  • KENYA | Trip of a lifetime

    4:11

My new personal Sound effect pack :) -
Kenya, a bunch of friends and 3 Land Rovers....the perfect mix to a great African adventure. We spent just over 2 weeks cruising through Kenya witnessing some amazing sights as we passed by Mount Kenya, the Masai Mara, Naivasha, Hells Gate, Lake Nakuru, Lake Bogoria and even the bustling capital Nairobi. There was never a dull moment throughout the trip but my favourite moments were seeing the thousands of flamingos in Bogoria and camping out in the Masai Mara witnessing the river crossings during the great migration.
This is just a small bit of what I filmed along the way on my little Lumix Gh5, there is a full length 'visual vibes' film coming soon of the entire trip including everyones footage on Ben's channel, so this is just a teaser ;) .

  • Richard Turere #STARTNOW

    42

Start Now is an initiative of The Anzisha Prize. It is a call to all the young entrepreneurs on the African continent to start their new venture right now. Richard Turere is one example of the many young individuals who heeded this call to action.

Richard Turere hails from the pastoral Maasai community in Kenya. As a young boy, he was responsible for herding and caretaking his family’s herd of cattle. Because Richard’s family lives on the periphery of the unfenced Nairobi National Park, they often experienced lion attacks on their livestock, leading to devastating losses of livestock that they depend on for survival.

Richard applied his creative thinking skills and came up with a novel solution. While patrolling one night, he discovered that lions were afraid of and would retreat if they spotted a person walking around with a flashlight. Using electrical skills he had taught himself by breaking apart old radios, Richard created an LED light device powered by an old car battery and some solar panels. At night, the light flashes in a sequence that mimics someone patrolling with a flashlight and successfully repels lions from coming close to livestock.

This ensures that local Maasai can preserve their herds and that fewer lions are killed when spotted near pastoral communities.

Richard has formalized his clever solution under an organization called Lionlights, and the innovation has been installed on 750 farms now in Kenya over the past 4 years. He also employs 50 youth from his village who manage the installation of the lights.

The success of Richard’s invention has earned him funding from notable wildlife organizations like African Wildlife Foundation, BigLife Foundation and Wildlife Direct.

He was also invited to share his innovation with the world at the TED Global Stage in California and became the youngest person in Kenya to hold a patent for his invention.

Are you a young entrepreneur who has developed and implemented innovative solutions to social challenges or started a successful business within your community? Go to our website and see how we can help you #STARTNOW.

    STORYLINE:

Some 850 Argentinean inventors gathered at the National Inventors Association in Buenos Aires on Friday to celebrate and show their latest creations.

The inventions ranged from a corkscrew that easily uncork bottles of champagne to a pendulum engine that reduces friction and avoids pollution.

One of them appeared to hold worldwide promise: a five-centimetre (two-inch) adhesive stamp that records a clear and clean fingerprint as well as DNA information.

Victor Paz, head of Maral Enterprises, the company that created the stamp, said the possibilities were endless.

What looked like a simple and small device was really a complex system which used six different layers of sensitive material to keep an individual's fingerprint and genetic information.

The fingerprint kit has now been given patent approval in the United States.

A company representative in the US says both the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) have contacted Maral Enterprises to determine the various uses of the system.

Maral Enterprises say the stamp would make the work of government offices in both Argentina and abroad easier since the traditional way of taking fingerprints is slow and not always 100 percent reliable.

Sea turtles worldwide are threatened with extinction. Only one in 1,000 hatchlings are estimated to survive to adulthood and six of the seven species are vulnerable, endangered or critically endangered. Local Ocean Conservation have dedicated themselves to protecting sea turtles and in turn the marine environments on which they rely.

How Can You Help As A Part Of Your Safari To Kenya?
If you are visiting the Kenyan coast during your safari to Kenya, we would encourage you to visit the Local Ocean Conservation team at the headquarters on Watamu Beach or in their Marine Education Centre at Diani Beach.

Hands-on involvement is so rewarding so please do get involved! You could help to care for or release a rescued turtle from the rehabilitation centre or help plant mangrove seedlings whilst learning first-hand about turtle conservation.

This philanthropic involvement enhances your holiday experience whilst making a positive impact on the area to which you are travelling. This is especially exciting for children, too, who love to see the sea turtles in person at the Rehabilitation Centre and learn about their life cycles!

If you are not travelling to the area but would still like to make a difference, you could make a donation or adopt a rescued sea turtle as a gift for a loved one!

Tailored safaris and life changing holidays and vacations to Africa, Asia, Latin America and The Polar Regions. Visit our website for holidays of a lifetime. Holidays tailored around your needs. In 30 years, no two adventures the same! All completely bespoke.
