid to become SpaceX's and the USA's biggest space competitor.

If SpaceX and China’s space feud are unfamiliar to you then you should definitely watch this video till the end and don't forget to subscribe and leave a like if you enjoy it.

  • Starship SN10 Landing Burn Sequence

    58

Based on the changes Elon Musk said would be made to SN10's landing burn based on SN9's hard landing, this is close to what we should expect in the final moments of SN10's flight this coming week. All three engines will ignite, with the two healthiest remaining on for the completion of the flip maneuver.

  • SpaceXs Starship rocket explodes - BBC News

    1:08

The SpaceX company has managed to land one of its Starship prototypes at the end of a high-altitude test flight.

Serial Number 10 (SN10) touched down - unlike its predecessors SN8 and SN9, which crashed into the ground - but that wasn't the end of the story.

A fire then developed around its base and eight minutes later SN10 blew itself apart on the landing pad.

SpaceX envisages Starships replacing its existing Falcon rockets. SpaceX CEO Elon Musk says the new 50m-tall Starship will do it all, launching satellites and carrying passengers, both around the Earth and to off-world destinations such as the Moon and Mars.

  • Starship SN10 flight w/ Flight Club telemetry

    7:44

You may notice some small time discrepancies in this video between the Flight Club data and the events occurring in the feed. This is because SpaceX's various cameras and feeds weren't properly synced to each other. This is obvious when looking at engine #2 cutoff - SpaceX's engine cam shows cutoff in sync with the FC data, but their ground cam doesn't show it for another 1-2s

As such, I synced the FC data to Everyday Astronaut's streams which were better synced. You can view his livestream of this launch here: For this reason, the data _seems_ to be out of sync with the feed at times, but rather it's the feed that's out of sync.

SN10 is granted a flight permit by the FAA, SN10 will fly tomorrow #STARSHIPFANS
    --
Hi guys, Billy here, Welcome to the next episode of 2021.
We have two main topics of discussion:
    1. spacex starship sn10 high-altitude test flight slips to march 3.
    2. when will sn10 launch? faa clears elon musk's rocket for flight.

The high-altitude test flight of Starship SN10 has slipped again, as is common with SpaceX’s highly-experimental test program.

The flight was expected to take place March 1, 2021, with Boca Chica Village residents getting the standard evacuation notice the previous night. However, within three hours of that notice the villagers had reported the evacuation was now canceled and the flight was expected to take place no earlier than Wednesday, March 3.

Associated temporary flight restrictions, known as TFRs, and road closures for the flight attempts on Monday and Tuesday were also canceled shortly thereafter, with new backup TFR windows being issued for March 4-6.

Monday’s weather is forecast to be inclement with an approaching cold front causing low visibility foggy conditions with a high chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon, a likely reason for the push to the right. With all previous pre-flight tests for Starship SN10 completed over the course of last week, including a 48-hour turnaround for a Raptor engine swap between static fires, all eyes will now remain on the weather as the major factor for when a launch will take place.
