60 million years ago, following the mass extinction of the dinosaurs, giant snakes roamed the Americas. The biggest of these snakes was known as Titanoboa and it was just as terrifying as it sounds. Related to modern-day boa constrictors, Titanoboa was a monster. Thankfully, Titanoboa went extinct, but what if it didn’t? That’s exactly what we are going to talk about, right now on life’s biggest questions.

  • What If Megalodon Met the Biggest Snake Ever

    8:45

???? Our unique shop on Amazon (US only):

Who would win in a fight between a Megalodon and a Titanoboa? Well, let's figure out! That would be a very unusual match. But it’d also be spectacular and intense. Okay, Megalodon! This species went extinct about 3 million years ago, but there are good reasons why it’s now a legendary animal. It's the biggest shark that ever existed, and it was a super-powerful predator in its time.

Titanoboa is way bigger than any other snake. It lived in the swamps of Colombia, and it was the real boss of the area. Titanoboa could eat absolutely any animal it decided to hunt, and it faced no competition. It could swallow a giant turtle or even a crocodile. It looked like a modern boa but behaved like an anaconda. And that's a very scary mix. But could it stop a giant shark?

It's twice the size of a T. rex, its jaws are big enough to crush cars, and it can swallow multiple humans at a time! This ancient beast is called a megalodon shark, and if it had never become extinct, it would have a surprisingly large impact on our lives. How would they change the way we use our oceans?

  • What If Megalodon Sharks Didnt Go Extinct?

    11:21

2,600,000 years ago, megalodons terrorized the seas and oceans, and they were believed to be the largest sharks to ever live on Earth. They were also the largest predators in vertebrate history. What if this enormous marine carnivore had never become extinct? It isn’t a fun scenario to imagine, but, hey, we’ve also been toying with the idea ever since we saw fossils of dinosaurs and other beastly creatures that once roamed our planet. These gigantic animals ruled Earth millions of years ago, and we can’t help but wonder what our life would have been like if we’d coexisted with them.

    Music:

    SUMMARY
-Megalodon shark lived during the Neogene period, was between 52 ft and 59 ft, and its weight could vary from 70 to 100 tons. During the Renaissance period, the megalodon’s teeth were mistaken for the fossilized tips of the tongues of dragons and snakes.
-The only remains of a megalodon to be discovered were its vertebrae and tooth. They were found around the continents of Australia, Southeast Asia, Europe, and North and South America.
-Back in 2016, researchers at the University of Zurich’s Paleontological Institute and Museum found that the real reason the megalodons became extinct was due to competition over food.
-The megalodon immediately clamped its teeth onto the body of its prey, which resulted in pulverized ribs and a ruptured heart and lungs. The second attack method of the megalodon was to rip its prey’s fins to immobilize it before chow time.
-Had the megalodon shark survived, the aquatic biodiversity could have been rich if that had happened. However, the super predators that existed along with megalodons would also still be alive.
-Other species that have caused terror on Earth were the Aegirocassis benmoulae, the Sarcosuchus imperator, the Megatherium americanum, the Titanis walleri, or “Terror Bird”.

  • The BIGGEST SNAKE Ever ! TITANOBOA

    8:03

We know the anacondas, boas, pythons, but have you heard about the Titanoboa? It is the queen of snakes and is also the largest ever known.

Correction: The titanoboa weighed 1.13 tons.
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
    DESCRIPTION:

Its scientific name is Titanoboa Cerrejonensis, because it was discovered in the Cerrejón coal mines, located in the State of La Guajira, in Colombia. In this place, the geologist Henry Garcia found a strange fossil in 1994. He labeled it a petrified branch and stored it in a counter in the mine's facilities.

The discovery was not free of challenges. To know what the titanoboa was feeding on and what its true size was, the head was needed. Until then, mining activity had helped the discovery of new species. While more layers of land miners extracted, more species were found and they seemed to be increasingly older. The problem was that this time the miners had announced that they were going to start digging in lower strata and that all the land from the time of the titanoboa would be removed, losing any trace of it. The paleontologists had to hurry.

  • What If Megalodon Met Giant Sea Monster Kraken?

    9:11

The ocean is full of life — there are no lions, tigers, or bears, but there are turtles, whales, dolphins, and massive schools of fish. Yet all of a sudden, they all scatter in every direction, making way for something huge and ominous… It’s the megalodon, the ultimate predator of the seas. It’s swimming at a relaxed pace. Other sea creatures cower in fear before the beast and stay away not to become its next lunch.

But what’s that? An enormous school of fish swim from the depths of the ocean, seemingly in panic, and engulf the gigantic shark as if not seeing it. Something scared them so much they don’t pay attention to the apex predator. The shark opens its jaws wide and is getting ready for a bite when… something long and gnarly hits it on the side. Dazed, the megalodon watches as a squid the size it’s never seen before stretches its many limbs in all directions. It's the Kraken! So let's find out who would win if the Kraken fought the megalodon?

