  • Seidio Obex Review - iPhone 6

Not as good as the Obex for the iPhone 5 but still a worthy waterproof iPhone 6 case.

    Need more details?

    Which case should you get?

In terms of design, the Obex is a decently sized waterproof iPhone case. It’s thinner than the Otterbox Defender and Ballistic Hardcore but not as thin as the Lifeproof Fre. Surprisingly, it’s really not that much bigger than a Speck Candyshell.

installing this case is fairly simple, it’s your standard “snap 2 pieces of the case together” but during one of our numerous installs and uninstalls, we lost the plastic piece that fits in the mute switch so now we can’t change the mute status with the case. Just as a side note, as I was trying to find marketing jumbo to make fun of, if you’re wondering what Obex means, it’s actually Latin for barrier.

In terms of build quality, the case does fit together fairly well but from our drop tests, the Obex does get mangled. The last edge drop that we did left a pretty sizeable dent on the front of the case. Other than that, the case does feel quite nice as the rubber edges helps keep the iPhone in your hand and the two rubber strips on the back prevent it from sliding a bit.

In terms of protection, I’m not too thrilled with this case. It is waterproof and shockproof up to 6 meters but from our drop test, we discovered that the case has a tendency to split. The iPhone didn’t come flying out of the case but if the case was to land on a dock and fall into a lake or ocean, your iPhone is going to be a goner.

The screen protector on the case is fairly thick but there isn’t much of an edge between the front of the case and the edges.

In terms of accessing your iPhone inside the case, we came across a few things that were a little annoying. First of all, the Obex really only allows you to use Apple only cables. The lightning port isn’t large enough for larger cables and that’s the same for the headphone jack cutout. On the flip side, Seidio does include a headphone jack extension that you can use that will also keep the case waterproof as you have to lock the extension into the case.

Next up is the sound and talking thorough the case isn’t a problem but you might notice a slight muting of sound coming from the earpiece speaker. Now, the sound coming out of the case is generally muted which is no good but I do have to give props to Seidio for doing something slightly different.

For most cases, the sound comes out of the bottom of the iPhone. With the Obex, sound is diverted to the back of the case and comes out this small grill. It looks like they tried to do an amp chamber of some sort but the sound isn’t louder at all.

I didn’t have any issues accessing the Touch ID sensor or using the Camera/Flash. No noticeable signal attenuation either.

In terms of accessing your iPhone’s screen, the only thing we will note is that there is a slight gap between the touchscreen and screen protector but you have to go out of your way to look for it. The edges, because of their low height, allow you to get to everything on your iPhone easily.

In terms of screen viewability, the Obex is average though I will note the screen protector that Seidio uses has a grid of dots and one of the viewers mentioned that these dots left a mark on their Android phone but I’ve only read of 1 instance of that happening. Glare is kept to a minimum, rain bowing does occasionally occur which is annoying. Fingerprints aren’t any worse when compared to a naked iPhone screen which is also nice. And if its too grimy, just gave your phone a good rinse.

  • Crumple it in your hand? Tech 21 Evo Mesh Review - iPhone 6

An average iPhone case that is quite grippy but that's about it. Oh, and you can crumple it?

    Check out the review:

Check out all the cases we've reviewed:

Today we’re going to do the review for the Evo Mesh for iPhone 6. This is a unique case as you won’t find it on Tech21’s website, only in the Apple store to my knowledge. We’ve spent a bit of time with the case and realized that, would you put your iPhone in a case that can do this?

The Evo mesh is quite grippy. We’re big fans of how well it sits in your hand but we do have a couple of issues with the fit and the build quality of the case. Also, I’ve also discovered that this iPhone case is the second favourite place that my face grease likes to exist, other than on my face.

Based on my time with the case, I gave it a score of 3.9 Eh’s out of 5. This case doesn’t fare as well as Tech 21’s own classic shell in our opinion as it’s not as tough or well built but it does rate as well as a Speck Candyshell. If you’d rather read the rest of this review, check out our website and if you want to see how this case fares against other cases, check out our handy comparison tool.

At MobileReviewsEh, we’re anti-unbox-review video. We base our reviews on real life which means doing real life things with them, like sleeping with it, using it during potty times and keeping it in our bags. The best thing we do is comparing the case against similar cases so that we can bring you guys the most comprehensive reviews.

In terms of design, the Evo Mesh is a pretty thin iPhone case as it can easily go in and out of your pockets easily. In terms of build quality, we do like the materials of the case as it provides decent slip protection both front and back which is nice but we feel it doesn’t fit as well as it should in our opinion. As we showed you at the beginning of the video, the case is very pliable so it comes off the iPhone quite easily. Also, the thinner portions of the case, right around the ports can be easily pressed down.

For protection, the packaging on the Evo Mesh is all about the FlexShock. Not D30 like the Classic shell. Tech 21’s packaging has the word “impact” showing up over a dozen times and fancy diagrams that show how the black arrows become white and red arrows. Now my first glance at this case was that “it’s goto be the toughest iPhone case ever” until you realize their’s no mil-specs, there’s no drop height. There’s just a fancy diagram and whatever Tech 21 says. But in the spirit of this review, here’s what happens when you drop it from chest height.

The edges of the case are a little lower than other cases and with a screen protector installed, there’s very little clearance between the edge and the screen. This iPhone has Tech 21’s self healing screen protector but anything thicker and there might not be much clearance between the edge of the case and iPhone’s touchscreen.

In terms of functionality, getting to your iPhone inside is decent but the power buttons is a little harder to get to which is odd since the volume buttons are incredibly easy to press. The last thing worth nothing is that this case will easily handle all sorts of sized cables such as the bigger head on these Awesome cables and the headphone.

  • Molten Aluminum Vs. Lava Lamp

Ever wonder what would happen If you poured molten aluminum into a lava lamp? Me neither. Well, you voted, I listened! Some of my viewers on my Facebook, and G+ pages suggested that I pour molten aluminum into a Lava Lamp. That sounded awesome so I set out to buy the biggest one them make..27! After I got it, I was sad it was going to break because I really liked it. I hope this video gets enough views so I can buy another one!

I melted down about a pound or two of aluminum and poured it into a lava lamp. I had 4 cameras to capture the carnage, but only two turned out worthwhile. Aluminum melts at 1,221°F (660.3°C), so this stuff was HOT. I knew it would go down to the bottom and crack the glass, but I was not expecting the aluminum to cool in a neat shape. Moral of the story, pour molten metal in things.

I read all my comments, but sometimes I miss a few! If you need help with a project you are welcome to email me :)

On my Facebook, G+, and Twitter page I post questions, polls, and sneak peeks into my next video. Im always looking for my fans input!
