  • How Deep Can You Possibly Dig?

    11:00

Do you remember that absolutely divine feeling you had as a child when you were digging in wet sand at the beach? Deeper and deeper... Have you ever wondered where you would have ended up if you’d kept digging without stopping? Great news! Even if you never managed to find out how far down your little tunnel could go, this video will tell you!

    TIMESTAMPS:

    SUMMARY:
    - At a depth of 2.3 ft, you'll find numerous mole tunnels and rabbit warrens. By the way, a mole can dig a tunnel longer than 65 ft in just one day!
    - Deep-burrowing species of earthworms can be spotted at a depth of 10 ft. One of them, Drawida grandis, can grow up to 3.5 ft long.
    - You can still find the roots of tropical forest plants if you dig 23 ft down. Tropical trees need such long roots to store water during dry periods.
    - When we arrive at a depth of 60 ft, we can see Beijing's Underground City. That's a subterranean bomb shelter consisting of a vast network of tunnels and underground rooms. It’s situated under the capital of China.
    - In Cappadocia, Turkey, there's an underground complex that probably dates back to the 7th century. Its name is Derinkuyu Underground City, and it's situated almost 280 ft below Earth’s surface.
    - The Channel Tunnel, connecting the UK with France, is situated at a depth of 377 ft.
    - The deepest railway tunnel is located at a depth of 787 ft. That's the maximum depth of the Seikan Tunnel in Japan that opened in 1988.
    - Even if we could get down to 1,001 ft, we’d still be in the danger zone for a B82 Earth-penetrating nuclear warhead. That's its maximum destructive depth.
    - At a depth of 3,800 ft, there's the deepest bat colony in the world. About 1,000 brown bats spend every winter in a zinc mine in New York.
    - About 5,920 ft down and we arrive at the deepest part of the 227-mile-long Grand Canyon. Its average depth is 5,282 ft.
    - The average depth of the oceanic crust is almost 20,000 ft. This is also the depth of the deepest known microbes. They were found in rocks below China's Songliao Basin.
-The winner in the category of the deepest artificial hole on Earth is Z44-Chayvo Oil and Gas Well. This shaft is drilled down to a whopping 40,604 ft! That's 15 Burj Khalifas put on top of each other. The shaft is located in the Russian Far East.

???? Brighten your style with our MERCH (open globally!) here:

What’s the most exotic destination you’ve been to? Hawaii? Australia, Hoboken, New Jersey? Well, today I’m setting off on a journey that’s way more unusual than that – down to the Earth’s core. And I’m inviting you to join me. It’ll be fun! The center of the Earth lies about 4,000 miles below its surface, so it’s gonna be a looong trip.

???? By the way, guys, be attentive! To make the journey even more fascinating, I've hidden something interesting in this video. Okay, I'll give you a hint - it's movie references! You definitely saw them because each of those films is iconic. Try to find them all and let everyone know you have a sharp eye in the comments! If you're a video game fan, there's a reference for you too. But this one is really difficult.

???? And, of course, there is a cat hidden in this video. Can you spot it? C'mon, prove you're much more attentive than most people! Do you accept the challenge? ????

    SUMMARY:
    - The crust isn't really that thick. It’s roughly 21 miles thick and is made up of basaltic rocks that are under the sea, and granitic rocks that make up the continents.
    - Nile Crocodiles dig the deepest burrows among all animals, so you can find them at 39 feet under ground.
    - There are whole underground cities with shelters and catacombs in different countries. The deepest of them lies at 278 feet under Cappadocia in Turkey.
    - Continental crust is about 2 billion years old and it covers about 40 percent of the Earth (yeah, the rest is oceanic crust).
    - In 2004, a half-marathon was organized in the Bochnia Salt Mine in Poland. It was the deepest half-marathon ever – you don’t often see people running at a depth of 695 feet after all.
    - The Earth’s crust serves as an electric blanket that covers the mantle. It’s rich in the radioactive elements uranium, thorium, and potassium, which produce heat!
    - The oceanic crust is never too far, and its average depth is 4.3 miles. It covers around 60 percent of the surface of our planet, and is thinner, denser and younger than the continental crust.
    - The pressure is getting more and more extreme, and it’s getting colder and colder down here. This is the deepest point where earthquakes are born – the ones that come from here are rare, and get pretty weak by the time they’ve traveled 435 miles up to the surface.
    - At 1,814 miles deep, the mantle ends and the outer core begins. It’s a sunless sea of super hot liquid metal that’s about the size of Mars.
    - Once every several thousand years, something happens in this layer: the magnetic poles reverse, and north and south change places.
    - At 2,750 miles, the inner core welcomes you! It’s the hottest, innermost part of the planet.
    - The inner core is nearly the size of the Moon, and makes up 2 per cent of the Earth’s mass.
    - Not so long ago, British scientists found out that the inner core is relatively young – probably somewhere between 500 and 1,000 million years old, and that’s nothing in terms of Earth science.
    - Now, for those of you who are thinking of packing your bags to go see the Earth’s core, I have some not-so-good news: it’s technically not possible yet, because there’s no way to survive the pressure and extreme heat that are waiting down there.