-A prehistoric cannibal. Dunkleosteus was not a part of the shark family but was an arthropod or placoderm fish. Its bite was as powerful as that of the Tyrannosaurus rex and modern crocodiles.
-Helicoprion was 35 ft long with shark-like features and was twice the size of the largest known great white shark. Its tooth whorl, which consisted of 15 to 18 serrated teeth, worked like a circular saw when eating its prey.
-Deinosuchus was related to the alligator and could grow up to 39 ft long. They preyed on sea turtles and dinosaurs.
-Gigantopithecus, which translates to “big ape,” was a relative of orangutans. Its teeth, which were falsely branded as “dragon teeth,” were made to grind and chew plants, bamboo in particular.
-Megapiranhas were 2.3 ft long and weighed 20–30 lb. The megapiranha had a bite force of 279–1,069 lb.
-Around 500,000 to 2 million years ago, the giant short-faced bear was the most powerful carnivore around. Its scientific name was “Arctodus simus,” and it weighed between 2,000 and 3,500 lb.
-Titanoboa cerrejonensis’ length was about 40–45 ft, and its average weight was 1.25 tons. Titanoboa looked like a boa constrictor but behaved like an anaconda.
-Megalodon was the largest shark to ever live on Earth. Its teeth were 5” to 7” in height and had a bite force of 24,400–41,000 lb.

360 to 380 million years ago, during the late Devonian period, there lived a huge species of predatory fish that grew up to 20 feet long and weighed up to a ton. That fish was Dunkleosteus, and it lived far before the dinosaurs did. The Devonian was a period on planet earth where fish reigned king, and the king of all kings was Dunkleosteus. But for the next few minutes, lets imagine a hypothetical timeline where old dunks didn’t go extinct when it did. What would the cause and effect have been? That’s what we’re going to talk about on today’s episode of life’s biggest questions.

Tianoboa is easily one of the most interesting and talked about prehistoric creatures known to us. Growing up to 50 feet in length, weighing up to 2500 pounds, and at its thickest parts, coming in at 3 feet in diameter, this beast is not something you’d want roaming the jungle. Thankfully, they went extinct about 60 million years ago, and that is likely the reason the human race was able to evolve. Cause I can tell you guys right now, if you think neanderthals fighting a sabertooth would be a tough battle, well, a titanoboa wouldn’t even flinch while swallowing a tiny prehistoric human whole.

We behold gorillas, orangutans, or lions as kings of the jungle today. Fifty-eight million years ago, however, there was another spectacular creature to which all the animal kingdom bowed down. Scientists call it Titanoboa cerrejonensis and it's a 40 feet long, one-ton heavy snake . If you're wondering that's as long as a school bus and as heavy as a small rhino.

After the extinction that killed the dinosaurs, these gargantuan snakes thrived, taking the top of the food chain in the jungles of South America. No other animal stood a chance for a long time. We don't know of any predator that could have hunted this giant snake.

Today, the Titanoboa is, of course, extinct. But we cannot stop wondering: how would such a monstrous creature fit in our world? With jungles covering only seven per cent of the Earth, yet increasing global temperatures, could the Titanoboa survive? Better yet, could we expect them to return at some point in the future?

  • A Huge Snake Could Be a Reason Why Dinosaurs Went Extinct

There are creatures that have a spine-chilling effect on almost everyone. They’ve lived on Earth for millions of years, and nowadays you can still find them on almost every continent. Yes, it's snakes, those amazing legless and terrifying beasts, that many centuries ago used to be so huge, they could have hunted and eaten dinosaurs!

    SUMMARY:
    - Titanoboa is the biggest serpent that has ever lived on Earth. It thrived in South American jungles after the extinction of dinosaurs, about 65 million years ago.
    - The biggest representatives of Titanoboa grew up to 40 ft long, which is almost as long as a semitrailer, and weighed more than a ton!
    - The huge snakes were not only perfectly capable of eating fleshy animals, but they could also digest shells and bones! The only problem was that this process took significantly longer than usual.
    - In fact, had they lived at the same time, the Titanoboa could have come out as the winner in a fight with the T-Rex! When the giant snake squeezed its prey, the pressure could reach 400 lbs per square inch.
    - All of the biggest snakes nowadays belong to the python, anaconda, and boa constrictor families, which are non-venomous.
    - Some of the longest snakes nowadays are pythons. See for yourself: the biggest reticulated python can grow up to 29 ft, which is almost as long as a London bus!
    - Anacondas can munch on animals that are much bigger than the snake itself. Pigs, antelopes, deer, rodents, and other small mammals are regular dishes on a large snakes' menu.
    - Interestingly, some snakes, namely, the common king snake, manage to dine on other snakes that seriously exceed their own size!