Sometimes we take a break from exploring things on the surface of the Earth to dig into its depths. When you were a child, you might have imagined being able to dig clear through the core of the Earth and pop out of the other side. Well, we hate to break it to you, but it doesn’t seem like it’s quite possible to do that just yet. So how deep can you actually dig into the Earth? We’ll learn about the different layers of the Earth and find out what progress has been made to get deeper into it. Let’s just say that there is a whole lot we can learn from these holes that take no shortage of time to create. Scientists must deal with seismic activity, blisteringly hot temperatures, and unexpected surprises as they try to continually dig deeper for answers.

  • Scientists Dug the Deepest Hole But Something Broke Their Drill

    10:02

Watch more videos in our new App:

The Guinness World Records award for the deepest human invasion into the Earth's crust goes to the Kola Superdeep Borehole. Its depth is 7.4 mi. You can find it in the icy part of Russia where the winter temperature of -40°F is a common thing. Local scientists started to dig it in the 1970s. The grand plan was to reach the depth of 9.3 mi. It was a purely scientific project to study the Earth's crust and maybe get to the hot mantle.

Up to the depth of 4.3 mi, the drill easily coped with granite rock. Then, denser layers came and broke the drill. The scientists had to change the drilling pattern. In the end, it resembled a tree with many branches. The deeper it went, the hotter it became. The temperature went up to 350°F. The equipment was constantly out of order and work was stopped completely in 1992. The place is now abandoned, overgrown with moss and rust. But it has its fair share of myths surrounding it too...

From the logic behind digging deep into the Earth, to the holes that have defined how deep we can dig, and beyond! Join us as we explore what's the deepest hole we can possibly dig?

    9. The Desire To Dig
Since the earliest days of humanity, we have learned via simply and very easily that within the earth under our feet are things that we can use to survive. From animals that we can eat, to water we can drink, to materials that can be refined into tools and items that can make our lives easier we have gone to great lengths to go and make things under the surface of the Earth known.

    8. Mirny Mine
Mirny Mine is a diamond mine, and one of the largest excavations in history. In regards to the width of the mine, it's about 3900 feet wide, and for the depth, it's 1700 feet deep. That's huge for a diamond mine. The mine itself was started by the leader of the Soviet Union, Joseph Stalin, 1955, and to this day, the mine is off-limits to bystanders. Why is that? It's because though they're not digging for diamonds anymore, they're still digging in the hole. Specifically, they're digging underground.

    7. Bingham County Mine
Miners are known for making holes in the Earth, but the Bingham County Mine definitely takes the cake as it was one of the biggest around. This copper mine has been in use for over a century, and it's still open to this day. Plus, to this day, it's the biggest copper mine in the world.

    6. IceCube Neutrino Observatory
There are many different ways to make holes into the Earth. But for the University of Wisconsin, they wanted to do a study of the Earth from a different perspective. They decided to go to Antarctica and drill a massive hole into the very ice caps of the Earth to see what's down there. Thus, the IceCube Neutrino Observatory was made.

    5. Woodingdean Water Well
The idea of making a well for water is not new, and it's something that has been going on for a very long time in regards to human history. But what some people forget is that sometimes they had to go REALLY deep in order to get the water. Such as the Woodingdean Water Well, which is the deepest water well in the world that was dug by hand.

    4. Mponeng Gold Mine
Mines all over the world dare to go deeper and deeper into the Earth in order to get things like gold, silver and valuable gems and minerals, but the Mponeng Gold Mine is one in South Africa that has the deepest shaft ever made by man.

    3. Kola Superdeep Borehole
When you look at the entrance to the Kola Superdeep Borehole, you probably don't think much about it, because it honestly doesn’t scream “it’s a borehole beneath this!”. The cover is only 9 inches wide, which again doesn’t feel right for a giant hole “entrance.” Yet don't judge it, because that's just the cover of this borehole and it hides a 7.5 mile hole that was dug in the 1970's.

    2. Z-44 chayvo well
For many years, the Kola Superdeep Borehole was the deepest hole on Earth, and by some metrics it still is. Mainly, it's the deepest borehole in the world, but in regards to the deepest artificial hole ever made by man, that happened in the 2000's via the Z-44 Chayvo Well.

    1. Can We Reach The Earth's Core?
Humanity has tried many, MANY times to go beyond its limits and reach the Earth's core, mainly because despite all of our theories and beliefs as to what is down there, we honestly don't know what is well and truly down there. Which is both frustrating and yet curiosity building.

  • How Deep Down Is the Earths Core?

    8:59

How many layers does the Earth have? Have you ever wondered what lies beneath Earth's crust? Well, our planet is like an onion - with loads of different layers. The Earth's crust is like a hard-boiled egg's shell - thin and tough. It takes up less than 1% of the planet's size. At a depth of 3,300 ft, the pressure reaches 330 atmospheres. That's like four elephants piled up on your head or two pandas balanced on your thumbnail.

About 6,500 ft below the surface, you still can meet some living creatures! Those are springtails - teeny eyeless insects that live in super-deep Krubera Cave. The deepest multicellular animal people know about lives at a depth of 11,800 ft in the TauTona mine in South Africa. This may sound strange, but a lot of interesting things happen underground. For example, 510 ft underground, you find the world's deepest hotel, and in 2020, the world's deepest concert took place at a depth of 6,200 ft!

    =======================
???? What's the Deepest Hole We Can Possibly Dig ????

???? Mankind has agreed that digging a hole is the number one task of our race. But how deep underground can we really dig with modern technology? In this video, we explore how far down we can go to reach the depths of Western civilization. We reach the depth at which the tomb of Pharaoh Tutankhamun was found, and the Catacombs of Paris under the city of Paris. At 392 metres, we arrive at the deepest well in the world, probably the deepest ever drilled by hand.

The deepest known cave on Earth is situated 2,197 meters below the surface of Georgia. The deepest concert ever performed by the band, 'Agonizer,' took place in Finland. The lowest portion of the Grand Canyon is 1857 meters away. The average density of the oceanic crust below the ocean floor is 6000 meters. The path from the top to the bottom of the Moab Khotsong Mineshaft takes four and a half minutes to get to the elevator. It will take 25 seconds to reach the bottom, long enough to make a phone call.

At 12,262 meters is the depth of the Kola Superdeep Borehole, a mission in which the Soviet Union sought to dig all the way into the crust of the Earth. Recently, however this depth has been exceeded by the Z44-Chavyo oil and gas well, at 12,376 meters. The crust, though will reach down to 70,000 meters below the Earth's surface, and the core of the world is 6.731 kilometers down.

    Thanks and Enjoy :)

These questions and many more we shall answer in this superior vid! The deepest hole to date was in fact drilled in the 70's by soviet scientists. Interestingly enough, the deepest-deep hole that we hope to drill as humans has already been planned for... it costs QUITE a bit tbh...

  • Dropping an iPhone X Down 4000 FT Deep Hole! - Whats In There?

    5:08

So I dropped the new iPhone X down a 4000+ ft. deep mine hole and recorded it all to see what happens.

So here's how my experiment went down. The fishing line I bought was 1329 yards (3987 ft.) When the line ran out I was pretty disappointed thinking it's just dangling but the iPhone footage shows it seems to have hit something.

I assume the line just kept unraveling despite the phone landing, unless it just landed on a ledge or something and actually was 4000 feet deep? Hard to tell but after the initial 2-3 second drag delay, the iPhone was going down pretty fast and for like a good three minutes.

In the year 1970, Soviet scientists began one of the greatest and most ambitious drilling and mining experiments in human history. In the Kola Peninsula, a drilling project started which would go on to reach farther down into the Earth’s crust than any other in history, setting a Guinness World record that still stands today.

Even now, over twenty years since the cessation of all drilling activities at the borehole, which has since been welded shut, it’s remembered as a grand science project which brought about great scientific discoveries, as well as rumors, myths and legends of the type that wouldn’t be out of place in a modern horror movie.

  • What Happens If You Try To Dig To China?

    5:10

If you want to dig to China, you’d actually need to start your journey in Chile or Argentina — not the US. And you’d need a super-powered drill to get through impenetrable iron, molten alloy, and rock found in Earth’s three primary layers: the crust, mantle, and core. Good luck!

    Original Video:

  • This is How the Deepest Holes in the World look like

    11:29

This is a Nile crocodile. It can dig into the earth down to a depth of 39 feet. And this is a human being, who can dig the deepest hole in the world, all the way down to 7 miles below the Earth’s crust. Sure, that is impressive, but the distance between the Earth’s surface and the core is a whole 3958 miles. We might ask then what the deepest hole is that we can dig on our planet. Would it be possible to dig straight through the earth to the other side? And what would happen if we dug a hole hundreds of miles down to the Earth’s core – would hot magma under pressure surge forth and burn everything around it, or could we safely go down into this tunnel and explore the unknown? Today we’re going to find out.

  • Whats down the deepest hole of Europe?!

    4:59

    #biggest #excavator #sinkhole

The largest hole of Europe is in Garzweiler, Germany. It is the enormous Hambach surface mine dig by humans. It's amongst the deepest holes in the world! The hole itself is 500 meters deep from the surface, and 200 meters below sea level. Making it the deepest man made point of Europe, too. It's dug by humans using the biggest and heaviest bucketwheel excavator in the world, the Bagger 288 and 293.

After completion the are will fill up the hole with water making it one of the deepest lakes of the world. Most certainly the deepest lake of Germany!
